Chapter Text
Tommy stared at his comms in shock. Almost a year, and NOW Tubbo contacted him? No, ‘I hope you're okay’, no ‘im sorry’ no ‘Dreams gone’ just that the exile was lifted. And he wanted Tommy BACK now?
Tommy let out a huff of a laugh, but his wings vibrated and puffed up behind him. He was angry. After all this and Tubbo thought he would just, what? come back?
He growled and shook his head.
Tommy stared up at the sky above him and sighed, thinking.
If he went back, he could always buy or steal what he needed, then head back out here. But no, someone might follow him back. There's also the issue of the fact that no one else knows he has wings. Also the fact that Phils feet don't look like this.
Tommy looked down at his feet and wiggled his talons. Since they had started growing in he needed to sharpen them and angle them like cats do with their claws. His talons were about a inch in length, having a nice curve, and Tommy knew well enough that they were sharp. His feet looked weird too. His foot's bone structure had changed, leaving the talons to come from the tips of his toes, and his feet to be longer, easier to grip or land places.
He also had his teeth to worry about, and his eyes. Tommy had noticed around the same time as his talons, that his teeth were sharpening. His canines were quite fierce now, If Tommy could toot his own horn a bit. His eyes were slits now, allowing him to see farther and focus more.
Tommy sighed and flopped back, laying on his wings a bit.
Unless he found a way to hide his wings and feet, there was no way he could go back. He wasn't letting any of them find out about his wings, or his other changes. Especially Dream.
Tommy shivered and a snarl breached his lips. He had a feeling that if he hadn’t ran when he did, something bad would have happened to him, and he had a suspicion Dream would’ve been in the center of it.
Tommy shook that thought out of his brain. That hadn't happened, so it wasn't worth thinking about.
He huffed, staring at the sky, before a cloud gave him an idea. He sat up quickly, thinking and grinned.
He glanced at the fabric in the corner of the treehouse, and smirked, getting up.
“Time to get to work i suppose.” Tommy muttered, an excited grin on his face.
Tommy grinned, holding out the fabric. It was about a week later, and he had just finished. He slung the coak around his shoulders, and tied it off using the shoelace he had grabbed from his old shoes. He flipped the hood over his head and stood for a second, before glancing around. His wings felt weird being held back, but it was loose enough that it didn't hurt. He could see his feet, but he could find a different way to hide those. He took a breath and opened his wings.
He grinned as he felt the cloak slide between his wings, and he closed them, before opening them faster. He should be able to escape quickly because of this. He could just open his wings instead of having to take off the entire cloak.
Tommy took off the cloak before flying down to a calm water fall he had found. It was a small one, calm enough that it was like a mirror. Tommy put the cloak back on and stared at himself. His wings were hidden, which was nice to see. You couldn't even tell, there wasn't a noticeable bump. His eyes looked like whey were glowing slightly in the hood and he giggled quietly. His feet were noticeable, but he could just steal some giant tennis shoes or something.
He grinned widely, before snarling at the water. His teeth were very noticeable in the snarl, but not as much in the grin. Tommy relaxed at that. The only thing he would have to worry about is what to do to hide his feet.
Tommy shuffled off to the side, before soaring back into the sky. He dropped the cloak off at his treehouse before grabbing his knapsack, and flying again. He glanced at the sun for a moment, before flying North East. He had to go meet a friend.
Tommy was tired. His wings weren’t at full strength as he was still growing, and he had just flown all day and night.
He glided far above the small town, watching from above. Except for guards it seemed everyone was asleep. Tommy let out a sigh of relief before gliding down in circles. He tightened the circles before landing on the outskirts. He went to the backdoor of his friends house, before freezing. He could hear other voices.
Tommy ducked back immediately, further into the shadows on the side of the house. And just in time it seems, as someone walks to the door and opens it. The guy turned his head, his blue eyes skimming the darkness carefully. He shook his head and sighed. “You're right, I don't see anything Sabre. Maybe there's no one there.”
“I told ya man!” Tommy heard Sabres voice ring through the air and couldn't resist the grin. Sabre always managed to cheer him up. “There's nothing to worry about.”
“If there's nothing to worry about, why are you still here?” There was another voice, and Tommy tensed.
“What do you mean?” Sabre sounded confused, but also worried.
“I mean, why are you still here? I know you love to explore with us, and meet other people. You never stay anywhere for more than a month or two. But you've been here almost a year! You understand why we're worried right?!”
