Work Text:
Hawks flew over the city towards his apartment, so many plans running through his mind. The phone call with Soji from earlier that morning was playing through his mind, and he was looking forward to that evening. More than just spending time with Dabi and Jin. Soji was planning to take Azumi out for the night. Dinner, dancing, a theater show. The last week had been stressful, with the Takami's getting released on parole, and Azumi's headaches returning. Soji wanted to give Azumi a relaxing night to do all the things he knew she loved to do. This meant Mila needed a babysitter. Sion was unavailable for that weekend, visiting her son in Hosu. Keigo jumped at the question and agreed to watch Mila overnight at his apartment.
Once Jin had been told, Dabi suddenly returned from working for Giran and also said he would enjoy spending time with Mila. Keigo had to clean the apartment, send a list to Jin because he was still out and they would need some things for a little girl like applesauce and pancake mix for the next morning. The balcony doors were open when Keigo landed and shook his wings out before stepping inside. His hero costume was changed to jeans and a black and red halter top before he began to pick up trash, put away books and video game controllers and wash spare bedsheets. He went to the kitchen and loaded the dishwasher, wiping down the counters as he went through the cabinets and fridge, writing up a list which he sent to Jin.
Around 3pm Dabi showed up with a small brown paper bag, looking around the aired out cleaned up apartment. "Nice. So what time is she getting here and when are they picking her up?" Keigo smiled at Dabi and came up to hug him from behind, wings also curling around Dabi as he smiled and rested his chin on the fire user's shoulder. Keigo loved hugging his boyfriend because he was always so warm. "Mom and Dad are coming by with Mila at 5pm. Dad said they would be out all night and we can take her back to their place around noon." Dabi leaned his head into Keigo's as he made a hm noise.
"Where is she going to sleep?" Keigo used the tip of his left wing to point towards his own room. "She doesn't do well alone at night so I was going to make a nest. Sorry if that makes the bed crowded." Dabi grinned and turned a bit to rest his hand on the blonde's bare back. "I doubt she will hog the bed as much as you and your wings, pretty bird." Keigo laughed and let go so he could get the sheets out of the stacked washer dryer in the closet and go make his bed. Dabi took the small brown bag to the kitchen and tucked it back into fridge to keep it hidden and cold.
By the time Jin came home around 4pm, Keigo and Dabi had the apartment cleaned up, a small nest of bedding and feathers all over Keigo's bed, and they were picking through the streaming services for movie ideas. Food was put away, small snacks, fruit cups, juice boxes and even ingredients to make pan noodles for dinner. Jin flopped onto the armchair so Keigo and Dabi could stay cuddled on the couch. "What do we do if we get called in tonight, Kei? You are going up in rank and if it'th a rethcue operation they would call you in." Keigo frowned as Dabi rubbed his boyfriend's arm. "I'll be here all night, but I doubt anything that serious would come up."
As the three young men began talking about the agency and the city, a gentle knock on the door let them know that time had flown and it was a bit after 5pm. Keigo hopped up to get the door, opting to bit wear socks so his bird-like feet, and his talons had just been groomed two days ago, so they clacked softly on the tile around the door when he opened it. Mila was standing in front of Azumi and Soji, wearing blue capris with sandals and a blue shirt that had clip on sleeves to make it easier for her wings to come through the slits in the back. She had a pink chibi Sailer Moon backpack and was hugging a large cloud pillow.
It had been some time since Keigo saw his mother in formal wear, and he almost forgot how beautiful she was when she dressed up. She had her hair down, curled with strands of fine silver chains and pearls floating in her multi shaded blue hair. She was wearing a form fitted black evening dress that had a single gem studded strap on the right side. It billowed out gently into an hombre mix of black and white at the bottom, a rhinestone star was embroidered onto the left waist. Her jewelry was fine silver to match the rhinestones, and she held a black clutch purse in one hand while Mila clung to her other hand. Soji was wearing a black and white suit with a lace black wrap over one arm, obviously holding it for Azumi.
