Mermista sat in her room in Salineas. Some of the far reaches of her kingdom were still being rebuilt but it was fixed for the most part.
She was sitting on the floor next to her bed, feeling... nothing
She couldn't sleep, but being awake was boring. This sucked.
A knock at the door caught her attention.
"Yes?" She asked in a monotone voice, which didn't alert whoever was at the door of her current state because she usually was pretty deadpan anyways
"Mermista, dearest, may I come in?" Sea Hawk asked
A flicker of emotion bubbled in Mermista before instantly vanishing.
Annoyance.
"Okay" she replied and Sea Hawk walked in
"You'll be glad to know that they are on the last house that needs to be rebui-" he suddenly noticed Mermista's vacant expression, and the fact that she was sitting on the floor "Is everything alright, my love?"
Mermista shrugged. It reminded Sea Hawk of Catra.
Sometimes Catra would go through periods of time where she felt emotionless and isolated herself.
Of course, everyone in the rebellion was aware of this, just so that no one would try and lash out at her for not participating.
Was something similar going on with Mermista?
"How are you feeling?" he asked, testing the waters (get it?)
"I'm not" Mermista responded
His assumptions were correct
"Oh" he said "Well, would you like to sit on the bed at least?" He asked
Surely the floor is not very comfortable
Without responding, Mermista somehow found the energy to stand up and lay in bed
She Hawk sighed and laid next to her
If only he could take this struggle away from her
