Work Text:
The division of science and ability exploration widened their range of targets. Many residents of Yokohama that exhibit physical enhancements have been detained. The head scientist Yasano Akiko didn’t exactly marvel at her position. She decidedly hated being coaxed by the Director Mori Ougai who insisted that she ran the operation. Her moral compass wasn’t to interfere considering she was an ability user herself. Yet everyday she’d walk among the subjects confident and determined.
If it weren’t for Mori’s other ace Dazai Osamu a lot of their work would be disrupted. Dazai at the touch of his hand could stop a subject from using their ability. Making certain procedures much easier. Dazai was an enigmatic being. Yasano didn’t understand why Dazai would be nicer to certain subjects than apathetic toward others. If it weren’t for Oda the onsite psychologist Dazai probably would’ve snapped by now. Oda’s purpose was to gather physiological data on the subjects, he didn’t particularly approve of the measures being taken against ability users. But like many others; he didn’t have a choice.
At the start of the day Dazai was complaining about his existence while Yasano skimmed over a report regarding one of the newer subjects. Rashomon. His name is Akutagawa Ryunosuke. A sickly young man, who can manipulate clothing. There’s a list of incidents that make him one of the most difficult subjects. His attitude for example is atrocious, he refuses to speak when spoken too. He doesn’t follow simple orders, and fights back every given chance. Even his physical health is complicated. His body temperature drops significantly throughout the night, constantly shivering and he can’t maintain a healthy weight.
Yasano sighed and threw the report down. She wondered how Akutagawa hasn’t withered away by now. Dazai cracked his neck and lifted the report up. “More weight loss huh? You know- when a dog becomes too much of a hassle for its owners, they just put him down. What makes Akutagawa-kun any different? It’d be easy enough.” Yasano rolled her eyes “Shut up, let"s go check on him.”
Walking through the corridor of white walls and bright lights, Yasano glances at each cell before stopping at Rashomon. Akutagawa was keeled over coughing, his small frame quivered with each strangled gasp. Dazai groans out of annoyance and opens the door. As they enter the room Akutagawa stiffens, his dark eyes meet Yasano’s. “What?”
Yasano shakes her head disapprovingly. “I’ve tested your lung tissue and you are not getting any better.” Dazai eyed the tray of untouched food in the corner of the room. Akutagawa stands up on shaky legs, he chooses not to respond. Yasano continues “Your upcoming procedure requires you to be somewhat healthy. The longer I have to wait makes things difficult” Dazai added “You want to get through the worst so everything onward won’t be as bad.”
Akutagawa tilted his head “What procedure is it?” Dazai was already bored with the conversation. He’s had it many times before. Akutagawa was no different. Yasano’s eyes soften at the tinge of worry in Akutagawa’s voice. “I cannot tell you, but I will make it as painless as possible.” Akutagawa’s ability activated and hurdles a tendril of white fabric from his gown at Yasano. Dazai blocks the attack with little effort. Rashomon fades before his eyes.
Akutagawa coughs again. Yasano tries to reach out toward Dazai to prevent an altercation but he’s too quick. Akutagawa barely has the time to flinch before Dazai lifts him up by the neck. “You’re only prolonging our stay.” Akutagawa’s chest tightens with panic from lack of air. Yasano shouts “Enough, Dazai drop him.” Before Dazai lifts him up further so the fall to the floor would be even more painful, Yasano intervenes “On the bed.” Dazai obeys eyes boring into Akutagawa’s as a warning. Akutagawa falls into the bed and wheezes.
Yasano spat “You always go for the neck. But he’s compromised enough as it is. Be gentler next time.” Dazai shrugs “Hey I was protecting you.” Yasano ignores him as she checks Akutagawa’s vitals. “I’ll need an IV drip started, he’s very dehydrated.” Akutagawa turns away from her. “Listen boy, your cooperation is required. If you want to make this a hassle, then I’ll have no choice but to retaliate.” Dazai snorts “Yeah even Astushi-kun’s more obedient.” Akutagawa assumed he was referring to the brat across from his cell. The tiger who cries all day long. How could he be more manageable than him?
Akutagawa knows of the Jinko. Although they can’t hear each other since the cells are sound proof, he still can’t bear the sight of him. Subject Beast was very much a docile one. Yasano couldn’t look him in the eyes knowing that his procedure was scheduled. Unlike Akutagawa, Atsushi was very talkative and apprehensive. Dazai and Yasano enter his cell. Atsushi perks up eyes pleading. “Please, let me out of here. I don’t want to be stuck here forever.” Atsushi was recently captured shortly after Akutagawa. They both have been detained for almost a month now. Since Akutagawa’s health declined, Atsushi’s procedure was moved up.
Dazai doesn’t acknowledge Atsushi’s tears. He attempts to appear cheerful. “Atsushi my colleague here is going to prepare you for your surgery. It’d be very helpful if you cooperated.” A frown reaches Atsushi’s lips “I don’t need surgery, I’m not sick.” Yasano approaches him slowly “I know you aren’t sick but with you having an ability it is possible to pass your genes down to another generation.” Atsushi cheeks tinted pink “I don’t have any partners like that…plus I’m stuck in here. What does that have to do with surgery anyway?”
Dazai pinches the bridge of his nose “You know how animals are sent to a pound to keep them off the streets? Well essentially that’s what we are doing with you all. In the event that there is some type of escape we can’t have you repopulating.” Atsushi gawks at him “I’m not an animal.” Atsushi eyes flash at him, his eyes appearing to that of his ability.
Dazai chuckles ‘’Actually in a literal sense does this make. Your ability and all.” He turns to Yasano with a wicked smile “Wonder if he can be neutered instead in his feline form. Would it still apply when he transforms back?” Yasano almost slapped him “That wouldn’t work because of his regenerative capabilities. It needs to be done the proper way so it extends in both aspects. Now that you’ve basically told him what the procedure entails, I’m certain he will make this much more difficult.” Atsushi’s face was horrified. He immediately shifts his arms and legs to that of a beast. “That’s inhumane!” His voice filled with resentment and desperation.
Dazai holds his arms out in an attempt to avoid a fight. Which Yasano regarded as his typical behavior with him. Even though he liked to instigate with Rashomon. Atsushi being defensive was not an optimal situation. He could wreck his cell, and damage equipment. Yasano exhales “We will gas him then.” Dazai follows her out. Atsushi covers his mouth as a slight hissing noise enters the room. They wait patiently as the gas takes effect. Akutagawa watches intently at the scene in front of him.
The Jinko passes out and the monstrous duo collect him and take him away. Akutagawa decided he’d watch more closely, so when he returns he’ll have an idea of what this procedure meant.