"Hey there little bird! Ready to spend the night with us?" Keigo smiled as he crouched down and offered a hand to Mila. Jin got up to wave, whistling when he saw Azumi's dress and Dabi just stared dumbstruck. He'd never seen either in formal wear, and his eyes practically burned when he saw Soji's arm gently go around Azumi. "Sorry we can't stay, the show starts soon. Do you boys need anything before we go? Any questions?" Azumi gave Mila a kiss on the forehead before the five year old jumped forward into Keigo's arms whistling, her black tipped blue wings flapping excitedly. "Nah, we got it Unclw Thoji." Jin grinned as Keigo stood up with Mila in his arms.
"You guys have fun and we'll see you tomorrow." Keigo grinned as the adults gave them a final wave and headed out. Once the door was shut and Mila was shown the nest where she would be sleeping, she carefully put her backpack on the floor and stuffed cloud plushie on the bed. Then, she ran out into the living room and jumped into Dabi's lap chirping. "Hi Nii sama!" He pretended that he had been crushed, but wrapped her up in a hug as she giggled and looked at Jin and Keigo. She had been told she was spending the night with her brother at his apartment, Mila didn't realize both her Nii san and Nii sama would be there too. "Can we play outside, Nii chan?" She seemed to make herself comfortable in Dabi's arms as she looked to Jin.
Dabi got a really good look at her. She was going to be six soon, and her bird features were becoming more prominent than he had noticed before. Her bright blue eyes still had rounded black eyeliner marks with white on the eyelids making them look like blue jay eyes. Her hair was white, cut short with little ribbons clipped into it. A black choker around her neck with a silver embroidered feather design. With her blue outfit, it was off from the same shade of blue her wings were. Each feather tipped black with patterns of white and blue in them. Mila looked like a beautiful blend of blue bird and little girl. Like Keigo, she loved the warmth of Dabi when she was hugged by him, but squirmed when she thought about going outside.
"There'th a playground in the park behind the building. We could go there for a little bit." Jin commented as he looked at Keigo. The blonde nodded and glanced towards his ankle boots. "That could work. It's private for resident use only so we wouldn't have to worry about too many people." Mila grinned and hopped up off Dabi's lap, grabbing his hand. "Are you coming too?" There was a moment of hesitation before Dabi grinned. Mila wanted to spend time with him, not run from his scars. He stood and let her grab his hand, dragging him towards the doorway. Despite the fact that almost everyone could fly, that would attract attention to the neighbors, so walking and taking the elevator was the plan.
The park behind Keigo and Jin's apartment was much nicer than the plain field behind Mila's apartment building. It had talking paths with flowers and trees in beautiful designs. A large wood chip area had a large play tower with slides and bars from it. There were only three other children playing, one woman sitting on the benches watching as the three young men escorted the little girl to play. Mila had hopped ahead of them all whistling as she ran to the ladder so she could climb up into the plastic tower to the tall slide. Her wings flared out and puffed up as she giggled. Jin hurried to the bottom to meet her at it grinning, the evening waking him up more than he had been all day.
Keigo and Dabi strolled leisurely to one of the edges to watch, Keigo grinning as Mila chirped at all the playground space. He knew from experience that she was going to run around and play for a bit before calming down. Most children wanted to enjoy outdoor activities, plus Keigo could reign in Mila if she tried to fly around. The other children on the playground pointed at him and Jin, one seemed curious about Dabi, but once they realized there was a new playmate, Mila had their attention. They took turns saying hi, admiring Mila's wings, and then inviting her to swing, climb the jungle gym or run around the play tower.
Dabi took turns with Jin pushing her on the swings as Keigo ran around with her, using his own large wings to try and hide from her with no success. He stood out and the kids on the playground recognized Hawks easily. Enjoying playtime with a pro hero and his little sister late into the afternoon until all the children had to go in. When it was just Mila on the playground, Dabi started showing her a few moves to help if she was grabbed by a "bad guy", like biting their hand or kicking their shins. Jin checked his phone before pointing out they needed to make dinner. Mila chirped her agreement and grabbed Keigo's hand to walk back inside. The lights along the walking trails made the flowers change colors in the growing dark.
