Lesson #14: Family is found

.
If anyone had asked Katsuki nearly two years ago if he thought he would find himself in the position he was now, he would balk.
He would’ve stared at them like they had grown a third goddamn head, and inquired if they probably found his secret journal—but then internally wished for it to be true.
But somehow here he was: surrounded by two of his rays of sunshine with a possible third on the way. He enjoyed basking in their light. Listening to the giggles. Studying the smile lines of Izuku’s eyes. Watching Natsuko make leaps and bounds in her development. His daughter was growing up faster than he thought. It was both fascinating and beautiful.
Katsuki hoped he would never have to give it up.
They were currently one week away from Izuku’s due date and the omega’s stomach was admittedly huge, in the most adorable way possible.
If only Katsuki could personally thank the pregnancy hormones because the Izuku had a healthy honey dew glow to him. His pretty curls were silkier and his scent was a perfect mixture of honey and caramel. It made him happy to see. They had a lot of fun and a lot of ups and downs on the way. Izuku was radiant as a cluster of suns while carrying his child. The small glow around him truly made Katsuki feel as though he was willing to do anything for the omega.
Even if the omega woke up in the middle of the night begging to go to McDonalds…fucking cravings.
“Kacchan,” Izuku whispered in the dead of night. Katsuki groaned slightly as a finger poked his cheek. “Kacchan. I’m hungry.”
The alpha peaked his eye open to the clock on the nightstand and resisted the sigh he wanted to let out. This was the fourth damn night in a row.
“Deku...it’s fucking three AM,” Katsuki drawled out. His voice was heavy with sleep.
He knew what Izuku was already going to ask for. If anyone had warned him being bonded to a pregnant Izuku meant feeling the intensity of hunger—specifically for fucking McGriddles—twenty four seven, he maybe would’ve hesitated a bit.
“I know, I’m sorry but I can’t sleep, my feet are killing me, and right now my stomach is growling up a storm. I feel hungrier than ever. All I can think about is the sausage egg and cheese McGriddle. Plus, the McDonalds near us finally opened up twenty four breakfast menu—”
And then somehow on cue, they could hear Natsuko start crying for them from the baby monitor.
Katsuki plopped his head down into his pillow.
By some twist of fate, his damn rays of sunshine were nocturnal.
The alpha took a deep breath in and shrugged off the remaining sleep in his system. He gradually lifted himself out of bed with a groan. Izuku followed suit, throwing his All Might pajama bottoms and an oversized dark green sleep shirt. Katsuki couldn’t resist smiling as the omega waddled all the way to Natsuko’s room.
“I thought we were doing self soothing,” Katsuki called out as he put on his grey sweat pants and black tank top.
He stood up while stretching his arms and pushed out a yawn. Then, he caught sight of Izuku, peaking around the corner with Natsuko in his arms with a guilty smile. Katsuki barked out a sharp laugh.
“Just this one night,” Izuku said sweetly. Natsuko was clinging to Izuku with a happy little smile and the child was very much wide awake. “She can come with us to McDonalds since we’re all up! Let’s make it a family trip.”
“Hi Papa,” Natsuko said with a small wave. “Hi Dada!”
“Hi, Nacchan,” Katsuki said with a hint of amusement. “You’re turning out to be a night owl like your papa here.”
“She also loves nuggies just like daddy, don’t you Nacchan?” Izuku said in a baby voice while nuzzling her nose. “C’mon, daddy! McDonalds, McDonalds, McDonalds—”
Katsuki tiredly looked at the two as Izuku successfully got Natsuko to chant ‘McDonalds’ with him. Her tiny voice babbled it mostly. But she happily mirrored Izuku’s overly enthusiastic energy. Katsuki took a good look at Izuku’s very pregnant belly, then to the smiling Natsuko. He cursed under his breath.
He was close to powerless against the image standing in front of him.
“Yeah. Okay, okay,” Katsuki muttered as he grabbed his black windbreaker. “Let’s go.”
Both Izuku and Natsuko yelled out, “Yay!”
The trio walked out to Katsuki’s orange sports car in the dark of night with giggles and laughter surrounding them.
Natsuko was babbling something at them. She was exercising the few words she finally had a grasp on while Katsuki buckled her tight in the car seat. The alpha felt himself filled to the brim with adoration as he helped Izuku in the car.
He playfully buckled Izuku in the car as well, even though he knew Izuku didn’t need the help. However, in the motion he briefly glanced down to see the omega was in his fuzzy bunny slippers.
“My feet hurt, give me a break,” Izuku muttered when he could see the mildly judgemental gaze. He wiggled his feet in the fuzzy slippers. “We’re only going to McDonalds and coming back. No one will see them.”
Katsuki shrugged and didn’t think much of it as he gave a small kiss on Izuku’s cheek. “You’re such a fucking nerd.”