Mori Ougai was already in the operating room. He glances at the unconscious Atsushi. “This is not the one, I want the other one first. He’s been here longer.” Yasano exchanged an irritable look with Dazai. “Akutagawa is not healthy enough to be put through such an invasive procedure.” Mori raised a brow “Oh? That won’t be an issue, I am certain he will pull through just fine. He’s young, isn’t he?” Yasano nodded “Yes, but I-.” Mori interrupted “After we’ve finished him, I want the other one.”
Dazai stepped aside and allowed the two doctors to get to work. He had a prisoner to visit. Subject Tainted otherwise known as Chuuya Nakahara. His ability to manipulate gravity was dangerous yet Mori offered him more freedom. Since he assisted in capturing future targets. Chuuya didn’t have a cell much like Dazai and Yasano. He had a suite consisting of his own living space. Dazai barges in and watches Chuuya quietly as he fiddles with his choker. The choker he wore wasn’t that of fashion of course. He was Mori’s personal attack dog. A mutt like Chuuya needed a shock collar. Chuuya notices Dazai and glares “What do you want?” Dazai leans against the wall casually “Just coming to see your progress.”
Chuuya scoffed “Yeah well I haven’t been allowed out in a while. Kind of impossible to do anything at all.” Dazai ran a hand through his hair. “You had your chance when you snatched Beast. What got in your way?” Chuuya pursed his lips and gestured to his collar. “Maybe this wretched tracking device or the risk of being shocked.” His footsteps inaudible as he approaches him. “Or maybe if my partner wasn’t completely insane, and had my back the mission wouldn’t have been a total failure.” Dazai groans dramatically “The bridge was high enough; I was almost certain it was the right one for me!” Chuuya growls “Every target I’ve personally delivered to this hell will continue to suffer if you don’t get your act together.”
Dazai eyed the ground, a brief look of sorrow crossing his features “Well Beast is getting his procedure done, and I have to fetch the sickly one next.” Chuuya shudders “What a terrible thing to happen to them. It’s unfortunate Mori couldn’t find a use for them as he did us.” Dazai nods “Yes well there’s nothing to be done about it.” Dazai glances at his watch before bidding Chuuya goodbye. “I won’t fuck up next time.” Chuuya muttered back “We will see.”
When Dazai returned the operation was complete. Mori was setting up for the next one. Dazai could see the utter disgust in Yasano’s eyes as she stared at him. Dazai tried to avoid the bleeding bandages wrapped around Atsushi’s lower waist as he carried him back. He was still unconscious when he was put back in his cell.
“That was awful…to take something away like that…” Dazai hushed her ‘’Leave your grievances to yourself, and stop acting like it was the first time.” Yasano let out a shaky breath. “Akutagawa is going to need constant moderating after this…. even with Atsushi’s regenerative abilities bruising is severe.” Dazai mused “How do you know if the castration is permanent with him?” Yasano eyed him warily “We used a sample of your blood mixed with other concoctions Mori invented, we injected it locally so his regenerative cells would die before getting a chance to even reach his groin.”
Akutagawa hated not being able to hear what the two were talking about outside of Jinko’s cell. The aftermath of the procedure did not look welcoming. Jinko was pale as ever, and his bandages were wrapped around his groin. He’d have to wait until Jinko was awake to determine the severity of the procedure.
To his horror Yasano and Dazai walked toward his cell causing Akutagawa to panic. He didn’t know what they wanted now, but it could not have been good. Dazai goes to press the mechanism to trigger the gas, but Yasano stops him. “His lungs can’t handle that; I have a sedative in my pocket.” Dazai complained “It’s always something.”
Yasano attempts to calm Akutagawa down as they enter. However, Akutagawa isn’t having any of it. He’s in the corner using his ability as a shield. “I’m not going anywhere with either of you,” His nimble legs were trembling to hold him up. Yasano steadies her voice “Listen . I don’t want to use excessive force; I think it’d be beneficial for you to make this easier for us.” Akutagawa seethed “Procedure…what’s the procedure? Jinko didn’t look okay after you took him away, why would I offer myself up?”
Yasano reaches into her pocket and gives Dazai that knowing look. Dazai moves with precision as he grabs Akutagawa who began struggling the moment his hands were on him. Akutagawa’s breathing began to pick up, and clearly in distress. His chest coiled and he began to hyperventilate. “Let me go!” He kicked Dazai where it counts. Dazai cursed and threw Akutagawa on the ground. His grip unrelenting as Yasano hovered over him with a syringe.
Akutagawa growled “Your both bastards.” Yasano made her mark, and Akutagawa quieted down. His body listless as they carried him off.
Dazai found the time during the procedure to visit Oda. The older man greets him with a gentle smile. “Have a seat.” Dazai sat down in the chair across Oda’s desk. “Two of the new subjects had their procedures today.” Oda’s brow furrowed “And that is hard for you?” Dazai held back a chuckle. As if he held on to such useless emotions. “It’s Mori that confuses me. There are other ways to prevent breeding. Why does he have to use the most brutal one?” Oda frowned, he himself didn’t like thinking about it. “I suppose he wants them completely dehumanized. Make them feel like animals, so they don’t think like humans.” Dazai leaned back into his chair.
“Is that Oda’s educated guess?” Dazai’s tone is slightly playful. Oda stares at him seriously. “It’s more of an observation, I doubt it’d be the same nature of Eunuchs.” Dazai looks at him puzzled “Eunuchs?” Oda shifts in his seat “Ancient Chinese nobles used castrated slaves in order to ensure their loyalty. But in some cases, their process was barbaric and medically lacking. Mori just removes the testicles; four thousand years ago, it could be the whole package.” Dazai held his hand up “Say no more.”
Oda retorts “You asked.” Dazai springs out of his chair. “I’ve got to get going. I’m sure you’ll enjoy talking with Atsushi. Quite the emotional one. He’ll keep you busy enough.” Dazai glances at the photo of orphans occupying the corner of his desk. A constant reminder why he was here in the first place.
Yasano had no choice but to reverse the sedative that kept Akutagawa unconscious. She needed to see him awake before retiring for the day. Akutagawa was back in his cell, To avoid any lashing out under Mori’s care. Akutagawa’s groggy eyes opened and all he could feel was numbness below his waist. Yasano held a glass of water to his lips urging him to drink. The water took the dryness away and he cleared his throat. “What happened?” Yasano didn’t respond, she left the cell before stealing a look at Atsushi. She tried to ignore the humiliated, fearful gaze.
Akutagawa winced as he stood up. He stared through the glass window. Atsushi made eye contact immediately. His eyes wide with fat tears spilling over. Akutagawa mouthed “What did they do?” He gestured below. Atsushi parted his lips ``Bad.” That was the first time they communicated. The circumstances, out of sheer desperation. Atsushi watched as Rashomon turned away from him to lay down. He wondered how his reaction would be when he woke up.
