Summary:

It was supposed to be just for fun. Jeongguk didn't expect it to be like this. He should've known Jimin would react this way.

Work Text:

"Hi, guys!" Jeongguk smiled and waved at the camera, checking himself in the viewfinder. "I'm Jeongguk, and I'm back with another video." He carefully set the camera down on the table in front of him, settling down on the bed while tapping his feet. "Today, I'm gonna prank Jimin," Jeongguk paused, his hands drumming on the table, grinning mischievously. His bunny teeth, adored, could be seen by the viewers who found them very cute. "And to those who are new to my channel, Jimin is my boyfriend," Jeongguk explained, blushing delicately at the mention of his adorable boyfriend. "Quite a few of you have asked me; some even spammed, to do the ' I Got Someone Else Pregnant ' prank on Jimin, and I thought to myself, why the hell not? So, here we are." Licking his tongue, Jeongguk stood up and brought the camera with him.

"It's five pm," Jeongguk said, checking the wall clock to his side. "Jimin's still at work, but he should be home in an hour," he said, snapping his fingers as he finally found a place to put the camera; the cabinet next to the bathroom, where it wouldn't easily be seen. "Today is the best chance for the prank since we are both off, and I promised Jimin we would spend cuddling today, so, hopefully, he won't suspect anything."

They haven't had time for intimacy the past two weeks, both Jeongguk and Jimin had been too occupied with work, seeing each other only during breakfast or in the evening. Even then, exhausted, they could only cuddle and then sleep. It was enough, as long as they saw each other. As long as they were together. Frustrated, Jeongguk missed spending time with his boyfriend, and thus promised that today would be a rest day. Catch up, and as previously mentioned, cuddle sessions.

Jimin and Jeongguk often played these pranks, like a game of 'King of the Hill', hoping to outdo one another. It was never planned. Jeongguk's very first prank started everything. Jeongguk said he lost Jimin's cherished USB drive, containing the  most important files in the universe , as Jimin loved to tell, resulting in Jimin crying out in anger and nearly scalping Jeongguk of his hair. Afterward, Jimin refused to lose and schemed a prank on Jeongguk for revenge. Their viewers loved it, and it became a part of their ritual. The viewers named them Team Minnie and Team Kookie, which seemed appropriate. Each fan frantically cheered for their team with every prank, eagerly waiting for the winner of the couple's so-called war. As of today, Jimin was winning the war, because of his 'Let's  Break Up'  prank. Jeongguk wanted vengeance.

With the camera settled, Jeongguk brushed his hair back. He had to make sure that Jimin not found it and went to play games on his computer. He did not miss the chance to wave a peace sign to the camera before he started playing games.

After what felt like an eternity, Jeongguk heard the door creak open, followed by the sweet voice, "Jeonggukie, baby I'm home," which unmistakably was Jimin. He stood up abruptly and rushed to the front of the house, pausing to whisper to the camera, "here we go." He was suddenly feeling excited. The day had been long without Jimin, and he missed him dearly. Jeongguk patiently waited for Jimin to slip off his shoes, admiring him as he rose quickly, now energized with excitement. His fingers caressed his boyfriend's head lovingly, gently teasing him with each pull. Jimin replied by glancing upwards, his desire shyly hidden behind long lashes and smiled brightly, his round cheeks tinged with pink. "Hello, baby," Jeongguk whispered, wrapping his arms around the boyfriend's waist, drawing him closer.

"I missed you," Jimin said, cheeks squished against Jeongguk's chest. Jeongguk hummed, pleased, and kissed the crown of Jimin's head. "I'm gonna go and change my clothes first, and then we can cuddle." Jimin narrowed his eyes bashfully when they pulled apart, watching Jeongguk nod. Gaily, Jimin caught the kiss blown to him and pocketed it with a slow wink as Jeongguk watched him disappear to his room, giggling.

Jimin soon returned wearing an oversized baby blue sweater and a cutesy pair of sleeping pants. In the bedroom, they both sat close on the bed, watching each other before lying down. Jeongguk tugged Jimin closer, running a hand on Jimin's lithe waist. Jimin wiggled himself closer into Jeongguk's embrace, his face resting on the crook of Jeongguk's neck. At the same time, Jeongguk planted a soft kiss on Jimin's forehead, drawing a content sigh from him.

