Work Text:
Elliot came out of the room after Kathy was conscious and stable. He saw Olivia still there waiting.
Olivia was panicking as her former partner walked in her direction to know what's going on with his wife. "How is she doing?" She was surprised that her voice delivered that question so calmly.
Elliot cleared his throat, "Want some water?" His thumb scratched his forehead like he always does when he tries to avoid a conversation.
Olivia stepped closer to Elliot, "What happened?"
He saw the pain in her eyes. "Blood clot. And… She… She wants to talk to you." He finally looked at her.
"Okay let's go." She walked into the direction of Kathy's room.
Elliot was stationary, "Alone."
Olivia's heart sank not ready to hear those words, "Ye… yeah of course." She looked at that empty hallway, and back at Elliot. "I'll be right back."
Olivia took a deep breath as she walked towards the hallway that seemed to stretch into a longer room.
*FLASHBACK before season nine*
"You're pregnant?" Olivia sat down on her couch next to Kathy Stabler. "Is it his?" Olivia's heart was racing not liking this idea.
Kathy's watery eyes looked at Olivia, "You knew this was never supposed to last." Kathy's voice softened as she explained to Olivia.
"But Kathy, you were finally free of him. I have never seen you so happy living your life finally." Olivia held Kathy's hand.
"I know, he's the father of all my children." Kathy broke eye contact.
Olivia shook her head looking down on the floor. "Do you still love him? Is it worth it?"
Kathy brushed Olivia's hair back with her fingers, "I will always love him. And I think so." She gently massaged Olivia's neck. "You know this won't change us. You and I had…. Have something special."
Olivia looked back at the blonde. "You mean that?" Olivia smirked.
"Have I ever lied to you?" Kathy smiled at the brunette.
Olivia walked into the cold room seeing Kathy laying there. She sat down next to Elliot's seat. "What is up with you and me and hospitals." Kathy smiled at Olivia.
Olivia smiled at the brunette for lightening the mood of the room. "Something about your husband being a cop." Olivia looked down at Kathy's body. Her heart sank knowing this wasn't how this should have been. She didn't want to see Kathy for the first time in ten years strapped down to a hospital bed. She watched Kathy flex her hand. Olivia finally took her hand.
"Took you long enough." Kathy's smile remained on her damaged face. Olivia's tears fell from her eyes as her head sank. "You can't do that. After ten years…"
Olivia shook her head to try to lose her emotions. "You're right. What is he doing here? It was supposed to be just you." Olivia still doesn't want to speak to the man sitting in the waiting room. The man who tossed her out of his life like garbage.
"He was coming over to the states, and it might have slipped. He wanted to know why I wanted to join him." She looked into the brown eyes. "How's Noah?" She knew about Olivia's son after the constant emails they exchanged through the ten years.
Olivia was trying to keep it together but Kathy trying to be caring on her deathbed was stabbing Olivia's heart. "He's fine, and how's Eli?"
"Thirteen and taller than me." Kathy cleared her throat. "When I get out of here you owe me a pizza and a beer."
"You don't get enough pizza in Italy?"
"Not New York pizza." They laughed at the comment. They took a moment of silence to take everything in.
Kathy tightened her grip on Olivia's hand. "Are you okay?"
"When we found out about Eli, and you asked if I thought it was worth going back to Elliot?" Kathy started.
"Kathy." Olivia didn't want to hear the next sentence. Her emotions were going crazy.
"It wasn't worth it. After we moved to Italy, Elliot was away more. I had my fair share of women but they never compared." She confessed that she was unfaithful to Elliot.
Olivia really couldn't take any more confessions from the Stabler family. "You have Elliot."
"He wasn't you. I guess." She cleared her voice. "Knowing you were right there working beside him. I could handle being with him more."
"Shhh. this is the concussion talking." Olivia needed Kathy to be calm in her condition.
"It's not and if I don't make it. I want you to know that you were worth it. We didn't just have a crazy rebound affair. I loved you." Kathy expressed.
"I loved you too," Olivia smiled out.
Olivia was in her office trying to focus on the job and her cases that she was working on, along with the Stabler case. She couldn't get Kathy's voice out of head. She hated that Elliot was here. She hated that he treated them like they still have their relationship from ten years ago. She had plans with Kathy. They stay in contact even after Elliot stopped speaking. She was closer to Kathy than Elliot after the separation.
*FLASHBACK sometime after Ghost*
Olivia opened her door to Kathy Stabler. "Kathy? What are you doing here." She asked the blonde.
Kathy looked at the short haired brunette detective, with watery eyes. "Can we talk?"
"Yeah, What's up?" Olivia stepped to the side to let Kathy into her apartment.