Stinging and throbbing had stirred Akutagawa awake. Any movement unbearable as every nerve below his waist trembled. He lets out a small whimper, as he peeled his bandages away. He needed to see with his own eyes; the true horror of the situation. His eyes widen at the severe bruising and he lets out a weak cough. Soon after bile rose to his throat and he began vomiting. The violent waves of nausea made his body jolt. Atsushi watched him idly waiting for Rashomon to calm down.
Akutagawa decided the cold floor was safest for his body, lying on his side letting the remainder of his stomach content drip from the corner of his cheek. He closes his eyes again to escape the pain.
Atsushi hesitated to speak when he was greeted by Yasano. He didn’t want to share the same space with her. “Atsushi, there’s someone I’d like for you to meet today.” Atsushi glared “How long do I have to be locked up for? I haven’t done anything wrong.” Yasano wasn’t going to entertain his questions. She excuses herself as Oda joins Atsushi. Oda couldn’t help the deep frown that reaches his lips. The boy in front of him, was terrified and hopelessly confused.
Oda takes a seat on Atsushi’s bed and gestures for him to sit. Atsushi hesitantly does, expecting him to be as nice as he looked. Oda calmly introduces himself. The moment Atsushi realizes this man was just here to talk, he opens up. He wasn’t going to waste an opportunity to figure out what his purpose was.
Yasano cursed the moment she opened the door to Akutagawa’s cell. At first glance one would think he was dead. She kneels down next to his pale, shivering body and gently pulls his arm up. Akutagawa hisses in pain “Don’t move me.” Yasano pauses “You can’t be on the floor like this.” Akutagawa mumbles “It’s fine.” Yasano shakes her head “I don’t like repeating myself” She pulls at his arm again with a little more force.
Akutagawa cringes at the idea of movement. “It feels best here.” Yasano sits back on her heels frustrated. She stares at the dry bile on the floor. “You’ve thrown up.” Akutagawa remains silent, until her hands grip at his bandage. Akutagawa’s eyes shoot open “Just give me the rest of today to stay here uninterrupted.” His protests fell on deaf ears, because Yasano was now calling Dazai into the room.
Akutagawa’s heart skipped; he was in such a weakened state. He recoiled at the sight of the man. Dazai was not patient at all. His arms hook under Akutagawa’s as he drags him to the bed. His shrill screams were short lived as Dazai covered his mouth. Yasano examines his incision. “Slow healing was to be expected.” Akutagawa curls his fingers into his skin to distract himself from the pain. Dazai flicks him on the forehead “Stop that.”
Yasano sighs “I need to clean him up, and get fluids into him.” Akutagawa mutters “I don’t want it.”
Yasano whispers something to Dazai, and he returns with the sanitation crew. Akutagawa’s breath hitches, he didn’t want to be handled. Yasano, noticing his distress, shows Akutagawa a pill. “If you swallow this, I promise you won’t remember a thing.” Akutagawa stares at it in suspicion, but takes it anyway. It takes effect almost immediately and he is in a haze. The colors of the room blur together as he drifts away.
At least seven questions had been asked one after another. Not one answer was given, for he had no time to respond. Dazai was right. Atsushi was a handful. Oda waited for Atsushi to settle down before replying “I’m going to ask you some questions.” Atsushi stopped rambling, and asked “What?” Oda continued “First how are you feeling today?” Atsushi avoided his gaze and frowned “I’m upset, they did something terrible to me.”
Oda expected the procedure to be discussed.
“I know you must feel distraught which is understandable. The way things have escalated will be difficult to cope with. I can assure you, that I will do my best to keep you comfortable. The doctors may not acknowledge your feelings but I do. The first procedure was probably the most traumatic, but now all that is left is studying you.”
Atsushi gaped at him “Study me? What is there to know?” Oda flipped through his notebook and reviewed his ability. “Well considering your body shapeshifts into a tiger it warrants a full body analysis, your genetic coding, your regenerative aspects, blood components, any differentials between your cellular make up and the tigers. I’m sure there is much more, I’m not a scientist but I do know they are going to dig into every part of you.” Atsushi wanted to throw up. All of those tests sounded awful. “But I don’t consent to that. I want like a lawyer and a proper hearing.”
Oda was taken aback, Atsushi was naïve. Thinking like that would only cause more suffering. “That’s not how its going to work here. You are not considered human therefore rights like that don’t apply to you.” Atsushi was getting worked up “They certainly do! I’m a human, I have feelings!” Oda’s heart clenched “I am aware of that Atsushi, but currently there is no way to protect you.” Atsushi’s bottom lip trembled “You could let me go.”
Oda goes silent for a moment, if he could save them all he would. “I can’t do that; this is out of my control. What I can do is focus on keeping your mental health in check.” Atsushi sniffled, he tried to hold back his tears. “I’ll never be okay then.” Oda wanted to comfort him but he was out of time. Rashomon was next and he needed to finish his reports. “I’ll come check on you tomorrow okay? Maybe I could get you a book to read or something to help pass the time.” Atsushi rubbed his nose “Thank you Oda-san.” Oda contained his own sorrow; he didn’t want Atsushi to recognize his sympathy. This wasn’t the place for that.
Akutagawa was not nearly in the same spectrum as Atsushi. The boy was hardly able to communicate beyond his slurred words. Yasano had given him a sedative, so he didn’t have much to work with. Oda pulled up a chair to Akutagawa’s bedside. The raven’s head lolled to the side as his eyes peered up at him. “Your purpose is wasteful.” Akutagawa managed to articulate. Oda sighed “I am sorry you feel this way. I just want to ask how you are doing.” A weak chuckle left the ravens lips “Never better.” Oda grimaced “That is surprising considering your condition.”
Akutagawa turned his head away from him “What is this nonsense? Leave me alone.” Oda composed himself “I am going to inform you of what’s going on. You have the right to know, so you won’t be confused.”
Akutagawa wheezed “Confused? I am certain I’m quite the opposite actually.” Oda mused “Oh so you know why you are here then?” Akutagawa stared up at him, eyes dilated into black orbs. “I’m here to die.” Oda shook his head, “I would not let that happen.” The man wasn’t lying, that was one thing he wouldn’t tolerate. Akutagawa scoffs “So what then?”
Oda glanced through Akutagawa’s file before continuing. “You’re here for testing. The researchers are going to examine you, and find out how your body can manipulate clothing. I’m not sure how they plan to do that, but it won’t be any worse than what you"re experiencing now.” Akutagawa was even more furious at Oda’s explanation. That couldn’t possibly be a better fate than the ladder. “I’d rather die.”
