Chapter Text

When Patton finally arrived back home he was immediately ambushed by his worried brothers. He assured them that he was okay and told them what happened. The questions, the process of the coloration and in the end, what happened when he got out of the car: Patton thanked Janus for the experience and for understanding, and he thanked him in return for the answers.

The only thing Patton didn’t tell her brothers was what happened next. He knew they wouldn’t understand. Patton took out his hand and he shook hands with Janus. He figured it was the least he could do considering they weren’t going to stay in touch. Janus was mightily surprised but he was thankful.

. . .
Patton was in the waiting room again. He was waiting for Emile to return with the decision of “what’s next”. Now that he was in the same seat in the same room a few days later, Patton realized how much he’d grown, how much stronger he had become. Something moved in the corner of her eye. When he looked all he could see were a pair of dark blue eyes. He recognized them with a smile.

“Hugo? How are you?”
“I’m good.” he answered, happy to be recognized, “turns out I’m a spirit. I watch over people.”
“Oh fun.” he smiled and showed him his hands. Hugo looked with interest. Then he looked at her quizzically. He took note of his stance and newly found confidence.

“You’re different. Something happened to you.” he decided.
“Yea,” Patton agreed, “something big.”
