Thank Yous
Thank you to everyone who read this story the whole way through. I'm happy I could share it with you and I hope you got something out of it.
Thank you to my core writing support team, Squid (Nautilusopus), Billie (la_regina_scrive) and Rose (lireside). Your work as sounding boards, script doctors and beta readers helped make Wars what it is. I’m so grateful for all of your creative support, and even more so for your friendship.
Squid, I don’t know if I would have ever written this if you hadn’t given me the push I needed. You always encouraged me, but even beyond that, watching the passion and dedication you put into The Number I was an inspiration. Thank you.
Billie, I’m so fortunate to have had you in my creative circle while trying to put this project together. You have always listened and made me feel understood, and help me lift out the pieces of my work that make the whole thing shine. That kind of support is invaluable. Thank you.
Rose, thank you for always being willing to get into the nitty-gritty of the actual wordsmithing. Your eagle eyes helped make each chapter the best that it could be. In addition to being a great editor, you’ve always been a great reader - the comments you left me while beta-ing always brightened me up. “It feels like you’ve kicked me down the stairs” was a favourite.
Thank you also to the other friends in my support network, all you saltines who showed up to read or to support whenever I was wallowing in the workshopping channel. Materiodic and sanctum_c who encouraged me from the outset, subdee and Tofu who have read along from almost the start, and Sarah and Andrea whose comments always made me smile.
Thank you especially to Vareth/GlassCanon. The month or so where you were reading through Wars, one chapter per morning, was really a special kind of support that I’ll never forget. Thank you so much for doing that for me, and I’m glad you enjoyed yourself too. And, amidst all the Square-Enix Sephiroth-related suffering, I’m glad the things I had to say resonated.
Thank you to my regular commenters. Kind comments always gave me the push to keep writing. Shout outs to BoisterousBattlecat, whose enthusiasm was always infectious, and Star_Nymph for leaving a comment on chapter 40 that I kept coming back to. An extra-special thank you to everyone who drew art for the bits that inspired them.
Thank you to anybody who still loves the original game. At times, writing this felt like I was writing fic for something which no longer exists. I am so grateful to those of you still holding it in your hearts along with me.
Wars was many years in the making. I’ve had ideas for what would become this story for decades. I'm no longer in touch with many of the people who heard about it in part or in full and supported me in some way while I worked on it. If this is you – thank you, all of you. It meant a lot and always will. I hope you’re all doing well, wherever you are now.
Finally, thanks to my lovely husband who supported me all through the writing process, from little celebrations at home for every ten chapters published, to out-loud AeriSeph shitposting at the dinner table, to having been with me through everything that inspired this story. "I wish I was a cat. Then I wouldn't know this hatred" was permanently pinned to the top of my Wars snippets document. All my love.
