Chapter Text
The wind twirled around him, as Revali pressed himself closer to Medoh’s neck, the city soaring past in a flurry of colors and shapes. His grip on the bird's feathers only forced it faster as it dove past a partly destroyed guardian that had crashed into a nearby building. Construction workers waved up at him as he flew past, but he paid them no mind. He was late, he was going to make them all late. He pressed his legs tighter to the bird's body as it obeyed, trying to pick up speed. Releasing his grip on Medoh’s neck feathers, he raised his hands as the updraft crashed into them throwing them high into the air. The bow rattled against the quiver on his back as the two of them dove back down, their speed increasing. His right hand went to the scepter that was tied to his side, he couldn’t have it get damaged again.
“Come on, come on.” Revali said as the bird tried to pick up speed, but there was only so fast that he could go. He could see it, he could see the castle it wasn’t as far away as he thought. Medoh pulled up flying over the high towers before turning and landing on Zelda’s stone balcony. The princess flew out of her bedroom running over to the royal guardsman snatching the scepter from his hand once he untied it.
“Oh god, we are so late!” Zelda shouted as she rushed back into the room as Link glanced at his princess for a few moments.
“You are the princess, soon-to be queen, you are never late.” Link stated as Zelda looked at herself in the mirror as Revali glanced at his boyfriend for a few moments.
“Do you want the other half?” Revali asks as Zelda looks up at him, her white and gold dress flowing around her body. The tiara on her head was barely held there, as she didn’t need any pins to hold it in today. It would be replaced by a crown soon anyways.
“I… I don’t think I can do this.” Zelda whispered.
“Do the ceremony or?”
“The ceremony isn’t a big deal, we’ve been preparing for that for almost a month. I’ve got everything memorized for that, it's the other half I’m concerned about.” Zelda spun the scepter in her hands as she thought, her eyes dancing over the golden artifact encrusted with beautiful jewels. Her fingers dug into the item before she turned to Revali and held out her hand. The archer reached into the uniform, digging out the small velvet box before handing it to the princess. Zelda gripped the box for a moment before opening it and staring down at the white diamond, surrounded by the sapphire gems. The ring was beautiful as Zelda had designed it to be and she just hoped that she had it sized correctly. Closing the box, she released a breath before tucking the box into the secret pocket she had sown into the dress.
“You know she’ll say yes.” Link said as he smiled, getting the princess to glance at her personal knight.
“I know, it’s just nerve racking you know.”
“Just breath, everything will work out.” Link reassured as Zelda took a deep breath and nodded. She needed to relax, she was overthinking again.
“Link, can you go make sure that the guards are ready for us to head down?” Zelda asked as Link bowed to the princess before he turned leaving the room. The door shut behind him as Zelda ripped open the top drawer of her makeup desk and tossed a small velvet box to Revali who easily caught it.
“The other half will be dropped off after the ceremony, a servant will bring it up to my room. Don’t overthink it.” Zelda smiled as Revali rubbed at the back of his neck.
“Just like you aren’t overthinking it.” Revali joked as the princess sent him a glare but no anger came with it.
“There’s a difference.” Zelda started, “You’re doing it in a private setting. I’m doing mine during the ceremony.” Zelda admitted as Revali smirked tucking the ring box away in a pocket.
“Still don’t know why.”
“It’s the most important day of my life, and I’d like my partner beside me.” Zelda beamed at the thought as Revali nodded. He understood, Zelda had been getting this all set up for months. They walked through each step of it, almost every day making sure it all flowed. Zelda recited her speech to Urbosa more than her speech to the people that she would address after the ceremony. God, he could see as she paced now how nervous she was. He was nervous as well, but he knew that by the end of the night there would be two engaged couples.
“Zelda?” Link asked as he poked his head back in. “We are ready, and we shouldn’t make them wait any longer.” Zelda nodded as she took a deep breath before picking up the top of her dress. Revali moved to her side as she hooked her arm into his and Link held the door open allowing the two out. He could feel the princess’s grip tightening on his arm as Link shut the door behind him.
“Take a deep breath.” Revali whispers as she nods, letting out a ragged breath. “Relax it’ll be okay.” Revali reassured.
“Maybe we can postpone it.” Link cast Zelda a concerned look before shaking his head.
“It’s time and you know it.” Zelda took another deep breath, as she saw the guards lining the steps down into the throne room. Giving a small nod, Link picks up his pace before stopping at the top of the steps and clearing his throat.