She walked in and turned left into her kitchen area. She placed the brown bag that was in her hands on to the counter. "Do you have glasses?" She took out the handle of vodka, juice, and a two liter bottle of soda.
"Yeah of course," Olivia took out two glasses for Kathy to make drinks. "Do you want me to order take out? What are you in the mood for?" Olivia watched the blonde shake her head. Kathy tightly gripped the counter. She stretched looking down at the kitchen tiles.
Olivia rubbed Kathy's back. "Come on, Let's sit down." She covered the pale hand with her own.
Kathy took a deep breath as she stood back up. She looked so defeated. She agreed with Olivia's suggestion. She walked with Olivia into the living room. Olivia sat her down. Olivia made the drinks Kathy wanted to have. Kathy appreciated the strong beverage she made.
Olivia sat down next to her. Olivia's on the back of the couch. Her knee touching the back cushion for her to be able to look at the blonde. "Are you okay?" She asked Kathy who was staring in between her feet.
"How do you get over someone so important?" Kathy wanted to get over Elliot. "Everytime he picks up the twins. He tries to sweet talk me and I'm just tired of him." She sighed out.
"Kathy, I'm not one to ask for this kind of advice." Olivia's voice shook.
"Why? My friends think I'm overreacting and should just go back to him."
Olivia looked at Kathy, knowing how many times she has seen him put Kathy's emotions to the side. She couldn't count how many times she has been concerned for Kathy over Elliot. Or how many times she would be possessive of Kathy being his wife. Just like she couldn't count how many times Elliot needed to know who Olivia was dating. "I don't think you are overreacting." She cleared her throat. "And I also don't think you should go back to him. You deserve better than what he puts you through."
Kathy was shocked with those words. She has never heard someone in her life tell her that during the whole separation. "Do you want me to give up on him so you can be with him?" She looked at the brown-eyed woman.
"Come on Kathy," Olivia has never thought of Elliot sexually during their years of partnership. "You know I'm gay." She held the blonde's hand.
"How did you move on from Alex," She knew how serious she was with Alex and you were a wreck at Alex's staged funeral, "and were you still over her when she was just in town?" Olivia gave Kathy a sideways look. "He told me."
"She was hard to get over. Knowing we can't be together because of a case we worked on. Knowing we were talking about marriage and children and she was just taking away. I couldn't breathe for the longest time." Olivia's heart will always break talking about Alexandra Cabot. "But days started getting better soon it turned into weeks and I was finally better." She admitted her feelings and how she healed. "But I know she is safe. And eventually she will be back." Olivia smiled, "And When she was back we wanted to escape and stay in that hotel room. So no we aren't over it." Olivia explained, "But I wouldn't compare My relationship with Alex to yours and Elliot. We didn't have a choice and you have a choice." Olivia might have said the wrong thing.
"And you think it is the right choice?"
Olivia inched closer to Kathy. She placed her hand on Kathy's knee. "You need someone who will treat you like gold. I love Elliot and he wants the best for his family. But he is a blind idiot." Olivia calmly explained to the green eyes sitting on her couch. "Maybe you can suggest therapy or something to help you."
"You honestly think he will go?" She scoffed as she mirrored Olivia's position.
"I don't know." Olivia truthfully answered.
Kathy looked at Elliot's partner. She looked at the hand on her knee. She's never really had this kind of one on one moments with Olivia. She could see why Elliot cares about Olivia so much.
Olivia still didn't get why Kathy turned to her for emotional support. She did like having an in depth emotional conversation with someone since Alex. She looked at Kathy's glass. She placed her hand on the empty glass in her hand. "Here let me make you another drink."
Olivia tried to stand up with her glass hand being anchored. Kathy pulled Olivia down pressing her hand on Olivia's shoulder keeping her from moving. She placed the glass down on the coffee table "I don't need a refill." Kathy pressed her lips against Olivia's lips.
Olivia was shocked by Kathy making a move on her. With the lack of movement Kathy softly cupped Olivia's cheeks. Olivia's mouth parted as her licked Kathy's lips. Kathy allowed Olivia's tongue to enter her mouth. Kathy pulled them down as she adjusted her legs to welcome Olivia to press her body against Kathy's. Olivia's tongue deepened their kiss as she was exploring the flavors of Kathy Stabler's mouth.
Olivia loved the feeling of being in someone's arms once again. She enjoyed the taste of the blonde on her couch. Kathy was a great kisser that she could get lost for hours with the soft lips against hers.
"Touch me." Kathy whispered into Olivia's mouth.
Olivia heard Kathy's buttons on her shirt pop open. "We can't." Olivia broke the kiss out of breath. She hovered over Kathy laying on her couch. She looked up and down seeing the red lacy bra against her pale skin. "He's my partner."
