Chapter 2: On the excessive use of questionmarks?

Summary:

Here's the thing: there are only two possible explanations for these comments:

He's really fucking good at pulling an elaborate prank, keeping it as consistent as can be (á la the Cospiracy Board meme)
He's immortal

Notes:

This idea has been half written for months now, and today I finally had an idea to make it all work even better, and so here we are!

Thank you to my sociology professor, who has inspired this chapter by making these exact kind of jokes! ("In the 243 years I've been at this university...")
Some background knowledge about uni in Germany: the semesters start and end at the same time everywhere, however, when classes actually start and end, depends on the university. The university in this fanfiction starts classes at the end of October/beginning of November, and ends them in the middle/towards the end of February, for the winter semester. There's a christmas break of almost 10 days.

This is very experimental writing and formatting for me, I'd love some feedback on it!

Un-betaed, as usual, but all typos are entirely intentional, don't worry.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

He made another one of those comments! Joseph, what does it mean? What does it all mean???

Kommentar von Gregor: 15:10 Uhr

I think he just wants to be funny. His sense of humour is great!

Kommentar von Yasin: 15:20 Uhr

I mean, yes, it is, but somehow these comments feel different than his usual jokes?

Kommentar von Lynn: 15:23 Uhr

I think he's just pranking us.

So, I've been thinking about his remarks some more, and here's the thing: there are only two possible explanations for them:

  1. He's really fucking good at pulling an elaborate prank, keeping it as consistent as can be (á la the Cospiracy Board meme)
  2. He's immortal

Kommentar von Lynn; 08:38 Uhr

Is he consistent? I mean, it sounds like it, but does anybody have notes or something so we can check? He must've messed up somewhere. No one is that good.

Kommentar von Marco; 08:39 Uhr

Let me start a Google Doc, we can take notes together

Kommentar von Evren; 08:41 Uhr

Wait, Nico has to be in on it (or immortal as well). Remember that one time he said something about a thousand years?

PROFESSOR JOE AND NICO'S ??IMMORTAL?? TIMELINE

-teaching for 348 years

-attenting universities for 919 years

-has mentioned the profession changing over the last 350 years

-has been making art for "what feels like centuries"

-has loved Nico for a thousand years?

Geposted von Gregor: 15.12.2011, 03:41 Uhr

Oh! Does anyone remember that one slip up when he told us about that one really useful article? The one from 18-something? Iirc, he accidentally said that he had written it!

Kommentar von Evren: 06:10 Uhr

Yes, I remember that. It was one of the earlier sessions I think? Maybe 2nd or 3rd?? Anyways, it was when he told us that the "teaching profession has undergone significant changes over the last three and a half centuries" or some such

Kommentar von Lynn: 12:33 Uhr

I totally forgot about that! You're the best Evren! Also, what the fuck are the two of you doing up at these god-forsake hours?

Kommentar von Gregor: 18:57 Uhr

I was out with friends, and I'm pretty sure Evren was just being the morning person they've always been.

Kommentar von Tamara: 19:00 Uhr

There was also the other one, from 15-somthing, I think?? Like two weeks ago?

PROFESSOR JOE AND NICO'S ??IMMORTAL?? TIMELINE

-mentioned some old-ass articles, that are actually relevant to the course, like he has written them

-aforementioned articles were from 1560s and 1830s

Geposted von Marco: 20.12.2011, 09:24 Uhr

Anyone want to place bets on wether or not he really knew Michelangelo??

PROFESSOR JOE AND NICO'S ??IMMORTAL?? TIMELINE

-made an off-hand remark about Michelangelo that sounded weirdly specific [comment: made it sound like he actually knew him??]

Geposted von Lynn; 08.01.2011 Uhr, 09:53 Uhr

ALRIGHT PEOPLE, please tell me somebdy wrote down exactly what Nico said!

Kommentar von Yasin: 09:55 Uhr

I did, about to add it to the Doc!

Kommentar von Lynn: 09:59 Uhr

*praying hands emoji*

PROFESSOR JOE AND NICO'S ??IMMORTAL?? TIMELINE

-Nico said he's been teaching for about 400 years [comment: so he's older???]

-has loved Nico for a thousand years? [comment: Nico says it's only been like 800 (08.01.)]

Geposted von Sarah: 29.01.2012 Uhr, 10:29

I see it's already on the Doc, but I just wanna talk about how Nico said that it's been 900 years??? That was shortly after the first Crusade?!

Kommentar von Tamara: 10:30 Uhr

I know, right?

Joe said he's been attentindg universities for 919 (920 by now??) years, so that would be around 1090??? What if he went to university as a mortal? Like at our age?

Kommentar von Marco: 10:30 Uhr

He looks to be around 30-ish, so he could've died in the First Crusade???

Kommentar von Lynn: 10:31 Uhr

Do we think Nico is the same age? He could have died later, maybe.

Kommentar von Evren: 10:31 Uhr

But Nico was the one who made that comment about it being 900 years…

Kommentar von Sarah: 10:31 Uhr

Maybe Joe just told him stories? Or Nico's older??

Kommentar von Tamara: 10:31 Uhr

What is Nico is mortal, but in on all of it and he just plays along???

Kommentar von Gregor: 10:32 Uhr

But Joe seems too nice. He wouldn't do that to Nico, if only he were immortal. Or to himself. It'd have to be heartbreaking to love someone, knowing you would only have a few decades.

Kommentar von Yasin: 10:32 Uhr

I agree with Gregor. Also it seems he doesn't age (if he really is immortal), and I don't think he would do that to Nico. Watching someone you love grow old is hard, but growing old and watching the one you love stay as a young as ever?

Uhm, guys, am I the only one, or do you all get the error message when you open the Doc?

Kommentar von Marco: 14:03 Uhr

No, I get it too. It also isn't on my drive anymore. Weird. I def didn't delete it.

Kommentar von Tamara: 14:04 Uhr

Huh. @all the others: did one of you accidentally delete the Doc???

Kommentar von Yasin: 14:08 Uhr

I didn't.

Kommentar von Lynn: 14:21 Uhr

Me neither.

Kommentar von Gregor: 14:51 Uhr

Same here.

Kommentar von Evren: 15:34 Uhr

I didn't either.

Kommentar von Sarah: 15:35 Uhr

Same.

Kommentar von Tamara: 15:40 Uhr

Very weird. And on the day of our last session, as well! Maybe something with the drive servers?
