Work Text:
The pandemic made everyone's lives more difficult and chaotic. But for the Ghostbusters, it felt like a much needed break for them. Unless someone was dealing with another inter-dimensional being or the occasional historic god, most people had learned to live with their little Class 2 or 3 as company instead of a nuisance during quarantine. With less calls, also meant more free time for the busters. Ray Stantz could spend all day working on Ecto-1, Egon Spengler was doing who knows what up the lab, and Winston Zeddemore was able to spend time with his girlfriend and family more. Peter Venkman, on the other hand, wished that someone would call. He hated it when they would get nothing but emergency calls about a Class 6 or 8, even the little ones like Class 4s, but it beat just standing around. He couldn't even go visit Dana thanks to this stupid lockdown. So instead he glued himself to his desk trying to find ways to pass the time.
Ray had just come back from his shift at the Occult book store he ran. Plopping the stack of tomes, spirit guides, and other miscellaneous books onto the bottom stairs to grab later, He turned back around to grab some stuff out of Ecto when he spotted Peter, dozing off in the office space behind Janine's desk. Then Ray had an idea. Creeping up behind Venkman he shook the older buster a few times "Hey Peter wake up!" It took a few tries but Peter jolted up, mumbling something about a dream girl. "Ray, can you not interrupt my naps? That dream girl was really getting onto me" "Sorry Pete, I wanted to show you something, c'mon." Stantz didn't wait for a response and was up the stairs into the living area, his books still at the bottom. Peter trudged up the stairs grumbling the entire time. When he made it to the top, Ray was setting up some game on the console he got for Christmas last year as he handed one of his headphones and a controller to Peter. "You'll need one of these." Venkman didn't respond, he simply put the headphones around his neck and sat down on the old couch as it squeaked. When Ray finally got the game hooked up (Mario Kart, go figure), he joined Peter on the couch, plugged their headphones into the computer in front of him, and typed something on it. "Hey guys, how's it going!" "Hey Ray" "Howdy buddy." A wave of different voices soon flooded Peter's ears as he continued to sit and listen while Ray joined an online match. "I brought Venky to join our match, Peter say hi." "Hey, you all must be Ray's nerd friends." A few people responded back, some throwing in words he never heard before and a few insults. But he wasn't fully paying attention to what they were saying. Once you put Peter Venkman into a match of Mario Kart, he made sure to never lose.
He didn't win. Instead it was one of Ray's friends Tommy, some guy over in Europe. Everyone said their goodbyes and logged off and Ray went to shut the Switch off. There was some silence after the tv was shut off. Peter was the first to break it "So these are the guys you stay up till 4 in the morning with huh? How did you even meet any of them" "We just kind of ended up meeting." Ray sat back down and fidgeted with his hands for a second. "But that isn't important. Since quarantine we've all been getting together and hanging out. We can't go outside so, heh, it's the next best option. It's pretty fun too." "Well next time you get together for some online karting, tell me." Peter stood up and headed towards the kitchen area, grinning. He wasn't a huge fan of the weirdos Ray surrounded himself with, but it beat just standing around.