Katsuki walked around to the otherside of the car while swinging the key ring around his finger. He whistled lightly with a small skip in his steps. He started up the car and looked at both of them with a smirk. They all seemed to be ready for a mini adventure.
They listened to the radio idly. Smooth jazzy and some classical music played from the night time stations. However, halfway there, Natsuko started kicking her small legs and pointing towards the stereo.
“Pon Pon, Papa!” She said in her tiny voice. “Pon Pon, pwease.”
“She wants the Pon Pon Pon song, Kacchan,” Izuku said. The omega reached forward and unlocked the glove department for the AUX cord. “I hope you’re ready to get your sing-along on.”
“Always that forking song,” Katsuki grunted.
He hated that goddamn song. Natsuko saw the music video once and fell straight in love with the crazy bright colors. While he glowered at the prospect, when he glanced in the back and saw those round puppy eyes he felt instantly eager to listen to it.
“Alright. Screw it. Pon Pon it is Nacchan.”
A tiny ‘yay’ erupted from the backseat and small claps.
Izuku pressed play on his phone and soon the stereo was blasting the upbeat tune. Izuku started clapping in sync with a giddy Natsuko. She was in the backseat singing a little ‘pon pon wei wei wei’. Katsuki started singing along as well, nodding his head in sync as he drove his car. He lightly tapped his hand against the steering wheel to the beat, silver moon engagement ring catching some light. Neither adult could control the smile on their faces listening to them all harmonize.
By the sixth cycle of the song, they pulled into the drive thru. Katsuki leaned over to ask Izuku what he wanted.
“How many McGriddles do you want, Deku?”
Izuku’s eyes lit up. “Give me nine—”
“—Nine?” Katsuki exclaimed in surprise. “Usually it’s four or six but nine?”
“Yes, Kacchan. I want nine.” Izuku gave him an unimpressed stare and frowned. “When you have a baby nearly breaking your back then maybe one day you will understand the need for copious amounts of McGriddles.”
Katsuki couldn’t control the snicker that slipped past his lips. “Alright, alright. You got me.”
He turned back to the bright blinding drive-thru and spoke into the microphone their orders. He could hear the stutter in the woman’s voice on the other side when he clarified that yes, they wanted nine McGriddles. He ordered a large pack of nuggets for him and Natsuko to share. They put on that god forsaken Pon Pon song on repeat once more as he pulled to the first window and paid.
But as they were waiting at the last window, for their giant order of fucking McGriddles, Izuku made a small hiss and grabbed for his stomach. Katsuki's eyes immediately darted down at that motion.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly when Izuku wrinkled his nose. Despite everything being light hearted, they were still on edge. Izuku’s miscarriage rate hadn’t changed. That 20% loomed over them like a dark thundercloud that hadn’t let out rain—but threatened to every day. Sometimes, they found themselves in Dr. Akamine’s office, needing assistance. Those days were the bad ones.
Izuku winced again and made a small grunt.
“Hey are you alright?” Katsuki asked carefully.
“Ye-Yeah, I think they’re just kicking—” Izuku started but stopped. He made another hiss and then leaned forward slightly.
“Izuku?” Katsuki’s eyes went wide and his heart started to speed up. The omega made a pained face and shifted in his seat.
“I-It hurts,” Izuku whispered with wide eyes. He made another small groan and another painful gasp. “Ah. I-It’s hurting a lot, Kacchan—I-I think we should call Dr. Akamine. I feel like I’m going to pop open.”
“Shit, okay,” Katsuki said in a rush.
He pulled his phone out and quickly dialed the doctor’s personal number. His eyes nervously darted to the small dashboard clock at the time. He prayed to whatever the fuck was up there that the man would answer.
But Katsuki winced when the phone rang three times without an answer. He cursed as his hands started shaking and he dialed again. This time there was an answer.
Dr. Akamine’s voice was groggy on the other end. “Mr. Bakugou, what—why are you even at playing that song—”
“—We think something is wrong,” Katsuki hissed and Izuku cried out in pain again in the background. Red eyes widened when Izuku's hands started trembling while touching his stomach. “H-He’s in pain. Like pain, pain—he’s trembling.”
“It feels like something is trying to push,” Izuku yelled. “Pushing very, very hard.”
“Oh no,” Dr. Akamine said on the other line. Katsuki could hear intense footsteps, rustling and the sound of keys jingling. “Get to the hospital now. I think Izuku is going into labor or starting to. We might have to do the c-section earlier than expected. I’ll be there in five minutes.”
And then the line went dead at the same time Izuku let out another yell. Katsuki’s nerves lit on fire when he realized what was happening—or what was going to happen.
Shit. The baby was possibly on the way. Their second child was possibly on the way and Izuku was in a lot of pain.