When they got back into the apartment, Jin made pan noodles ro order for everyone. It was something his grandmother, Sion, had taught him to make before he moved out. Adding meats and vegetables to order, the island counter with stools was set like a dinner table and full of bowls of seasoning, sauce, meats, veggies and noodles. While Dabi tied off the end of chopsticks for Mila to use them easier, Keigo managed to find a plastic fork in case she couldn't get it. The little winged girl seemed determined to eat like her big brothers. There were quite a few spills and messes, but the laughing of everyone made the mistakes seem just fine. By the time Mila declared she was full, she had gotten the hang of using chopsticks to eat noodles and looked proud of herself.
They cleaned up dinner as a group, Mila carrying dishes over to the sink while Keigo rinsed and loaded the dishwasher, Jin putting fixings and food away and Dabi wiped down the counters. Dinner was followed by the game Candyland, a version designed for children ages 4-6. Mila had a blast playing with all three of them, giggling and keeping her wings tucked to her back. After the game, Keigo told her she needed to get a bath and change into pajamas. While he set up a bubble bath, a small bottle of bubble suds picked up by Jin, the bat quirked sidekick headed up to the loft to do a quick workout before his own shower and the planned movie.
By the time Mila had gotten cleaned, played with soap suds and changed into pajamas, she was running around the house chirping as Keigo chased her with a hair brush. He wanted to show his parents he could take care of his little sister on his own. Having two other people to hell didn't really matter, at least in his mind. Mila got into the living room where Davi had walked from the kitchen holding a small cardboard 4pk of flavored yogurt drinks. "Hey, little bit. Come here." Keigo and the hair brush were forgotten as she tiptoed to Dabi. He held up the drinks so she could pick one and smirked when she plucked out the strawberry drink and small straw. Dabi made her sit on the center table in the living room, sipping the drink as he took the brush from Keigo.
"I didn't know you bought Flavayogas. I didn't think about that, and when did you learn about taking care of kids?" Keigo admitted as Dabi easily brushed her short white hair as if he did it all day. "I had siblings, remember?" Turquoise eyes were on Keigo's golden ones before offering the hair brush back now that she was all set for bed. Jin came in after his own shower and excitedly picked a yogurt drink, grinning at Mila as he agreed strawberry was the best. Keigo left to change into pajama pants and a black sleeveless top with slits in the back. Jin was left to help Mila pick a movie as Dabi shut the bedroom behind him, eyes roaming over Keigo before changing into black sweatpants himself.
"We could leave the two kiddies to watch a movie and have some alone time, pretty bird." He grinned as he saw Keigo try very hard not to get lost in his beautiful blue eyes. "I would be down for that if I actually trusted Jin's opinion in movies. He'd probably try to get her to watch Star Wars and we'll have nightmares about Darth Vader at 2am." Keigo lamented as he walked over to rest his hands on Dabi's shoulders. The taller man leaned down and gently captured Keigo's lips with his own, hands resting on the blonde's hips as he poked his pierced tongue between those soft lips. Keigo moaned, opening his mouth to let him in before a knock on the door interrupted them.
"Nii chan! Nii san! We're gonna watch Ponyo!" They held each other as Dabi snickered and Keigo eyed the door as if it had offended him. "Be right out little bird!" Dabi let go and kept hold of one of Keigo's hands. "Come on, Keigo. We don't want to miss Ponyo do we?" The blonde narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend while being led out of the bedroom to the living room. Jin was making popcorn and Mila was jumping on the couch, wings flapping quickly when she saw them both. "Movie!" Keigo scooped her up out of the air and swung her around earning a chirp and whistle. When Jin came back with two large bowls of popcorn in his own pajamas, they dimmed the lights and everyone settled on the curved sofa with Mila huddled in the middle for the best view of the screen, eyes wide as the movie started.
