Chapter Text
“It’s so lovely to meet you all officially.” Sona smiled as Thomas led Sophie, Gideon and Eugenia into the room.
“And you.” Sophie returned the smile, moving over to give Sona a gentle hug. Both Alastair and Cordelia could see how happy their mama was at finally having some company that wasn’t the two of them.
“This is exciting, isn’t it?”Eugenia asked Cordelia.
“I can’t wait to be an Aunt although two babies in the house might be a lot to put up with.” Cordelia laughed.
“Oh, are you going to be moving in here, Thomas?” Eugenia asked as the rest of the Lightwood family turned to look at him.
“Well, nothing has been officially discussed.” Thomas began.
“But the boys have been spending a lot of time here together and they both know they’re more than welcome to stay here. If they don’t choose to move somewhere else entirely.” Sona offered.
“You would really be happy for me to move in here?” Thomas asked.
“Of course. It won’t be that different anyway, will it? You’re always here and you’ve been such a great support for Alastair. I would be more than happy to have you here.” Sona told him.
“Thank you. I would love to.” Thomas accepted.
“Well, it will be unusual knowing you’re not under our roof but you’re definitely making the right decision. You know we’ll support you no matter what and you’re always welcome to come back and see us any time you want.” Sophie told her youngest.
“It’s going to be strange not having you there.” Eugenia told Thomas, pulling him into a hug.
“It’s going to be odd for me, too but I’m very much looking forward to the next chapter of my life here, having a family.” Thomas told them all. Everyone smiled before Risa came to collect them and take them to the dining room for their dinner. Thomas and Alastair sat side by side, keeping their fingers laced for most of the meal.
It was now quite obvious that Alastair was expecting a baby and hadn’t just put on a bit of weight and everyone was getting worried that people would start putting two and two together. It wasn’t the way they wanted things to be but it wasn’t safe for Alastair to leave Cornwall Gardens during the day. Under the cover of night, things were slightly different but Thomas and Sona were being too protective for Alastair’s liking and he was feeling a little overwhelmed. “You know we just want you and the baby to be safe.” Sona told Alastair.
“I know but I wanted to help Thomas move his things in here.” Alastair frowned.
“You are expecting so it’s not as though you would be doing any of the heavy lifting.” Sona told him with a pointed look.
“I know. Thomas wouldn’t let me but neither would James or Christopher. They’ve both been wonderful since finding out about our relationship and the baby.” Alastair commented. “It would have been nice to join in though. I feel a bit left out here.”
“I know you and Thomas have become rather co-dependent since finding out about the baby but a little space isn’t going to do you any harm.” Sona replied.
“I know that, I just don’t like spending any time apart.” Alastair sighed. He’d never felt like this when he was with Charles, probably because of how different the relationship he had with Thomas was to the one he’d had with Charles.
“How are things going with Alastair? Moving in together is pretty serious.” Christopher commented as they packed up Thomas’s belongings.
“They’re having a baby together, Kit. It’s clearly already serious.” James pointed out.
“Oh, yeah.” Christopher mused. James and Thomas shared a fond smile, they loved their cousin and would do whatever they could to keep him safe but he was his own worst enemy. His head was always in the clouds and he’d be such a danger to himself if they weren’t there to keep an eye on him.
“Yes, Kit. Things are very serious. But I’m always with him at Cornwall Gardens so it didn’t make sense to go somewhere else, or to ask him to move in here. Everything is already so tough for him, especially with not being able to leave the house due to how far along he is. I couldn’t ask Alastair to leave the comfort of his home, that didn’t seem fair to me. Besides, I know he wants to stay and help his mother with the new baby.” Thomas explained.
“It won’t be long now, will it? Until she has the baby.” James commented.
“Any day now, she said.” Thomas agreed. There was a knock on the door.
“You didn’t think you could help Thomas move without me, did you?” Matthew told the trio with a winning smile.
“Considering we haven’t spoken since I told you about Alastair and the baby, yes.” Thomas replied.
“Look, I won’t pretend to understand why you like him, but you’re one of my best friends.” Matthew began.
“If this speech doesn’t include an apology or you telling me that you will accept Alastair and our baby then you can save it. I understand you don’t like him but he’s not going anywhere. Alastair is going to be a part of my life forever and if you can’t accept that and at the very least be civil to him then we are no longer friends.” Thomas cut him off.
“For your sake, and your sake alone, Tom, I will call a truce. I am not willing to let the past go completely and I doubt Alastair and I will be friends but I have no choice but to accept his place in your life. So I will accept it.” Matthew conceded.
“Thank you.” Thomas offered him a small smile. Matthew took this as his cue to come bounding into the room and pull Thomas into a hug.
“I can’t believe you’re the first one of us to be starting a family!” Matthew laughed.
“Tell me about it.” Thomas agreed. Maybe things would be okay.