Sabre sighed. “Rainbow, Lucas, I know you're worried about me, but you don't have to worry. I'm not in danger. I'm helping someone. He-”
“Then why didn't you tell us?” Lucas interjected and Sabre sighed heavily. “He doesn't like other people seeing him.”
“That's not suspicious at all.” There was snark in the man's voice and Sabre growled, biting out a “Rainbow steve!” Sharply.
Tommy heard two sharp gasps and the sound of people stepping back.
Sabre sighed and Tommy could hear him lean against the wall heavily. “Rainbow… Im, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap. But I trust him. I'm helping him because he needs it. He has many perfectly fine and reasonable reasons to not trust strangers.”
“I-Its okay Sabre.”
“No. It's not okay. I shouldn't have snapped at you. But- I'm protective of this kid.” His voice softened towards the end.
Tommy made up his mind, and before the other people could say something, whistled softly.
If Sabre trusted these people, then he would as well.
He heard Sabre gasp and stand up, while the other two jumped.
“Sabre, whats-”
“Don't worry Rainbow. You'll see.”
Sabre came to the door and glanced around. Tommy stepped out of the shadows and Sabre grinned softly at him. “I assume you know I have friends over?” Tommy nodded and his grin widened. “Then c’mon in kid. Make yourself comfy while i make some coffee.”
Tommy shuffled inside, and into the living room, where he saw the shocked faces of the human, and a… rainbow human? That guy was weird.
He shuffled, drawing his wings in tighter, before latching onto Sabres arm as he went towards the kitchen. Sabre yelped, almost falling over, before he started chuckling. “It's alright Hatchling, you're safe here. They won't hurt you. Do you want to go make our coffees?” At Tommys nod the man leaned against the wall as Tommy hurried into the Kitchen, which was walled off from the living room.
Tommy hurried in making the coffee, but could still hear the conversation.
“He has wings.” Lucas sounded in awe and Tommy could hear Sabre sigh. “Yeah. He does. If you make him feel self conscious I will break your arms.” There was a gasp and a snort from the living room and Tommy couldn't help but smile.
The conversation continued a bit, Sabre not saying anything important, until the coffees were done, and Tommy walked out. He handed Sabre his over sweetened coffee and sat down on the floor, back to the wall. Sabre sat in a chair beside him and they all rested in a comfortable silence for a moment.
Sabre took a long sip of his coffee before turning to Tommy. “So, kiddo, is this something that needs to be private or can be said with my friends in the room?” Tommy considered it before shaking his head. “They can stay here.” His voice was quiet, but Sabre still heard him. Sabre grinned at him before ruffling his hair. Tommy let out an outraged squawk that caused everyone in the room to start giggling.
Tommy looked down and Sabre went quiet waiting for him to start.
“I need sneakers.” was the first thing out of his mouth. “My exile’s apparently ended and I want to go back for a bit to see what's happened. I've figured out ways to hide everything but my feet.”
Sabre hummed and he looked up, Tommy knew that if they could see his eyes they would be far away in thought. “Well I could give you giant shoes, but they would be clunky and not fit your feet right. I could give you something like socks that you could put on your feet to make them look normal but that still doesn't help the shoe situation since your feet would still be bigger than before. Hmm.” He stared at his coffee for a moment before jolting.
“Magic necklace!” He said suddenly. Tommy made a confused noise and he continued “If I can make a magic necklace or bracelet, I could enchant it to make your feet look and feel human, at any size you want. Then I could get you a pair of sneakers. The only thing is that the moment you would take the necklace or bracelet off your feet would return to normal, absolutely shredding any shoes or socks you had on.”
Tommy's eyes brightened and he looked awed. “You can do that?” He sounded elated and Sabre laughed. “Hell yeah I can little nestling. You'd just have to give me a couple days to hammer out the magic of it and buy a necklace or bracelet.”
Tommy grinned and hugged Sabre tightly. Sabre let out a laugh and hugged back, before patting his head. “You must be tired nestling. Go ahead and nap. You can take my nest.” The other two seemed confused at his wording, but Tommy yawned and nodded. He knew Sabre would keep him safe. He stumbled up, putting his empty coffee cup in the sink, before walking to Sabre's bedroom and collapsing into his nest of pillows and blankets. He let out a low chuff as he fell asleep, his wings curling around him to stave off the cold. In a couple days he could go back to DreamSMP to see how it has changed. For whatever reason, Tommy couldn't wait.
