Chapter Text
It was six months of hectic wedding planning between Five-O cases. There was so much to do!!! Thank Goodness for the self-appointed wedding planners, Grace and Kono (who by the way went bat-shit crazy in her excited reaction to the news and won the pot of bets on when McDanno would tie the knot - $2,500). They took charge of all the arrangements. They made the guest list for the boys to revise and authorize and gathered a handful of invitation card designs from which Danny and Steve chose the one they wanted. Kono created the address labels. Grace (with additional help from Charlie, Mary, and Joanie) put them on the invitations and sent them out. Grace and Kono chose and ordered the flowers and ribbons for decorating the rows of seats at the wedding as well as the boutonnieres for the grooms. Kamekona officiated the wedding, provided the food for the reception, and served as Master of Ceremonies. Grace talked Nahele into D.J.’ing the reception.
Steve and Danny got the fun duties of cake tasting and ordering and preparing the reception music playlist. Of course, Danny caved to Steve’s Puppy Dog Eyes so the wedding cake that they ordered was death by chocolate (made with sugar, not salt) with off-white and blue buttercream frosting. The decorative theme of the cake was a combination of law enforcement and Naval symbols including frosting hand grenades, handguns, handcuffs, anchors, and tridents with a light swirl of ocean waves. For the finishing touch, they provided the baker with a photo of themselves in kevlar vests and commissioned a cake top to be created in their image. It was going to be a one-of-a-kind wedding cake!
Danny took control of the playlist and made it easy on Nahele. He posted the playlist on his Spotify account to last for the first hour or so. Then, Nahale would play and mix his own choice of music for the rest of the reception. Grace, Kono, and Charlie listened to Danny’s playlist. Grace rolled her eyes and shook her head at Danno’s choices. Of course, it was comprised of Bon Jovi’s and Bruce Springsteen’s greatest hits. He was still such a Jersey Boy at heart when it came to his musical tastes. They laughed, knowing the only song choice made by Steve.
Steve gifted Danny’s side of the family with tickets to Honolulu and hotel accommodations. He knew what a financial challenge it was to fly during the holiday season.
The girls bought a white runner to create an aisle for Steve and Danny and the wedding party to walk down and a beautiful arch to stand at for their wedding vows. They nearly cleaned out the Christmas lights aisle at the local hardware store.
Before everyone knew it, Steve and Danny were making final arrangements. They discussed what they wanted Kamekona to say during the ceremony. Kamekona gave them some feedback and made additions to his officiating speech. Lastly, Steve and Danny each wrote their own wedding vows.
The day before the wedding, the boys sent the kids home to Rachel’s while they wrapped all the Christmas gifts both from them and from Santa. They had a smashing joint bachelor party on the night before Christmas Eve. Cigars, Beer and Tequila shots, a high stakes poker game, and plenty of pupus.

The backyard and Steve’s Beach looked beautiful. It was decorated to look like a winter wonderland. Long lines of white icicles hung high on poles, lining the perimeter of the seats. Flowers and ribbon bows lined the outer rows for additional accents. There were also strings of lights lining both sides of the off-white aisle runner which lit the path to the arch where Kamekona stood. Finally, icicle lights, ribbons, and flowers tastefully decorated the arch. Everyone agreed to a minimal amount of decorations around the arch so it would not look fluffy and feminine, but respectfully accent the handsome men who were about to join in marriage.
When the sun set, the music began. Steve looked handsome in a light gray suit he wore with an open-collared navy blue dress shirt. He escorted Danny’s mom down the aisle to the front row and took his place at the arch. Chin followed as Steve’s best man. Grace and Kono were the best girls. They followed Chin dressed in a spaghetti-strapped light blue knee-length dress. Mary came next followed by Joanie and Charlie walked down the aisle together as flower girl and ring bearer respectively. Finally, Danny and his father walked side by side down the aisle. Eddie gave Danny a gentle pat on the back when Danny led him to the front row and walked over to join Steve and Kamekona at the arch. Kamekona finally began his wedding speech.
Kamekona: "Dear Family and Friends, we are gathered here today to FINALLY witness Steven and Daniel join together in matrimony and officially become the married couple that the whole island has been referring to them as for the last decade."
Kamekona: "Normally when I perform a wedding ceremony, I tell the couple about what a marriage represents, the responsibilities of it, and the vows that you make being a lifetime promise. But with you two, I don’t need to tell you any of this because you already represent what makes a successful marriage. It’s not always easy or perfect, but you know the gift of faring through difficult times together no matter what it takes. Steve and Danny wrote their own vows. Go ahead, Steve."
Steve: "Danny, you came into my life at the perfect time. I didn’t know that then though. That first day we met you took me down a notch and showed me that you wouldn’t take any of my bull. You showed me your strength and your determination to get to the bottom of my father’s murder and your compassion for my loss. Hearing you talk to Grace on the phone for the first time, I saw the kind, supportive father that you are. You showed me that once you loved someone, you were fiercely protective and loyal. You risked your life so many times to rescue me when I was in trouble. You traveled around the world to bring me home. You have my six no matter what my crazy actions are. You shared your family with me and made me a part of it. I started falling for you from the beginning and fell in love more and more each day, each year. You never cease to show me how wonderful you are. I can’t wait to spend forever with you as your husband."
