Work Text:
It was Sunday morning and Denki awoke to the bright sun streaming into his bedroom window. He peeked at his clock looking at the time, he slept in and now it was nearing noon. He couldn’t bring himself to feel guilty about it either, it was the weekend anyway and it had been a rough week of midterms. He rolled out of bed and shuffled to his bathroom in his Pikachu boxers and went about his morning routine, making himself look more presentable and less like he stayed up all night playing games. Normally on a weekend he would just throw on a plain shirt and some sweats or something to lounge around the dorms. Today was Easter though, and he had no idea if the class would wanna make any plans. He picked up his phone as he was leaving his room checking his messages from the Bakusquad group chat as he walked out of his dorm room, causing him to nearly trip over something in front of his door.
“Haah?” He said out loud, confused as to why there was something outside his door at all. He looked down and saw a pastel colored basket filled with some fake grass, a chocolate shaped Pikachu and a note attached. Leaning down to pick the basket up and read the note confused. He looked up and down the dorm hall. “Where did this come from? I don’t see anyone else with one?” Denki wondered out loud. Maybe they all already woke up and got theirs? Weird that he was the only one with one though.
He looked down at the note that one the front side had his name written on it and he flipped it over. “Kaminari, there are eggs hidden for you in the side yard. The eggs all have something inside for you, I hope you like them. Make sure you find the golden egg. Signed your secret admirer.” Denki stared at the note for a few moments not sure if he should feel creeped out or flattered. He scratched his head and shrugged it off walking with the basket down to the dorms common room. Half the class was hanging out downstairs already, his friends seeing him come in and turned to call him over.
“Denkiiiiiii!!” Mina called from the couches looking up from whatever she and Sero were watching on his phone. “Whatcha got there?” She asked curiosity in her tone but something mischievous sparkled in her eyes.
“Easter basket? I don’t know where it came from, but it had a note for me in it.” He explained in a confused voice.
“Woah, creepy.” Sero commented, looking up at him.
“Right?! Apparently they hid Easter eggs for me. I don’t know if I trust it…” he hesitated.
Mina giggled and shook her head. “Don’t look so creeped out I promise it's nothing bad!”
He looked to the pink girl skeptically, his eyes narrowing at her. “Do you know something Mina? Who’s this from?”
She shook her head and snickered. “My lips are sealed!” She said miming closing a zipper over her lips. “But really, you should go find those eggs and find out who your admirer is.” The girl said wiggling her well shaped pink eyebrows.
He whined at her refusing to tell him anything and turned to go out the dorms front door. He lifted the Pikachu chocolate outta the basket as he did and ate a bite of the sweet treat, which helped to raise his mood a little. “Secret admirer huh? Wonder who it could be.” He wondered out loud. He couldn’t think who it would be, most people he flirted with so casually and they either jokingly flirts back or avoided him completely. “Maybe it's a joke.” But somehow he knew that wasn’t right, this is too much to be a joke. Who would set up a whole Easter egg hunt and gift basket for a joke.
He rounded the corner of the building coming to the side yard of the height alliance building. The side yard was a fairly small grassy area between the dorms and other campus buildings, it had a few well manicured bushes and a tree or two that were too small to climb. Just after coming around the corner he nearly immediately found a lavender plastic egg in the grass, nested in a little patch of dandelions. Denki leaned down to pick it up and popped it open, finding another of the small yellow flowers inside it and a piece of paper.
“I’d be Dandelion if I said you weren't the cutest boy I’ve ever met.”
Denki let out a soft giggle at just how corny that was, he pulled the flower out of the egg and tucked it behind his ear before closing the egg and placing it in his basket. He stood back up and looked around for more eggs. The next one was nestled into one of the bushes and was a pale yellow color. Picking it up and opening it, This one had a funny little purple cat figure attached to a key chain. He snorted a little at it’s sleepy looking face.
“Looks kinda like Shinsou.” He tilted his head in thought. “Is he the one who did this?” He shook his head quickly. No way that “I’m not here for friends” Shinsou would do all this for him. That was probably just his wishful thinking, cause damn that boy was Denki’s biggest crush for a while. He noticed and there was another slip of paper in this one as well.
“I’d love to take a cat nap with you.”
He let out a small amused huff and closed the sleepy cat back into its egg and moved on. The next few eggs he found pretty much just contained various candies, all of which were ones he loved. He started noticing a pattern with the eggs though, so far they all seemed to either be yellow or lavender. He didn’t think much into it though.
He kept wandering through the side yard looking around bushes and in trees for more little plastic eggs. Tucked between some tree branches he found another, this one contained a tiny fuzzy yellow chick and another note.
