We Have a Connection

Summary:

Taehyung had planned to spend a day curled up on the couch with his four-year-old son, Namjoon, watching movies but his plans are interrupted when the internet stops working. In comes Seokjin to save the day (and hit on the hot dad with the adorable son).

Work Text:

"Didn"t do it!" Three words that sent dread into the stomach of any parent when voiced by their four-year-old, Taehyung was no exception to the rule. He had hoped for a calm day off, marathoning Disney movies with his son and treating them both to as many snacks as they wanted before getting back to being a responsible parent with a healthy diet plan tomorrow. Apparently, he wasn"t even allowed that simple joy.

"What happened, Joon-bug?" Taehyung asked moving from into the living room from the kitchen where he had been arranging cut fruit onto a plate as a stand-in for a normal breakfast- which really was definitely a lot better for the pair as their usual breakfasts consisted of sugary cereal for the father-son duo with major sweet tooths.

"Didn"t do it!" Namjoon exclaimed, dropping the Tv remote onto the couch with wide eyes as he peered up at his father.

"I didn"t say you did but I also need to know what happened."

"Not working," The boy pointed at the TV where there was a sign announcing a lack of signal. "Try to put Nemo but not work."

"Huh, okay," Taehyung moved over to pick up the remote himself and try to bring up the Disney+ app on the TV but it wouldn"t work. "Maybe the app is down," He mumbled, pressing buttons to move across to Netflix to see if that worked. It didn"t.

"Not me, appa, didn"t do it,"

"I know, bug, you"re not in trouble," He assured, smiling softly at the child who visibly relaxed at the words. Taehyung"s lips twitched up into a bigger smile and he turned to focus back on the screen.
Soon enough though, after trying multiple apps and even turning it on and off again as if that would magically stop the device"s sulking, Taehyung realised that this was not as simple as that.
"Looks like I"ll have to call someone to come fix this." He sighed, already pulling his phone from his pocket to dial the number on the screen that advised him to do as much.

"Nemo?" Namjoon frowned, toddling over to clamber up onto the sofa beside where Taehyung perched on the arm.

"We might have to watch it on DVD instead,"

"But not bedtime," The four-year-old pointed out bewildered and put off by this unusual change to the routine. Usually, DVDs were only used in the apartment in the child"s bedroom, on nights when Namjoon couldn"t fall asleep even after two stories so Taehyung would put a film on quietly to give him something to focus on instead of staying awake and growing frustrated- Taehyung knew that feeling all too well. "Is morning."

"I know but-" He cut off when his call was picked up and got up to wander to the kitchen to talk leaving Namjoon pouting on the sofa.

*

When there was a knock on the door signalling a visitor, Namjoon didn"t want to move from his place curled up against his dad on the couch as they both watched Finding Dory enraptured after having already watched the prequel just as enthusiastically. The kid got his love of animation from somewhere, after all, and if you add his love of sea life, well Namjoon could watch the two movies on repeat all day without complaint.

"I"ll be right back, we"ll have to pause anyway for the person to fix the problem," Taehyung informed, picking up the remote to press the pause button earning a whine of complaint but he ignored it to get up and approach the front door.
"Hi-" His bright, welcoming smile dropped at the unexpected sight of the gorgeous man on the other side of his then open door.
Now, Taehyung by nature was a pretty confident, sociable guy so getting tongue-tied in front of a new face was something that didn"t really happen to him; then again, he never usually met a new face he wouldn"t mind getting tongue-tied with.

"Hello," The man smiled politely. "My name is Kim Seokjin, I"m here to fix your internet?" He offered, tilting his head a little in a silent question. "This is the right apartment, yes? Kim Taehyung? You called our helpline and spoke to Yoongi about a fussy TV?" Seokjin looked amused at the term, repeating the exact words Taehyung had used earlier on the phone to his colleague.

"Oh uh, yeah, yeah, that"s me...with the fussy TV," Taehyung confirmed with a nod and stepped back, motioning for Seokjin to enter which he did, immediately leaning down to pull plastic disposable booties over his sturdy boots as to not get the floor dirty. Taehyung closed the door behind him and then wandered into the living room when he noticed that the technician was ready.
"Just through here,"

"Oh, Dory!" Seokjin exclaimed upon recognising the fish paused on the large screen. "Great film, she"s a-dory-ble," He squeaked out a laugh at his own pun while moving over to kneel beside the unit against the wall to peer at the modem.

"You like Dory?" Namjoon asked, eyes wide with awe at the thought of another person liking his favourite movies too.

"Of course!" The kneeling male enthused, looking over at Namjoon as if he was crazy for even asking a question, totally at ease with the child which Taehyung hadn"t expected. Most people were always cautious with new kids, even if they were fine with children in general. It was refreshing to meet someone who didn"t hesitate to interact with his son happily.
"Don"t you?"

