Work Text:
It had been 7 years. 7 years since she had taught in that blasted classroom.
Irina often wondered what it would have been like if Korosensei had lived. It was always in the back of her mind. Even with Tadaomi as her husband and her beautiful daughter, she still wondered what would be different. How would her former students lived the rest of their lives if their beloved sensei had lived.
She knew what a few of them were doing now; Tomohito was a college baseball player, and a damn good one at that, Karma was a bureaucrat, probably close to running the world now, Kaede had gone back to acting, using all of the things that she had learnt to improve her performance and Nagisa had become a teacher. Irina knew that it would be easy for Nagisa to surpass hers and Tadaomi’s teaching methods and possibly even Korosensei’s.
Nagisa had always been the most impressive of her students, in both assassination and others. He had the potential to go far in both teaching and assassination but Irina was glad that he had chosen the former. She would have hated it if one of her students had lost their way as she had.
She had chosen the path of an assassin when she was a child and Irina knew there was no looking back. There was no point imagining that life that she could have had if she declined the offer that Lovro and Olga had given her. But she had made sure that her students understood the cost of continuing in assassination. A business like this could easily lead to one losing themselves. She had seen it happen. A perfect example was The Grim Reaper 2.0. That kid had lost himself so completely, it had lead to his death.
But there are times when the life of an assassin leads to good things. And Irina was one of these times. If she had chosen not to become an assassin then she would never have become good enough to teach a class of brats how to kill. If she had never had that opportunity, then she would have never met Tadaomi and if she had never met Tadaomi, then she would never have had her perfect daughter.
Irina’s daughter was the best thing that ever happened to her. The little girl had already made herself a harem in her nursery. She clearly took after her mother. Irina would sometimes visit her former students, unbeknownst to them, just to make sure they were doing well. She had made a silent promise to Korosensei just as he died to protect his precious students at all costs. They had meant everything to him and though she won’t ever admit it, Irina had grown fond of those little brats. And she was proud of where they had gotten.
Occasionally, Irina would receive texts from Touka and Hinano, her most devoted and loved students. They kept her updated on what they were doing and how they used what she had taught them in there lives. Hearing their stories always warmed Irina’s heart.
Her year in class 3-E had changed her and definitely for the better. She had learnt things she would never had learned out in the field and the experiences that Irina had had were to die for. A few days before joining the classroom she would never had imagined that she would have used her looks to convince high school students to spend their entire wallets on her students’ food. It was such a mundane memory, yet such a lovely one too.
The things her students went through affected her as well. She remembered on the day of their final exam, just how worried she was for them, though she didn’t show it. When she had found out that Nagisa had faced Takaoka alone, Irina almost had a heart attack. At the start of the year, she had only seen the kids as some brats that would get in her way, but by the end of it. Irina and she knew, Tadaomi thought of them as their children.
Irina had lost her family when she was a child, but with Class E, she had a new, chaotic family.