//////////////////////
Mila fell asleep halfway through the movie. Keigo had been on the far end of the sofa because he wanted to stretch his wings out over the armrest. Dabi was leaning on him with Mia next to Dabi and Jin on her other side. The three boys seemed to take turns peeking at the little girl for her reaction and noticed her eyes droop, her thumb go into her mouth and eventually she curled up against Jin with her wings wrapped around herself like a blanket.
With the movie done, Keigo carefully picked her up and crooned softly to keep her asleep as Dabi headed to the bedroom to warm up the bed for her using his quirk. Jin was cleaning up the popcorn and setting up a more adult movie as Keigo tucked his sister into the large nest like bed. Dabi had warmed up his hands and ran them over the blankets, pillows and feathers, grinning when Mila coo'd around her thumb to burrow into the warm bed. Keigo smirked and stepped out of the room, the door opened a crack. "What would I do without you, hot stuff?" Dabi wrapped a warm arm around his waist as they walked to the living room. "Probably still be chasing her around to brush her hair."
Jin laughed and sprawled on the armchair with a small pint of ice cream now. He had the newest action film on demand ready on screen for them to watch and let the two get comfortable cuddled on the sofa before he unpaused the movie. "Thould I keep the volume down tho we don't wake up the chickie?" He asked as Keigo wrapped his wings around Dabi. "Nah, I have some feathers on the bed. If she even makes a noise, I'll know." Jin nodded and relaxed back. They enjoyed the movie, and immediately selected the next recommended one because everyone was comfortable and didn't want to get up.
Halfway through the second movie, Dabi was starting to nod off leaning on Keigo when Keigo's wings twitched suddenly. Keigo had been drifting off as well, now wide awake and looking towards the hallway to the bedroom. "Pretty bird?" Dabi asked as Jin continued to snore in the armchair where he fell asleep. Keigo was about to respond when they both heard a scared chirp and Keigo's wings twitched again. The older young man sat up letting the winged hero up to walk to his own room, speaking softly as he disappeared into the bedroom. Looking down at the passed out teenager in the armchair, Dabi smirked and tossed a small blanket over him. The TV was turned off, the lights too and he locked up before heading after Keigo. He was pretty sure if Mila had woken up, that they were going to be going to sleep in an effort to help her get back to sleep. And he was partially right.
Keigo was sitting on the bed with Mila in his lap. She was clinging to him and crying, her wings tightly on her back and shaking. Brow furrowed, Dabi closed the bedroom door behind himself as he walked over to the both. Keigo was making a calming trill as he rocked her gently and nodded towards Dabi. "See? Dabi is here too. No one is going to get you while we're here. I promise." Crouching down, Dabi rested a hand on Mila's back and saw her peek out at him from where she was hiding in Keigo's arms. "What's all this about, little bit? You scared of something?" Mila nodded as Keigo spoke. "She was crying that she didn't want to be taken away." Dabi frowned as he watched her shake in Keigo's arms as her brother spoke to her gently. "What makes you think someone would take you away from me and mom and dad?"
Mila looked up at Keigo as he used his shirt to wipe at her eyes which were leaking tears. "I-I overheard mommy and daddy talking about it. People would take me away because of my wings." Dabi and Keigo looked at each other before Dabi moved to sit next to Keigo. The blonde tried to shift Mila so she was sitting cradled in his arms instead of clinging to him. "No one is going to take you away, sis. Mom and dad would fight anyone who even tried. We won't let bad people even try and hurt you because we love you so much. Besides, you have big brothers like me and Dabi and Jin and we would even fight Endeavor for you, right Dabi?"
