Just An Ordinary Day

Summary:

Shisui invites Naruto and Madara to an abandoned training ground.

Work Text:

So Shisui had a thing.

Fire burning bright orange, consuming everything on its paths, the smell of the things he burnt, the heat on his face, the sound as they started to blacken...

Shisui loved liked to light things on fire. Different things that could catch fire; trees, branches, leaves, enemies' corpses, his old possessions, carrots, et cetera, et cetera. It was oddly therapeutic. It was satisfying to watch things burn. And yes, it was fun. It was also secretly his hobbies ― not that he'd tell anybody.

And so here he was, in the middle of an abandoned training ground, with Uchiha Madara and Naruto as company.

"So why are we here again?" Naruto piped up behind him.

"We're here to watch me burn some porns," Shisui chirped, suppressing his excitement with a cough right thereafter.

Naruto blinked, rightly confused. "Uh?"

Shisui took one breath and sneered. "The porns are in my way to get any training done. That damn copy cat of a captain will lose his precious first edition porns and it will be all his own damned fault." He deliberately paused. "They're all signed, first edition porns, mind you."

Taking the sight of the frankly touched-in-the-head boy before him with amusement, Madara commented, "I'm sure it'll be a quite a tragedy for that poor boy."

"What in the world? This is over some porn books?" Naruto muttered, dismay laced her tone. She turned to Madara. "Jii-chama! Why are we indulging him?"

Madara absently hummed. "Ah, it must be nostalgia, dear granddaughter of mine." He addressed Shisui, "You must be from Hikaku's line." At their blank stares, Madara plopped down. "Hikaku, my first cousin, liked to watch things burn with his Sharingan. They said it's a trait from his mother's line. There's a perk for that kind of hobby, of course, as he's the only few of our clan that would volunteer himself to burn the corpses of our enemies to ashes. And that takes patience; a trait of which I unfortunately didn't possess back then."

With the explanation finished, Shisui averted his gaze from Naruto's I-still-don't-get-it face. He fished out Kakashi's precious books from his pouch and aggressively threw them to the ground. Three tomoe Sharingan active, he didn't waste any time and rapidly performed a chain of handseals.

"Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!"

All he could see was orange of the fire. Shisui laughed, not minding Naruto's wide-eyed (she was awed, he was sure) stare directed at him. Finally. Finally Shisui got to watch the damn books burn. Burn to ashes before his very eyes!

"Hmm. That shape. It's a perfect Gōkakyū," Madara observed. "Maybe I should teach you some of my personal Katon Jutsu. You've got the capacity for it."

Shisui abruptly froze, not expecting that. No way. He didn't hear that right, did he? He was imagining things.

"So? Will you be up to it?"

"Oji-sama." Shisui's voice was breathy and he suddenly felt dizzy, his eyes turned black as he met his distant relative's. "I―I'm honoured. Please teach this worthless one."

It was a fine day. An ordinary day for everyone but one Uchiha Shisui.