Jeongguk was mesmerized with his lovely boyfriend and nearly forgot about the prank. He had planned this act of mischief for days and wanted everything to be perfect. Jeongguk had no exceptional talent for acting, and worse, he was a horrible liar. Jimin could always tell. So, for this prank, he threw caution to the wind to ensure everything worked as planned. Conspiring with a close friend who Jimin didn't know, Jeongguk would use an unknown number to send Jimin text messages. The friend would pretend to be the girl who Jeongguk got pregnant, and Jeongguk would declare to Jimin that he'll be a responsible adult.

Jimin was supposed to receive the messages by now and smiled when he heard Jimin's phone dinging insistently. Jimin groaned, obviously not pleased of having their cuddle session interrupted. "Aren't you going to check that? Might be important," Jeongguk asked, keeping himself from laughing by pursing his lips. Jimin protested with a loud groan but stood up to get his phone. Now extremely nervous, he wiped his sweaty hands on his pant leg, unsure of Jimin's reaction. It sure as hell won't be one of happiness. He observed as Jimin went to get his phone, scrolling through his phone to read the messages.

For a few minutes, nothing happened. Silence permeated the room. Jimin still stood in front of the cabinet, motionless, so Jeongguk called to him. "Jimin? What's wrong?" Jimin remained motionless. Concerned, Jeongguk approached him, frightened of the possibility that it was, in fact, someone unknown, or that Jimin received much worse news. Jeongguk clutched Jimin's shoulder and gently turned him around. "Baby, what's wrong?" Jimin didn't answer, his gaze remaining on the phone, unmoving. e

"Jeongguk..." Jimin whispered, his voice wavering as if he didn't want Jeongguk to hear.

"Yes, baby? What is it?" Jimin handed over his cellphone. Jeongguk hesitantly accepted it and read the messages:

Unknown Number

8:12 pm

Is this Jeongguk's number?

8:13 pm

Jeongguk?

8:13 pm

Jeongguk? This is Yejin

8:14 pm

Jeongguk, I'm pregnant! What do I do? What do we do?

8:15 pm

Jeongguk! You can't just leave me the responsibility!

8:16 pm

Jeongguk, please, please respond

Jeongguk felt relieved that it was just his friend, and now he wanted to laugh. He wanted to wince in admiration of his friend's remarkable skill, but he didn't; instead, he glanced at Jimin and tried to keep his cool. Jeongguk placed the phone back on the cabinet and turned to face Jimin again.

"Kook... say something. Who's Yejin?" Jimin asked, eyes wide, confused, and frantic. His mouth had gone dry. Jeongguk remained silent for a few minutes, unsure of how to respond. "Why aren't you saying anything?" Jimin asked, exasperated.

"I met her at Yugyeom's party," Jeongguk invented.

"Is... is that real?" Jimin asked, breathless. Jeongguk looked at him and replied with a small, "yes."

Jimin's mouth fell open in astonishment. His hands clenched into trembling fists. He appeared to want to say something but decided against it. Instead, he took a shuddery breath, as if preventing himself from crying. Jeongguk's face fell.

"I'm sorry," Jeongguk blurted out; he didn't know what else to say. "I didn't know she would get pregnant."

"What are you going to do now? How did that even happen?" Jimin whimpered, demanding an answer. He peered upwards, a frown etched on his face, his eyes watery. Jimin always despised how easily tears came to his eyes. He hated how emotional he is.

"I don't know. I, I was drunk, wasted," Jeongguk faked again. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that to happen," Jimin kept silent, he looked as if he was about to break.

"What about us? What about... me? What about our dreams?" Jimin's hands weaved in the air, distressed. "Did I do something wrong?" he asked weakly. Jeongguk shook his head violently.

"No, of course not!" Jimin had one habit; a horrible one, of blaming himself for everything, and Jeongguk didn't want that. He would always blame himself for the littlest thing, even when he wasn't at fault, and Jeongguk's heart broke every time he did that.

"I'm... going to take responsibility, "Jeongguk exhaled shakily, heart thumping.

