Chapter Text
Training with Gojo Satoru is without a doubt, exhausting.
Its not because he was a merciless teacher who would work you to your bones (although you wishes he would be that instead of the reality) but because he loves to -a lack of better word- chat.
In the first few days it was fine, he asked the important things such as how old are you, who are you staying with, what is the story of your family and how have you been doing since he last saw you.
But then, as the weeks progress, Gojo Satoru had ventured into more.. personal questions.
The first hour was fine, the whole day was annoying, but the whole month was just pure torture.
Growing up, you were taught how to speak only in mannered way and being isolated most of your life you never really had a chance to properly socialize. You are an introverted person wholly and the exact opposite of the white head chatter box currently walking beside you.
Still, you could not afford to be rude and not give him answer when he is doing you a favor of being your mentor so you opt on answering with short and unrealistic things to make him take the hint that you are not one for questions.
“Ne, (Y/N)-chan tell me what is your favorite flower”
“Poison Ivy”
“I doubt that, but what is your favorite meal?”
“Rice”
“Okay rice does not completely falls in that category but what is your favorite animal?”
“Microscopic parasites”
Turns out the Gojo heir is nothing if not, determined.
No amount of bullshit could deter him from annoying you. ‘Love is all about patience’ is what he thought.
Three months in on being your mentor and his friends still has no idea as to where he goes every time he says no to their after class invitations.
“Satoru, let’s go investigate that small curse spirit near that one bakery you like”
“No sorry guys, I have a head ache.”
“Satoru, Getou and I heard there’s a sale on the mall today, let’s go”
“Nah, I’ll pass today. I don’t feel like going out”
“Hey Satoru, there’s a new bakery that just opened downtown, wanna check it out”
“Thanks guys, but I don’t feel like eating sweets”
Okay the last one is just plain ridiculous but Satoru is running out of ideas on how to decline his friends.
He knows Ieri and Getou aren’t stupid and they’re starting to suspect that something’s up but Satoru has been asked personally by the Inari family head – your grandfather (his future grandfather in law) and the principal to keep this confidential. Also a small part of him wants to keep you to himself and to also try to get on your grandfather’s good side.
So he will keep you as his secret, for now.
Which is kinda exciting if you ask him.
“Feel more of your curse energy inside, yeah that’s it. Don’t try to overthink things and just let it flow”
He observe how your closed eyes are shut in concentration and how your nose scrunch up cutely. He’s so glad he’s the mentor because if it’s the other way around he doesn’t know if he could even focus with that cute face of yours as a distraction.
“Okay now hold it, hold it. Good” your eyes are still clothes and Satoru observe how long and pretty your lashes are. Being so still while concentrating on your curse energy, you really do look like a doll.
“Now release it slowly” you did what you were told and Satoru praised you by clapping dramatically. You were learning fast after all. You are becoming his favorite student. But Satoru knows you’ll be his favorite on anything anyway.
You sighed and slowly opened your eyes.
“You weren’t kidding when you said you were a fast learner!” he grinned and offered you a candy, a reward he always gives after a job well done.
You took it and wordlessly plop it into your mouth. Having a sweet tooth is inevitable if you’re with the Gojo heir every day.
“How was I?” you asked and his grin widened.
“You were a perfect student, always doing things perfectly as I want. I think it’ll only take us a year tops for you to fully control your curse energy.” He said with a proud tone. “I’m surprised you could do consecutive trainings actually and without breaking a sweat at that. Most sorcerers will be on their knees right now begging to stop.” His grin then turned into a knowing smirk. “it’s almost as if your energy is limitless”
You froze for a millisecond before you could stop yourself and it did not go unnoticed by the white head.
You tried to play it off by shrugging your shoulders casually “I told you Satoru-kun, it’s a speculation by the elders and my family, though its just that- speculations.”
His smirk immediately widened “Sure, (Y/N)-chan”
“I’m home”
“Welcome back, how was the training?” your grandfather asked while sipping a tea.
You immediately sat in front of him and pour yourself a cup. “It was fine, same thing as always. I’m starting to have a better grasp on my energy and Satoru-kun said it’ll only take maybe a year before I can fully control it.”
Your grandfather hummed. “Asking that Gojo boy to train you is a wise choice. He is the only one capable training you since no one could really control your curse energy, not even yourself.”
You mentally eye rolled.
“I know you’re mentally making face but it’s the truth you brat” he said with a teasing grin.
Your grandfather may be hard on you but he still loves you endlessly. No one would even imagine the rumored ruthless demon of Inari clan would be so soft on his only grandchild.
Upon seeing his grin, you immediately turned 180 degrees. “But grandpaaaa.. you know how hard it is. It’s not like you could even control it as well”
Gone is the lady with manners two seconds ago and here lies the infamous ‘Inari brat’ – as what your nannies kindly dubbed you.
Your grandfather immediately broke into a fit of laughter upon seeing your pout.
“Don’t laugh grandpa, is my suffering really that entertaining?” and like a petulant child you immediately crossed your arm and pouted even harder.
His laugh eventually died down to a grin “I’m sorry, it’s just it’s not everyday I hear you complaining about a task being hard”
You blew out an air and down your tea.
The Inari head then cleared his throat and became serious.
“The Zenin clan called again”
You immediately groaned.
“Grandpa how many times do I have to tell you, I’m too young—“
“I know you are, and I won’t ever let you get married at this age. But as a clan head, I know that we cannot let our bloodline die with your generation. It wouldn’t hurt to look into the suitors Haru gave you before, also Zenin is one of the big three clans and Naobito’s son is a powerful sorcerer”
You let out a sighed and your grandfather softened.
“I know it’s hard for you and as much as possible I really want you to be with someone you love, but I also want you to be with someone powerful. I will not forgive myself if something happened to you and the man you married was useless on protecting you” He immediately took your hands. “Besides, a strong woman such as yourself requires only the best”
You immediately smiled. No matter how much your grandfather annoys you by talking about the clan responsibilities and trying to teach you the ways of being the next head, you know he only wants what is best for you.
Besides, you are his only living family.
You sighed in resignation.
“Fine, I’ll look into it but don’t mention it again please. I’ve already got too much on my plate with training.”
Your grandfather immediately smiled. “of course, of course. Now go and change clothes, dinner will be ready soon”
You immediately left the room and did what your grandfather told you.
Being in your confined space, you mentally played back the events of today.
The training wasn’t hard nor did it really left you particularly exhausted but it’s the mental torture of when are you going to fully control your energy.
The paranoia of always thinking you might release far too much and hurt someone in the process terrifies you.
You never asked to be born with these gifts, never asked to see the future nor see everything but knowing that if ever something happened to you or to your love ones and knowing you would be able to protect them gives you a sense of peace.
Protect them how you were not able to before.
Now you just need to get Gojo Satoru off your back.
