Work Text:
“C’mon, Rohan,” Josuke whined, leaning his weight on the ridiculously grumpy mangaka. “Play with me for a while.” He looked over at the man sitting next to him on the couch with the biggest, most pleading eyes he could manage, holding up the Nintendo 64 controller up at the mangaka.
Rohan frowned at him, glaring at the controller as if it had personally offended him before pushing Josuke off him. “I’m working. I’m already indulging you by spending time in the living room instead of my study.”
He groaned, glancing over at the television, where the character selection screen was on display. “Please?” he tried again, handing Rohan the controller. “Just one race. Then I’ll let you work!”
“You know as well as I do that one game will turn into multiple as we get into it,” Rohan countered, taking the controller from him anyway. “We’re both far too competitive for something like this.”
Josuke smiled, leaning over to kiss his boyfriend’s cheek before turning back to the screen. “Nah, it’ll just be one game. Promise.” He moved his cursor over the various characters, trying to decide which he should use against Rohan today. He usually went for a midweight character, but considering he really wanted to win today, and knowing that Rohan would most likely pick Yoshi, he picked Princess Peach.
After a few seconds of silently glaring at him, Rohan sighed. “You’re such a brat, Higashikata,” he muttered out, picking Yoshi as his racer, just as Josuke had predicted. “If you think picking Peach instead of Mario will help you win at all then you’re terribly mistaken.”
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll see. Where’d ya wanna race?” Josuke asked, glancing over the multiple tracks.
“I don’t care, just hurry and pick, so I can get back to working.”
Josuke rolled his eyes, picking his favorite course: Moo Moo Farm from the Mushroom Cup. Rohan sighed again, leaning his weight on Josuke as the game loaded. Josuke couldn’t help smiling to himself at how comfortable Rohan had gotten.
Yeah, they’d probably be playing for a while.
Lucky for Josuke, he somehow managed to steal the first place from Rohan at the very last second. If it weren’t for the three red shells that miraculously popped up for him last minute, he definitely would have lost.
Rohan took a deep breath, only further leaning into Josuke’s side with a big frown on his face. “Rematch.”
“Are you sure? Didn’t you have to work…?” Josuke asked with a hint of a smirk.
“Shut up, pick the track. Let’s play on Sherbet Land next,” Rohan said, eyes locked onto the game.
Whenever Rohan got serious about video games, Josuke knew that he didn’t really stand a chance… but, at the very least, he’d make his grumpy boyfriend take a well deserved rest from work. “Let’s make this a competition, yeah?”
“Loser makes dinner.”
“Sure.”
Somehow, they ended up playing the game for nearly two hours, despite Rohan maintaining the lead most of the time.
