Toga sat down on her couch, plugging her earphones in to listen to the Hero News of the day. It aired a few hours ago, but who cares. It was just some heroes she didn’t care about anyway.
‘Pro hero Uravity, known as Uraraka Ochako, and-’ Toga squealed- it was her girl! (Not exactly hers, but still) She took a screenshot of the picture that showed up and saved it.
‘Pro hero Hellfire, also known as-’ Eh, Toga cared less about them. Though, their overall hero design and quirk did seem nice - but someone she wouldn’t want to fight unless she wanted permanent ugly burn scars.
‘Are fighting two villains with unknown aliases. One seems to have a warp quirk while the other one seems to have some kind of dark energy quirk. The situation has escalated further, as Pro Hero Uravity is severely injured. More pros are on the way.’
Toga had two questions that sprung up in her mind. One, will Uraraka be okay?! And two, what is a ‘dark energy quirk’? Negative energy?
Then, in the very next scene, something erupted from the villain’s hand - strong black energy directed at Uravity, who was sent flying back into rubble.
“Ochako!” Toga exclaimed out of fear and panic. She was a pro hero, she knew she could take it - but slamming into rubble at that velocity and strength - not to mention the side effects that black energy might have!
The news reporter was narrating the scene, with panic in her voice, saying things like ‘Oh noo, Uravity has been knocked into rubble!’ but Toga had already tuned her out. She had eyes, it was a fairly useless input to the situation.
Then, the villains swapped places, the black energy quirk guy dealing with Hellfire and The warp guy dealing with her Uravity. Uravity struggled to get up, her visor now cracked, the villain made a flat, two-dimensional seeming warp gate and threw her in. It faintly made her remember kurogiri.
She skipped to the end of the News, hoping to hear more of Uravity- her Ochako, to see if they know where she is or something! ‘Police are on the way to find Uravity. We currently do not know where she is.’ Well, then. She had to look for her herself if the heroes couldn’t do it. A villain will.
She quickly grabbed her duffel coat and slipped her phone in. She walked through the door to be greeted by rain. “Great.” Groaning, she walked back into her house to grab her pink polka dot patterned umbrella on her way out.
Toga muttered Uraraka’s name while walking, scanning through her neighbourhood. The neighbourhood she lived in was shady and not well kept of - owned by a few rookies and some villains- basically a ghost town in the middle of nowhere. All quirks have some kind of limit, so the warp guy may be able to only make gates from places he knows well? Then they should be in some kind of shady area without a lot of people - unless they were a part of an organisation.
She would start from her neighbourhood then reach out to other areas - she needed Uraraka to be safe.
As thirty minutes stretched on, she began to hear shuffling. Could just be a rookie, but she had her trusty blade and an empty vial - it was necessary living around these parts.
She sneaked closer to the sound, seeing a lot of rubble. Well, that wasn’t uncommon, but she was hopeful. It was a run-down building, with no apparent items or furniture inside the house.
She heard a groan of pain - sounded like a feminine quiet voice which sounded like Ochako!
She peeked over a broken wall of a ruined house, she saw Uravity in her hero costume, her helmet sitting next to her, as she sat in the corner of the ruined house, sheltering herself from the rain.
Her smile widened, a rosy tint appearing more prominent on her cheeks. “O-cha-ko-Chan!” She whisper-yelled to Uraraka, who tensed, looking startled. She grabbed her helmet- her hands were shaking. Not from the bitter cold of the rain or wind, not from being scared, but because she was frail and fragile - she could not leave her here by any means.
Uraraka untensed when she recognized those sharp fangs and amber eyes. “T-toga?” Uraraka weakly sputtered out. “Why..?”
As Toga walked towards her, she closed her umbrella and kneeled down next to her. The state she was in was terrible. She felt her grin fading, as she looked into Uraraka’s eyes, seeing how drained and dazed they were. Her pretty little auburn eyes once filled with glee and life seemed so tired and grey. There were a few rashes on her cute little face. She looked so powerless and beaten. She could feel her heart wrench, pain striking at it. She gently caressed Uraraka’s face with her thumb.