Oda wanted to brush the raven’s hair from his face, knowing he was too weak to do it himself. “That is a toxic way of thinking.” Akutagawa wanted to punch something “No, I would. I really, really would. It’d save me from whatever torment you have waiting for me. I don’t want touched, I don’t want drugs pumped into me, and I don’t want to be trapped in this box.” Oda could sense the boy’s stubbornness fading only to be replaced with fear. “I will go mad in here.” It wasn’t hard to believe him. “I am here so you don’t succumb to anxiety or depression.”
Akutagawa wasn’t going to entertain this man for another second. He stayed silent. Oda was catching on to Akutagawa’s now defiant attitude. “I’m not going to force you to talk, but when you want to, I’ll be around.” The moment the physiatrist returned to his office he slammed the files of the two boys down and lit up a cigarette. Dazai ought to hurry up with his plan.
“Your certain Mori won’t find out?” Chuuya eyed his motorcycle that was only to be used for missions. Dazai leaned against it; voice nonchalant. “He won’t find out why we went out.”
Chuuya glared “Your going to get me killed.” Dazai wrapped his arm around Chuuya’s shoulder “That will never happen Chibi-kun.” Chuuya pushed him away “Your confidence pisses me off.”
Dazai itches his chin “I know Mori well enough, that man won’t dispose of you.” Chuuya scoffs “That’s real reassuring, do you even have the picture of the guy we are looking for?” Dazai nods before getting on the motorcycle “Hop on.” Chuuya pinched Dazai’s ear. “I’m driving idiot.” The taller shrugs as he leans back giving Chuuya space. The moment he starts the bike up, he could feel Dazai grab his waist causing him to tense up. Dazai breathes into his ear “I’ve seen you drive before, I’m not about to fly off this thing.” Chuuya rolls his eyes.
“Whatever.”
Kunikida was an intelligent man. He hid his tracks as to not raise any red flags. His ability keeps him one step ahead of the reputable organization with ill intentions. He had his own team of ability users in hiding. Kouyou ran the operation to keep ability users safe from the oppressors. She recruited Kunikida to assist her in creating a rebellion. It wasn’t that Kouyou had a strong sense of morality, everyone knew she was doing it for revenge. Ever since her daughter was taken from her; Kyouka. She was just eight years old at the time; and that was six years ago. A long enough time to plan a wide scale attack.
The hardest thing for Kunikida was thinking of all the people he couldn’t save. He didn’t know exactly what went on under the Directors “care.” However there was no doubt that those kidnapped were being treated unfairly. The last time he witnessed a capture was in the slums of Yokohoma. A young girl that went by the name of Gin was desperately searching for a safe haven for her older brother. On the way to meet him, he had already been surrounded by the authorities. Kunikida covered the girls’ mouth as they hid behind a dumpster.
The boy was in tattered clothes and sickly looking. He was malnourished, and ashen. His dark grey eyes darted around the team that surrounded him. He was like a cornered animal, desperate to find a way out.
Kunikida watched as he lashed out at the men activating his clothes like a weapon. He managed to brutally slice up a few attackers, He had the potential to take them all down if it weren’t for the red headed man. With grace and elegance only an angel could achieve, he approaches the boy.
The man uses the earth to beat him. Firing debris of rock in every direction. Once the boys knocked over, he’s quickly recovered by the soldiers who restrain him. The boy struggles for a moment before going limp. Kunikida knew they used tranquilizers but the brute force that they used was unforgivable. He could feel the sister sob into his hand. Kunikida gets a closer look at the traitor, his eyes blue as sapphire.
It wasn’t a victorious expression he wore; it was more like remorse.
Only on rare occasions did Kunikida go to town during daylight. However, he recently came up short on supplies for the refuges. When his eyes met that of a certain redhead; he was instantly on guard. He ran all the possibilities in his mind as to why they’d be in the same location. He prayed to himself that it was a coincidence and there was no need to panic. Kunikida eyed the two men getting off the motorcycle. Chuuya glanced once more at the folded picture, he nudged Dazai.
Dazai pointed at Kunikida indiscreetly. Chuuya grunted “Don’t make a scene idiot.” He pulls his helmet off, and his curled ponytail fell gently on his shoulders. Kunikida adjusts his glasses as the two men approached him. “Oi, you got a minute to talk?” the redheads voice low; as if to be cautious. Kunikida gritted his teeth, today was not his day. “I’ve got an appointment, maybe some other time.”
Chuuya hissed annoyed “I don’t have time for this shit.” Dazai pushed passed him and cheerfully stood by Kunikida’s side. “Oh, come now, how don’t you recognize me Doppo Poet?” Dazai’s tone was playful yet Kunikida looked pale as a ghost. “D-Dazai? It can’t be…” Dazai beamed “So it seems it can!” Kunikida eyed Chuuya suspiciously before turning to Dazai.
“You work with him?” His voice filled with venom. Chuuya tilted his head insulted. “What is that supposed to mean?” The blonde scrunched his nose. “You work against ability users, even though you are one.” Chuuya gaped at him while Dazai cackled “Chuuya~ you’ve been found out already!” Kunikida stepped back glaring at him. “What do you want Dazai? I thought you were dead.” Dazai shrugged “To be honest, I thought I was in hell when I woke up.”
Chuuya was becoming impatient. “You run the safe haven, right?” Kunikida was taken aback. “Excuse me?” Dazai mused “We don’t want to give Kunikida a heart attack, how inconsiderate Chibi~.” He patted Chuuya’s back. “You have no people skills. I think you’ve been locked up too long.” Chuuya shrugged him off. Kunikida stepped back, noticeably defensive. Dazai held up his hands “We didn’t come here to arrest you. Quite the opposite actually. We need your help.” Kunikida was astonished. “My help…with what?”
Chuuya continued “We need to take down the whole system. Every prisoner suffers the moment they are taken into custody.” Kunikida scoffs “Then why do you work for them?” Chuuya tapped on his collar. “I don’t.” Dazai specified “What Chuuya means is- he has no choice.”
Chuuya’s expression changed, like a memory flooding through him. He stares at Dazai in disdain. “I was doing fine until you came after me.” Dazai pinched the bridge of his nose. “Won’t you let that go?” Kunikida was over the arguing unfolding in front of him. “How can I possibly help you or trust either of you for that matter?” Dazai turned to him “What you do is surrender.” Chuuya gawked at him “That’s the plan?”
Dazai nodded his head “Yes, all the ability users in one place. We create an army from inside the walls. The moment we get the chance we fight back. Not even Mori’s men would stand a chance. A war inside his domain would end with our victory. They won’t see it coming.”
Kunikida shook his head “Are you out of your mind? You want me to betray who I fought so hard to protect?” Dazai surmised “Yes, temporarily because in the end you’ll be saving them all.” Kunikida was having a hard time registering this foolish proposal. Chuuya interrupted “What about the procedures? By the time we get everything prepared it will be too late to save them from grief.”