"I love Dory! And Nemo! And and all the fishies!" Namjoon bounced in his seat.

"Wow, that"s a lot of love you have there in such a small body," Seokjin made an impressed sound that had Namjoon preening even if he didn"t fully understand what was said but the strange man made it sound like it was a very good thing.

"He does," Taehyung confirmed with a soft chuckle, putting a proud hand on his son"s head. Namjoon turned to beam equally as proud up at his father making both men laugh a little.

"Now, let"s see what"s got your TV so fussy so that you can get back to Dory," Seokjin hummed, already turning to begin work.

Taehyung felt a little awkward just standing and watching so he occupied himself by taking the empty plate from their breakfast to the kitchen which he rinsed off and then decided to wash up quickly and leave to dry on the rack.
He was barely gone a few minutes yet when he returned he found his son squatting by the man, peering into his open bag curiously and asking about everything he could see. The technician answered every question smoothly, seemingly unbothered by the nosey little human but Taehyung knew that it wouldn"t last; the man was probably just being polite and humouring the boy while secretly wishing that he would leave him in peace to do his job.

"Joon-bug, leave Seokjin-ssi alone to work," Taehyung called gently as he stood by the back of the couch.

"I ass-eating!" Namjoon exclaimed proudly. Taehyung"s eyes blew wide and Seokjin choked on his laugh.

"Assisting, you"re assisting me." Seokjin corrected, sending Taehyung an amused grin over his shoulder causing the father to relax and laugh a little at the innocent misspeak. Namjoon nodded firmly as if that is what he had said in the first place.
"He"s the cutest assistant I"ve ever had, he would definitely bring in customers."

"Ah, I"m afraid he"s too young to work quite yet, try again in a few years," Taehyung joked back.

"Cuteness depletes with age," Seokjin sighed dramatically and then made a show of looking Taehyung over carefully, deliberately taking in the tall man"s standing form. "Though, if these are the genes he has, I don"t think that will be a problem." The technician shot him a flirtatious wink before turning back to his iPad resting on his lap to check the testing progress.

Never in all his life had Taehyung"s features flushed so rapidly. He wasn"t used to such blatant flirting. Truth be told, most people that approached Taehyung always had some kind of sign of nerves due to his own intimidatingly good looks, it wasn"t ego talking but purely a fact that he had been told enough times to believe. So Taehyung wasn"t used to the complete lack of nerves, not a stammer or shy glance away. Seokjin was entirely confident in himself and his flirting capabilities but then again, looking like he did, Taehyung really couldn"t blame him because the man was unearthly levels of beautiful.

Upon managing to cool his features and collect himself, Taehyung spoke back up.
"Excuse me, Seokjin-ssi but would you and your cute assistant like a drink?" He offered with a friendly smile.

"Ah don"t bother yourself," Seokjin flapped a dismissive hand.

"It"s no bother, I was going to make one anyway." Was the returning assurance.

"Well, if you"re sure, tea would be lovely if you have any." The technician smiled gratefully over at Taehyung who nodded with his own smile.

"Appa love tea! Have lots!" Namjoon piped in.

"He"s right," The father chuckled. "I do have a lot. What kind do you like?"

"Honestly, I"ve never tried one I don"t like,"

"How about I surprise you then?" Taehyung offered, already stepping back towards the kitchen. He almost stumbled over his own slipper when Seokjin"s eyes darkened slightly while dragging over Taehyung"s long figure once again.

"I won"t ever say no to that," His tone was lower, suggestive and paired with a smirk that had Taehyung"s cheeks warming all over again.

"O-Okay,"

"Su"pise me too appa!" Namjoon insisted excitedly. Taehyung just turned and rushed into the kitchen.

The following minutes alone in the kitchen consisted of Taehyung pacing while silently berating himself mentally while making all the accompanying facial expressions. Once he was done telling himself off for getting so flustered he realised just what he had been doing and knew that he would"ve looked absolutely crazy if the technician had happened to wander into the kitchen at that moment. Namjoon, on the other hand, was very much used to the unusual behaviour from his father and himself was very expressive with his entire body in regards to whatever happened in his own private thoughts.
After another quick silent scolding, Taehyung made the drinks and took them into the living room after making sure that Namjoon"s was cool enough to drink straight away for the child.

"Flashing," Namjoon commented with wide, attentive eyes glued to the modem before him.

"Good, that means it"s trying to work really hard! Once it stops flashing we"ll try the TV again, okay?" Seokjin replied to the child at a gentle volume yet the general lack of noise in the apartment meant that Taehyung could also hear him clearly.

"Otay boss." His father couldn"t help but grin at the exchange. It was honestly beyond precious.

"Here you go, gentlemen," He announced his presence as he set the two mugs on the coffee table on matching wooden coasters hand painted with fish- some of Namjoon"s best work.

