Work Text:
It had been 7 years. 7 years since he had been a part in that crazy classroom.
Nagisa has had many memories of to what they did in that classroom. What he had done. He had almost killed someone. It was scary to think about that. What he was capable of. And even though he had proved to his students what he could do, none of them would ever know exactly how far he could go.
It was best that way. Nagisa knew that if he told them, they would fear him. Look at him like he was a monster. And maybe they were right. He was a monster. A monster only his former class would ever know existed.
That class had been Nagisa’s everything. It had helped him get away from his abusive mother, his school bullies and had helped him build up his confidence. Without his year in class 3-E, Nagisa knew that he most certainly would not be in the position he was in now.
He hadn’t really stayed in touch with all his former classmates as he didn’t want to get in their way. They had all been working so hard on their futures that Nagisa would hate if he prevented them from moving up.
Sometimes he would question whether he should have gone on to be an assassin. Would that have been better for him? Nagisa knew that if he had chosen that profession, there would be no going back. He would have to cut all ties with his past life. Korosensei and Bitch-sensei had made that very clear. Once you go down that path of an assassin, you can not stop. You can never undo taking someone’s life, it is something that will stay with you forever.
So he was glad that he had chosen to become a teacher instead. Now instead of taking lives, Nagisa built them. He gave his students new opportunities. His class may be full of delinquents and misfits, even worse than E Class, but Nagisa knew that he could provide them with an education equal to those at Kunugigaoka. Though it might not be as good as what Korosensei gave them, he knew it that his education would be enough for them to evolve in the future. These kids were the future.
The future was ever changing, but Nagisa knew the feeling of when you change your future. For most people, the changes were small, insignificant. But for him - and the rest of Class E - the changes that they caused, affected each and every person on this planet now and those will be.
It had been terrifying, knowing that the fate of the world rested on their shoulders. That every single mistake could lead to catastrophic event further down the line. That if they had moved a second faster, had shot a millimetre more to the left, then the world would be completely different to what it was.
There were endless questions always circling around in his mind. What would have happened if Karma won their little fight? What would have happened if he had lost to Takaoka the first or second time? What would have happened if the government and the people had listened to them? Would Korosensei have lived, or would he have ended up destroying the world?
Nagisa knew that there would be no way to answer those questions. Ever. Not unless someone invented time travel. Sooo, good luck with that.
He often dreamt about the events of what they had done in 3-E, most of them were good, but of course some were bad. Even after he escaped from his mother, he still dreamt about the ways she used to abuse him. Sometimes, though very, very rarely, she would appear in his memories in 3-E. Almost all the time she would take the place of Takaoka on the island and those times, Nagisa was unable to save his friends.
After dreams like those, he would always contact Tomohito – the only member of 3-E he remained in close contact with – who would always pick up no matter the time. Sometimes, when Tomohito was busy, Yukiko would pick up instead. Although Nagisa wasn’t as comfortable with talking about his nightmares with Yukiko, she was still able to calm him down.
Once every often he would get a text from Kaede updating him on her new acting roles. He was so proud that one of his friends became this famous. Yuuma also sent him messages, never letting his role as class president go. It was kind of cute how Yuuma still acted like the leader he had been in 3-E even though it had been 7 years. With Yuuma, Nagisa would talk about more of their domestic life. He would tell Yuuma of the adventures of his students while Yuuma would entertain him with stories of eccentric customers.
Now that Yuuma’s mother was in aged care, Yuuma was the only one providing his family with money. He had told his younger siblings to prioritize their education over everything, so they don’t end up like him. Luckily, Yuuma had Hiroto to help him. Nagisa occasionally wondered what it would be like if he had someone who cared for him like that. He didn't think that anyone would bother taking care of someone like him, let alone ever loving.
Well, at least that was what he thought until becoming a part of Class E. Now Nagisa knew that he had 28 brothers and sisters plus two amazing guardians.
