Chapter Text
Atsumu and Sakusa were finally married the following spring on the omega’s nineteenth birthday. It was a year late, but hey, better late than never.
Osamu acted as Atsumu’s best man and Komori as Sakusa’s. The omega had been shocked when he’d returned from the mission in Shiratorizawa, only to find out he’d missed everything.
Sakusa had to calm him down by promising that he wouldn’t get married without him.
At six months old, Rai was still far too young to act as flower boy. But they found a work around, with the baby gripping the flower petals and giggling while Suna carried him down the aisle.
It was one of the happiest days of Atsumu’s life, as he was finally able to officially claim Sakusa – now Miya Kiyoomi – as his mate.
Later on, the two finally got some alone time. Atsumu took Kiyoomi out to the training field where they’d spent so much time growing up, and where he’d set up a nice picnic for them (thanks Ginjima).
As the two ate and laughed, basking in each other’s company. Atsumu gazed up at the beautiful, clear blue sky. Before making a not so pleasant gesture at it.
“Atsumu, what on earth are you doing?”
“Saying my ‘screw yous’ to the universe Omi-kun. Please let me concentrate.”
Kiyoomi rolled his eyes, far too used to his mate’s ridiculousness to make any more comments.
Atsumu rested his shoulder on his husband’s chest and Kiyoomi ran his fingers through his still dyed hair.
(“Are you really going to keep it like that?”
“Yeah! It looks good and distinguishes me from Samu. And I know ya secretly love it.”
“No.”
“Don’t lie.”)
As the couple sat there, basking in the afternoon sun, Atsumu thought there may be happy endings after all.
Eleven months later saw the newest arrivals to the Miya family.
And no, they weren’t Atsumu’s.
“How?” He demanded when Suna and Osamu had shown up to inform him of the news. Suna caressing his barely noticeable bump.
Osamu looked sheepish. Ya know I told ya I thought Rin wasn’t a bearer?”
“Right, cause ya said he didn’t have heats.”
“Well…turns out he was just really late presenting. And well, I couldn’t help myself ya know?”
Atsumu certainly did not want to know. But congratulated the two regardless.
Cue Suna threatening to castrate his mate as he delivered twins. Fraternal, unlike their father. One girl and one boy. Both omegas.
As he and Sakusa held them, Atsumu was even more grateful that they’d broken the curse. He couldn’t imagine watching his niece and nephew struggle through the same pain he and Osamu had.
Suna and Osamu got married shortly after the twins were born. Suna’s father attending, smiling with more warmth than he’d felt in years.
And then finally, nearly two years later, Atsumu delivered their first born and heir.
A tiny alpha girl who they named Ahmya. Her black curls and eyes coming straight from her omega father’s side.
Hinata and Tobio kept their promise to come and visit them. Hinata fawning over Ahmya as if she’d hung the stars in the sky. While Tobio respectfully stayed two meters behind him, worried that his face would make the toddler cry.
Atsumu teased him while Kiyoomi worriedly instructed Hinata on how to properly hold the child.
About a month after Ahmya was born, Atsumu and Osamu found themselves once again in the cavern. It’d been a long while since they’d been down here. But they’d finally found time to clean it up.
Atsumu picked up dusty books and old pieces of paper. His younger self’s frantic scrawl splayed all over them.
“Tsumu.”
He turned to his brother, finding him lying in his old bed, a sight once so familiar but now so strange.
Osamu stated at him, earnestness in his eyes.
“Rin and I’ve been talking lately. We’ve decided that once the twins are old enough, we want ta take a trip around the country.”
“Really? Why?”
Osamu sighed, “Yer the king, Tsumu. Ya’ve got yer duties and know exactly what yer purpose is. But fer me, I don’t feel like I’ve done enough ta help yet. So I’m gonna go around the country and check on our people. I wanna make sure they have proper support in dealing with bandits and other types of threats. I wanna make sure that yer new rules are being implemented properly.”
Atsumu understood, but it didn’t stop the sinking feeling in his gut that his brother was leaving.
Osamu, ever too good at reading him, said, “It won’t be forever Tsumu, but we’ll probably be gone fer a few years. I’ll make sure ta send ya letters ta keep in touch. But…this is something I wanna do. Fer myself and fer our people. And I want my family ta understand the importance too.”
A part of Atsumu wanted to get angry. A part of him wanted to cry. But the wiser part reminded him that they wouldn’t be gone forever. There wasn’t any set date on their lives.
Osamu hugged him tightly.
“Don’t worry too much about it,” he said. “That’s still years away. So let’s clean this mess up and meet Kiyoomi and Rin fer lunch. I’m starving.”
Atsumu rolled his eyes but helped his twin in cleaning up.
By the time they were finished, Atsumu found himself looking at the rocky walls that were leaking. The small wooden bed that now had only one blanket, as Osamu had confiscated the rest for his family. At the old desk, now devoid of any books or papers, which no longer managed to remain upright.
“Tsumu,” Osamu prompted. “Ready?”
Atsumu breathed deeply, preparing to leave this place behind for good.
There was no need for it anymore.
No need for it to contain their secrets.
He turned back to his twin, a fire burning in his eyes. “Yeah, let’s leave.”
And neither looked back.
