Chapter 4: Chapter 3

Summary:

Hawks takes Hideyoshi home... and promptly gets accused of kidnapping.

Chapter Text

It’s only half an hour later, Hideyoshi counted the minutes, and Hawks has signed the paperwork making him Tamaki Hideyoshi. He’s now a heroes son. They say goodbye to the detective and leave soon after, heading to the place he hopes won’t be his new prison. “Welcome to the Aviary.” Hawks, who tells him his first name is Keigo smiles at him. “The living quarters are on the top floor. It’s mostly just my mum and I.”
So he is intruding. The thought makes him feel bad. “You’re not intruding.” Tamaki tells him, stopping at the door like he can read Hideyoshi’s mind. “I want you here.”
The thought of someone wanting him makes a warm feeling spread through him. He had a small smile on his face as they step inside.

“Yo!” He opens the door, and calls out to the receptionist, Kino Maya. “Meet our newest edition!”
Keigo doesn’t think there’ll be much of a problem in the long run, but he did expect what happened next. “Hawks...” The woman growled softly, scaring the kid, his kid. “Did you kidnap someone?”

“No.” He grumbles softly, the kid hesitantly hid behind Keigo, burying his face into his back. “I-”
“What’s this about my son kidnapping someone?” His mother walked into the room, his head sidekick Floss and close friend Miruko, following close behind.
Hideyoshi moved further behind him and he sighs silently. “Your scaring him.” He scolds, his voice soft as he offers the boy his hand.

He smiles as Hideyoshi takes it slowly. “I didn’t kidnap him.” He continues, letting the boy tighten his grip. “I adopted him. I’ll explain later.”
Floss and his mum just nod, but Miruko turns to face Hideyoshi. “My names Rumi, it’s Miruko when in the costume though.” Hideyoshi moves out from his hiding space. “This is Floss, Maya and Kiyome. If bird brain gives you trouble come see us.”

Keigo smiles softly as his son (his son! He doesn’t think he’ll ever get used to that) laughs silently and glares playfully at his friend. “What’s your name kid.” Maya asks. “I’ll put you in our system.”
“His name is Hideyoshi.” He tells them. “Tamaki Hideyoshi. He can’t speak.”

With a nod, she puts his name into their private records, the ones the commission couldn’t access. “I’ll come up after closing up.” She tells them. “Get the kid ready for bed and prepare to be grilled.”

“So,” Kiyome says as her son leaves his room. “You adopted a kid.”
There, a nice neutral start to the convo. “Yeah.” Keigo agrees. “I wasn’t just gonna let him go into the system. They’d tear him apart.”
“How old is he? Looks like he’s only four.” Floss asks as he eats a piece of popcorn chicken.
“Public records say eleven.” Keigo sighs. “The detective and I think his appearance is part of his quirk, Ghost.”

“I’ll help enroll him into middle school.” Maya sighs.
Kiyome can tell that’s another thing on her long list. “Tell us about him then.” She sighs. “We need to know as much as possible if we’re going to help.”
And then Keigo launches into his explanation. And then Rumi has to restrain her from going to the police station to kill the bastards herself.

“Focus on the kid.” Her son told her. “He needs us here.”
He leaves as the kid wakes up screaming, heading off to calm him down. “What’s he gonna do when they find out?” Rumi asks, staring out the window. “We can’t hide the kid forever.”
“Right now,” Floss says, standing up. “We have to focus on the present.”
Kiyome couldn’t agree more.
