Chapter Text
Tanjiro yawned, rolling out of bed, smacking Kyojuro’s side in the process.
“Come on, Tanjiro. You need to get up. We are going to brunch, remember?”
Tanjiro pouted.
“Can’t we stay in bed? I’m tired.”
Kyojuro frowned back, pinching and pulling the huge shirt loosely put around his shoulders. It had a big yam on it. Tanjiro bought it for Kyojuro as a joke, but for some reason, he always ended up being the one to wear it to bed.
Kyojuro picked him up by the shoulders like a kitten.
“Come now, Tanjiro. We need to get going.”
His head sunk to the side. He was getting too used to staying up late as a college student.
“Alright, alright. It’s just Mr. Tengen and Tomioka, right?”
“You don’t have to call them ‘Mr.’ anymore, they’re not your teachers.”
“I know that.”
“And plus, this is the first time you will be seeing them with me. It’s very important.”
Tanjiro wrapped his arms around his lover. It was a big embrace, full and warm with love.
“I know. I’m just waking up still.”
Kyojuro rubbed his head.
“Good, let’s get going, then.”
“Uh-huh.”
The place Uzui picked out was a rather hip one, but Kyojuro expected nothing less. Probably expensive, too, if Kyojuro knew better. Uzui saw the bright hair and waved him over.
“Kyojuro! Kyojuro! Over here!”
Kyojuro chuckled.
“Yes, I saw you when I walked in.”
Kyojuro walked over with Tanjiro to his side. Uzui was sitting at the table with a couple of appetizers. Giyuu was sipping on a water absentmindedly. Uzui’s expression dropped.
“That’s your boyfriend? The one you went on for ages about?”
Giyuu blinked a couple times.
“He’s grown.”
Kyojuro crossed his arms.
“Yes, is there a problem?”
Uzui pointed at him.
“Yeah, he’s your student.”
Tanjiro scratched his cheek, embarrassed.
“I’m nineteen. I’m a sophomore in college you know.”
Uzui frowned, this time. Giving up, he groaned, shoving his face into his hand.
“Oh god, I’m old. Whatever, I’m old. Sit down.”
Giyuu was scrolling through on his phone.
“Oh, Shinobu and Mitsuri are getting married.”
Kyojuro beamed a smile.
“Ah! Very good! I hope to be hearing from them soon!”
Giyuu smiled very lightly. That expression, too, was something Kyojuro cherished.
The two of them sat down. Uzui buried himself in the menu, tuning them out to figure out what to order. Uzui didn’t care. Kyojuro knew that. People were more accepting than you would normally think. It just took a year or two for most.
It felt weird to be sitting here like this. It felt refreshing to be sitting here like this.
Just going to brunch with friends and his boyfriend. Nothing more, nothing less. They were just partners now, there was no more meaning to it than that. They lived together, plus one—His brother.
But soon, Senjuro would be out of the house, too, and it would just be them.
Just the two of them.
Many more on Christmas.
A couple more to watch TV.
But in the end, just the two of them.
Simple, as Kyojuro always wanted it.
His memories—He cherished them.
But there was nothing that he cherished more than the pleasant smile on Tanjiro’s face.