Jeongguk chanced a look at Jimin, which he immediately regretted. Jimin was crestfallen and broken. "This is so easy for you, isn't it?" Voice breaking at the end, Jimin let his head fall. He gnawed on his lips to try to stop them from trembling. He furiously wiped his tears with the fabric of his sweater, begging for them to stop falling.

"I didn't mean it-"

"What do you mean, you didn't?" Jimin scowled, though he only looked sad, shattered.

"It's already there, w-what else can I do?" Jeongguk stammered, "I'm going to take responsibility."

Tears poured down Jimin's face. He couldn't believe this was happening. He felt as if Jeongguk ripped his heart out of his chest and smashed it to pieces. He felt so betrayed and broken. And when he took a step back, his knees buckled, making him tumble, but Jeongguk quickly caught Jimin by his waist. Jimin, however, drew back immediately as if Jeongguk was contagious. As if Jeongguk was diseased.

Jeongguk tried to hold Jimin close, but he shoved him away. Jeongguk didn't stop there. He reached for Jimin again, capturing him in his arms. Jimin tried to break free, he didn't want to be anywhere near Jeongguk right now, but couldn't escape.

"Jimin, I'm so sorry," Jeongguk clinched him closer.

"Sorry? That's it?" Jimin's voice cracked, breath quivering.

"You know I love you so much."

Jimin shook his head. If Jeongguk loved him, then why? He cried harder; gut-wrenching sobs tore through his chest. "H-How can y-you do this to me?" Jimin choked, tears falling endlessly. He didn't even bother to hide them anymore. He felt like something is clawing at his heart, making it harder for him to breathe. He didn't know betrayal could hurt this much. He thought Jeongguk loved him. He made Jimin felt like the luckiest person alive, and he's not even exaggerating. His Jeongguk, who he never had to beg for love and attention. His Jeongguk, who always made sure to massages his aching feet and back when needed. His Jeongguk, who never had his eyes on anyone but him. His Jeongguk, who never failed to make him happy. His Jeongguk, who loved him the most. But it turned out he was never enough for him. Jeongguk didn't love him enough not to hurt him. He found someone else for his affection, and they were having a baby.

Anxious thoughts started clouding his mind. Maybe Jeongguk didn't find him desirable enough. Jimin wasn't too muscular nor too lean. He was just average, and although he has abs, they're not as defined as Jeongguk's. He didn't work out as much as Jeongguk did. Maybe Jimin's getting too fat for Jeongguk's liking. His cheeks were chubby. He was short and unattractive; why else would Jeongguk find someone else, right? He wondered how this Yejin looked. She was probably beautiful, like a model, the complete opposite of Jimin. After all, Jeongguk had always been surrounded by attractive people. Jeongguk being the loviñg and understanding boyfriend he was, had always assured him. Jeongguk told him he didn't care as long as he had Jimin, that he was all he ever needed.

He was such a fool to believe.

Jimin clutched to Jeongguk harder as his body shook with his sobs. He feared Jeongguk would disappear if he didn't, digging his nails deeply into Jeongguk's arms. Jimin thought that perhaps, this was the last time he was going to see Jeongguk, to hold him like this before he waved farewell. Jimin took advantage of it and pressed Jeongguk closer, burying his face on his neck.

"I'm so sorry, I love you," Jeongguk's chest burned with guilt, and his eyes stung. He couldn't bear to see his love crying, especially not over some prank. It was supposed to be just for fun and didn't expect it to be like this. He should've known Jimin would react this way. He had always been insecure and needed reassurance from him. He was regretful, devastated. He hadn't thought this through and wished he never pulled this prank in the first place.

So stupid.

"Baby," Jeongguk pulled away, catching a glimpse of Jimin, who refused to look up. He's sobbing so hard that there's snot dripping down his nose. Jimin trembled with an incredible force fueled by his sobs. Jeongguk gasped as his heart splintered into a million pieces at the sight of Jimin crying, causing him almost to tears. This was just a prank— a stupid joke. He couldn't imagine it being real. He realized he couldn't do such a thing to his boyfriend, especially when Jimin was the most intimate, thoughtful, and caring boyfriend. Jimin was the perfect person for him. He couldn't do such a horrible thing to Jimin, not when he loved him with all his heart. Jeongguk loved Jimin enough to be called cheesy, but Jimin was his everything.

