A Million Ways to Say No (Agere Janus Oneshots)

Chapter 7: No Leaving

Summary:

Sequel to No Medicine!

Chapter Text

Virgil groaned as a wave of pain in his head washed over him. He moved his hand up to cover his eyes from the overhead lighting that had switched on. He had been blissfully suffering in the dark, and whoever had disrupted that was going to pay.

“Hi Hi Veevee.” A little voice spoke up. Virgil immediately took back his thoughts as he turned over and bleerily saw a human figure bundled up in a yellow jumper.

“Hi kid.” Virgil said hoarsely, and that’s when he realized why he felt like utter crap.

Janus must have gotten him sick.

“Ew, you sound gross.” Janus said, sticking his tongue out, before attempting to climb into the bed. Virgil groaned as he was pushed and shoved to the other side of the bed, the sudden movement not helping his headache.

“It’s your fault.” Virgil said dryly, allowing Janus into his bed, though not cuddling up with him. Honestly, he probably shouldn’t have even allowed him in the bed. He didn’t really want to risk Janus getting sick again, but he also didn’t want to have to listen to him whine about not being allowed in his bed.

“Nuh uh!” Janus argued, shaking the whole bed as he whipped his head in a no motion. Virgil hadn’t thought it possible that he could feel motion sickness in his own bed, but here he was, being proven wrong.

“Janus, I’m sick. Can we please knock down the brattiness by like a fraction?” Virgil asked, maybe a hint of actual frustration peeking through. He didn’t mean for it to come through, he didn’t want Janus to actually be hurt or upset. But he really didn’t feel good. Where were any of his other caregivers?

“Vee sick?” Janus asked, and Virgil immediately felt guilty for worrying the baby. It wasn’t actually the other’s fault, and he shouldn’t have said that. He didn’t want Janus to accidentally internalize it and thing it was actually his fault, rather than just an accident.

“Hey, it’s okay. Yea, I am. But just a little bit.” He said, his head too cloudy to be sure if what he was saying was comforting or not. Janus seemed to process the information, before he began to scoot out of the bed. Virgil tried not to feel too relieved.

“Thank you, you gonna go find someone else to watch ya?” Virgil asked, rolling back into his nice warm spot from earlier. He turned his head to watch Janus walk towards the door. The little one turned back around, a smile on his face.

“Nope! ‘M gonna take care of you to get better!” Janus said loudly, before hurrying out the door, paying no mind to how hard he slammed it as he hurried off to god knows where. Virgil groaned again, throwing his hand over his eyes once more to try and combat the headache.

‘You asked for this.’ His thoughts unhelpfully reminded him, and truly, he did have no one else to blame but himself for telling Janus he would be his problem if he got sick.

Virgil sighed as yet another toy thermometer was thrusted into his mouth. Janus had truly taken it upon himself to see to it that his caregiver got better. And he was either too sick, or didn’t have the heart to tell him that none of what he was doing was helping and honestly it would probably make things worse.

“Logan sented me with d’ese” Janus said, before holding up a pill bottle full of cold and headache relief. Virgil bit back any response about him not giving those to him the very second that he had walked back into the room carrying a suitcase full of doctor toys and regular toys and whatever else his little baby brain had told him he would need in order to take care of him. Instead, he gently took the bottle out of Janus’s hand before it managed to get misplaced in the sea of playthings.

“Thank you bud.” Virgil said, before twisting open the lid and taking a couple. He didn’t have to worry about his little one getting curious and wanting to try and open the bottle himself. For one, he wasn’t actually a child. His adult brain would probably kick in as soon as he found himself in actual danger. And two, he was pretty sure even a fully adult Janus would struggle with the child safety mechanism.

“Vee feelin’ better?” Janus asked, tucking into the other’s arms one of his stuffies. Virgil took the toy and hugged it tightly. Just because he was the adult in the situation didn’t mean he didn’t want comfort. He was still sick after all.

“Bit better.” It wasn’t really the truth, and honestly, Virgil should have known better than try to lie to the liar. But either Janus didn’t pick up on it, or he was ignoring it. Instead, he nodded and began cleaning off the bed of his toys.

“Hey, ‘m sorry. Where ya going?” Virgil asked, slurring as his body fought off sleep. He was exhausted from being sick, and from having random items shoved in his mouth and eyes. Janus began stuffing his plastic thermometer and other doctor utensils into his suitcase once more.

“Best medicine is sleep I think.” Janus said, and he didn’t sound all that little anymore. Virgil frowned at that. Had the other actually picked up on his little lie? Had it hurt him?

“Hey, no.” Virgil said, scooting in the bed a bit and holding out his arms towards Janus. The regressor looked at his caregiver’s chest longingly, before making eye contact.

“You’re sick.” Janus protested, looking like he was barely fighting off his smaller self. Virgil nodded.

“I am. And do you know what the real best medicine is?” He asked, gesturing for Janus to get closer. He inched towards the bed, waiting for Virgil to answer. The purple side smirked before he leaned forward, grabbing his baby and pulling him into the bed and into a hug.

“Snake cuddles!” He said, before he began to gently tickle Janus. The little one screeched in utter delight as Virgil used the last bit of his energy to play with him. After their little tickle session though, they settled into bed together, cuddling Janus close. It would probably start a perpetual cycle of endlessly getting one another sick, but Virgil didn’t think he would mind too much.
