"You call them cool, those hearts that have no scars to show; the ones that never do let go; and risk the tables being turned"
Bakugou Katsuki knew his quirk was awesome. His parents said so, the doctor said so, his classmates and teachers said so. Midoriya Izuku followed him around endlessly, and constantly chattered about how awesome his quirk was. Bakugou couldn't help but preen under everyone's comments, and it honestly made it so easy to pick on Deku for being a quirkless crybaby. The Nerd never gave up, no matter how much Bakugou insulted and abused him. But Deku didn't matter; Bakugou was going to be a Hero, he was going to be the #1 Hero, and no one was going to stand in the way of his goal. Anyone that tried would simply get a face full of fire.
"You call them fools, who have to dance within the flame, who chance the sorrow and the shame that always comes with getting burned"
Not only had Shitty Deku made it into U.A., he was in the same fucking class as Bakugou. How that useless Nerd got a quirk that strong Bakugou didn't know, but he would find out. Bakugou wasn't going to risk letting fucking Deku ruin his shot of being the best, not with some weird late-growth quirk that made no sense. Bakugou has known the Nerd his entire life. His parents could breath fire and pull objects towards herself, it made no sense for FUCKING DEKU to have such a powerful strength based quirk. How did the loser Nerd keep catching up and beating him? Bakugou was going to be the best, he had to get stronger, faster, more accurate. He scowled when he heard the Nerd laughing with his friends, shrugging off any desire for companionship. He didn't need friends, that would just slow him down, everyone here was just a fucking extra on his way to the top. Too bad Shitty Hair and Racoon Eyes couldn't get the fucking memo, no matter how he blew up at them. Their self-dubbed "Bakusquad" was just another annoying group of extras that wanted to take up his time. They were all just obstacles in his way. Obstacles to be overcome.
"But you got to be tough when consumed by desire; cause it's not enough just to stand outside the fire"
The Sports Festival turned Bakugou upside down. Sure he won, but not how he wanted to. Damned Half-N-Half bastard going easy on him on the final round. He had the balls to go all out against Deku but couldn't against Bakugou. That was bullshit. Bakugou felt the win was cheated. How was he supposed to be #1 if he wasn't taken seriously....
...Like Pink Cheeks... She came at him with everything she had. He underestimated her, not by thinking she was fragile like the rest of the fucking idiots, but because he thought Deku had helped with her strategy. Everyone in the audience could go to hell for thinking Cheeks was weak. She almost did him in, but he was just that much stronger. She'd never be #1 but Bakugou was sure she'd be someone to watch, she'd kick everyone's ass to take a place at the table. And that was fine. She could have a seat all she wanted, but the Head Chair was his. She was interesting, but his goal was the focus. Bakugou needed to push those thoughts aside, if he was going to win everything.
"We call them strong; those who can face this world alone, who seem to get by on their own, those who will never take the fall"
"Hey BakuBro! Come play some smash with us!" Kirishima called to the angsty blonde. Bakugou just tsk'd as he walked into the room. Just because he didn't want to kill this group of extra's didn't mean they were friends or that he had gone soft. He didn't need them. He was fine alone, training, or studying, not playing some stupid video game. He simply chose at that moment to sit on the couch and grab the controller from Tape Arms. It didn't mean anything, he just wanted another competition for him to beat the extras at. As the others were selecting their characters, Bakugou felt someone watching him. Looking around he noticed Deku's group sitting in the other grouping of couches and chairs, talking and laughing, but Uraraka was looking at him. Bakugou frowned slightly, before his attention pulled back to the tv screen by Kirishima and Racoon Eyes yelling excitedly. Why had she been watching him?
"We call them weak, who are unable to resist, the slightest chance love might exist and for that forsake it all"
A Crush. Bakugou Katsuki has a crush on Cheeks.... Uraraka Ochako. He's been watching her now. She's fast with those martial arts, and the way she's over come her nausea when using her quirk on herself, she's become quite adapt at floating around. Mostly he watches her, because she's the only on in their class that has the nerve to stand up to him. Everyone else shrugs him off at this point, knowing his threats are idle, but she stands up to him with a smirk and calls him out on his bullshit. He finds he likes that. Now the question was, does he do anything about it. Bakugou Katsuki doesn't back down from a challenge, but is it a challenge when no one else knows it. Does he risk the image he's cultivated over 2 years at U.A, and the way he grew up, and do something? Should he risk being seen as weak or sentimental like Sparky and Ears when they started dating, or Kirishima and Racoon Eyes finally stopped pussy-footing around each other. What he should do is just ignore these feelings. Sentimentality wont make him the #1 Hero. He contemplates his choices while he works out. But as he works out his choices, Uraraka has made hers. She walks up to the blonde, occupied by stretching, until he notices her presence. Before he can say anything, she looks him square in the eyes, and leans forward to press a chaste kiss to his lips. His choice has been made.
