Chapter Text
Six and Mono were in the kitchen again, it was a new day so new breakfast, this time it was pancakes. Six seemed excited for this, Mono wanted to see how pancakes were made, he's had them before but never made them.
"how are you two doing this morning?"
"Lil tired.... But ok" mono says, he sounded chipper, even saying a few words now. He was holding onto Six's hand and she gave a small nod in agreement
"That's good to hear" He ruffles the kids hair. "Ok lets start with making the batter"
While Gordon was working on cooking bacon the kids were pouring the ingredients together, Mono looked at the mix "Looks lumpy..."
Six motions that they have to stir with the whisk
"Oh!" Mono starts mixing everything together, he sees Six making a grabbing motion "Ok" He hands her the whisk.
Instead of mixing more of the batter she tried to lick some of it off the whisk, it was probably good right? Well before she could Mono grabs it back. Six makes an upset sound and reaches for it again, leading to a game of tug of war between the two over the whisk. Mono slips and let go and the whisk hits Six on the nose, batter was stuck to her face and Mono was apologizing to her. Six bumps her head to his and giggled.
"Sorry..." Mono says apologetically, he didn't mean to her to get hurt but the gesture was appreciated, it kept him from having a panic, and luckily they didn't knock over the pancake batter onto the floor.
"The batter ready kids?" Gordon asks.
"Yea I think so" Mono replies, holding out the bowl of mix to him.
"good job kid- Six how did you get batter on your face"
Six looks away sheepishly.
"She tried to eat some" Mono the sweet boy he is just tells the trust.
"Well I don't blame her, pancakes are some pretty good stuff, now you can help me pour some onto the pan"
After Six was cleaned up the two of them stood on the stool to watch Gordon pour the batter onto the pan, Mono watching curiously and sees the edges of the pancake start to bubble. "Its bubbling..."
"Means we gotta flip it" Gordon then demonstrates, flipping the pancake over "Now Mono you pour some on and I'll show you again how to flip the pancake before letting you try"
Mono does as told and both of them observe how to flip a pancake. When given the chance to try Mono and Six don't have the finesse that Gordon would have, and a couple of pancakes wound up burnt but it wasn't terrible for some first tries. When trying again Six didn't have the timing and mono flipped too soon and the pancakes would be misshapen. Mono thought over this and had an idea. He gave Six the spatula and made some hand gestures so she understood.
Gordon watches with a raised eyebrow at what they're doing.
Six looked at the pancake and waited, spatula at the ready.
"Now!" Mono says and Six flipped the pancake.
Gordon looked and she got it right. "Not bad kids"
Six did a little fist pump and highfives Mono.
"we did it!" Mono was hopping in excitement.
"now lets see if you can do more"
The excitement disappeared when they had to do it again, but they would switch places and six taps Monos shoulder to signal for him to flip.
---------------
"They're smart kids" Gordon says while taking a bite of bacon
"What's they do this time?" John asks
"Well makin pancakes is all about timing so when one would flip too late the other did it too soon. So they worked out a system that when one was going to flip they gave some kinda signal to one another"
"So they worked out a system"
"Yea those tow would make a good team in the kitchens"