“Hey,” Toga smiled - trying something friendly and comforting, a tone Uraraka always used. “I’ll take you to my place. You trust me, right Ochako-Chan?” She said.
“I guess I have no o-other option,” She responded with a weak smile, that soon fell.
“Come on, get on my back.”
ーー
Once Toga reached her home, Uraraka had already fallen unconscious. She put Uraraka on her bed (It was maybe a bit squeaky but it was the best she could manage,) and laid the blanket on her. She might as well get her first aid kit out. Those skin-tight hero suits she always wears seems uncomfortable, but it would be weird to have someone undress you while you sleep!
She went over to her closet to pick out some clothes Uraraka could change into later. They were about the same height so she assumed that her clothes could manage. At the bottom of the closet, there laid her first aid kit. There were some bandages gone, but she had at least a few rolls left.
She hummed a tune as she took out some q-tips, cleansing wipes, gauzes and bandages. It was a shame that she only had little left. Although, the basic ones were cheap.
After treating wounds the best as she could, she hummed in satisfaction. Wait, did Uraraka have her phone with her? She thought.
She checked Uraraka’s belt-hip thing and there was a hidden pocket. Several, actually. Some included bandages. Oh, well, she could’ve used that. Taking Uraraka’s phone, she plugged into a plug with a spare charger she had. 1%. How convenient. She couldn’t help but look at some of the messages that popped up. Most were worried or concerned messages. Her eye caught on one of the names. ‘Deku’. ‘I saw what happened on the news - Where are you? We’re all worried sick!’
Her stomach turned. She had a very high infatuation with him, but once those feelings turned for Uraraka and stayed that way, she could care less about him. Frankly, she was jealous of the close relationship they had. Being a hero wouldn’t be so bad if she could be wit her publicly, but she can’t turn back now.
She set her phone down onto the bedside table. She ripped a small piece of paper out of her notebook and wrote a small note on it and placed it on the pile of clothes that was also on the bedside table. Before exiting the room, she couldn’t help the urge to plant a small kiss on her forehead. So she did. She giggled out of the room like a fangirling schoolgirl.
------
Uraraka groggily woke up in a strange and unfamiliar place. Grey cracked walls, a few posters from the train station and in the streets covering some of the cracks. This wasn’t a hospital, but she was on a bed though. “Ugh…” Her body was aching. That wasn’t uncommon for the life of a hero, but this hurt more than usual fights. “Where..?” She took a good look around her surroundings, then realised, I’m in Toga’s house.
She jolted up, looking down at her clothing, realising she was still in her hero costume. She looked into her costume utility belt, looking for her phone pocket. Please don’t be destroyed, Please don’t be destroyed, Please don’t be destroyed… She repeated hopefully in her head. Her phone wasn’t there. Panic.
She looked around her surroundings, finding her boots, her helmet and her wrist tech were also taken off, her suit rolled up with bandages covering some wounds. She looked at her leg and found a small untreated cut, though. It seemed new.
She glanced over to her left to a bedside table, to be greeted with her charging phone and a neat stack of clothes with a note on it. The note read,
‘Rise and shine, Ochako chan! I’ve left some clothes for you so you can change into them.
That costume looks uncomfortable!
P.S. I’m waiting in the other room
With all love, Himiko’.
She couldn’t help but feel warm and fuzzy inside after reading that note. It was nice and kind of her to be taking care of her. She was vulnerable and helpless, she could’ve easily taken advantage of that and outright killed her. But she didn’t.
She quickly looked for a bathroom to change clothes in, which was the next room, right to the left.
The clothes fit her fairly well, which was nice. A cute long-sleeved shirt (which Toga bought one size bigger, probably) and some shorts. While changing, she saw how her upper body was still untreated, which made sense. Everything still hurt, and bruises were forming now.
She went back into the bedroom to fold up her suit and organised her hero tech and everything. She took her phone and unplugged it. Aw, she even charged it. 51%. There was an explosion of messages from people she knew in love.