Jeongguk decided it was time to stop. He felt like the worst boyfriend in the world. Cupping Jimin's face, he spoke. "Baby, look at me," Jeongguk whispered and waited patiently for Jimin to look up. "It's a prank," Jeongguk croaked, grinning though there was a distinct lump in his throat.

"Jeongguk," Jimin whined, nose scrunched, weakly attempting to stop himself from crying. He had failed, and cried harder, slapping Jeongguk in the chest weakly. Jeongguk let out a watery laugh. He cupped Jimin's cheeks once again. "It's a prank," Jeongguk repeated and pointed to where the camera was. Jimin suddenly deflated, relieved. He felt like he could breathe again. He hit Jeongguk one more time before he wrapped his arms around his neck and cried some more, drenching Jeongguk's shirt. Jeongguk didn't mind, though. Not one bit.

Jeongguk decided not to post the video. He didn't care if the video helped increase the number of subscribers on their channel or if their fans loved or approved it. Jimin made it clear that he didn't like the prank. He was hurt. Jeongguk respected his opinion and apologized while holding Jimin close and peppering him with kisses.

"Baby, you still mad at me?" Jeongguk asked. He was towel-drying Jimin's hair, gently drying his boyfriend's soft brown hair. He had just stepped out of the shower. Stubbornly, he hadn't spoken since he cried and only reluctantly showered after being convinced to calm himself down. Jimin agreed, but only if Jeongguk dried his hair. Jimin now sat on the bed's edge while Jeongguk was crouched in front of him.

"Yes," Jimin rolled his eyes, pouting petulantly. Jeongguk chuckled, gaining a glare from Jimin.

Jeongguk stopped and placed the towel on the desk beside him. Leaning forward, he brushed back, tenderly the brown locks, and kissed him on the forehead. "I'm sorry, baby. That prank was too much," Jeongguk apologized, his voice sweet and soothing. Looking into Jimin's eyes, their noses touched. "I would never do that to you, okay? I love you so much."

"I thought it was real, you asshole! I thought you didn't love me anymore. I, I thought you were gonna leave me," Jimin's eyes instantly filled with tears as his lips quivered. The thought of Jeongguk wounding him broke his heart. He couldn't imagine a future without Jeongguk, nor could he live without him. He couldn't bear the torment. He was the love of his life. He knew it was just a prank that Jeongguk would never do such a thing to him, but he couldn't help but cry. Sniffling, Jimin wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

"Hey, hey, baby, don't cry, please?" Jeongguk cupped his cheeks, forcing Jimin to pout adorably before pressing his lips into his. Jimin's eyes instantly closed, savoring Jeongguk's lips, drinking the sweet nectar deeply. Jimin wrapped his arms around Jeongguk's neck, pulling him down as Jeongguk sucked gently on his lower lip, drawing a moan from Jimin. They kissed for a few moments, relishing each other's mouths' softness, sampling the taste of mint toothpaste.

"I wouldn't leave you. I wouldn't do that. Never once have I thought of doing that. I would never do that," Jeongguk mumbled. "You are the most beautiful person in my eyes, the most important in my life. I love you so much, okay?" Jeongguk pecked Jimin's lips, once, then twice, his thumb traced the soft texture of Jimin's cheekbones garnished with a healthy blush. Jimin's eyes glimmered with tears, yet again.

"Hey-" was the only word Jeongguk managed before Jimin pulled him down for a passionate kiss.

"Buy me vanilla ice cream," Jimin pouted, causing Jeongguk to squeal in the delight of his adorable boyfriend.

"Okay, I will," Jeongguk smiled, running his fingers through Jimin's soft hair, with lovesick eyes.

"And kiss me more," Jimin demanded, pouting cutely. Jeongguk couldn't protest his desires.

For the rest of the day, Jeongguk and Jimin remained in bed, cuddling tightly, kissing deeply, and feeding each other two gallons of vanilla ice cream.

Jeongguk wouldn't have it any other way.