"They're so hellbent on giving, walking a wire, convinced its not living if you stand outside the fire"
Ochako was the greatest thing to happen to Katsuki. She showed him some amazingly beautiful things, that he had never bothered with before. Soft gentle touches, sweet and delicious things. Mostly he just liked watching her eyes light up when something beautiful caught her attention. She made things worthwhile to experience. It didn't hurt that as a combat team they were nearly unstoppable. Combining her anti-gravity with his propulsion explosions, they were fast, tough and strong. She called them Zero Gravity, playing with their hero names, Ground Zero and Uravity. Ochako understood that their lives were literally in each others hands everytime they used such maneuvers. Katsuki couldn't think of anyone that he trusted more, nor could he think of anyone he'd rather race into a crisis with.
"Standing Outside the Fire, Standing Outside the Fire; life is not tried it is merely survived if you're Standing Outside the Fire"
Katsuki thought about his life up to this point. From being a childhood bully, to a difficult student, a boyfriend, a true friend, a hero-graduate, to a side-kick. Now he stood on the precipice of being a full fledged hero, and Ochako stood right beside him. The pair had kept up with both their personal and work relationships. It was hard, dating a hero, sleepless nights as you wait for your lover to come home. How many times has he texted her, saying he was in the hospital, bruised, but only slightly broken. How many times has she come home, costume torn, and bloodied, only to smirk and tell him that he should see the other guy. That's who they were. They're Heroes. They put their lives on the line to keep everyone else safe. Civilians wouldn't understand Katsuki's trauma of being restrained, anymore than they'd understand Ochakos fear of pitch blackness. But they get it. It's the experiences that shape you as heroes, the wonderful highs and the terrible traumas. That's why they keep fighting. That's why Katsuki always looks into Ochako's eyes before they do something heroically dangerous. He needs to see that she's there. That crazy look in her eyes, it makes them sparkle as she feels the adrenaline building. That's what he looks for. Knowing that neither of them could survive without this high.
"There's this love that is burning deep in my soul; constantly yearning to get out of control; wanting to fly higher and higher; I can't abide Standing Outside the Fire"
"Hey Ochako, there's something I want to talk to you about..."
"What is it Kats?" The girl called back. She was out on the balcony of their apartment watering her herb garden.
" 'Chaks... I.. uhh.." Katsuki bit his tougue. He had rehearsed for weeks what he was going to say. The small velvet box was so soft in his rough hands, as he turned it over nervously behind his back. The words were gone, and he was lost as to what to say.
The brunette peaked around the doorway quizzically. "Katsuki what is it?"
Trying not to sweat, the man simply closed his eyes, held out the box towards her and opened it.
Not hearing any reaction, Katsuki feared the worst and cracked an eye open. Ochako's face was still puzzled. "Love, it's an empty box." She gently pointed out.
"WHAT?!" He turned the box over and frantically glanced around, hoping it had just fallen out. "There was a ring.. I was going to.." his words trailed off as he noticed her expression had gone from confused to holding in her laughter. " 'Chaks, I've lived with you long enough. Whats so funny."
Her laughter burst out, the sound like music to Katsuki. "I'm so sorry! I found the box yesterday when I was doing the laundry!" In between giggles she managed to hold up her left hand, showing the silver band with pink and orange stones. "Yes Katsuki, I will marry you!" She bounced into the shocked mans arms.
After a second he just chuckled and shifted her better in his arms. "You're going to be the death of me."
"Good, someone's gotta keep you on your toes."
Katsuki's heart felt like it was under her quirk and floating.
"Standing Outside the Fire, Standing Outside the Fire; life is not tried it is merely survived if you're Standing Outside the Fire"
Zero Gravity was at it again. The damage to the building was minor thanks to Uravity's perfectly timed releases. The road was not so lucky after Ground Zero propelled himself after his partner and the villain. The female heros' laughter echoed around the area as they fought, bouncing off the skyscraper offices, blasting explosions at the asshole who kept trying to push them back with some sort of 'air-push'. They succeed, like they always do. Uravity slinks the anti-quirk cuffs on him, before handing the villain over to the police. The media is swarming. Together they love Zero Gravity. The pair are easily marketable and make for fantastic headlines and photos. Individually the press always tears them through. How Uravity keeps her figure even though she's been seen eating mochi- like its some kind of crime to enjoy sweets or the fact she's still working and not starting a family. The media tries to vilify Ground Zero for his temper and they way he bulldozes through press conferences, not caring how he looks to them, so long as he can keep doing his job. But at the end of the day, when Bakugou Katsuki and Bakugou Ochako are curled up on their sofa, with some b-rated movie playing on the tv, it doesn't matter what the press has to say. They have each others backs on and off the job. The two of them can face anything, as they stand in the fire together.