“Hope you like Cocks more than Chicks.”
This one had him snorting. “So, it's a guy?” He wondered out loud. “I can work with that, back in your egg lil chicken.” He said, closing the plastic egg dropping it in his basket with the rest of them. Clicking his tongue he looked around searching for more eggs. The next egg was filled with chocolate when he opened it, which he quickly ate. He didn’t make any breakfast before coming out here and he sure hoped the mystery boy had made dinner plans for them. Just before dropping the egg back into his basket he saw that this one had a note too.
“You’re the sweetest boy I've ever met.”
“That’s kinda gay my dude.” He mumbled with a chuckle. He looked up and sighed. “More than half way through, probably not many more left.” He said really starting to get curious who it was. At this point all he really knew is it was a boy, with a really cheesy sense of humor. Denki continued to search around for more eggs, finding a yellow egg nestled into a bush. This one contained another note, no trinket this time though.
“You’re purrrrrfect for me, I'm not kitten.” The note read followed by a funny little cat drawing. Guess clue number two is that he liked cats, that's the second cat related egg he found.
The next egg he found and inside he found a cat similar to the purple keychain, although this one was an electric yellow and looked much more awake. “You’re Purrrretty cute.” Well, make that three cat eggs.
Denki couldn’t help but let his mind wander back to his hopes that maybe this was all from his long time crush, a certain sleepy purple haired boy who seemed to have a soft spot for cats. It seemed so fitting, but also so unlikely. It just seemed too good to be true, besides who didn't like cats?
He let out a sigh and continued on his search, the next egg being a funky looking, obviously bootleg Pikachu. Kaminari couldn't help but giggle a little. “This reminded me of you but you’re my favorite knock off Pikachu.”
“What a dork, I hope he’s as cute as he acts~” He mused out loud placing the egg in his basket. Denki was now nearing the end of the side yard and his basket of eggs was looking pretty full. “Guess I should be finding that golden egg soon?” This one took a bit more hunting not finding any more eggs lining the ground. He peeked around the last few bushes, and nothing. At the very end of the side yard there was a small tree covered in pink fluffy looking cherry blossoms. Walking up to the tree he noticed something sitting on the lower branches.
Moving closer to the tree he noticed the golden egg, but not just that. There was a bouquet of yellow and lavender roses, and another chocolate Pickachu. He grinned brightly as he picked up the chocolate placing it in the basket before turning his attention to the bouquet of roses. He lifted it and gave it a sniff, noticing the golden egg was placed in the center of the arrangement. He reached in to pop the little plastic egg open pulling out the note to see what it said.
“Curious about who i am? Meet me up on the roof of the dorms. I’ll be waiting.
P.S. I hope you’re hungry.”
Denki grinned, he couldn’t help but feel butterflies in his stomach. This was all so much and far too sweet. No one had ever done anything nearly this amazing for him before. Part of it all seemed too good to be true. With a soft sigh and a little shake he mentally prepared himself to go back inside. Hopefully avoiding the rest of the class, who would no doubt be unbearably curious about it all. “On the bright side he has food.” He thought out loud, his stomach giving him a rumble in agreement. With that he began to make his way back to the doors into the front of the dorms. He peeked through the windows seeing that there were still a good bit of people in there, though most of them were now playing a video game together.
He let out a soft groan and tried his best to sneak back in as quietly as he could. He only made it about halfway through the living room before fluffy pink hair seemed to perk up, black and gold eyes meeting his. “Denki! Come here!” He whined out at her and still did as he was told.
“Minaaa, I gotta go see who this is!” He whined to her with a pout, to which she grinned in return.
“Oh I know~” He said and pulled out her phone and pulled her texts open, typing something. “I gotta let 'em know you’re on your way!”
“So you do know who it is!” He gasped out and immediately tried to peek at the screen to try and see who she was texting. The pink girl quickly locked her screen and shoved it into her pocket, before standing up in front of him.
“Oh no you don’t.” She huffed at him. “It’s a surprise! Don’t give me that look!” She said in reply to the puppy eyes he was giving her. “Trust me, do you think I would be helping someone do all this if I didn’t think they were good enough for you?” She said with her hands on her hips.
“I guess you’re right… but I still wanna know.”
“And you’ll find out in a minute!” She told him before stepping closer to give him a look over. “But first I'm gonna make sure you look good for the occasion.” She told him and seemed to pull an eyeliner out of thin air. “Close your eyes.”