“Presenting Princess Zelda.” Link shouts. A roar of trumpets echo from below and the guards pull forward their sabers raising them high enough for the group to pass underneath. They slowed their pace as Zelda held herself up straighter, camera’s turning towards her as they stopped at the top of the stairs. Link offered his hand to her as she was traded off to her knight, and he guided her down the stairs. Revali watched as the two reached the bottom and he quickly descended the steps, slipping behind the line of guards with ease. Teba smiled at him from the other side of the throne room, his loftwing towering just behind him. The bird’s gold royal armor shines in the light of the torches that line the grand hall. Medoh chirped as he slid in from a back entrance before Revali quieted the bird as it gave a soft hum in response. The bird’s own golden armor glittered against the knights fabric gear.
“Today, is the day that we have been waiting for 25 years for. Today King Rhoam steps down and lets the next generation take over in his place. Today is the crowning of Princess Zelda.” A roar escapes the gathered crowd as Revali casts his glance over the royals that are closest to the throne.
Mipha stands beside her father, a towering man with black hair and harsh eyes. His ceremonial armor is decorated with silver markings, and black fabrics. Red flares of color accent the shoulder pads and take away the almost yellow eyes the man has. Beside the Zora King stands a red haired man, who looks eerily similar to Mipha. His red hair held a silver pendant with a blue sapphire in it, and his eyes were almost copper coloring. His attire was bright red with silver ornaments along the shoulders that wrap around his neck. A white ascot popped between the silver ornaments and red attire, catching Revali’s eye. The man himself stood nearly twice the size of Mipha but still smaller than his father. Revali could only assume this was prince Sidon.
Urbosa gives the guard a small smirk before Revali’s eyes return to the ceremony that they practiced time and time again. Each word was already ingrained in his memory and Revali knew he might never be rid of them. His attention returned to the Gerudo who stood tall in her traditional warrior outfit. Her skirt was a pastel blue with golden stitching rushing through the ends and red beads weaved into different designs. A gold and red sash held the skirt up and a golden belt rushed underneath the sash before the gold clasp glowed against the red and blue skirt. The woman’s stomach revealed something that most Gerudo flaunted, due to their extremely fit lifestyle. A multicolored top feathered out into gold casings, holding it in place as it wrapped around her body before snaking up around her shoulders with copper inlays. Three golden rings were wrapped around her neck, a symbol of status. A thing that the Gerudo tried to hammer into him, so he would remember when Urbosa’s parents arrived. Urobsa caught his eye again before winking and giving him a small kiss, which Revali quickly shifted his attention again to the ceremony in front of him.
“Do you accept the responsibility of ruling over all of Hyrule, as it’s queen?” The priest asked as Zelda took a deep breath.
“I accept the responsibility of being Hyrule’s queen.” Zelda stated as the priest nodded.
“May I say something as well?” Zelda questioned as the priest blinked at her for a few moments.
“Certainly.” The priest answered as Zelda turned to address the crowd behind her.
“I, Zelda, the soon to be queen of Hyrule am not the only protector of this kingdom. At my side, I will have princess Mipha, champion of the Zora. Revali and Teba the champions of the Rito, Daruk the champion of the Goron. Link the champion of Hyrule and the wielder of the master sword. And finally Urbosa, the champion of the Gerudo. Together we will guide and protect over not just Hyrule, but all of our people. My champions may you join me?” Zelda asked as Revali stepped forward as the others started to gather in front of the princess, each kneeling down. “My champions, we wish to thank you for all that you did to stop the dark magic that broke through the seal over a year ago.” Applause roared from the crowd as Revali glanced up at Zelda who was biting her lip waiting for the crowd to die down.
“Now, then champions rise to your feet.” The group did as they were told. “On this day, I have one final thing to say before we finish the ceremony.” Zelda said as she moved forward the white and gold dress shimmering with the movement. She stopped in front of Urbosa as the Gerudo gave her girlfriend a confused look. Link stepped forward offering his hand to the princess as she gathered some of the dress and brushed it aside before getting down on her knee. Pulling the velvet box from under the layers of dress and opened it up, holding it up to the Gerudo. Urbosa stared at the box her eyes wide as her mouth fell open, as Zelda smiled at her girlfriend. “Urbosa, daughter of the Gerudo chief, Champion of the Sand People, tamer of lightning. Will you marry me?” The room sat in silence, all eyes and cameras were fixed on the two as Zelda waited for a response.
“You…” Urbosa started the words dying on her tongue and Zelda’s face faltered for a moment. “Of course I will.” Urbosa said as she rushed forward to kiss the princess as the crowd roared around them, hooting and hollering sounding through the air. The two broke apart as Zelda slipped the ring on her fiancés finger, the jewels almost glowing.