Dazai’s tone threatening as he peered down at Chuuya “I’ve brought you along to help me not question me.” Chuuya glared at him “You aren’t considering the wellness of the prisoners.” Kunikida didn’t like the sound of those he cherished being discussed like they were dispensable. “They will be too overwhelmed with documenting and running intake to have any time to sterilize them.”
Kunikida’s eyes widened “What?” Dazai exhaled “I am telling you, that won’t happen to your people. You have my word.” Chuuya curled his fingers around his collar. “I’ll do what I can to prevent it. If Dazai really intends to keep his word, then I’ll keep mine.” Dazai chirped “Excellent! So, what do you say?” Kunikida grimaced “It’s not my deal to make. I’ll have to discuss it with Ane-san.” Dazai pondered before pulling out a picture of young girl. “Give this to her, and tell her that Kyouka has my protection.” Kunikida eyed the photo wearily “She is not going to like this.” Dazai snorted “Well I’m surprised she hasn’t given all of you up in exchange for her daughter.” Kunikida paled, “She would never…” Dazai hummed “I wouldn’t be so sure!”
Chuuya’s collar vibrated, making him flinch. Dazai gripped Chuuya’s arm tightly. “We best be on our way.” Kunikida folded the photo in his hand “Wait.” Dazai turned to him “There’s a boy that was taken away. He has a sister. I just want him to know she’s okay. And I’d like to offer her comforting news as well.” Dazai and Chuuya exchanged a peculiar look. “What’s he look like?” Kunikida’s description was enough for them to know. Chuuya let Dazai answer that. “He’s fair.” Kunikida wasn’t going to get a better response. Before departing Dazai hinted “We will meet again. Hopefully soon.”
Akutagawa was furious with his new living arrangements. The doctor had mentioned something about making space up for new prisoners. Now his roommate was the Jinko. The whining, sensitive, annoying Jinko. Akutagawa tried pushing his bed to the other side of the room, he didn’t want it anywhere near Atsushi’s. Akutagawa struggled as the weight of the bed was too heavy. Atsushi watched him curiously, as the raven started grunting out of frustration. “Um…do you need help?” Akutagawa huffed “I can do it myself.” He stifled a cough.
Atsushi could see the slight tremble in his roommate’s frail arms. Akutagawa was physically weak. Atsushi learned that while watching Akutagawa barely hold his own against Yasano. If it weren’t for Rashomon he’d be completely helpless. Atsushi stared at his own limbs, thankful that he had strength. Although at the same time, the doctors loved testing his limits.
Akutagawa managed to push the bed a little farther before he settled down. Atsushi tilted his head “Are you okay?” Akutagawa scoffed “Have you given up?” Atsushi didn’t understand the question. The raven scorned “It’s like you have no interest in leaving this place, you’d rather mope around until your next test. You’ve accepted your fate.”
Atsushi crossed his arms as if to pout “Well excuse me for having asked you anything.” Akutagawa went to speak, but the sound of footsteps silenced him. The two boys startle when the door opens. Yasano stands with two whitecoats in tow, and all three of them stare at Akutagawa. Causing the raven to recoil.
Atsushi felt sorry for Akutagawa, he couldn’t heal miraculously like him. His pain would linger while Atsushi’s would fade. “What do you want with him?” Atsushi spoke with a voice wavering. Yasano turned to him “That is not your concern.” Atsushi prodded “But he’s my bunkmate now. I’m just curious.” Yasano shook her head “Rashomon has some tests scheduled this afternoon.” With an apathetic tone Akutagawa stared up at her “I decline.”
Yasano gestured for the men to grab him. Atsushi wanted to intervene but it’d only cause them to be rougher with the raven. Akutagawa hissed as they hauled him to his feet and dragged him away. The cold metal table drew shivering breaths from Akutagawa. His heart was pounding, and his eyes were darting around the room. Yasano stood above him, her voice calm “Relax, and take a breath.”
Akutagawa glared up at her “What are you going to do?” Yasano glanced at her clipboard, “So you are able to conjure up Rashomon from clothing. What we want to explore if the root of your ability can be activated in other ways.” Akutagawa shook his head “There is no other way.” Yasano dismissed his response. “You are a host; it could be manifested through you skin.”
Akutagawa shuddered at the very idea of his skin stretching to the lengths of Rashomon conjured a special kind of terror in him. “No, it doesn’t work like that.” He kept his voice from shaking so he’d appear confident in his statement. Yasano retorted “Well that’s what we are going to find out.” Akutagawa flashed his eyes at her “How?”
One of her assistants brushed against his right hand, he felt a prick and winced.
Yasano continued “So what we’ve used is a concentrated version of your cells that produce Rashomon. It can’t be as limited, as you might think. When you use your ability, your mind only focuses on the clothes. What I’d like you to do is focus on your hand. Imagine transferring that power into your skin. You are able to command at will, no?”
Akutagawa"s eyes widened, “I will not.” Yasano gripped Akutagawa’s chin harshly. “You will.” The raven stammered “You can’t make me.” Yasano raised a brow before turning to one of her assistance. Akutagawa squirmed under the restraints as Yasano’s assistant held his arm fully. Yasano approached him with bone cutter forceps. “You don’t want to lose a finger, do you?” Akutagawa snarled “I’ll kill you.”
Yasano gestured to his restricted figure. “You can’t do much now. Help me make this easier for you. I don’t want to cause you anymore pain than I have to.”
Akutagawa concentrated and summoned Rashomon from his gown. If it weren’t for the power suppressants, he’d be able to tear everyone up. A small tendril snatched the forceps out of Yasano’s hand. She stared at him almost amused. “Okay, now redirect that energy to your skin.” Akutagawa wavered as he focused on his hand, but a cloth tendril wrapped around it like a protective barrier.
He was left panting from the effort. Yasano frowned “We will have to remove the gown, it’s interfering.” Akutagawa ‘s lower lip trembled “And what of dignity? Does that not pertain to me either?” Yasano’s eyes softened “It won’t be for long.”
Humiliation wasn’t a foreign concept to Akutagawa, yet the moment he was undressed he breathed “This is intolerable.” Yasano hummed “Just try and focus okay.” Akutagawa curled his fists as he attempted to manipulate his flesh. He felt a slight stretching sensation in his finger.
Then blinding pain shot up his arm and he cried out. “I can’t…” Yasano hushed him “Yes you can, I saw movement. Do try again.”
Akutagawa pinched his eyes closed, the pain in his arm subsided until he was able to summon a fleshy vine of skin that extended only a few centimeters from the surface. Yasano’s eyes fixated on the vine before it snapped back into place leaving a small bruise where it returned. Yasano excitedly gripped her clipboard “Fascinating, I didn’t think Mori’s hypothesis was even possible. But here we are, he will be delighted to know it worked.”
