Work Text:
Taehyung put one of the last boxes on top of the stack of others and let out a deep sigh, stretching his back.
- Is that all? - a soft voice could be heard coming from not fully closed door of the room just in front of him.
- It was indeed. Come on Chim, I need to go already. I can't change my ticket now and my nana will have my head if I dont come, - he walked closer to that door and knocked. - Come on, Chim!
The said door opened abruptly and revealed a young man, looking obviously pissed.
Jimin and Taehyung luckily got into the same University, albeit into different departments. It was their dream they have been working so hard towards for years and moving to Seoul was a life-changing decision.
Of course they rented a place for both of them, a two-bedroom flat not so far away from campus. They were supposed to move all their things that arrived today and start unpacking but Taehyung, being the airy-head that he was, totally forgot about his grandmother's birthday and had to rush back to Busan now. Jimin was not amused.
- Why don't you put this time to use and find a part time job? You were going to look for it anyway, so why not start now? - Tae suggested.
- Ugh, fine. Let me just change into something different and I'll walk to the station with you.
When they parted ways at the station, Jimin decided to look aound the area. If he could find something close to where they lived now that would be so much more beneficial than paying for public transportation every work day he has.
Not so far away from the flat he saw a coffee shop called Sweet as Honey. It looked small but that was the thing with small businesses like that: on the inside they often happened to be those comfy quaint places that you always want to return to.
Sweet as Honey was definitely one of them, and more. It turned out to be a bakery as well, a pleasant comforting smell hitting Jimin's nose and making him want to bathe in it. He took a better look at everything inside. Although most of the colours were beige, orange and cream, he noticed some mismatched chairs and pretty tapestries hanging on some of the walls. Yes, that as surely one of those places
- Welcome to Sweet as Honey, how can I help you?
Jimin looked at the direction of the voice and ended up havig to lift his head a bit. The waiter - he as sure that's who he was - was taller and broader than him, although he did look younger. Did they hold auditions for staff here? Because that kid looked like a model.
Tae would be able to appreciate this one, Jimin thought.
He asked about the job and luckily enough they did need a waiter for part time. He was asked to go in the back room where the office was and there he was met by another attractive human being, Kim Seokjin, the co-owner of the place. He was asked to come back the next day for a trial shift and if that goes well he will have this position secured.
Life can't get any better that this, thought Jimin, until he was about to exit the office and bumped into another worker.
- Ah, Jimin-ssi, meet my business partner and the most talented baker in the area, Min Yoongi. You should definitely try everything he makes here and if you stick around, you will surely have your chance...
But Jimin wasn't listening to his future boss (or one of the bosses) anymore. His eyes were trained on the man in front of him, wearing a uniform and a black apron, with dark red hair and pretty soft looking face. And what a beautiful sight that was. His eyes were a little droopy as if he was sleepy which contrasted deeply with the piercing look in them. The look directed at no other than Jimin himself. God, that man was downright gorgeous.
He belatedly realised he was staring for a longer time that would be considered respectful so he gathered himself and gave a man a proper bow.
- Nice to meet you, Yoongi-ssi, I'm Jimin, I will be one of your new waiters starting tomorrow. Thank you for this opportunity!
He smiled cutely, eyes crinkling and cheeks bunching, trying to look good because he had a hunch that the man wanted to tell him off for bumping into him.
Yoongi only grunted something in response and gave a small nod.
- Seokjin, I need to talk to you, - with that he entered the office and when Jimin was about to leave he added - Don't be late tomorrow. I don't like tardiness.
Jimin gulped. This sounded intimidating so he resumed to not saying anything and just bowed again before leaving the bakery entirely.
The next morning came quicker than he thought, greeting him with dozens of messages and pictures from his best friend. He was happy Jimin managed to find something so quickly and honestly, so was Jimin. He was just intimidated by that man a bit and he could already see them bumping heads more than once, but Jimin was also determined.
And today he was determined to prove to Min Yoongi that he was a good and responsible worker by showing up on time.
He made sure to look decent but not too casual, wearing some tight black pants and a simple white button up shirt. He left the flat 30 minutes before his trial shift and got to his new workplace on time.
The smell of baked goods was just as heavenly as yesterday and he again felt happy he stumbled upon this place.
Today he was met by Yoongi himself who greeted him a bit tensely and Jimin started to get worried. This might be just another challenge for him and his socializing skills.
Yoongi explained some things Jimin should do every day and things that need to be done on his shift today. He would be under Jungkok's - the taller kid - training all day so he can get used to the way things are done.
The shift went better than ever. Jimin could work with the till too having gotten some experience at a local grocery store back in hometown during his summer breaks.
- Today was good, - Yoongi said to him when he was finishing cleaning up. - I think you will manage this job no problem. Please discuss your schedule with Seokjin later. In the meantime, tomorrow you can start working normally.
- So I passed then? - asked Jimin, trying to look Yoongi in the eyes but the other averted them to the countertop quickly.
Oh no, thought Jimin, time to break some ice.
- Yoongi-ssi? I wondered if you could help me with something?
- Yeah, what is it?
