Chapter Text
Kara giggled when Barry sniffed at the screen of the movie they were watching.
It was morning, around eleven am, two days later, and they were watching a movie that Kara had always loved called Tuck Everlasting while they ate. It was the first movie Eliza had introduced to her when she became a refugee on Earth, and it held a special place in Kara's heart. She'd wanted to watch it with her friends, knowing that Oliver would suffer through it for her, and that Barry would immediately fall in love. She'd been right.
She watched Barry shake his head when he found out that Winnie didn't drink the water from the Tree Of Everlasting Life, and smiled when Oliver laughed at him.
Oliver was making them breakfast, again, since neither her nor Barry could cook, and when she'd told him he didn't need too, he'd said "Neither of you can cook worth shit, Kara. You'd both end up giving us food poisoning. I'll be cooking for as long as I'm here." And Kara had relented, grumbling about him always being right. Right now, he was making waffles with a side of bacon and fruit, and he'd made fresh orange juice.
"Breakfast is ready," he told them, setting the plates of food on the table. Barry literally raced to the table, taking his spot and immediately digging in, Kara not far behind him.
Oliver shook his head at them. "I swear you both could out eat a million people in one sitting."
"Speedster," and "Alien," came from the two of them, and Oliver closed his eyes sighing.
"Eat quickly. We have things to do today." He told them, and Kara smiled at him. He felt his pulse speed up a little at that, and he gave her a small smile back.
Barry groaned when he got his hands on the bacon. "Oli, this is amazing, oh my god!"
Kara nodded in agreement as she bit into a chocolate chip waffle. "This is amazing, Oliver. Thank you."
Oliver nodded. "Of course," he told them, and the three of them went silenr as they ate, the only sounds heard being the scaping of silverware against porcelain plates and sighs.
After they finished eating, Barry stood and gathered all of their plates, walking over to put them in the sink to wash later while Oliver put the extra fruit and orangw juice back into the fridge.
Kara smiled at them, her heart burtsting with gratitude for them. She was extremely thankful for them. The night before had been more rough than the first night they'd been here, and instead of going back to their room, they had stayed with her all night after she fell back asleep after they woke her (without anyone being hurt, this time). She'd not had any nightmares that night after she fell back asleep, and she knew it was because Oliver and Barry had stayed with her. She felt safe with them.
She and Oliver may have gotten off to a rough start, but she knew, after spending time with him and after he helped her through a fit of anger by letting her scream and cry, and work through her anger at Rhea, all without flinching, she knew she was safe, and protected with him. She knew she didn't need protection, especially since she was an almost invincible alien and Oliver was a human who had many more weaknesses than her, but it was nice to have; it was nice to feel like she had people she could count on.
It was the same with Barry, she mused. Barry had been there for her since Siobhan "Banshee" Smythe her first year as Supergirl when he saved her from getting hurt, even though she didn't need it. He'd stood by her and made sure no-one treated her unfairly (Oliver not included) just because they didn't know her during the dominator invasion on Earth-1 just days before his pod landed on Earth. Just last night he'd calmed her through a panic attack. They used both of their extrapolators to talk to each other constantly, helping each other through whatever was going on with them, and when he had asked her if he and Oliver could stay with her for a while to get away, she jumped at the chance to have her best super friend as close as she could get him. Just like with Oliver, she felt the safest when with him, knowing he'd do anything to help him.
She knew that as long as she was with them, she was safe, and they would make sure she was as okay as she could be.
Barry returning to the table and snapping his fingers in front of her face brought her out of her thoughts, and he smirked cheekily at her. "Why do you look like a puppy who just got handed a bone?"
Kara grinned, standing and going over to grab her phone from the coffee table. "Just thinking about the both of you," she smiled as Oliver walked out of his and Barry's room wearing a dark jade green leather jacket. She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow at him. He raised an eyebrow back, and she scoffed, shaking her head at him. "Typical Oliver Queen," She laughed.
Barry snorted at Oliver's incredulous look. "She's not wrong, Oli." He grinned at him, and Oliver shook his head.
"Come on. We are sight-seeing today, and Kara is showing us the DEO and her work, so if we want to do what we were planning on doing today, we should get going," Oliver said, walking to the door and opening it, inclining his head towards it.
"Right, let's go." Kara nodded. "We're going to CatCo first, and then we're going to some of my favorite places in the city, and afterwards for dinner we are going to one of the alien bars. Today you're getting the full National City of Earth-38 experience!" She smiled, and walked out, leaving Barry to scramble after her, and OLiver to roll his eyes and lock the door behind him when he shut it.
"And here is where all the magic happens!" Kara waved her hands around her, showing off the various desks and people milling about working and conversing, along with people typing on computers or iPads.
"At least Siobahn Smythe isn't here to "Mariyah Carrey" you out of the windows this time." Barry commented, smirking when Kara shuddered and threw a glare at the window closest to her.
She punched his arm, throwing a little of her super strength into it, causing him to grunt in pain. "We do not mention her, ever!" She hissed. "Rao, I hated her. I wanted to throw her into space, for the sake of it!" She glared.