As she opened LINE, “Ochako-chan! You’re awake!” was heard. “Wait, Ochako-chan, now that you’re awake, can I treat your other injuries?”
“Huh, oh uh, sure!”
“Yay!” She went to grab her first aid kid, which was right there on the floor and sat on the bed. She patted the place next to her for Uraraka to sit.
As Toga began treating Uraraka’s injuries, she asked, “Hey, Toga? You know where we are?”
“Mm, yeah! But if I tell you, heroes are going to start swarming this place!” Toga giggled.
“I guess.” It was a part of their job, though. Taking down villains and all that, just what she was doing a few hours ago. “Say, why did you come to help me?”
She’s done this once before when Uraraka was caught off guard and outmatched. It didn’t happen often, but when it did, she was in for a most likely long fight. Though Toga did help, she was intimidating with her knife throwing, she didn’t outright kill them but knocked them unconscious for Uraraka to take them to the authorities.
“I was worried! Each time we meet is so much fun... I didn’t want to lose that.” Toga stopped treating her wounds and played with a stray strand of hair, eyeballing the floor. “Plus, you’re the only one who’s supposed to be the hero to my villain!~” She looked back at Uraraka, a grin on her features.
Uraraka could feel her cheeks redden. It was nice to be able to sit down and have a chat with her. For once they weren’t running around and moving in combat. “Pfft- I’m a hero that belongs to no one!” She folded her arms, snickering. “Ow ow ow-”
“Jeez! You’ve gotta be careful! Sure it’s been a few hours, but you’re still badly hurt!” Toga furrowed her brows, a small pout replacing her grin. “It’s just me and my cheap aid kit healing you.”
“Ahaha... Thanks, though,” Uraraka sighed. Maybe they would’ve been proper friends if things turned out different, in a better timeline. “Our little relationship is weird, isn’t it? A hero and a villain, hanging out with each other like this.”
“It’s not weird to me - well, sorta, I can see where you’re coming from,” Toga said, glancing up at the ceiling then at Uraraka. “But we are friends, right? Ever since that camp night?” She finished treating Uraraka’s wounds, now cleaning up the used up q tips and such cluttered around them.
“You thought we were friends from the camp incident?” Uraraka looked at her, an eyebrow raised.
“Yeah! I thought we were having a fun girls night out!”
What a strange perspective on the world.
“When is… the last time you had a girls night out? Do you think they’re like that?”
“Ooh… I mean, I met a couple o’ girls in the streets, we had some fun!” Toga lied down on the bed, resting her head on her hands. “Though, my reputation of being a villain got in the way…” She pouted. Uraraka furrowed her brows at her in confusion and worry - did she kill them? Did they run away?
“Don’t worry! I didn’t kiiillll them! Just took a teensy bitsy bit of their blood.”
“If you say so,” Uraraka’s brows unfurrowed, pausing so Toga could go on.
“But... I guess a few years back, hanging out with big sis Magne, and sometimes twice, at the hideout was the closest thing to real fun.” Her smile was back again though- it wasn’t mischievous or anything, but it seemed fond almost. Like flipping through old memories captured inside a scrapbook. “Painting each other’s nails, stealing stuff together, pulling pranks on sometimes Dabi and hoping not to be murdered, those were the good old times…” She sighed with a smile.
“Toga?”
“Yeeessss, my Ochako-Chan?” She said, amber meeting auburn.
“What if we.. went on a girls night out together? Just for one night. You could... Disguise yourself or something!” Uraraka said with a smile that got bigger and bigger.
Toga gasped, eyes sparkly and wide like some anime. She sat up, her hands clasping together. “You really mean it?!” She said, her fingers now laced together.
“I mean, yeah! I’ve got some money from my hero work, even if it isn’t a lot, I’m pretty sure we can do stuff together!”
“Ochako-Chan... Are you sure you aren’t asking me out for a daaattteee?” Toga lifted a brow up, her grin full of mischief only intensifying from usual. Her grin could definitely rival the Cheshire Cat.