- Well, - said Jimin, leaning on the counter a bit, turning his body slightly sideways. He knew all his good angles. - I am yet to try something that you made. What would you recommend?
His boss seemed to be deep in though but he answered anyway:
- What kind of things do you like? - asked his boss, still not looking at him. At least his eyes were scanning through the names of the pastries they had beautifully written above the coffee station.
- Oh, I think I want the prettiest, fluffiest, sparkliest cupcake you ever made, Yoongi-ssi, - Jimin's voice turned honey-like and he saw Yoongi's eyes widening a fraction before going back to the blank expression he has seen on him all day.
He snorted and walked to the display, picking up something indeed fluffy, with lilac and pink sprinkles all over:
- It's your lucky day, Jimin-ssi, because I have exactly what you're looking for.
Oh sure, Jimin thought, it just doesnt have any calories and looks the cutest in an apron.
He thanked his boss and tried the pastry, immediately smearing cream and srrinkles all over his plump lips.
He heard a chuckle and raised his eyes at the elder who was already handing him a tissue.
- Thanks a lot.
- You're welcome, - Yoongi responded and added, - You eat like a baby.
Jimin didn't even blink.
- I'm sorry this is just too good, - he hummed appreciatively, - I'm enjoying this so much!
When he looked up from what was left of his cupcake his eyes landed on Yoongi and oh, there was pink dusting his cheeks now, eyes cast downwards. He hunched a little
and one of his hands fiddled with the hem of his apron.
- So cute, - Jimin didn't even realise he said it out loud until his boss snapped his head to look at his workers face, expression turning almost stern.
- Let's finish and go, Jimin-ssi. Thank you for today.
Bam.
Jimin felt offended because he was used to people being enamoured with him fairly quickly and well. That was actually refreshing.
He wanted that man to like him and maybe see what's going to come out of it. Maybe a good friendly relationship based on respect, he would take that one too. This time it wasn't somebdy trailing after him like a puppy because of his looks, this time he actually liked someone himself and that was a breath of fresh air he so badly needed.
So during the course of next several weeks Jungkook and Tae, who quite liked the idea of Jimin chasing after his seemingly cold boss could watch Jimin's failed attempts one after another.
He tried complimenting Yoongi, but he would always brush it off and went back to professional distance.
He would try to get more touchy, once even daring to wipe some of the flour that seemed to have stuck to the elder permanently, right off his adorable rounded cheek but ended up tangling one of his bracelets with the earrings Yoongi was wearing that day.
This was a disaster.
So for the last several shifts he decided to give himself some rest and mostly stayed behind the counter and did small tasks around the shop when they didn't have any customers. That's instead of lurking next to the kitchen watching some adorable, broad shouldered baker in a tight T-shirt kneading some dough...
- Jimin?
- Huh? Sorry, hyung, I must have spaced out a bit.
That might be the only progress they made within these weeks. Yoongi let Jimin call him hyung but that was that.
- Is something the matter? Did I mess up? - Jimin giggled and looked at the elder expextantly. And there is was again, old friend, thought I'd never see you again, thought Jimin.
There was this faint blush on Yoongi's cheeks, barely noticeable, but still there.
- I was actually about to ask yoy that, Jiminie. You're awfully quiet today.
He rubbed the back of his neck as if we was embarrassed of what he asked about. And that was true, Jimin usually - when noone was there - would sing along to the songs
on the radio or just belt out the lyrics by memory. Jungkook and Jin would always laugh and Yoongi would watch him sometimes from the kitchen entrance.
- Oh, I guess...I guess I was just upset a bit today. See, - Jimin decided it's do or die today - I have this guy I know. He's so great! He's hard working and dedicated. And he's good at what he does. And he looks amazing and has a soft personality. - He noticed Yoongi's blows furrow - And you see, I've liked him for weeks now but he is... GOD, Yoongi-hyung, just ask me out already!
Jimin stomped his foot for a good measure and Yoongi backed off a bit.
- Who? Me?
Jimin rolled his eyes but decided not to say anything at let Yoongi absorb all the information.
His head was always busy with all the things he had to do, new recipes and running a business. But when he realised, his expression softened and a small smile apeared on
his adorable face.
- Jimin-ah...
Jimin crossed his arms and tried to will away the smile that threatened to bloom on his face.
- Jimin-ah, why didn't you just say that from the start?
Jimin squaked indignantly:
- I tried, so many times, like...
- Ah, when you tried ripping my ear off, what was that for, by the way? Did like the cinnammon rolls?
Jimin wanted to be angry and retort, but his heart was too soft for this clueless hard-working man. So he only sighed heavily.
- Let's go somethere tonight, Jiminie?
Jimin's eyes lit u at that:
- Where?
- I don't really know, a coffeshop maybe?
They laughed and continued with their shifts until there was time to go.
And Jimin thought, as he was kissing Yoongi oh so sweetly, next to his place where his hyung drove him back after their date, that he has a good feeling about this.
Peppering Yoongi's face and cheeks with little kisses and holding onto his hands, he thought that life can and will get better than this.