"Siobahn Smythe?" Oliver asked curiously, causing Barry to smirk and turn to Kara, who sighed.
"She was-" She was interrupted when a loud "Kiera!" was called from about 10 feet away, causing Kara to wince, and turn around.
"Hi, Ms. Grant!" She smiled, smacking Barry when he happily waved at Cat, and glared at Oliver when he smirked. She reluctantly dragged her two friends over to her, and immediately, Cat seemed to recognize Barry.
Cat looked Barry up and down, and then smirked when he fidgeted under her gaze. "Mr. Allen, The Streak, or rather, The Flash, as you seem to be partial too. I still prefer The Streak, but whatever, it's up to you to make such a fool of yourself with that terrible name. What's brought you back to National. . ." Cat trailed off, finally realizing that there was another man next to Kara. She smirked, walking over to him and obviously checking him out. "Who's this very fine specimen, then, Kiera?" She turned to Kara, watching as she moved closer to Barry and pulled Oliver a little closer to her.
"Ms. Grant, this is Oliver Queen, from Starling City," Kara introduced.
"Ms. Grant, it's nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you." Ever so polite when in a social setting with new people, Oliver held out his hand, smiling.
"Pleasure, Mr. Queen," Cat purred, taking his hand. She turned her attention back to Kara when she started talking again.
"He's staying with me for a while. and you already know Barry. He's also staying with me for a while." Kara offered no explanation as to why Oliver and Barry were staying with her, and Cat seemed to notice the three of them didn't want to talk about it, seeing as all three had completely tensed up so she nodded.
"Isn't it your week off, Kiera? Why are you here?" She diverted the attention from the men, and instead focused it on Kara.
"We're leaving soon so I can show Oliver and Barry around National, but I thought I would give them a tour of CatCo, seeing as they're staying with me, so if they need me, and can't get ahold of me, they know where to look." Kara explained, and Cat narrowed her eyes on her.
Cat was a reporter. Being observant was her job, and while she may not have been the most observant of Kara when she wasn't specifically tasking her with something, (yes, she knew her name. She'd always known her name, and she was known to use it on occasion, after all) she knew her, and this wasn't Kara. Whatever was bothering her, whatever was going on with her friends, and whatever was going on in her head, she knew her former assistant, and this wasn't the Kara she knew. She could see the dark bags around Kara's eyes, and the way she moved lethargically, like she'd not been sleeping. Cat cared for her, in her own Cat Grant way, and while she wouldn't ever let Kara know, she cared more for Kara than any other assistant she'd ever had, including her current one. She hummed in response to her, and waved her away when Kara fidgeted under her scrutiny. "Go on, then Kiera. I don't want to see you back here until your break is over, understand?" She narrowed her eyes at Kara, smiling smugly when Kara nodded and tugged her friends out after her.
"Have a nice day, Ms. Grant!" Barry waved as Kara dragged him and Oliver off. "Have a good afternoon!"
Cat shook her head, going back to her office and sitting at her desk running a hand through her hair and putting it up into a ponytail afterward. She set her glasses on her nose, opening her laptop, calling out for her assistant. "Linda! Get me a chef salad, and add a cheeseburger on top for lunch, now!" Her assistant, Malinda, or Linda, as Cat called her, even though she liked to be called Mindy, meekly nodded and rushed off to do as told. Cat went back to her article, her mind on her former assistant and how horrible she seemed to be handling the destruction of the city.
Kara sighed when she felt the fresh breeze outside of the office. "I hate it when she just. . .appears out of nowhere." She groaned as Oliver laughed, and Barry shook his head at her.
"Can't you hear her coming?" Barry asked, and Kara shrugged.
"Sometimes. It really depends on if she's wearing heels or not, she's just so. . .quiet!"
"Speaking of quiet, has she kept Barry's identity quiet? Since she seems to know?" He asked, and Kara immediately nodded.
"She knows my secret, I'm pretty sure, always has, and she's known Barry's since she met him. She'll no doubt figure out yours if you suit up at any point during your stay here. Cat knows the price of identity, and she knows we could be hurt or killed, or the people close to us could be if it was leaked." Kara explained.
Barry nodded. "If she'd told anyone who I was, I doubt I'd be allowed to roam freely without someone recognizing me." He agreed.
Oliver sighed. He didn't like the idea of someone with that much media power knowing their identities, and would soon have his, but he trusted his friends' judgment. If they trusted Cat Grant, he'd learn too. "Alright. But I reserve the ability to take her out if she leaks it." Kara scowled, but said nothing to him, just shaking her head.
"Come on! We have a DEO to see, boys! I'm going to fly us there so we get there faster, so hang on tight to each other, and don't look down."
After they nodded, she grabbed them, pulled them to an empty alley, and after checking no-one was there, quickly spun, tearing her clothes off to reveal her Supergirl suit and her hair was down, barry holding her glasses. She grabbed the back of their jackets, and took off.