Akutagawa cringed, he didn’t feel like it was an accomplishment, it was more revolting than anything else. “Perhaps with enough practice you won’t need fabric to manipulate Rashomon.” Akutagawa coughed “That’s not a habit, I intend to make.” Yasano mused “Well if it causes more harm than good, we won’t pursue further.” She lightly touches the newly formed bruise on his hand. “Are we done?” He asked hopefully. Yasano narrowed her eyes “For today yes, you’ve done well.” The encouragement meant nothing coming from her.
Atsushi perked up when Akutagawa arrived back at their cell. Akutagawa appeared to be worn down, and Atsushi was expecting as much. “Hey.” Atsushi pried. The raven huffed and turned away from him. Atsushi didn’t take the hint as he scooted closer to him. “It’s going to be okay.” Akutagawa scowled “Have you always been this dumb or are trying to mess with me?” Atsushi bit his bottom lip “I just think, if we chatted- this won’t be as bad. We are in the same situation.”
Akutagawa stared at him “We are going to die here.” Atsushi’s eyes teared up, because he couldn’t argue. That fate was more probable. “But while we are living, we might as well try to enjoy ourselves.” Akutagawa glanced at his bruise, “They want me to materialize Rashomon from my skin.” Atsushi gulped “That sounds disturbing.” Akutagawa shifted uncomfortably. “It’s going to be an awful death really, pushing Rashomon to be something it’s not.” Atsushi’s response was met with silence. How could they live, in a place like this?
Chuuya stood before Mori, the conference room was neat as usual. But he knew what lie within his desks, and under the tables. New target listings, scalpels, surgery dates…and experiment reports. Chuuya kept his composure. He wasn’t sure if he was being asked to go on a new mission or something far worse. Like finding out Dazai’s plan.
Mori took out his phone and presented it to Chuuya. It appeared to be map, with a blinking radar on it. “Do you know what this is Chuuya?” Chuuya had the slightest hunch. He held his breath “My tracker?”
Mori hummed indicating Chuuya was correct. He’d never admit it out loud but he almost wished Dazai was there. “So, I’m just wondering why you left the premises without permission?” Chuuya tilted his head, attempting to appear confused. “Permission? Dazai wanted me to go along with him to gather intel.” Mori raised his brow “Oh? What intel?”
Chuuya responded swiftly “An ability user.” Mori let a sinister smile reach his lips “Oh of course. I apologize for suspecting something incriminating.” Chuuya bowed “I’d never betray you sir.” Mori chuckled “You sound quite confident. Very well, your dismissed.”
Chuuya nodded before leaving. His fists were clenched tightly. He went straight for Oda’s office knowing he’d find a suicidal man hiding in there. Oda looked puzzled the moment Chuuya burst into the room. Dazai stared at Chuuya amused “Something you need Chibi-kun?” Chuuya gnarled at him “You son of a bitch. Mori was questioning me for leaving with you!”
Oda exchanged a look with Dazai before saying politely “Can you guys find somewhere else to fight? There is no violence in therapy.” Dazai walks over to Chuuya, and pulls at his arm. “Come on my petit pet, let’s leave Oda-san alone. He has work to do.” Chuuya grumbles as he follows Dazai out.
Kouyou’s expression was perplexed, the plan Kunikida proposed was a better alternative than Dazai’s prediction. The man had a knack for knowing too much. The look of uncertainty in Kunikida’s eyes almost hurt. He gained her trust, and she was ready to throw it all away. But the idea of taking Mori down with the help of those already imprisoned? That changed things.
Kouyou pushed a stray hair behind her ear. “We must speak to everyone so they are complicit. I don’t want a coo. If the refuges think they will be in danger, I’m afraid they will run off.” Kunikida added “Or worse…retaliate.” The bitterness of the options they had left, already settled deep within Kouyou’s mind. She exhales “If they are reassured that this tyranny will end, and there would be no more hiding, perhaps it will be worth it to them.”
Kunikida nodded “How do you suggest we go about telling them?” Kouyou thought for a moment before exclaiming “We tell the strongest ability users first. If we can offer them up instead of everyone that might be enough to fight back.” Kunikida looked hopeful “So we don’t send them all? Just the strong ones?” Kouyou nodded “Unless you don’t think, they could pull it off.” Kunikida shrugged “I’ll be going too.”
Kouyou’s eye twitched “No, someone needs to hold down the fort. I’m going in to save my daughter.” Kunikida shook his head “That is not apart of the plan. You don’t get involved unless we really need you to.” Kouyou eyes flashed dangerously at him “You do not give me orders.” Kunikida adjusted his glasses. “I’m not giving you an order; I’m looking out for your best interest. Just as you would mine.”
Kouyou could hear his conflicted tone, what Dazai said about her intentions lingered in Kunikida’s head. She never wanted to betray anyone, but she’d sacrifice the world for Kyouka. It was a godsend for it not ending that way. She hesitated “I will take your advice, Kunikida-san. You may go, and I will stay.” Kunikida let a rare smile reach his lips. “Thank you, Ane-san.”
Muffled sobs filled the room, rousing Akutagawa from his sleep. He squints his eyes at Atsushi, who was hugging his withered pillow. “Shut up.” Akutagawa half whispers at him. Atsushi peeked his head from above the pillow resting his chin on it. “I don’t want to be here anymore.” Akutagawa groans, before sitting up. Atsushi stared at his messy hair that stuck out in different directions. “No use crying over something that can’t be fixed.” Atsushi sniffled “I’m uncomfortable, nothing feels right.”
Akutagawa bit at one of his nails, a habit he developed from nerves. “I agree, that procedure was traumatic.” Akutagawa’s tone held no emotion to it, just a simple statement. Atsushi let out a shaky breath “You don’t sound traumatized.” Akutagawa glared at him “Well I don’t need to convince you.” Atsushi found no comfort in Akutagawa’s cold presence. “We should find a way out.” Akutagawa scoffed “How do you suppose we do that? This very conservation is being monitored.” The look of defeat, almost made Akutagawa feel bad. “They don’t care if they hurt us, or demean us.”
Atsushi began sobbing uncontrollably, which soon turned into hyperventilating. Akutagawa began to grow anxious from Atsushi’s meltdown. “You have to calm down or your going to draw attention to us, and I want to be left alone if only for a few more hours.” The lights in the room came on, and Akutagawa cursed. Two whitecoats entered the room, obviously night shift workers who weren’t used to any hassle. One of them stared at Atsushi, annoyed “Stop that.” Atsushi tried to calm his breathing down but it didn’t work. Akutagawa glanced at the two men, if he could use his ability to injure them, then perhaps they’d have a fighting chance at escape.
