Work Text:
The Horde was winning, but Catra didn't feel any less empty. She had taken up the role of Shadow Weaver, so she at least had power. But she didn't even really care about the power. Deep down, what she wanted was-
No. Adora's my enemy She reminded herself.
Scorpia was off doing some basic guard work, meaning that Catra was pretty much left to her own devices. She had done all the paperwork she needed to do for that day, and there was no mission to go on.
She had alone time for once.
She laid in her bed, alone. She was tired, but not sleepy. She just felt... Numb.
"Knock knock, kitten" a familiarly flamboyant voice said. Catra looked up to see the familiar face of Double Trouble.
"What do you want?" Catra muttered out in an annoyed tone.
"Scorpia told me you have been in your room for a while and wanted me to check on you" The reptilian explained
"Of course she did" Catra replied, annoyed but not surprised at Scorpia's worry
DT could tell something was off. Being an actor, they were very good at picking up emotion. And they could tell there was a sort of flatness to how Catra spoke. Still annoyed sounding, but there seemed to be less feeling behind it.
"You okay, kitten?" They asked, concerned for their... Friend? They wouldn't consider her a friend since it was more of a business acquaintance-ship, but they were a bit closer than the typical client/employee dynamic...
Friendly client DT decided in their mind
"I'm fine" Catra replied venomously
"I'm no psychologist, but I can tell when someone is lying" DT responded with a smirk
"I said I'm fine!" Catra shouted
"You're not feeling much of anything are you?" DT continued
"No, I'm not!" Catra shouted back. She then processed what she said and groaned, annoyed. She hadn't meant to say that
"Well, can I help?" DT asked. Of course, they would demand extra pay for this later, but that could wait.
"No" Catra replied immediately. "Go away"
DT sighed in defeat, turned, and went to the door. They quickly scribbled something onto a slip of paper and stuck it to the wall, before leaving.
Catra took notice of this and forced herself off the bed to go read the note
I'll bring you some ration bars and water, cause I'm guessing you haven't eaten.
Try and draw or something
- Double Trouble
A small smile flicked across Catra's face. A dash of gratefulness flickered in her chest briefly. Better than nothing.
DT was right. She hadn't eaten. She was thankful she wouldn't have to drag herself down to the cafeteria, and potentially have to talk to other people.
She took DT's advice to heart and pulled out a spare sheet of paper and the pen she did her paperwork with and drew.
When finished, she smiled at her creation. She always put up a front that she thought art was dumb and a waste of time, but deep down she enjoyed it. She immediately folded it into a tiny square and hid it in her desk.
She then noticed the ration bars and water by the door. She hadn't noticed DT returned. A flicker of embarrassment flashed through her, realizing that DT had probably seen her drawing.
Embarrassment She thought to herself
I guess it's better than nothing