"T"ank you!" Namjoon bounced over to pick up his miniature mug shaped like a cartoon frog head and sipped at his drink. Taehyung watched his son fondly, not even bothered by the noisy slurping.

"Good tea, bug?" The boy nodded without stopping his drinking which only made Taehyung"s obvious fondness grow.

"And I do believe we have a connection," Taehyung"s attention was drawn by the technician who was pressing buttons on the TV remote.

"We do?"

"I"d like to think so. The internet is working again too," Seokjin winked at Taehyung and then had the gall to snigger at his blush. "Well, that"s me all done then. Your connection was being fussy, not the TV but it should be more than fine now." He informed while packing away his belongings into the bag, which Namjoon hopped over to help with by holding out a spare cable from the floor. "Thank you, my bestest assistant," Seokjin cooed tucking the wire into the bag while Namjoon beamed.

"Don"t forget your tea," Taehyung reminded when it looked as if Seokjin was about to get up and leave just like that seeing as his job was finished.

"Ah, right, yes," He shuffled over on his knees to pick the mug up and carefully sip at the hot liquid. "Tastes good, I think. It"s kind of just heat right now,"

"Well, you can wait until it cools down if you want." Taehyung offered sitting on the sofa only for Namjoon to immediately clamber up to fit himself back in his favourite place, squished up all snug against his dad"s side.

"Dory time, appa?" He requested, handing the remote to his father who hummed but waited for Seokjin to respond to the offer.

"There"s only like twenty minutes left of the movie too so your drink will be cool by the time it"s finishing."

"Are you suggesting I sit here and watch Finding Dory with my cute assistant and his beautiful appa while drinking tea instead of getting back to work?" Seokjin gasped theatrically splaying a hand over his chest for added measure.

"Only if you agree."

"Of course I agree!" Seokjin heaved himself up to plop onto the other end of the couch. Namjoon immediately shuffled upright and moved over to sit a little closer to the new male without letting go of his dad"s hand. The four-year-old grinned up at the man which he easily returned with just as much joy before they both looked at Taehyung with matching expectant gazes.
Taehyung only laughed to himself before pressing play and settling in to watch the end of the movie with his favourite little human and the flirtatious big human.

Half an hour later Taehyung walked Seokjin to the door while Namjoon ran off to put the DVDs back away in his room.

"Thanks for coming out so fast," Taehyung spoke gratefully as he leant on the open doorframe.

"How can I not come out fast when faced with the most attractive man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting?" Seokjin grinned slyly. It took Taehyung a second before he realised the double meaning and sighed earning a snort of laughter.

"A gay joke, really?"

"Hey, you set it up, I just deliver the lines, baby," Taehyung"s eyebrows raised at the pet name. For the first time in the hour that Taehyung had known the man, Seokjin"s confidence wavered and his cheeks pinked. "Uhm, I didn"t mean to like call you baby, it"s just a saying."

"Hm, right,"

"Okay I know I"ve been pretty much hitting on you nonstop this whole time but please don"t put a complaint in against me, my boss is my ex and that will get awkward really fas-"

"I"m not going to file a complaint," Taehyung assured with a giggle. "If I was against the flirting, you"d know it."

"Oh, really?" He nodded and the technician instantly relaxed, returning to his confident persona. "Does that mean you like it, Taehyung-ssi?"

"Well, I"m certainly not opposed to flirting with the most attractive man I"ve ever had the pleasure of meeting." It wasn"t quite a full smirk but it was getting there, more confident and forward now that he knew Seokjin wasn"t entirely unflappable; also the lack of a child between them really helped Taehyung"s game.

"So I wouldn"t be out of line giving you this?" He handed a business card to Taehyung who looked at it and noticed the rushed handwritten ink on it. "I was going to be sly and get your son to pass it along but I figured both that kids are very forgetful and lose stuff and also that you may not appreciate me roping your son in with my flirting plans,"

"Wise choice." Taehyung chuckled. "He"s a smart kid, really smart but his attention span isn"t the best unless sealife is involved."

"Ah, so if I want him to pass on a message, write it on a fishie note," Seokjin hummed understandingly and the father laughed again. "Well, I should go now, thank you for the tea, it was almost as delicious as you,"

"Do you ever stop?" He blushed.

"Nope!" Seokjin grinned and pointed to his personal phone number. "Don"t forget to text me so that we can keep working on improving this connection," With a final wink he turned and started to walk off.

"Do the jokes at least get better?" Taehyung called after him.

"Not a chance!"

Once Seokjin was out of sight, Taehyung turned and closed the door, leaning his back against it while smiling dopily at the card in his hands.

"Appa?" The four-year-old was only a few feet away and staring up at his dad curiously. "Will that hyung come back?"

"Hm, maybe. Do you like him?" Namjoon nodded instantly and enthusiastically while they trotted back to the couch to settle down.
"Me too, bug, me too."