Katsuki hastily put the car in drive and began to speed off at the same moment the woman at the window came with the two bags of the food. Izuku’s eyes widened when the woman made a confused face at them and yelled out.
“W-Wait!” Izuku screamed and Katsuki, out of reflex, slammed on the brakes. A tiny ‘whee!’ from Natsuko in the backseat could be heard as they all lurched forward. “I want the McGriddles—”
“—Deku, are you fucking serious!?” Katsuki hissed, he stared at the omega like he was officially crazy. “You’re about to give birth and you’re worried about some goddamn McGriddles—”
“Yes I am! This is all your fault anyways because your unnaturally big dick broke the condom!” Izuku yelled out in a furious tone.
“Deku, you’re not even supposed to eat right before—”
Izuku’s hand shot out to grab Katsuki by the hem of his shirt to yank him harshly closely. Green eyes were blazed and the omega’s scent soured deeply.
“If I’m going to get a c-section in a couple hours because of your freakish Plus Ultra sperm then I want the McDonalds, Kacchan! So give it to me!” Izuku screamed at the end, startling the alpha.
“Shit, alright,” Katsuki murmured and put the car in reverse. He quickly mumbled apologised at the confused worker as he snatched the two brown bags out of her hand and sped off.
Katsuki punched the car in full speed as Izuku began eating through his pain and groans. The alpha was undeniably impressed, frightened, and slightly turned on that his omega was somehow managing that much pain yet found the sheer will to still scoff down the McGriddles.
As they were flying down the highway, Katsuki had to admit this wasn’t exactly how he imagined them delivering the baby. He thought it would be something more peaceful and scheduled. Steady like a flowing river. But of course, Father Time had other plans for them. Nothing in their lives came that simple.
So instead, here they were: speeding in his sports car with that goddamn Pon Pon song on repeat. Natsuko was happily giggling and going ‘wee’ in the background thinking she was on some sort of roller coaster. And Izuku was throwing back his fifth McGriddle at an ungodly hour of the night.
“Pwetty lights!” Natsuko suddenly exclaimed.
Katsuki made a confused face. He glanced up at the rear view mirror baffled when red lights suddenly came up behind them.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me!” Katsuki yelled loudly as he pulled over unhappily.
Then Natsuko giggled, grabbed her feet with a large smile, and let out a very clearly pronounced, “Fuck! Fucky fuck Dada!”
“...Katsuki. I am going to kill you,” Izuku threatened in a deadly tone as he hissed in pain again. He grabbed his stomach again and glared at the alpha. “I’m going to strangle you in your sleep directly after this baby is born.”
Katsuki didn’t doubt it.
The officer got out of their car and then walked up to them with a notepad. But his eyes bulged wide when he saw the #1 and #2 Pro-heroes with graciously pissed off faces.
“G-Ground Zero? Deku? What are you two doing speeding this late at night?” He said nervously.
Katsuki felt his anger snap.
“Because he might be going into fucking labor!” The alpha yelled.
Immediately the cop jumped, muttered out an apology and offered an escort.
It was a blur after that.
They rushed to the hospital with the cop escorting them straight to the front doors. Katsuki barely even remembers how he came to a skidding stop.
He snatched open the doors to unbuckle Natsuko and pick her up in one arm and quickly assisted Izuku with the other. The omega leaned all the way into him in his fuzzy bunny slippers. When they arrived at the front, immediately Dr. Akamine had emergency services ready to go.
“Do you want to come into the operating room, Mr. Bakugou?” Dr. Akamine offered.
But then in that moment, Natsuko gave a small sniffle and snuggled into him. All eyes turned to the tiny toddler who was looking at Izuku wearily.
“No, he has to watch Nacchan,” Izuku answered for Katsuki. “Ah, we didn’t plan to bring her with us. This all just happened so suddenly.” Izuku gave another wheeze and doubled over with his hand on his back. “Shit.”
“That’s alright, let’s get you in the back quickly before something goes wrong. You can’t be like this for too long or you’ll internally bleed out,” Dr. Akamine rushed. “Have you had anything to eat in the last six hours?”
“He just scoffed down nine McGriddles,” Katsuki said un-amused. Izuku gave a guilty face and Dr. Akamine winced.
“Well, okay.” The doctor nodded as if assessing the information. “Nine is impressive. Since your contractions just started, it might be a while until it’s fully time for the procedure. But let’s hurry and get you on operation watch and do a checkup. I want to make sure that this is truly what’s happening or if it’s a false alarm.”
Katsuki nodded. He watched helplessly as the doctor signaled for the other health care workers to hurry over.
They all quickly doted on Izuku and hurried him onto a stretcher. In that moment as Izuku lay stretched out—it felt familiar.
The weight of Natsuko in his arms. The same hospital. The eerie night setting. It mirrored that painful night all the same.