“A wondrous moment my princess, but we should proceed with the ceremony.” The priest said as Zelda nodded as she released Urbosa as the champions returned to their places around the room. Revali smiled as his eyes danced over to Link where he helped Zelda to her feet, and back up to her place in front of the priest. The ring box in his pocket felt heavy, but it didn’t stop his heart from racing as the ceremony continued on. His thoughts ran through his own proposal, he just hoped everything worked out. His fear running rampant through his head as he tried to not think about it going wrong.
“I present to you, Zelda,” Revali’s eyes snapped up as Zelda’s tiara was replaced with the golden and silver crown, “The Queen of Hyrule!” The shouts were deafening and if Revali had his mind in the right place he would be yelling with them. Yet his mind wandered back towards his proposal and the fear that the other half of the gift won’t arrive on time.
Zelda was being escorted from the room, her carriage awaiting her for the tour around the city. Revali slipped behind the group of people, as he quickly ascended the stairs back towards the Queen’s room. That was going to take some getting used to. Getting into the room, he started pacing his attention snapping to the empty bed, he had to be rational about this. It wouldn’t be here right when the ceremony ended, of course not. He knew this, but he kept worrying as he muttered under his breath the concern etching his features.
“Dude?” Teba asked as he walked in a box in his arms. “Chill, it’ll be fine.” He whispered as Revali took a deep breath, knowing Link is with Zelda in the carriage. “You’re panicking over nothing. Also do you know I had to pay off that girl to grab the box from her.” Teba said as Revali chuckled. He knew Teba was trying to lighten the mood as best he could.
“Is it okay?”
“Yeah, the little shit tried to bite me.” Teba said as he set down the box and opened the hole ridden lid. The black and white wolfdog pops his head out, a small growl escaping his mouth. Teba takes a step back as Revali moves forward as the little dog’s tail begins to wag a small yip makes the Rito smile. Scooping up the puppy, he holds it tight as the dog licks at his hands.
“It’s a wolfdog right? I thought those were illegal.”
“He’s a Hebra Mountain wolfdog. He’s not actually a wolf, but he looks like one. Zelda and I did a lot of research.” Revali states as the little dog starts biting at his fingers. Teba nods as he reaches into the uniform pocket, pulling forward a leather collar with a silver dog tag with the name Twilight engraved into it. Revali takes a deep breath, grabbing the collar from Teba before digging out the ring box and pulling the ring out. Sliding the ring on the dog tag he lets the silver metal sit for a few moments before he clasps the collar on the puppy. The three deep green gems almost glow against the dog's dark fur.
“Looking good buddy.” Teba smiled as a knock came from the door, before it swung open and Link walked into the room. The two Rito stared at the knight for a few moments as the three were silent. “What are you doing here?” Teba asked as he quickly slid in front of Revali.
“I was dismissed. What’s going on?” Link questioned as he stepped forward.
“Teba, leave.” Revali ordered as the other Rito glanced at him. Giving a small nod, Teba slipped out of the room without another word shutting the door behind him. “I… I wanted to surprise you for your birthday tonight…” Revali muttered as he held the puppy tighter. Link took a slow step forward as the dog gave a small growl, as the knight smiled.
“He’s beautiful.” Link whispered as he stopped in front of Revali. This wasn’t supposed to happen, he had everything planned out down to every detail and now it was all thrown out the window. Time to wing it, he guessed.
“You wanted a wolf and since they were illegal, this was the next best thing.” Revali smiled as Link raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend.
“You okay?”
“Fine.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
“... I’m fine, I swear.”
“You know I don’t believe you.” Link said as Revali huffed before moving towards the bed and setting down the dog back in his box. Rubbing at his neck, Revali turned to continue his conversation with his boyfriend only to find him on one knee and a ring in his hand. Revali stopped his mind short circuiting, as he stared at the silver ring with a few deep blue stones pressed into it.
“I…”
“Revali, after everything. I wanted to ask you to marry me, but I didn’t expect to be doing it here.” Link admitted as he met the Rito’s eyes for a moment. Revali burst out laughing as Link’s face fell, but Revali quickly held up a hand, before grabbing Twilight.
“Here let’s trade, my ring for yours.” Revali said as he took the ring off of Twilight’s collar. Link’s eyes widened before he started laughing as well.
“I’m taking that as a yes then.”
“Yes, Link Dragmire, I will marry you. However, we are keeping my name.”
“We’ll figure it out later.” Link said as he rolled his eyes before exchanging their rings and slipping them on. Revali grabbed his fiance’s hand pulling him closer.
“Happy birthday, Link.”