Dabi gave Keigo a look but nodded his agreement until he heard Mila chirp. "He's a scary hero." A wide grin spread across his face as he rested a hand on her head. "Yes, yes he is, little bit." Keigo shook his head and moved to try and lay her down again on the bed. She whined trying to fight it until she saw Dabi crawling into bed on the other side. Once they were all in bed, Mila in the middle, she stuck her thumb back in her mouth and hugged her cloud plushie as Keigo draped a wing gently over both her and Dabi. The fire user warming himself up like a heater for them both as he looked at Mila who was facing him. He reached out to gently play with her hair, a happy chirp around her thumb caused him to smirk before closing his own eyes.

The bright sunshine reminded Dabi that Jeigo kept his curtains open, and now it was glaring into his face so bright that he had to roll over and bury his face into Keigo's wings. A soft chirp was the reply from the tired blonde as Dabi cracked his eyes open, admiring the ruby and crimson red feathers. It was shortly after that he realized Mila wasn't in the bed-turned-nest with himself and Keigo. The mild panic only lasted a moment until he heard Jin and Mila giggling in the kitchen, Keigo grumbling about it being too early as he rolled over, reaching for his warm boyfriend. Dabi kissed the space between Keigo's feathery eyebrows and hairline, running a hand through his hair before he slipped out to see what was going on in the kitchen.
Jin was great at cooking noodles and dinner dishes, not so much at making waffles. Mila had batter on her face and in her wings as she was trying to mix up a new batch in a second bowl, since Jin had under or over cooked the first batch. He had his glasses on the tip of his nose as his dark eyes stared at the waffle maker waiting for the light. "What the heck is going on here?" Dabi grumbled as he went straight for the coffee pot. Mila giggled and showed Jin the mixed batter, which he approved as he tried to clean the scoop to try again. "We're making waffleth for breakfatht. Duh." Mila chirped in agreement as Dabi took a washcloth and started wiping the batter off her face.
"Well try making them instead of wearing them. You're a mess, little bit." Dabi tossed the dirty wet cloth into the sink before going back to making two cups of coffee. Mila watched with intense concentration as Jin measured and poured more attempts at waffles while Dabi took a cup of coffee to Keigo in bed. Breakfast became waffles, coffee and fruit because Keigo insisted Mila needed a healthy option to go with the waffles. After breakfast, the three got everything cleaned up while Mila got on a short sleeve green shirt with ruffles on the sleeves and a pair of jean overalls. Once she was dressed, she ran around the apartment whistling and chirping with excitement because Keigo told her he was going to fly her home soon.
Trying to calm the energy of the winged 5 year old, Jin turned on the Nintendo Switch and showed her how to use the controller and where to stand, quickly getting a game of Mario Kart going. Dabi and Keigo laughed as Mila leaned back and forth to turn the steering wheel of her car, mimicking the noises from the game as her wings fluttered when she crashed or got attacked by other drivers. By the time it was noon and Keigo had his hero costume on, Mila was whining about wanting to stay and play some more.
Jin gave her a big hug, Mila trilling happily because she had had a ton of fun staying overnight with her brothers. "Bye bye Nii san. Thank you for the games." Once Jin was done his goodbyes, Dabi rested a hand on her head, Mila clinging to his arm as she chirped and beamed up at him. "Bye Nii sama! I'll miss you!" He smirked at her energy as she flapped her wings and ran to Keigo who scooped her up and slid his glasses on. He offered her a set of his spare glasses and she giggled, sliding them on before holding the strap of her backpack as Keigo winked at Dabi.
"See you later, hot stuff." Stepping onto the balcony, he took off towards home to take his sister home as Davi watched them go, standing next to Jin. He was silent before heading to the bedroom to get his coat and overnight bag. When he came out to the living room, Jin held up a small envelope for him. "What's that for?" Jin grinned and shrugged. "Kei'th patrol thchedule. Figured you would want to know when he wath working." Dabi smirked and stuffed the envelope in his jacket pocket before heading out."see ya bat boy." Jin cackled as he looked around the empty apartment. Everything had been cleaned up, everyone was gone, time for him to get some daytime naps in.
The children's snacks, board games and bathtime bubbles were stored for the next time they inevitably got to babysit Mila. In Jin's opinion, they managed it pretty well.