"We don't have to answer him." She was separated from Elliot and doesn't need permission to do anything. Kathy played with Olivia's hair that gave Olivia's goosebumps. She gently moved Olivia's hand to press against her breast. "Touch me." Olivia automatically squeezed the chest. Olivia was staring at the beautiful chest. She bit her lip. Kathy watched Olivia's nose flare as she was stuck with temptation. Kathy nibbled on Olivia's earlobe. "Show me what is like to be with a woman." She whispered. She needed to know someone else besides Elliot Stabler.
Olivia locked eyes with Kathy's green eyes. She knew she shouldn't sleep with her best friend's future ex wife. But Kathy had needs. The same needs that she had after Alex. Who was she to deny a woman's needs. Her tongue dove back into Kathy's mouth to start a passionate kiss. If Kathy wanted to know what it was like to be with a woman she better make it count.
"Captain?" Kat was trying to get her boss' attention.
Olivia was staring at a point in the wall not being able to not think about her first time with Kathy. Amanda entered the room to see Olivia out of it. "Hey give us five minutes." Amanda commented to Kat.
Kat walked out the door. Amanda closed the door of the office to give them privacy. She closed the blinds. "Olivia." Amanda tapped Olivia.
Olivia jumped out of her trance. "Amanda." Olivia shook her head. Her hands cupped her face sliding up into her hair. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay." Amanda knelt down. "Do you need to tell the chef you need time off?" She asked Olivia.
"No, we need to figure this out."
"Are you sure? Between your partner who ghosted you for ten years and your ex."
Olivia quickly heard the word Amanda used, "Shhh." Amanda gave her a side look. "Nobody else knows we were.. really close."
"After all these years? It shouldn't matter should it if Elliot doesn't care about you to tell you he quit that who cares what you did." Amanda had no interest in Elliot Stabler. She met Olivia when he abandoned her and made Olivia emotional. "You really cared about her didn't you?"
"She told me that she loved me today." Olivia whispered, "And going back to him while they were separated wasn't worth it." Olivia's eyes got watery thinking about those words again.
"And do you think she will leave him? Sounds like karma for him," Amanda smirked.
Olivia rolled her eyes and smiled at Amanda's joke, "That's not funny."
"But you're smiling." Amanda looked up into Olivia's eyes and held her knees.
"She was so close leaving him last time, and then she got pregnant. We weren't supposed to last anyways. So this shouldn't bother me."
Amanda jumped into a hug for Olivia to be able to feel something and it was not being about detective Stabler. "You're human, and you were close to her. And you stayed in contact with her behind his back. She's your friend, let it out."
Olivia tightly closed the hug as tears were finally allowed to escape her eyes. Being grateful for Amanda, Olivia let out a cry.
Olivia walked off the elevator onto Kathy's floor. She wasn't ready to see this even though she's been preparing herself for this to be a possibility all week. Walking down the hallway she could Kathy's breathing. She could still taste the sweet salty skin on her tongue. She got goosebumps thinking how many times she high pitched cried into her ear as she would reach her climax.
Olivia saw Elliot standing outside of Kathy's room. She saw the empty bed. Olivia's heart sank down seeing she was actually gone. Elliot turned to Olivia. She knew the pain he had in his eyes. She had to be strong in this moment. Elliot pulled Olivia in for a hug, he needed someone to lean on. He sobbed into her neck.
Olivia pulled him tighter to take care of Elliot and her emotions. She took a deep breath looking at the bed. She closed her eyes as she rubbed Elliot's back.
*FLASHBACK*
Olivia was laying naked on her stomach with her sheets tangled in her body. She watched the pale body leaving the bed to gather clothes. "Do you have to leave this time?" She reached her hand across the bed.
Kathy smirked sitting down on the bed, not looking at Olivia, "Don't you have work?"
"I'll call out." Olivia rolled onto her back to get closer to Kathy.
Kathy licked her lips to form a smile. She stretched her neck out to turn to Olivia. "You would do that for me?" She raised her brow as she brushed her thumb against Olivia's lip.
"I would. I would do that so we can escape the world together."
The back of Kathy's finger trailed down Olivia's body. The gentle brush of skin contact Kathy watched Olivia's nipples become erect. "What would we do on your day off?" She bit her lip as her eyes found the brown eyes again.
Olivia just wanted to be around Kathy Stabler. "Order take out, and lay here."
Kathy fell back, placing her head on Olivia's stomach. "You know you don't have to order take out. I can cook out for us."
Olivia played the soft hair that she pushed off of her stomach and on to the bed. "When you are here you are not responsible for anyone." Her fingers began to make circles on the pale naked stomach. "So will you stay here with me?"
"I will stay with you as long as you like." She locked fingers with Olivia's hand. "I won't leave you."