Katsuki couldn’t help the worry that leaked into his heart and it seemed like Natsuko could sense it as well. Right before Izuku disappeared behind those closed doors, Natsuko let out a soft whine.
“Papa?” She asked. Her undeveloped scent of ginger leaked out. It was laced with sadness and it surprised both adults.
“Papa will be fine,” Katsuki reassured. He held her closer and nuzzled into her lovingly to calm her down. “You might be a big sister soon. Don’t worry alright, Nacchan?”
While he told her that, he tried to convince himself the same as he stood in an all too familiar scenario watching Izuku be wheeled away.
✦❖✦
Izuku wouldn’t have wished for it to happen any other way.
Through all the chaos, mishaps and fumbling around, he found it perfect in every sense of the word.
At first he felt the pain—searing hot pain striking through every bone in his body. Dr. Akamine put him immediately on emergency watch. The pain came and went for hours. Izuku felt like it was almost torture when the sun came up and nearly six hours had passed and there still wasn’t a full green signal his body was ready.
Then the final wave of pain came, stronger than any of the others, and Dr. Akamine told him that it was time.
Originally, his doctor was concerned about the early symptoms and was worried something might go wrong—but at the same time the man seemed hopeful.
Izuku was bubbling with jitters. But seeing Katsuki and Natsuko both smiling at him before they separated was all he needed to get through it. As he was hooked up to the anesthesia, Izuku slipped into unconsciousness. He felt a mix of excitement and nerves.
When he awoke again postoperative, the room was warm and happy. The bright lights welcomed him and the tiny metronome of his heart monitor filled his ears.
The second thing Izuku heard was the soft cries of a baby and immediately all the love he was eager to give rushed to the front of his chest. He looked down towards his feet and everything shifted to slow motion.
Sitting at the end of the bed was Natsuko and Katsuki, and in Katsuki’s arms was a tiny newborn wrapped in a bundle of sheets.
The love in those red eyes was endless.
Izuku shifted upright in his hospital gown and both carmine eyes turned towards him.
“Look who came kicking down the door, Izuku.” Katsuki smiled. “Perfectly healthy too. Dr. Akamine nearly cried when she was delivered.”
The alpha stood upright off the bed. He walked over gently to where Izuku was and the omega eagerly opened his arm with his heart pounding. Izuku felt happy tears prickle his eyes as he caught sight of large green eyes and a head full of curly platinum blond hair. His tears fell happily as Katsuki gently placed the new born in his arms.
“Hi, baby,” Izuku whispered lovingly as he smiled. He couldn’t hold back as he grinned to the point his cheeks hurt. “You’re here,” he said and choked back a tiny sob. “You’re really here.”
“She’s beautiful. Isn’t she?” Katsuki said with a large grin, and Izuku’s eyes snapped up.
“She?” He whispered and looked between his two girls.
“Mhm,” Katsuki said as he leaned down to brush a piece of curly blond hair. “We have two beautiful baby girls now. She even got your eyes, Izuku.”
“She got your hair,” Izuku said through his tears. He wiped them away carefully as he leaned back in the hospital bed, cradling the newborn carefully. “I guess blonde hair really is dominant on your side of the family.”
“Apparently so are curls on yours.”
They both laughed, still trying to catch up that it was all happening. Izuku looked at Natsuko who happily came crawling towards him on the bed. She climbed up to get a better look at her new little sister. She happily babbled and smiled. She laid a tender kiss on Izuku’s cheek and all the love in both Izuku and Katsuki spilled over.
Each man looked at the other tenderly as they basked in the light of the family they had found in one another.
Izuku reflected that his home and family was always Katsuki. Katsuki, who has been there with him through childhood, through U.A and all the crazy happenings that occurred. Katsuki who sacrificed himself for him and always brought him back from the brink of his own spiralings—over and over. He saw all the unconditional love pooling in those red eyes that reminded him of the moon.
Katsuki looked down at the smiling Izuku and felt his heart burst at the seams with love. That bright smile was given to him and all the years passed in front of him. He studied those large eyes that always admired him, loved him, and pushed him to be better. He looked between their kids and the bliss in his heart doubled overtime. Izuku, beautiful and loving Izuku, was his family—like he always was. He adored the affection sparking in those green eyes that reminded him of the sun.
“What should we name her?” Katsuki asked.
“I like Nozomi,” Izuku whispered as he studied the tiny, chubby face. “Our little ray of hope.”
“Hope. I love it. It fits perfectly for her. Plus, Nocchan and Nacchan have a nice ring together.”
“Yeah, they do. Perfect match.”
Izuku felt Father Time press pause on the hands on his clock, just for them to enjoy this moment together. He could feel time slow as the sun, the moon, and all the stars above smiled down upon their family.