He did as he was told, he could always trust his best friend to make sure he was looking his best for a date. Even if she was kinda a menace sometimes. She quickly lined each of his eyes with surprising precision for how fast she did it. He blinked his eyes back open and she was immediately fixing his hair and straightening out his clothes. “Suppose that’s good enough, not what i would have picked out for you to wear but you look good!” She said and grabbed his shoulders and turned him back around leading him to the elevators. She pushed the button to go up and grinned at him. “Don’t look so worried! You’re gonna love it!” She reassured him and he gave a nod to her.
With that the elevator dinged and the door slid open he huffed before grinning at her. “Okay, wish me luck!” He said and squeaked as he felt her smack his ass as he turned to go into the elevator. “Hey!”
“Go woo ‘em Denks!”
He shook his head as the doors slid closed again. He sighed and pushed the button for the top level of the dorms. Once the elevator began moving the nervousness set in. He had no idea who i was gonna be up there, other than it not being anyone in his squad as he saw them all in the common room today. Well that and the fact he was pretty positive it was a guy. Besides that he had no idea how they even got onto the roof. Usually it was completely off limits to the students. Did he break the lock somehow? Did he manage to get special permission?
Denki didn’t have too much time to dwell on it though because it was only a few moments till he reached the top floor of the heights alliance. He gripped the wicker handle of the basket and stepped out of the elevator and made his way down the hall in a bit of a nervous daze. He only snapped out of it once he realized he was at the top of the stairs and was at the door that led outside to the roof. He took one last deep breath and shook himself a bit. “You can do this! Mina wouldn’t help out if it was someone you didn’t like.” And with that he gave one last determined nod and pushed through the door.
It took his eyes a moment to adjust to the bright light of the sun shining above them, looking around the roof it was pretty basic at first glance. Plain tan concrete covered the roof as he scanned the top of the building, till his eyes caught a flash of purple. First thing he noticed was a purple blanket, patterned with little black cartoon cats, laid out and piled with comfortable pillows to match. Next he noticed there were candles scattered around, and strings of lights hung around the little picnic set up. Then in the center of the blankets was a few containers of what looked to be some kind of takeout. Lastly his eyes fell on a fluffy cloud of indigo hair and tired looking violet eyes.
A shy smile crept onto Denki’s face as his eyes met and equally anxious looking Shinsou, who was rubbing the back of his neck with his hand. Denki wasn’t quite sure but it almost looked like a twinge of pink was on the boys usually pale cheeks. He couldn’t believe his crush of all people did all this for him, he was ready to give whoever it was a chance at least but this was the best possible outcome. It felt like a dream to see Shinsou be the one who set this all up for him, a wet dream even with the way he was dressed. He wore a deep indigo turtleneck under a black denim jacket and a matching pair of cuffed black jeans. He could have easily just drooled over him for a while, but did his best not to do that.
“Shinsou! So you were the mystery guy.” He said and stepped closer moving close to the blankets, the smile on his face growing as he got closer.
“Hey Kaminari.” Shinsou’s voice sounded a little tighter than his usual tired monotone. “Heh, yeah, it was me.”
“Oh wow it’s my lucky day! Part of me kinda thought it was you, but i figured that would be way too good to be true!” He said and set his basket down next to the blankets and slipped his shoes off before joining Shinsou on the pile of pillows. “But here you are!” Denki let out a love stuck sounding giggle and sat down in the pillows next to his crush. He leaned a little closer to him and gave him a playful look. “I’m a very smitten kitten~” He said with a flirty wink.
“Really?” Shinsou looked a bit shocked to see that Denki was so happy. “You thought it was me?” He gave him a nod in return.
“Yeah, I think that cats gave it away.” Denki smirked to him. “They were very cute by the way, well everything was really.” he said leaning back again, his own cheeks growing warmer. He looked down at the blankets tracing one of the cats with his finger. “I knew you liked cats, you have one on your school bag.”
“It’s pretty small. I'm surprised you noticed.” Denki smiled and hummed and let his eyes trail over the purple haired boy. From up close he noticed the smaller details of his outfit, like the silver chain around his neck with a large O-ring, or the subtle silver hoops in his ears with small lighting bolt charms. He really did look amazing right now, well he really always did but he seemed to be dressed just the way Denki liked. He obviously was looking to impress, and impressed he was. He was snapped out of his thoughts when Shinsou cleared his throat. “See something you like?”
Denki looked up to meet his eyes seeing him quirk and eyebrow, the corner of his lips curling in a slight smirk. “I uhh… I like your outfit. You look fuckin’ hot.” He said awkwardly waving his hands in the air, his cheeks growing warmer. “I-i mean you look nice.
His embarrassment earned him a light chuckle. “Thank you, Mina insisted on dressing me.” He said rubbing the back of his neck, eyes shying away. Denki couldn’t help but find him cute. “You look pretty nice yourself, Kaminari.”
