Kieren looked at the clock, it was 1 am, he tip-toed his way towards the stairs. He carefully made his way down the stairs, he did not want to wake any of the others in his house. As he opened the door into the hallway, he saw the shadow of a figure outside the front door. Kieren opened the door and Rick almost fell in the door, Kieren steadied him.
“Hi,” Rick whispered smiling sheepishly. The other boy returned the smile, sliding one hand along Rick’s arm and down to his hand, whilst simultaneously closing the door behind them. Now their hands were intertwined and it was as if they were alone in the world, well only them and his thumping heart.
Kieren wanted to kiss Rick right then and there, but he knew it was a bad idea.
Instead he lead him up the stairs, and towards his bedroom as silently as possible. Kieren walked first with Rick tagging along behind her. His feet were barely brushing the floors. He wasn’t sure if he was floating in order to not disturb the quiet that lay over them like a sheer sheet that could snag at any moment or if it was the feeling of Rick’s hand in his that had him floating.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, they reached the bedroom.
As they entered Rick closed the door behind them. Kieren let go of Rick’s hand, and leaned against the door.
“Hi,” Kieren murmurs softly, Rick’s eyes connect with his. In one swift motion Rick is standing right in front of him. Rick’s hands cup Kieren’s face, Kieren smiles at him, he grins back. Another precise motion and their lips connect. Soft gentle lips coaxing his to move with them. As Rick’s thumbs stroked his cheeks, Kieren’s hands landed on Rick’s back.
Butterflies were swarming in his stomach. His hands began roaming and he smiled against the kiss, Kieren drew away so he could see the face of his beautiful boyfriend. Even though he found his boyfriend incredibly handsome he found his lips longing for him the moment they broke apart.
“I missed you.”
“We saw each other yesterday,” Rick pointed out with a faint smile, combing a hand through his hair. Kieren sighed and shook his head.
“You know what I mean.”
“I do, and I missed you too,” Rick murmured, before locking their lips once again, it was like he could breathe again as their lips met.
The energy from the reunion of their lips invigorated him, he couldn’t keep his hands too himself any longer. His hands travelled down Rick’s back, they landed on the small of his back before bumping into something hard. He wrapped his hand around it, it was a rolled up magazine. He dragged it out of Rick’s pocket. It was one of those magazines that men in their late 40s in unhappy marriages read, with ladies with gigantic boobs and tiny waists and barely any clothing. Why on earth did Rick have a magazine like that in the pocket of his jeans? Kieren raised an eyebrow at Rick.
“About that,” Rick rubbed the back of his neck as he regarded the raunchy magazine in the hands of his boyfriend. Kieren waited in confusion for Rick to explain.
“Well... So my dad is very inquisitive as you are well aware, and I thought it would be a good idea to hang up some posters to keep up the guise that I am interested in girls...”
“And?” Kieren prodded after a long pause.
“I thought you could help me pick out the posters,” Rick supplied, nodding towards the magazine. Kieren sat down on his bed, and Rick plopped down next to him. He flipped the magazine open to a random page, and was shocked by the revealing photo that glared back at him.
“You want my help because...?” Kieren asked looking away from the woman on the page his gaze making its way back to the magnetic presence of the wonderful boy sitting next to him.
“Because eww,” Rick responded pointing at the topless woman.
“Alright then, this is obviously a bit too much,” Kieren said gesturing towards the lady in the photograph, focusing his gestures especially in the area of the photo where her breasts were located.
“I figured, but I thought I should run it by my boyfriend which almost naked ladies I should plaster all over my room,” Rick explained, sliding a hand onto Kieren’s shoulder.
“Good idea,” Kieren agreed, before kissing Rick on the cheek.
He flipped through the pages scanning the photos, looking for ones that were not too risqué and something a boy would like to hide from his parents, but still looked bad enough for them to be in a hormonal and horny teenager’s room. Kieren put fingers in between the pages —that he thought would be a good fit— to keep tab on them.
“How many?” Kieren asked as he flipped back to the first contender.
“Two or three maybe? That’s enough right?”
“That’ll keep him off our trail,” Rick added jokingly, but Kieren could tell there was a note of worry in his voice. It wasn’t just a joke.
“Yup,” Kieren grinned proudly. He leaned in and gave Rick a peck in order to calm him down, and then BOOPed his nose.
Rick smiled and swatted Kieren’s hand away.
“Say yes or no.”
Kieren flipped through their options and carefully tore out the ones Rick gave positive responses to. In the end they were left with two posters.
“Thank you,” Rick said earnestly. Kieren wanted to make a joke about how Bill would never figure out that Rick was gay now, but he knew it would make Rick uncomfortable so he refrained.
“I know you’ll be ogling these ladies every day, so no need to thank me,” Kieren said his voice covered in sarcasm, poking his elbow in Rick’s side repeatedly.
“You know me too well Ren,” Rick said resigned, lifting his hands up in surrender.
The two boys laughed at the exchange, and Rick let his hands land softly on Kieren’s shoulders. Kieren stretched his legs out and lay them in Rick’s lap. Then he wrapped his arms around Rick and dragged him down onto the mattress so that they were both lying down. Kieren squeezed Rick tight, Rick chuckled and squeezed back.
“I love you,” Rick whispered.
“I love you too,” Kieren whispered back.
The relationship that had grown between the two boys was a secret well kept.
