Work Text:

It was a warm day, and the walls of the Wright Anything Agency were vibrating with noise. Two attorneys were currently seated, the orange-haired girl laying lopsidedly on the couch as she gestured grandly to her co-worker. It was a slow day, but it certainly wasn't a quiet one. The agency was empty aside from the two, which had resulted in a sequence of events that led to Athena lecturing Apollo on how to ask out his crush.

Apollo adamantly refuted the idea that he were feeling anything for a certain rocking prosecutor, voice raising as he attempted to explain how they were barely even friends. But Athena could see through him - it wasn't hard to. He flushed whenever Klavier was around, and the emotions in his voice would always fluctuate more than usual whilst in the presence of the prosecutor. Apollo was very obviously crushing on the man, and Athena only wanted to help. - Help, with emphasis on the invisible quotations.

Athena and Apollo differed in one thing; their approach. Athena was one to rush ahead, to let adrenaline take over as she burst into her tasks like there was no tomorrow. However, Apollo was hesitant and waited, like a cat stalking their prey, never once moving forward without knowing the possible outcome. Athena had believed that Apollo should tell Klavier about how he truly felt, as she was certain that the other man returned his feelings - she was certain that everyone could see it. Klavier would always treat Apollo differently, with subtle movements and reassurances in the disguise of teasing. But Apollo was not everyone, and much to the dismay of whoever had the pleasure of being in the same room as the two, Apollo would continue to deny that anything was there.

But as Athena feverently tried to affirm Apollo, he threw a curveball that stopped Athena in her tracks.
"How can you act like an expert on my relationships, when you're too scared to ask out Juniper on your own!"

Athena froze at the mention of Juniper's name. Juniper Woods, her childhood friend. The one who had been there for her since a young age, and who still remained her friend even after Athena's disappearance. Juniper Woods, who smiled as warm as the sun, the light of Athena's life. Juniper held Athena down like gravity, keeping her from being self-destructive. Athena couldn't deny the facts - she was hopelessly in love with the girl. The girl who most likely doesn't reciprocate her feelings.

Athena's smile fell, and she looked down at her hands, fidgeting. "Apollo...you know I can't."
"And why is that?" He retorted.
"She very clearly doesn't return my feelings, she's...she's in love with you, and you know that!"
Apollo glanced to the side, and sighed. He was aware of Juniper's crush on him, and he couldn't find it within himself to tell the poor girl. But part of that was why he encouraged Athena to step up. Because he knew Athena could provide Juniper the love and relationship that she needed, that she deserved. Apollo knew Athena would treat Juniper as if she were her lifeline, and would give her the world.

Apollo stood up from his desk, disrupting old papers and food packaging that fell to the floor. He sat on the other side of the couch, and looked at Athena with a serious expression.
"Listen, 'Thena...I know you, and I know that you would treat Juniper better than anyone. I've talked to her before, and I wouldn't say it's out of the question. She does care about you very much Athena, and I think that you should at least try. After all, it's not like you to be afraid - that's my job!"
Athena looked up at him with a sad smile, and spoke softly.
"Do you really mean it?"
Apollo held up his bracelet and smiled, determination shining through his dark eyes. "Of course!"
Athena brightened up at that, and the two sat comfortably in silence for a few moments.

But an idea would strike Athena, like thunder in a storm. She looked up at Apollo with an expression in her eyes that had quite honestly frightened the man, and he felt as though he were about to be roped into a bad decision.
"Hey, Apollo?"
"...I'm scared to ask. What?"
"What if we made a promise? What if we promised that one day, we will both confess our feelings? We wont be able to chicken out that way!"
"I-I do not have any feelings for Prosecutor Gavin!" Apollo stammered, but Athena fixed him with a hot glare. "Alright, Okay. I promise."

Athena grinned brightly, the usual warmth and energy returning to her movements. She held out her hand to Apollo. "Shake on it?"
Apollo grabbed Athena's hand firmly, and nodded.
"When do we get started?"

A week had passed since the two attorneys had made their promise. It was another bright day, the sky illuminated a deep blue, with not a cloud in sight. A light breeze billowed through the air, relaxing and calming. The two attorneys had one goal in their mind, and they were set on it.