Tears fell down Steve’s cheeks as he squeezed both of Danny’s hands tight.
Danny:" I landed on this “Pineapple-infested Hell Hole” angry, lonely, and sad. I was miserable and grieving for my life back home. Six months later, you came crashing into my life like a Tsunami. That standoff in the garage started what evolved into my love for you. Despite all your craziness, I followed you everywhere because I could not live without you. Under that gruff Commander Steve McGarrett, head of Five-O exterior is a caring, loving, and supportive partner who would do anything for me and for Grace and Charlie. You promised me that we would be sitting together on the beach and growing old together. I can’t wait to officially be your husband because you are my soulmate."
Danny smiled brightly while tears ran down his cheeks and he squeezed Steve’s hands right back.
Chin asked Charlie to give him the rings and then passed them to Kamekona. He presents a ring to Steve.
Kamekona: "Do you Steven James McGarrett take Daniel Andrew Williams as your lawfully wedded husband?”
Steve: "I do." (He slips the ring on Danny’s left ring finger)
Kamekona presents Danny with the other ring.
Kamekona: "And do you Daniel Andrew Williams take Steven James McGarrett as your lawfully wedded husband?"
Danny:" I do. "(He slips the ring on Steve’s left finger)
Kamekona: "By the power vested in me by the state of Hawaii, I now pronounce you husbands for life. You may now kiss each other."
Before they kiss, they take a moment to honor a Hawaiian tradition. Steve reached down and wrapped his hand around the back of Danny’s neck and Danny reached up and wrapped his hand around the back of Steve’s neck gently pressing their foreheads together to share a “Ha,” share a breath of life for the first time together as a married couple. They closed their eyes relishing in the warmth of each other’s forehead and sharing a breath as one.
Then they angled their faces as their lips touched in an open-mouthed kiss that was over a decade in the making.
“We did it, Danno,” Steve whispered.
“Yeah, we did, Babe. We’re finally married.”
Kamekona: Introducing Steve and Danny McGarrett-Williams.
There were sounds of hoots and whistles from Danny’s family. Danny looked out at their guests as they walked back down the aisle. There was his ex-wife sitting in one row and sitting several rows away was her second ex-husband. How did that happen? Rachel, the woman who was his daughter’s mother who cheated on him, lied and kept his son away from him, and broke his heart, was now a friend. Stan, the man who bedded his wife, then married her with the ink on the divorce papers barely dry and took his monkey away, was also a friend. They weren’t his close friends or anything, but they’d made peace with their messy intertwined pasts and got along now. Then, there was Sang Min, the first man they put in prison, who sat next to Odell, Steve’s barber and sometimes a lawyer. What a strangely happy life he was living thanks to his wonderful husband. Danny loved this island now and called it home thanks to Steve. He had an Ohana, too. Oh, how he loved his husband.
The newly remodeled McGarrett-Williams house, lanai, and backyard were quickly turned into a reception banquet and dance floor.
Steve and Danny chose “Please Come Home for Christmas” by Jon Bon Jovi as their song for their first dance together as a married couple. Then there were a collection of Christmas songs to slow and fast dance to. Steve, Danny, Grace, and Charlie shared a family “Happy Dance” to the song, “All the Gifts I Need” by J.D. McPherson. When it came time for the cake cutting, the guests smiled and laughed at the cake theme (law enforcement and Navy symbols), decorations (hand grenades, handguns, handcuffs, anchors, and tridents), and a unique cake top of the married couple wearing Kevlar! Danny smashed a hand grenade in Steve's mouth. Steve smashed a pair of handcuffs in Danny's mouth. The cake was as unique as the couple was! As the medley of Christmas songs ended, a collection of songs from Jersey-born singers, Bon Jovi, Jonathan Bon Jovi as a soloist, and Bruce Springsteen were played. Although the reception playlist was dominated by all of Danny’s favorites, Steve got back at Danny by choosing his favorite, “Sexy Eyes” by Dr. Hook.
Since it was Christmas Eve, the kids went to bed at 9:00 and Grace followed at 10:30. The Newlyweds were kicked out and sent upstairs by 11:00 to enjoy some private time ushering in Christmas while the remainder of the guests and friends wrapped up the party by midnight and had clean up duty until 2:00.
Steve and Danny didn’t have their wedding night with the house to themselves, but they would have their official honeymoon at a bungalow on a private beach after New Year’s to recreate it. They locked their bedroom door and ushered in Christmas by making love leisurely and quietly before being awakened at 6:00 a.m. Christmas morning by an excited Charlie and Joanie.
Little did Danny realize that his “Blue Christmas” last year would become his “Happily Ever After” this year.
“Merry Christmas, Danno.”
“Merry Christmas, Babe.”