Akutagawa used Rashomon to wrap under one of the man"s legs, tripping him. Atsushi half transformed and pounced upon the other one. While pinned down the two men panicked. Akutagawa gritted his teeth “Open the doors or we will kill you.” The men didn’t respond and Atsushi growled pressing his paw on the other man"s neck. During the assault, they knew they had little time. Akutagawa used Rashomon to slice the man"s hand clean off. The scream resonated through the room. Two silhouettes approached the cell, it was revealed to be Dazai, and a shorter man.
They talked briefly before opening the cell. Before Atsushi or Akutagawa could react, the shorter of the two men used his ability to hold them in the air. Restraining every muscle in their bodies. Dazai led the whitecoats out of the room, and Chuuya released his grip. The prisoners collapsed to the cold floor. When Dazai returned; he and Chuuya exchanged tired looks.
Akutagawa glared up at them, and Atsushi shifted back. Dazai shook his head “You both will be reprimanded for this.” He points at one of the cameras hidden behind a steel wall. “Once Mori views the footage, I don’t know what he will do to you.” Atsushi completely loses it then “No! Don’t let him hurt us, you are one of us right? We can’t live like this anymore.”
Dazai contemplates before stating “Keep this up, and you won’t be living at all.” Akutagawa hisses “Traitors.” Dazai cocks his head to the side. “What did you say brat?” Akutagawa went to speak before Chuuya stepped in. “I’d like to go back to bed, this can be settled in the morning.” He grabs Dazai’s arm.
Dazai shrugs him off “No, out of all of the subjects this ones the worst. For all I’m concerned he can pay the price for the stunt they just pulled.” Atsushi stood up “That’s not fair, we both fought.” Akutagawa keeps quiet. Chuuya frowns “Let yourself be spared, besides it was Rashomon who caused the damage.” Dazai peers down at Akutagawa. “We’ll see what the Director wants to do.”
The moment they leave, Chuuya activates the sleeping gas. The room smokes out quickly. Akutagawa covers his mouth, letting out dry coughs. Atsushi stares at him, eyes fearful. “Don’t let them kill you.” Akutagawa closes his eyes, letting the gas steal his consciousness away.
Upon awakening in the operating room, Akutagawa wasn’t exactly surprised. He knew some form of punishment was coming but he didn’t know what. To his left was the female doctor Yasano, and to his right was Dazai. At the foot of the steel table was the Director. Akutagawa never met him while conscious and for that he was thankful. The man illuminated malevolence. Akutagawa stared up at Dazai. “What am I doing here?” Dazai peered down at him. “Well that’s what we are about to find out.”
Mori had his typical lab coat on and with a look of mischief smiled “Your ability is especially harmful. You easily managed to hack his hand off with one swift move. I truly wonder how valuable that could be in battle. The military could certainly use you. Not you specifically but Rashomon. I’d like to find out the very extent of your biology so perhaps Rashomon could be re-created. With loyal soldiers of course.” Akutagawa swallowed the fear building up in his gut. “It can’t be cloned.”
Mori gripped Akutagawa’s bony leg “Nonsense! I have the resources needed. Your body being one of them, and my formidable Head Researcher.” Mori gestures to Yasano who avoids eye contact. “I don’t think studying you post mortem would be beneficial, so I can thank Dazai for sparing you.” Akutagawa would rather have died, then be subjected to any more toying with his body.
Mori pulled up a monitor, that revealed Akutagawa’s biochemical make up. “Your ability is manifested from your consciousness, and oddly by the superficial layer of your skin. Instead of using that as a weapon the fibers in the clothes must wield Rashomon.”
Mori slowly brushes his fingers across Akutagawa’s bare arm, and gently prods at his skin. “This is my initial analysis from viewing the reports but I’d like to know more. How is a combination of your epidermis and the fibers working together at once? Or is it unrelated? I am intrigued to find out. Which is why Yasano will perform a vivisection.”
Yasano quickly places her hand over her mouth in an attempt to hide her shock. Dazai stared at Mori in disbelief. Akutagawa didn’t know how to react. Mori grinned “Yes, a very invasive task, but I believe you can handle it. Right Yasano?” Yasano nodded slowly, considering that was her only choice. Mori clasped his hands together “Great! I’d like to hear your progress; collect the samples I have requested for diagnostics.” Mori leaves them alone to prepare the order. Yasano turns away from Akutagawa. Dazai walks up to her and whispers something inaudible.
Akutagawa finds the will to speak. “You spared me for torture.” Dazai whips around and points his finger at him sternly “If you would have just waited none of this would be happening.” Akutagawa frowned “I saw a route of escape, and I took it.” Yasano called assistants in, and Dazai sighed “Where do you start?” Yasano looked over Akutagawa, who was squirming away from the hands touching him.
“We sterilize. Then we cut.”
Akutagawa hisses at them. Dazai exhales “Will you keep him awake?” Yasano gaped at him “Why would I do that?” Dazai gestured to Akutagawa’s vitals. “I’m just saying you ought to put him out now before he has a heart attack.”
Yasano glances down at Akutagawa and she can see the utter panic in his eyes. Her innate desire to move things along, distracted her from considering Akutagawa’s mindset. She orders one of the assistants to hand her a syringe. She hovers it over Akutagawa’s trembling form. He manages “Cruel.” She whispers “I know.” Akutagawa shivers from the foreign substance invading his veins before falling into the abyss.
Dazai finds himself back in Oda’s office, who was filing evaluations on the current subjects. “I have a question about one of the prisoners.” Oda stares up at him, “Who?” Dazai sits on the edge of Oda’s desk, not caring about the unfiled paperwork he pushes to the side. “Kyouka, younger girl. I know she was moved to a different floor. But I can’t go there without reasoning.”
Oda furrowed his brow “She’s physically healthy, yet she has removed herself emotionally. She hasn’t shown much interest in our talks.” Dazai fiddles with a pen, and starts clicking the end of it. “Okay, so she’s well then. Unscathed?” Oda nodded “Whatever it is your planning it better not risk lives.”
Dazai sets the pen down and scoots off the desk. “Not the innocent ones at least.” He winks at Oda before leaving his office. Mori glances at the map laid out Infront of him. Chuuya points to the drawn-on circles. “They have a whole slew of people in hiding. I believe Dazai and I could ambush them.”
Mori hums “I’ll get a team of men to accompany you.” Chuuya shifted his eyes away from him. “If we do this properly, I don’t think we will need excessive force. We wouldn’t want any bystanders getting injured.” Mori holds up his hand dismissively “Just a precaution.” Chuuya bows obediently “Of course.”
