Chapter Text
Four days.
About four days ago, Rick had called a meeting and said that he had found Maggie. Saying, she was in her house and had one demand which was that we wouldn’t come looking for her. Glenn sighed, he wanted to apologize to Maggie. See her at least one more time, but Rick insisted that we couldn’t go after her. Glenn turned himself on his side seeing Rosita sleeping peacefully next to him. He thought about what Carl had told him, ‘ If you do in fact care for her you’d let her be.’ that sentence echoed in his head, he still cared for Maggie and wanted to make sure she was in fact alright. He trusted Rick though, so he believes that Maggie is safe, and that she isn’t with Negan. But even if she is, he had no right to get angry about it.
He understood that.
Carl walked past the forest, keeping his knife close to him hearing the quiet, yet distinct sound of shuffling walkers nearby. After the whisper war they had gotten rid of a fairly big chunk of walkers. But not all of them, hell, it was impossible to get rid of every single walker. He crept further and further away from them. He turned around almost heading back for the walls of Alexandria, but he heard a rustle of leaves that sounded like someone. He snapped his direction to the sound slowly moving forward, his eyebrow quirked up when he saw the person and frowned when he realized who it was. Jesus.
Carl, crept closer to him making sure not to catch his attention. There was a small hill, and Carl was on the top while Jesus was at the bottom. Too focused on not making any noise Carl’s vision missed a branch and he tripped over it, falling down, and tumbling down the hill. Jesus’s attention snaps to him hearing the boy stumble downward the hill. “Carl?”he called, stunned. The young adult pushed himself off the ground, dusting the dirt off him and mumbling a cuss under his breath. “Were you following me?”, Jesus questioned, brows furrowing together in slight anger.
Carl scoffed, still brushing off some dirt, “No, I was just walking around and then I saw you.”, “What are you doing here?”, Carl asked, folding his arms. Jesus was about to respond but the slight groan of a walker was heard behind him, he pulled his knife from his holster stabbing it in its head. “So?”, Carl’s voice called, “Why’re you here?” Jesus ignored him, pulling his knife out the walkers head watching the body hit the dirt ground. He heard Carl huff in annoyance behind him, “You’re looking for Maggie, aren’t you?”, the boy then accused.
Jesus spun to face the boy, “I am. What’re you going to do about it?”. He walked past Carl shoving him to the side with his shoulder.
“My dad told us no to.”, Carl remarked.
“I don’t care what Rick says”,Jesus replied nonchalantly, still walking forward.
Carl shot him a glare, stopping to him yanking on his arm to keep him from going any further, “Even if you don’t care what Rick says, you have to think about Maggie. She. Doesn’t. Want. To. Be. Back right now.”, Carl spat.
Jesus, gave him a questionable look, “And how would you know that?”, he quipped, tilting his head to the right. Carl bites the side of his cheek unsure what to say, Jesus picks up on this his eyes widened a bit when he connected the dots, “You have already seen Maggie?!”, he spat.
“Yeah, I have. And she doesn’t want anyone to find her!”, he yelled
“Where is she?”, Jesus snapped, ignoring Carl’s first comment.
“Safe.”
Jesus rolled his eyes, folding his arms. He sighed, “You know what, fine.”, “Let’s go back. I’m not dealing with this right now, but anything happens to her, anything . That's on you.”
Rosita quickly accepted the matter, her main goal wasn’t forcing Maggie to come back; it was just to know if she was safe and if she could apologize to Maggie. Rick said Maggie was safe, in her own house not with Negan like she worried, and Rick had told the small group council that Maggie had left for a variety of reasons and she just needed to sort them out herself. So when she saw Jesus and Carl storming in Alexandria like they’d just finished arguing it caught her interest.
She hoisted herself up from the bench she was sitting at, making her to Carl and Jesus, “Where were you two?”
Carl and Jesus exchanged glances, “None of your business”, Jesus then snarled, turning to Rosita before stomping off. Rosita rolled her eyes watching Jesus storm off.
