Work Text:

Momo trudged up the stairs to their apartment, exhausted. Who knew a day of patrolling could get so tedious? Twisting her keys in the lock and opening the door, she was greeted by a smiling mop of red and white hair.

"How was work?"

Momo didn't reply, and instead collapsed into her husband's arms.

Shouto knew as soon as he saw her face that she was beyond tired. He carried her inside and set her down on the couch, where she closed her eyes and sank into her favourite fluffy cushion. Looks like it was dinner in front of the television tonight.

"Kanuha, Mama's home!" he called down the hall.

"Mama!"

An excited four year-old came running down the hall and jumped onto Momo, earning Shouto an angry glare from below the child. Shouto smiled and returned to the kitchen to finish dinner.

10 minutes later, Shouto reappeared in the living room, carrying 3 steaming plates of carbonara (a favourite of Momo's after a recent trip to Italy.) Momo was no longer trapped under their son, who was now sitting on her lap, twiddling with a strand of her long, dark hair. At the sight of food however, the toddler sprung up and moved to receive his plate. Shouto set Momo's plate next to her and pressed a light kiss to her forehead. Even after 7 years together, she blushed slightly at the gesture.

Glancing out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kanuha grinning with a forkful of pasta.

"Wait Kanu, what do we say?"

"Itadakimasu," he said quickly before shoving a little too much pasta in his mouth, causing his cheeks to balloon. Momo giggled before wincing slightly. She hurriedly picked up her food, hoping Shouto hadn't noticed.

Kanuha finished quickly, and Shouto excused himself to run a bath for their son. When he returned, Momo was pushing food around her still almost full plate. He gave her a concerned look.

"I'm not very hungry," she lied

"How much did you use your quirk today?"

"Not much," Momo replied with a very unconvincing face. Shouto sighed.

"You need to eat."

Later, after the dishes had been washed (by Shouto, who insisted although it was Momo's turn) and Kanuha had been put to bed, the couple finally had a moment to themselves. Entering their bedroom, Shouto heard the sink in their attached ensuite run. He peeked around the corner to see Momo vigorously splashing her face, but her red eyes were a dead giveaway. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and rested his head on her shoulder.

"I hate seeing you cry, but I'm here if you need me."

Momo spun around and smiled as wide as possible, but his worried face was to much, and she broke down sobbing into his chest. Shouto gently picked her up and set her down on their futon.

"What's wrong?" he inquired carefully.

"Everything," Momo mumbled between tears. "It's too much."

"Hey, slow down, tell me about it," Shouto said soothingly.

"I'm a terrible mother. I'm never there for Kanu, I can't help him with his quirk, and I know so little about his interests even though I'm his mother." she sobbed.

"You raised him for a year almost entirely by yourself while I was still finishing at the agency. If that isn't being a great parent, I don't know what is."

Momo's crying slowed, but didn't stop.

"Work is so busy and I can't keep track of everything," she complained, a little less upset.

"I've told you a thousand times, I'm not very busy. If you need help, call me."

By now, Momo was curled up, half asleep. Shouto kissed her on the cheek, admiring her beauty even with tears on her face.

"Anything else?"

"No," she mumbled sleepily.

Shouto knew she was lying, and tugged at the hem of her sleepshirt, lifting it slightly.

"I'm not in the mood tonight," Momo muttered.

"I know," Shouto replied, pressing his left hand just above Momo's navel. A blissful warmth spread through her core.

'So he did notice,' thought Momo as her painful cramp was slowly soothed by Shouto's quirk.

As she slowly drifted off, she realised that no matter how tough life gets, Shouto was always there for her. Whether to give her support, a shoulder to cry on, or even a simple pick me up, he was always there, and that's why she loved him.