Even if Toga was only teasing Uraraka, her face exploded with red. “No, no no- I’m not--”
“You know there’s a price on me, I don’t come for free!” She teased further. Oh, how cute Uraraka looked! She was just curling up into a ball, covering her cherry-red face. She couldn’t help but giggle- it was so cute! “Sorry, sorry, but, I’m free whenever!”
Uraraka let go of her hands from her face to pull up her phone to most likely check her calendar. “Umm… I’m free.. next week Friday from six PM?” Uraraka looked over at the other, her cheeks still dusted with red.
“Free then too!~” Toga responded.
“Gah- I should really get going...” Uraraka eyed at the time - which was about five-forty.
Toga visibly deflated, since her Ochako-Chan was going, but they were going to have a date next week! So, with a smile (and blush) back on her face, she said, “Yeah - right. All your friends are probably really worried about you.”
“Oh yeah!” She perked up. “You can keep the clothes. Just give it back to me on our date, ‘kay?” She said, throwing her a small wink.
What does that wink mean What does that wink mean-- waitshesactuallycallingitadate--
“O-Okay!” She didn’t mean to stutter that - and her face was suddenly heating up again. Today was a whole mess of injuries and blushing.
“I’ll walk you out of here. Sort of dangerous, you know?” Toga stood up from her position on the bed. “Also, what should we do about your hero costume? I don’t think I have a bag big enough for all of that…” She said pointing down at the suit.
“Oh, no worries, I keep in a foldable bag.” Uraraka crouched down, sorting through the pockets of her utility belt. “There!” She pulled out a neatly folded navy plastic bag. Once she unfolded it, there were so many wrinkles. She opened it up, putting in her suit and tech, Toga helping her as well.
They made their way to through the neighbourhood, delightful chatter and planning about their upcoming night out filling the eerie silence of the rundown neighbourhood.
Once Toga knew that Uraraka would be safe on her own without worrying, she waved her off. She was like a mother. Now, to see if those villains got arrested.
——-
As Uraraka sat on the train, answering messages from her parents and friends, her mind couldn’t help but wander back to the golden-haired girl. She was an interesting girl— a villain who was off in the head. Though, she was a villain she met frequently on her hero days.
She was usually the one that found her during her patrols at night, every few four to five months. She would usually sneak up on her and call her by her first name. Why was Toga so comfortable with her?
And why was she, herself, so comfortable around Toga? Wasn’t she a villain? The very thing she’s opposing?
If so, why did she want to brush stray strands of hair out of her face? Why did she want to caress through her hair with her fingers? Why did everything feel so warm and comforting each time she would giggle?
Why was the idea of going on a date with her feel so…
She snapped out of her thoughts, realizing this was the last stop.
She couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Did she..?
Oh, lord, she did, didn’t she.
Ah.
Heck.
The thoughts only worsened from that point.
The thoughts of Toga and her amber eyes with cat-like irises, her voice, her smile. It was all so obvious. Everything about her - she was drawn to it like a moth to a lamp.
Once she reached her house, she saw a couple of people there-- two to be exact. As she was walking closer their faces became clearer - messy green hair and arms sticking out - Deku and Tsuyu!
“Ochako!” Tsuyu called out, pointing at Uraraka.
“Uraraka! We were worried sick!”
“Deku? Asui?” Uraraka quickened her pace, going towards them with her eyebrows knitted. “How long were you two waiting for me?” She said once she was close enough.
They were apparently waiting for twenty minutes. Then, they proceeded to, understandably, bombard her with questions about how she was feeling, where she was and how she got home. Though she did have to lie for a few of the questions- she didn’t want to rat out Toga. Some hero she was, huh?
It would be a long day tomorrow.
------
Once Friday finally rolled forth, it was only then that she realised she didn’t have Toga’s number. Hopefully, Toga will show up in front of the train station as they planned?
Uraraka didn’t want to wear anything too flashy since that would draw attention to themselves - should she go with a skirt or jeans? Casual or a bit more formal? Flipping through her clothes, she didn’t know what to choose - It was just a fun girls night out. Though it was just the two of them. The other girl being someone she had a newfound crush on.
