Work Text:
jungkook has had his fair share of neighbors. the first neighbors were the workout enthusiasts and muscle pigs, mr. and mr. ree, who worked out in the small hallways of the apartment building. jungkook vividly remembers bringing them a gift on their first night. instead of warm welcomes and friendly conversation, however, jungkook was greeted with an abundance of workout machines and fitness equipment. much to his disappointment, he was quickly ushered inside. jungkook remembers being sore for a week, though he owed it to the rees for pushing him to get a gym membership.
the second neighbors were the divorced couple that still lived together, mr. chung and ms. tsoi, who’s arguments could be heard very clearly through the wall (jungkook has never been able to forget the one about their failed sex life). again, jungkook had prepared a “welcome home!” gift to present to the new tenants. much to his chagrin, however, the neighbors did not seem to appreciate the “welcome to the happy couple!” iced neatly on the cake; and jungkook was welcomed with the slam of a door in his face.
then there was the rich college student who threw wild parties every single night, junghwa. jungkook had immediately been invited to one of his parties, and being a considerate neighbor, he accepted. so jungkook had arrived at his neighbor’s door with a bottle of soju, ready to party the night away. at first, the party wasn’t so bad, a few tipsy people trying to get laid, and the odd couple sneaking away to another room. it was about an hour and a bottle of beer later when junghwa’s parents had barged in and when jungkook began to severely regret his choices. how he managed to get out of that one, jungkook can only imagine.
hell, jungkook even remembered the retired mob boss who wanted a change and desired a more “quaint and peaceful life”. that lasted about a month before he had gotten caught. police cars had lined the streets outside the apartment complex for a full 48 hours, and jungkook felt like he had seen enough K-9s to last him a lifetime. the entire ordeal never failed to send shivers up and down his spine.
thus, jungkook had learned not to expect much when it came to new neighbors. after all, people always tend to disappoint and jungkook hated disappointment.
so when jungkook walked out of his flat on sunday morning to see packaged boxes littered in the hallway, he disregarded them and continued on his way.
it was monday evening when jungkook was relaxed on the sofa with steaming takeout on the table, when a soft knock sounded throughout the apartment. jungkook groaned and shoveled noodles in his mouth as he went to open the door.
standing before him, in silk clothes and glasses perched on his nose, was the prettiest man jungkook has ever seen in his life. he shifted nervously as he studied the man waiting in front of the door to his apartment.
“you must be jungkook,” the man looked up at him, an interested gleam in his eyes, “i’m taehyung, your new neighbor.”
jungkook slowly swallowed his takeout as he prepared a response.
“you have a nice face.” jungkook mentally slapped himself as the man’s laugh rang in jungkook’s ears.
taehyung held up a bottle of wine, “may i come in?” jungkook nodded and taehyung entered his flat, the door closing quietly behind them.
