Work Text:
Yachi should feel happy for her friend. Her getting married to one of the most devoted men she's ever seen, who obviously makes her happy. She can already see the pure look of happiness on their parents' faces, watching their daughter get married to a boy who has loved her since high school.
She fucking hates it.
The outside of the venue was gorgeous. There were fake vines around the front entrance, surrounded by roses. It made her want to leave immediately.
She doesn’t need to be here. She’s not the maid of honor or anything; or anything important at all in general.
Yachi contemplates taking a quick drag before Yamaguchi starts walking over to her.
So much for a cigarette, then.
“Hey Yach, haven’t seen you since spring.” Yamaguchi smiles, though his words don’t match the expression.
“Yeah I’ve been occupied,” crying over the girl whose wedding she is at, “with school.”
He nods as he leads her over to a table at the side of the area. Alcohol.
She’s going to need that.
-
Everyone else has already arrived.
The main crew of the old volleyball team is near the middle of the left side, talking amongst each other.
“Hey Yachi!” Hinata calls.
Fuck.
She waves as she makes her way over to the group.
They haven’t changed much.
Kageyama grew his hair out, Hinata keeping it the same. Tsukki looks mostly the same, still tall as hell. Daichi grew his hair out a bit.
About the same.
“Hey, how are you guys?” She asked as she smiled awkwardly.
“How are we? Our boy is getting married,” Nishinoya grinned.
“And Kiyoko,” Daichi added. “Yeah Kiyoko too.”
She put on a fake smile as she nodded and sat down at the free seat Hinata pointed to.
-
She’s going to vomit.
The notion makes the guilt in her stomach start to stir and make her feel like she’s going to throw up.
She should be happy.
Happy that the woman she loves is marrying someone that makes her happy, that's good for her.
The guilt continues to brew as she steps to the side when she walks down the isle.
She has to maintain a gasp when she sees her. Kiyoko looks gorgeous.
Kiyoko had always been pretty but now in the light of the sun reflecting off of her and the creamy white color of her dress mixing with her skin, she looked glorious.
Tanaka was standing on the stage, looking like he might burst into tears at any second.
The vows were cheesy as she expected, leading up to the exchange of ‘I do’s’.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
The moment the words left the officials lips, she could barely see over her glossy eyes. It’s undisturbed as everyone in the crowd just smiles, a few wiping tears. The longer she stares, the more blurry her vision gets.
When they step off-stage to dance is when she makes her way back to the table Yamaguchi showed her.
She watches her friends clap as they start the slow dance, locking eyes with Yamaguchi. He looks like he's pitying her. It makes her angry.
“Is this expensive,” She says to the guy sitting at the drink stand.
“Kind of.”
She plants a 50 on the table as she burps, “That should be something,” She says as she walks towards the entrance.
She's about to exit when she feels a hand on her shoulder. Yamaguchi.
“I’ll drive.”
“But-”
“No buts,” he says as he drags her to his car.
“What about Tsukki?”
“I’ll go pick him up when the wedding is over.” He speaks firmly.
-
They drive to the park beside Yachis dorm, as he stops the car in the driveway.
“So?” He speaks.
She leans her head back against the seat as sets the drink down, her words beginning to slur.
“I’m in love with Kiyoko.”
He looks at her before leaning his head back, looking ahead.
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