“Ugh….” She facepalmed her now heated up face. “It’s casual. It’s normal. Just pick something out.” She told herself, now determined to pick out some clothes. Only to realize her fashion sense was abysmal. “On second thought… maybe I could ask the girls?”
She picked up her phone, going into the girl’s group chat. Would they catch on? Knowing them, Mina probably would. Was this too risky? Was she overthinking this?
“Heyy
I need help picking out a type of clothes
Baggy or some other stuff” She typed in, waiting for a few minutes for a response.
The first to respond was Mina, saying, “What’s the special occasion?” With several eyes emojis.
“Meeting up with a friend in the first time in forever” This lie should do, right?
“riiiggghhttt” Well, of course, Mina would be sceptical. She probably was thinking she was going out with someone, which was… reasonable. She wasn’t great at lying.
After a few inputs from Mina, she also received a few messages from Jirou, talking about adding some purple into it. Very on brand of Jirou.
In the end, with the girl’s help, she was finally able to pick out some clothes— elbow-length sleeved shirt underneath with a light pink hoodie on top. She didn’t know how to implement purple into her overall look so... she managed to pick out some purple socks. Did they ruin the aesthetic? She didn’t know. The girls agreed on Jeans.
That looked.. fairly nice.
Putting in her wallet and phone inside her bag, she walked out, baffled that she spent thirty minutes thinking about her clothes.
Once Uraraka made her way out of the train station - she struggled to find Toga. She was asking a literal criminal shapeshifter out.
As she was scanning the crowd, she noticed someone in the crowd- waving her hand while she was running at her. She looked different. Not in the bad sense, though! Her hair was tied into a low and loose ponytail that hanged on her left shoulder, a mask and fake glasses. She was really cute with a ponytail, actually. “Ochako-Chan! I found you!” The other said, taking her hands into hers.
Uraraka laughed - she didn’t know why, but she did. “Yeah, you did!” Everything felt so giddy. “Kinda got worried that you bailed on me.”
“What! I would never!” She exclaimed, pouting. “I should be saying that!”
As they were in a public train station, it would be quite obvious that the people walking by them would glare or whisper about them. She’s already heard a few ‘Isn’t that a pro?’ or ‘Is that Uravity?’.
“Now shh! Remember not drawing attention to ourselves?” She shushed the other, putting a finger to her lips.
“Oh! Right.” She whisper-yelled, grinning.
“Now come on, let’s have a girls night out!” She said, grabbing her hand and leading her out of the train station.
Every soft giddy giggle, every brush of hands, every compliment made a spark go off in her. A bottle of butterflies screwing loose filling her stomach. The same nervousness of feeling like a high school girl uselessly in love again. It felt so right like this was how things were meant to be, yet it felt so wrong and off.
Who knew this night would end up with the two of them in Uraraka’s small apartment drinking bubble tea in their makeshift pillow fort laughing at bad rom coms?
“Hey, Himiko?”
One night. She was already calling her by her first name.
“Yeah?” She looked over at her, eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“Do you… like like me?”
There was a pause between the two of them.
“Yeah,” Toga’s voice was calm and relaxed - a tone she doesn’t hear often. “I do.” The smile was fond, nothing manic about it, nothing threatening. Just gentle love and passion from a girl to another girl.
What a cliche. Uraraka couldn’t suppress her smile or her laughter, it was just so heartwarming. It made her day - it felt as if this was all she ever wanted.
“I like you too, Himiko.” Is a sentence she’d never thought she would say a few years ago. It overflowed from her mouth, the word love dancing on the tip of her tongue. She was an adult, but she was acting like her old high school self.
Their hands interlocked, pressing their delicate lips together, closing the space between.
It was all Toga could ever want. She’s wanted this for years, and now it was finally happening - no amount of blood could beat the happiness and glee she was feeling.
Who knows how this relationship would work? A hero and a villain. One was bound to fall to the other side or get ratted out by the media.
But now? This is what mattered.