Kunikida eyes soften at the refugees who ultimately offered themselves for the mission. Tanazaki, a younger yet remarkable ability user, seemed prepared. Kunikida knew better though. He could see the fear in his eyes. Tanazaki crossed his arms, “So we wait for the enemy, and just surrender?” Kunikida nodded “That’s the plan, by doing this we avoid any damage.”
A flicker of disdain crosses the younger man"s face. “You really trust the traitors?” An obnoxious chewing noise signaled Rampo’s ungraceful presence. His eyes always closed, yet mouthful of candy. Rampo was oddly a reassuring type of man.
Although everyone was almost certain Rampo wasn’t an ability user, his overactive intelligence was hard to ignore. “It will be difficult at first, but once I’m there I’ll devise a route of escape. In case things turn sour. However strange it may be, I’m not getting any bad feelings about this.”
Kunikida looked at Tanazaki who just shrugged. “We’ll take your word for it.” After their last night of freedom, the men knew this would be worth it. Fighting with the traitors would be their salvation.
Before his session with Atsushi, Oda decided to wait for Akutagawa to be roomed back with him. Oda wasn’t certain what Akutagawa’s absence meant. He couldn’t get much information out of Dazai, that man was too scatterbrained. When hearing the news of Akutagawa’s return, he made his way to the cell. He watched as the boy was carried. A brief wave of anger hit him with a violent force, seeing Akutagawa was completely unresponsive.
He can see Atsushi walk over to him. Oda decides not to wait longer. Upon entering the cell, his eyes casted over Akutagawa who was seemingly drugged. He was pale, bandages littered his arms, and there was a patch of hair missing on his head. When he looked closer, he could see an incision that had not yet healed. Atsushi kneels next to him, ignoring Oda’s presence.
“Akutagawa?”
Atsushi tapped on his arm and his head lolled to the side eyes meeting his. “Head.” Were the only words Atsushi or Oda could make out. Atsushi glares at Oda, as if he was the cause of Akutagawa’s suffering. “They hurt him.” Oda cleared his throat. “I’m not sure what was done, but I’d like to see if there are any cognitive dysfunctions.” Atsushi steps aside, and Oda levels with Akutagawa. He nudges Akutagawa gently, and he groans.
Oda frowns before sitting the boy up. Akutagawa allowed Oda to manhandle him, which made him worry even more. The researchers wouldn’t have caused brain damage purposely for compliance. “Akutagawa, can you look at me?” Akutagawa slurs “Leav’me’lone.”
Atsushi hisses defensively as Yasano lingers outside the cell. She looks anxious but enters anyway. “Oda-san, I was looking for you.” Oda scoffs “Well you found me.” He uses the tip of his pen, and experiments with Akutagawa’s ocular reflexes.
Akutagawa leans away from him to avoid contact. Yasano huffs then turns around. “I see you have this handled. Your timing is uncanny. Make note of any serious changes in his behavior. The sedative should wear off soon.” Akutagawa heaves as bile reaches his throat. Oda, barely moved fast enough to avoid the mess.
Atsushi plugs his nose “Eww.” Akutagawa coughs “Fuck off Jinko.” Oda sighs in relief to see Akutagawa more cognitive. “How are you feeling?” Akutagawa clutches his head “Terrible.” Atsushi taps on Oda’s shoulder “Do you think his head is broken?” Oda turns to him “No, but I’m going to recommend that Akutagawa get rest.” Atsushi beams “That would be great.”
Dazai and Chuuya approached the retrieval team. “We surround them, then load them in the trucks, they are being transported back to the facility.” Dazai said as sternly as possible “We only use excessive force if they attack.” Kunikida was given the signal, gesturing for his comrades to follow him. Tanazaki hugged his sister goodbye, and turned to Gin. “I’ll make sure your brother makes it out.” Gin bows “Thank you.” Kunikida sees the authorities, they are all armed.
Dazai holds his hand up to stop any of the men from firing weapons. Kunikida adjusts his glasses ``We will go with you. No need for violence.” The plan went remarkably well.
Chuuya met with Kouyou on the sidelines. “This will work. You have my word.” Kouyou eyes remain skeptical. “For your sake, I hope it does.” She gestures to Chuuya’s collar.
Akutagawa and Atsushi stare at the men in chains being brought in. There were several of them. Akutagawa turns away from them. Atsushi places his hands on the glass barrier. “Oh my god, look how many people have been captured. This is horrible.” Akutagawa mutters “It’s only a matter of time before they have every ability user incarcerated.” Atsushi plops on his cot, and huffs dramatically. “I hate it here.” Akutagawa scratches at the healing incision on his head. “Can’t disagree.”
Chuuya and Dazai stood in Mori’s office. Mori seemed delighted with the success of their mission. Dazai was the first to speak “So, we are distributing the prisoners to different sectors of the building. Once reports are made up, then we can decide who to pair with who, to free up space.” Mori was glancing through the prisoner intake list. “We don’t have to worry about space.” Chuuya and Dazai exchanged looks. Chuuya cleared his throat “Why?” Mori smirked “We aren’t keeping them all here, in a few days we will be transporting them out of
Yokohama unto one of my partner facilities.”
Chuuya curled his fist and Dazai remained still. “A few days huh?” Mori raised a brow “That won’t be a problem will it?” Chuuya was having a hard time masking his anxiety.
Oda stares out the window off his office, overwhelmed with the number of new arrivals. He could faintly hear bickering, and soon his door is caved in by a fighting duo. Chuuya is on Dazai’s back yelling into his ear, and Dazai is trying to push him off. Oda suppressed a laugh, when Dazai’s hip hit the corner of his desk causing him to curse. “Chuuya get the fuck off me.”
Oda steps aside when Dazai reaches his hand out for help. Chuuya snatches a clump of Dazai’s hair before falling off him. Dazai groans “Would you calm yourself.”
Oda stares at Chuuya, amused “What is going on?” Chuuya pointed at Dazai ``This idiot is going to get us all killed.”
Dazai shrugged “Better to go down fighting, then not try at all.” Oda furrowed his brow “So, I take the plan will be much more dangerous now.” Chuuya secured his orange curls back in a ponytail. “Yes, our time is limited, and we have to act by tomorrow.”
Dazai ran his hand through his hair, then winced upon feeling a small bald spot courtesy of Chuuya. “Mori said for a few days, we need to make our rounds with planning. That will be tomorrow"s objective, the next day we will take action.”
Oda considered for a moment. “There are two prisoners, who would love to help. I’d like to deliver the news.” Dazai stares at him curiously “Oh? And who might that be?” Oda smirks “The troublemakers.” Chuuya rolled his eyes ``Dazai, you have to talk to Yasano because I will not, she creeps me out.” Dazai grimaces “She will not be impressed.” The three men stand in the office wondering if they will succeed, since failure was not an option.
