Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Summary:

It's a bit small, but it's pretty important

Chapter Text

Hera hated this. Being under the thumb of the Empire was terrible, but being under their “employ” was worse. She was basically an Empirical taxi-driver at this point.

Landing on Mandalore was incredibly awkward, given the number of times Hera had played chicken with the Death Watch mortars that fired at them, just knowing that Maul was growling between her and his apprentice. Their landing was fine once they got under the mortar fire though, making sure to leave their ship near the 2nd Ground Legion’s camp.

Upon landing on the surface and stepping out of the ship, Hera’s foot met snow and a chill spiked through her spine. Oblitus seemed to notice her chill, offering his cloak to her. Hera scowled but accepted it with a muttered thanks. “Why did we land here? Shouldn’t you want to be backing up your killers on the frontline?” Hera asked, disregarding Oblitus next to her, looking at Maul a few steps ahead of the young adults.

Maul huffed, a cold steam escaping his nose. “I’m exactly where I need to be. Follow quietly and maybe you’ll live to see why it is we are here.”

Oblitus grabbed Hera’s arm gently, leading her behind himself and Maul as they trecked deeper into the snowscape. Without Hera noticing, a building of cold stone appeared on the horizon, armed guards quickly focusing on the group. Maul, almost lazily, grabbed is sabre, thrusting it into the air, blades sizzling against the falling snow. Hera watched in angered awe as the guards lowered their weapons, a grand door opening in front of them.

The trio practically strolled in, even as the guards inside surrounded them, looking as if they were itching for a fight. “Stand down!” A woman ordered from behind the guards. “Don’t you know the killer of Vizla when you see him?!”

The group surrounding the Sith and their hostage stood down as ordered, even bowing before Maul. Hera whispered to Oblitus next to her. “I feel like I’m missing something.”

Oblitus whispered back, eyes not moving from the scene before him. “He killed the Death Watch’s old leader, which made him leader until he recognized Vader as his Master. Death Watch is split up a bit. This clan, Wren, is one of the clans that still recognize Maul as their leader. We’re here to gather our supporting clans before we go out to help the 2nd Legion.”

Hera looked back, not liking where this was going, watching as the leader of Clan Wren brought her small daughter to Maul for his blessing.