Denki smiled and nearly corrected him on his name, but his stomach had other plans and decided to let out a loud growl. Shinsou looked back at him with a deadpan face. “Ah right, food.” He said and moved to open the take out containers. “Sorry, it's only takeout, but it's kinda my Easter tradition since my parents weren't really around much.” He spoke softly but gave him a small smile. “But Mina helped me pick out some of your favorites so i hope it's alright.”
“Guess i really owe Mina a huge ‘Thank you’ later, huh?” Denki smiled and perked up as Shinsou offered him a paper plate of a little bit of everything. “And don’t worry I love takeout! I’m a cheap date.” Denki jokes, and wasted no time starting to eat. He let out a happy little moan at the food. For a few minutes they both just ate quietly as the sun began to lower in the sky. He looked around as he munched on his food and let out a soft hum. He swallowed the bite he had quickly before his thought left him. “So how did you manage to get up here? It's usually locked.” Denki gave him a playful smirk. “You didn’t break the lock or something did you?”
“What? No. I just asked Aizawa to be able to use it for the day.” He told him in a monotone voice between bites of food.
“How did you manage to convince him to let you? Pretty positive you’re not the only one to ask.”
“He’s my foster dad. I offered to clean the apartment in exchange.”
Denki gasped. “He’s your DAD?! No wonder you look so alike!!” Denki giggled. “Todoroki was right for once.”
“Foster dad Kaminari, not related.” He said, giving him a deadpan look.
“Close enough! Todoroki was half right.” Denki said giggling. “It’s nice up here though, and so quiet. Nice to not be spied on by the whole class.” Denki said smiling brightly looking over at Shinsou. “Thanks for all this ‘Toshi, it’s the sweetest thing anyone has done for me.”
“Toshi?” Shinsou asked, cheeks turning a faint pink despite his deadpan face. Denki was unsure if it was blush or just the pink tinted light of the sunset.
“I-is that ok?”
“Only if I can call you Denki.”
“Please do ‘Toshi~” Denki blushed lightly hearing Shinsou say his given name for the first time, loving how it sounded on his lips. He smiled and leaned a bit closer till they set with their shoulders touching. Denki set his plate to the side once he finished eating and let his head fall to Hitoshi’s shoulder. At first Hitoshi seemed to stiffen a bit at the close contact, only to relax into it after a moment. He felt an arm wrap around his waist, seeming hesitant. Denki let out a happy sigh and snuggled up closer to the taller boys side. “So… are you gonna tell me why you did all this today?”
“Is it not obvious?”
“Oh no, it is.” Denki said with a soft laugh. “Maybe I just want you to say it.”
Hitoshi let out a small huff. “So cheeky.” He teased and pulled away just enough to look Denki in the eyes. “Well, I guess I just like you or something.”
“Or something?” Denki playfully scoffed.
“I’ve liked you… or something,” He teased. “since first year.” He told him before glancing away from him with an almost shy look. “I just didn't know how to deal with that for a long time. I didn’t know how to tell you, and I didn't want it to be too little too late after waiting for so long. So I asked Mina for help, and this happened.” Shinsou said, rubbing the back of his neck. “If you don’t feel the same, that's fine. I hope you at least had fun.”
“Really… since first year?” Denki said, the surprise had blush creeping onto his cheeks. “Then we’re a couple of idiots! I’ve liked you since first year also.” He told him with a small sigh. “I had no idea you had any interest, you're so deadpan all the time. I didn't think I had a chance.” Denki told him and moved to wrap his arms loosely around Hitoshi’s neck. “But i’m very glad i was wrong, cause i’m a very smitten kitten~”
“Well then kitten, how do you feel about being my boyfriend?” Shinsou asked him, arms moving around Denki’s waist in return.
“Wait wait! Pinch me.”
“Why?”
“Just do it!”
Shinsou looked confused but pinched Denki’s waist anyway, causing the blond to squeak.
“Ouch!”
“You told me to do it.” Sinsou said looking at the blond like he was just a little crazy.
“I know! I thought I was dreaming… the hottest boy in the school wants to be my boyfriend!” Denki said with an excited giggle.
“Is that… a yes?”
“That’s a huge ‘fuck yeah’!” Denki said excitedly, his whole face lighting up. He all but knocked the taller boy over as he excitedly moved to kiss him. Shinsou had to steady the two, placing a hand on the blond's cheek and kissing him back.
After a few moments of pleasant kissing they pulled away, sharing soft smiles. “You made this first date way too amazing, I’ve got no clue how i’m going to top this!”