Apollo was waiting outside of the large doors of the courthouse, a large bouquet of red and purple flowers held in his arms. He wore his blazing red jacket over his arms, and his suit was sparkling. He bit his lip nervously, and looked in the reflection of a opaque window to check his appearance once, twice, three times, making sure his spikes were perfect. He wasn't one for open displays of affection, but Athena had assured him that Klavier would love it.

Apollo nervously glanced at his phone - he had sent Klavier a message asking him to meet outside the courthouse, explaining that he had something important to say. Klavier had replied near instantly, and mentioned how he were just wrapping up a trial, and he'd be out soon. Apollo felt the air leave him, and his nerves were set alight. There was no backing out, he had promised Athena.

Apollo was looking away when the wooden doors of the courthouse creaked open, and the voice of the prosecutor caught him off guard.
"Herr Forehead, what's the occ-" Klavier stopped in his tracks when his eyes laid on the attorney. Apollo was blushing as bright as a fire, his face as red as his suit. Klavier was caught off guard by Apollo's outfit, and he felt the air leave his body when he caught glimpse of the flowers that the smaller man held.

Klavier opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. Apollo, sensing that it was now or never, hesitantly held out the flowers to him.
"For you." He spoke with a confidence he didn't know he had, steeling his nerves and looking the prosecutor in the eyes. "For a while now, I've...had feelings for you. I know I'm not famous, or anything special, especially compared to you, but...I just want to let you know." Apollo shifted his eyes away at the last part, and spoke softly, softer than he ever had before.
"I love you."

Athena was waiting within a cafe tucked in the corner of the town. It wasn't known to many people, which made it an ideal place for what she planned. She hadn't heard back from Apollo for a few minutes, and wondered if he had met with Klavier already. She hoped with her whole heart that everything went okay, but Athena knew she had no reason to worry for her co-worker.
But that was not what she was here for. With a small box of chocolates in her arms, Athena waited patiently for Juniper to arrive. She had Juniper if she could drop by a caf for a chat, and Juniper happily replied that she was free to.

Athena was moving her leg up and down absentmindedly, and she felt her heart stop as the door to the cafe opened. Juniper gracefully walked inside, looking as beautiful as ever. Juniper noticed Athena sitting in the corner, and smiled sweetly as she made her way across to her. Athena felt her heart stop, either in fear or awe, as Juniper sat down across from her. Juniper greeted her warmly, and noticed the box in Athena's arms.
"Is there a reason you wanted to see me?...Are you looking for advice?"
"Well, yes, if you don't mind. May I talk to you?" Athena replied nervously. Juniper gave her a reassuring smile, but worry shone through her eyes.

Breathing in, Athena spoke, eyes closed.
"There's a girl I like - I really like. She makes me so happy, and makes me feel like I could take on the world. I want to tell her how I feel, but I'm worried that she won't return my feelings."
"'Thena...I'm sure they would return your feelings," Juniper began, speaking slowly. "You're one of the sweetest, most fun people I know. I'm sure whoever she is would be blessed to have you as her girlfriend."
Athena nodded, her nerves bubbling up in her throat.
"If I may ask...what does she look like? Juniper asked.

It was time, Athena knew. It was time to tell Juniper. Thinking back to that day in the office, talking to Apollo and making a promise with him, she spoke.
"Well, she has long brown-grey hair which is tied, and she wears a large sunhat, which gives her such a sweet appearance. Her eyes are like gems, like an ocean of brown that I could find myself swimming in for hours."
Athena watched as Juniper's eyes widened, and she continued.
"She has the sweetest laugh, and a smile that lightens any room. She carries sunflowers with her, which is fitting, as she is the light of my life."

Athena looked directly at the woman across from her, and asked. She asked what she had dreamed of saying for many years.
"Junie...would you go out with me?"

Juniper and Athena were seated next to each other, Juniper's large sun hat discarded as she lay her head on the lawyer's shoulder. They drank a sweet drink together, and sat in silence. Many words had been exchanged between them, declarations of love and kindness. The two now rested, their hands intertwined.
As they sat, basking in the other's presence, Athena's phone dinged with a single text message. Upon opening, Athena smiled and showed Juniper a photo, and the two burst into giggles. The photo was a picture of two men - Apollo and Klavier, with Klavier pressing a kiss to Apollo's forehead.

As the day wore on, Athena and Apollo both rested, for they knew, that things would only get better from here. Their promise to each other was fulfilled, and they both spent the day with their new partners.
