Chapter Text
- When it comes to Chaos, nothing about them can ever have a straightforward answer. This also isn’t the case for the reason you have caught their attention, as it is something they do not know themselves either. Perhaps you were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time, and it could have been anyone else. Maybe it was pure chance, or certain, improbable circumstances lined up together. Their desire to observe you is new. This in and of itself draws them in more, fascinated by their own ‘fondness’. (Though this wouldn’t be the right word to describe it. It starts off as a detached interest, a curiosity. Like one might look at an animal in a zoo.)
- Chaos would have never considered themselves lonely. They are everywhere and nowhere at the same time, a piece of them residing in every living thing, as it is from them they once were formed. If they so choose, they can witness everything, too. With so much for them to observe, they don’t feel the need to make direct contact, except under rare circumstances. When there is an ache in their chest, intensified, that only dulls when looking at you. (They had wondered if Aphrodite’s influence could reach this far into the depths. There was a chance this question would soon be answered.) The desire to meet you grows. But you do not reside in the underworld and, as such, they can’t reach you yet. Not to communicate directly, at least.
- Their influence on your life starts as a mere inkling. Shadows morphing from the corner of your eye and invisible hands prodding you as you are about to drift off to sleep. They could also be bringing about the unexpected. A fateful reunion with someone from years long since laid to rest behind you, one you were sure to never see again, or receiving the chance of a lifetime, or a slight twinge to fate that makes everything you worked for fall apart. Chaos does not care whether their impact on your life is positive or negative, luck or misfortune. Likely, it’s a mix of both. All they keep track of is the enjoyment they get out of your acknowledgement of these happenings, as it is also recognition of them.
- They expect their interest in you to be a fleeting, temporary thing. Confined within your mortal life, a span of time like the blink of an eye for them. But for once, the days seem to stretch on. Everything becomes predictable to Chaos as they watch closely, and as they do, the god loses all desire to pay them mind any longer. This is different when it comes to you. They know all there is to know. They know what clothes you will pick out the next day, the types of jokes you’ll make in your responses, the things that make you happy and the ones that will tear you down. They know what has happened, and what is to come. The entirety of this knowledge, and the fact you’re predictable, does not stop them from aching. This amuses them.
- It is inevitable they will drag you into the void with them. With their power over time and space, it is no hard task for them, though they wouldn’t be quick to use them in such a manner. The void is not made to keep a human alive. It will compress you from all sides, choking you, until your throat is so closed that not as much as a squeak can escape. But if mortal souls have any advantage, it’s their adaptability. To you, this means an eternity in the endless nothingness you are now a part of. You don’t have a ‘self’ any longer, and it will take a while before you have picked up the pieces of yourself again to answer the calling of Chaos. (Neither the world of the living or the dead is a place you can dwell in anymore, all doors closed. The same as Chaos, you have been made into a creature of the void, your body distorted beyond repair.)
- Chaos is not affectionate to you in any traditional sense of the word. However, they will tell you things that no one else has heard for their lips. As you are connected to the void, this means the two of you are now connected as well. Inseparable. They are always all around you, always touching you. Though from time to time, these will actually feel like fleeting strokes of a finger. You are not a god, or in close contact with the vast majority of the power they possess, but occasionally, you will get glances. Glances of the different paths your life could have taken, or the ones of others, strangers, or a peek into the ongoings of earth and the underworld.
- Besides telling you tales of their own, they will insist they want to hear about your life. (And with so little to do in a literal never ending darkness, you end up giving in with time, if only not to hear your sanity by hearing, what you think is, your voice. Before that, Chaos will let you rage for as long as you need, unbothered. Because there is nothing to fight, nothing except your already decided fate. Not even death can be an escape.) Despite them being aware of everything that occured, what they want to gain more knowledge on is your opinion on these things. How these experiences are remembered by you. They will likely have a strong interest in your emotions specifically, or even love, because this is one of the few aspects of existence they have little of a grasp on.
