Dreaming

Summary:

Yuga had the weirdest dream... and it ended up being even weirder when he and Gakuto tried to interpret it.

Notes:

I know that Yuga is getting a new Ace, but I still prefer Sevens Road Magician because he fits Yuga better? Reflects more of his personality, I guess?

Oh yeah, and when I realised that Sevens Road had his left eye covered and Yameruler had his right eyes covered... that really blew my mind!!! O_O But I love this so, so, so much!!

Work Text:

Gakuto was waiting patiently, even though the weirdness of what was going on began making him somewhat uncomfortable.

Yuga had asked him to borrow his Ace card, Fiendish Commander Yameruler, more than five minutes ago, and yet he didn't seem eager to give it back to him. The younger boy had just been staring at it and his own Ace, Sevens Road Magician, without saying a word.

There were many times, and this was exactly one of them, when Gakuto wished that he could read Yuga's mind, his thoughts. There were obviously some circulating inside his brain, the older boy could vividly imagine those gears rotating at their utmost capacity. Yuga was staring at the two cards in his hands so intensely as if there were some messages from aliens encrypted there.

And this awkward silence eventually did become too much for Gakuto to handle.

"Um... Yuga-kun?" he mumbled sheepishly.

No response.

"Yuga-kun!"

"Eh?" finally, the boy in question blinked and snapped back into reality. "What?"

"What "what"?" Gakuto sighed. "Would you care to explain now what was this all about?"

"Oh! Sorry, sorry!" Yuga laughed a bit clumsily as he scratched the back of his head. "Sure! I just wanted to check something!"

"Check?" Gakuto tilted his head as he felt an influx of curiosity taking over him.

Yuga went silent again. Just from that expression on the younger boy's face, Gakuto was able to figure out that his friend was hesitating whether he should share whatever happened to be on his mind or not.

This kind of behaviour, hesitation, was so unnatural for Ohdo Yuga that Gakuto couldn't help becoming more intrigued.

"No need to worry," he reassured the smaller boy. "I will not laugh or anything."

"I know you won't," Yuga giggled. "This is the last thing I have to be concerned about around you. It's just... that dream I saw last night..."

He took another pause. His cheeks turned a bit more rosy, making Gakuto involuntarily hold his breath in anticipation for the story being continued.

"Well... that dream was sure strange," Yuga finally spoke.

"A dream?" Gakuto took a moment for himself to think it over and then smiled softly. "You know, sometimes dreams may tell us a lot of we try to interpret their meaning a little more thoroughly. How about we give it a try? If you want, of course?"

"Oooh! Sounds interesting!" Yuga's eyes lit up and sparkled as he was always up for experiments; he began his story right away: "So, it was about them," he waved the two cards in his hand.

"Sevens Road Magician and Yameruler?" Gakuto's eyes slightly widened; now this was getting really interesting.

"Yep," Yuga nodded. "This was so weird. Those two were hanging out together. Like, a lot."

"Is that so weird?" Gakuto chuckled. "We are friends, right? Maybe this was retranslated into your dream, making our Ace Monsters interact accordingly?"

"Hmm..." Yuga frowned a bit and crossed his arms. "I guess? Some of things they were doing though..."

"Tell me more about it?" Gakuto did his best to remain visibly calm, even though he certainly felt like some imaginary switch was flipped inside him, making his heart beat faster.

"Okay," Yuga still seemed quite flustered, but began to talk. "So in my dream Sevens Road and Yameruler were hanging out together at all times... I would even say they were inseparable. They took long strolls across different Action Fields like locations. For example, one of them was a flower field, and our Aces were walking through it... holding hands."

"H-holding hands?" Gakuto's cheeks suddenly got hotter.

"Yeah," Yuga replied. "Their fingers were firmly laced together. And as they walked, a huge rainbow shone above them and the air was filled with the sweetest scents of flowers."

"Oh..." Gakuto suddenly felt too awkward as his and Yuga's eyes met, but he never turned away; that made the younger boy's smile grow bigger as he continued his story with no hesitation at all.

"Then the scene changed entirely. The two of them were sitting on the top of some mountain at night, cuddling and watching the moon. Haha, funny because that wasn't actually the moon, I guess, as it looked too much like our planet Earth. I remember Yameruler saying something about how Sevens Road was warm and nice to cuddle wi..."

"S-sorry," the older boy interrupted him. "But your Magician's chevelure is literally made of fire. If they cuddled... wasn't Yameruler..?"

"Oh no-no!" Yuga clearly imagined the picture that appeared in Gakuto's head and laughed. "Nothing like that! There was absolutely no harm to him or whatsoever! Anyways, I don't remember much of what else they were talking about, but I can never forget them discussing how they must give their clowder of Stray Familiars a bath. Yameruler actually laughed and said that his and Sevens Road's "babies" deserved the best."

"O-oh my," Gakuto blinked. "This dream is sure odd!"

"True," Yuga agreed. "But what happened next was just... ah..."

"Mm? What is it?"

That moment of silence seemed to last forever. Yuga lowered his eyes shyly, clearly avoiding looking at Gakuto while his cheeks kept getting redder and redder. And when he finally took a deep breath and locked gazes with the older boy again, Gakuto's anxiety skyrocketed as the sound of his own heartbeat had suddenly died down so that Yuga's voice touched the very core of his soul:

"Sevens Road and Yameruler... they kissed."

Thump... thump... thump...

Gakuto's heart began beating faster and faster...

"K-kissed?" he asked in a shaky, disembodied voice.

A nod in reply.

"Y-you mean, like... on lips?"

Another nod.

Silence.

"WHAAAAAAAT?!" an explosion.

"Like I said, that dream was way too bizarre!" Yuga frantically waved his hands in a fruitless attempt to calm Gakuto down. "It's not like any of that is..!"

"Yuga-kun!" the older boy suddenly regained his composure (almost, he was still as red as a beetroot).

"Y-yeah?"

"Was there..." Gakuto had to cough as his throat suddenly became too dry; his face was burning so bad, but he had to concentrate on this particular thought. "Was there anything else weird you can remember about that dream?"

"Anything..." Yuga blinked, "...else?"

"W-well, like... you know, perspective? What was that dream like? Were you watching it from a third person view or..?"

"Oooh..!" Yuga's eyes widened, and then his blush became the deepest shade of crimson. "Actually, it was like I was watching everything through Sevens Road's eyes and..."

"And..?"

"It also felt as if... it wasn't actually Yameruler I was kissing but..." Yuga shook his head and laughed nervously. "N-no way! That was just a dream after all!"

"Yuga-kun..."

"Here!" Gakuto had his Ace card returned to him. "Nevermind my ridiculous ramblings! Dreams can be so surreal!"

Yuga said nothing else as he walked past his friend in absolute silence.

Only when he was about to reach the threshold, he found some courage to look back over his shoulder and smile.

"But hey, I was thinking... My Sevens Road Magician has his left eye covered, your Yameruler has his right eye covered... They would look like a sweet couple, don't you think?"

Gakuto never had a chance to respond as Yuga quickly ran out of the Student Council Room.

Well... at least Gakuto was never forced to disclose his own bizarre dream of a few nights prior.

Where he was watching the world through Yameruler's eyes and felt Yuga's unmistakable warmth coming from Sevens Road Magician.