“What's his problem?”, she retorted, turning back to Carl.
Carl waved it off, “Don’t worry about it. He’s just stressed.”
Rosita put her hand on her hip, “You alright, looks like you fell.”
“I’m fine.”
Rosita almost dismissed herself until Carl spoke, “Hey I need to tell you something.”
“Yeah?”
“You shouldn’t blame Jesus because of Maggie, if anything it's my fault.”
“Well, you didn’t tell-”
“No. I did, It was me, it wasn’t Jesus.”
She was quiet maybe for too long. She let out a sharp breath, Carl was half prepared to just run away. And to his surprise she just took in the information and then left.
That's how the week passed. Quiet, Jesus quit looking for Maggie especially after Daryl, Carol and Aaron came to visit from the Kingdom. While they had questioned where Maggie was a quick answer was given and not further discussed. Everyone just now knew, Maggie was by herself. Alone, until she figures things out.
Only Carl and his father knew that Maggie was with Negan. Were they going to tell anyone? Probably not. Maybe it's best that people believe what they’ve told.
It’s been a month now.
Since anyone has really brought up Maggie. They knew she was safe, but she said when she’d solve her problems. Thankfully no one ever really questioned it.
But, one day. Aaron went out on a run with Michonne.
The two were going through the woods, looking for some sort of food. Not that they were low on food, but Judith’s birthday was coming up. Shocking that someone actually kept track, none other than her own brother: Carl. Anyways Michonne had suggested that they go find an animal with their luck, maybe a deer. Aaron had volunteered to tag along, and now there the two were, scouting through the woods. The heard a soft rustling through the fallen leaves and slight snap of a branch and to peak the attention a noise that sounded a lot like a pig. Aaron followed the noise attempting to keep as quiet as possible as Michonne trailed behind him. They followed the noise for a moment and then came across the animal, the pig was relatively small but it was rare. Aaron swiftly pulled his knife and the pig snapped its direction to him probably hearing the swift sound that the knife made. The pig almost ran but Aaron jumped and was able to grab it but its legs, and stabbed it right in the head. He heard laughing behind him and turned to Michonne chuckling.
“What's so funny?”, he asks, picking up the pig.
She brushes it off, “Oh, nothing. But you looked pretty hilarious when you jumped to grab the pig”, she giggled.
He smirks, holding the dead pig, “We should probably get going. Won’t want anyone to worry”.
She nods, “I was actually thinking that I take another stroll through here. I mean we only found one pig.”, “I’ll be back, you can head back, just tell everyone I went to walk around”, she said, walking past Aaron.
Aaron felt like asking, but dismissed his thoughts and instead, adjusted the bag he had on his shoulder and went to return to Alexandria. While Michonne walked through the woods, she found herself quite deep in the forest. Not that she minded. She was about to head back when she heard a slight voice of two people talking. She quirked up her brow a bit, following the murmuring voice until she came along a stream, she stood behind a tree peeking through to see the two strangers. Well, she thought they were strangers. When she heard the sound of slight southern-accent and accompanied by a low male voice responding she realized who the two ‘strangers’ were.
It was Maggie and Negan.
Slowly she peeked behind the tree, only to have to blink a few times. Maggie, Negan. Holding hands? She was confused, baffled, shocked, whatever you’d use to describe it. She was smiling at him, while he stared lovingly at her. Michonne nearly jumped from her hiding spot, wanting to ask all the questions that were whirring around in her head. Rick had said Maggie was by herself, then again, it has been quite a long time since anyone’s brought up the topic. She crept slowly from her hiding spot, as she saw the two had turned away and oh, god, wrong step, she cracked a branch. Shit. Shit. Maggie turned to see her and her eyes went wide, seeing Michonne after so long. Gee, and then she saw Negan's shocked expression just like Maggie.
“Hey, Maggie”, Michonne then greeted, awkwardly.
