Work Text:
"Good morning, (Y/N)! You look as pretty as ever today."
Nodding in appreciation, you quickly headed to your class. You didn't want to be late. Not only that, the boys' constant praises made you so embarrassed that you couldn't wait to get away from them. You already had your eye on this one quiet boy in class - and that boy was Kageyama Shigeo.
Although he didn't look all that handsome, or appealing, you found in him a very nice trait. He was compassionate and helpful, and always gave good guidance. You simply didn't understand why people avoided him when he was actually such a nice person.
You remember the first time you talked to Shigeo - it was when you needed some help on your math homework and you headed to him for help. Surprisingly, he didn't shy away from you and helped you with the work. His explanations made you understand the bundle of equations on the worksheet, and you couldn't thank him enough. From that day onwards, you'd say hello to him everyday, hoping that he wouldn't look so dull.
Entering the classroom, you immediately saw the boy. However, your path to get to him wasn't smooth.
"Oi, (Y/N), I heard that Onigawara has a huge crush on you! Maybe you should give him a chance."
"(Y/N), you're so pretty today! Are you sure you don't have any make-up on?"
"Hey (Y/N), I got this box of chocolates for you.."
You scoffed and ignored all of their voices. You couldn't stand being in this class. Everyone in here was utterly annoying.
Reaching Shigeo's table, you slammed both hands on it, making the poor boy jump and look up at your smiling face.
"O-oh, (Y/N)! Good morning," he said, proceeding to give you a small smile.
"Shigeo, I've heard that there's a new ramen shop down the street. Do you wanna go there after school today?" you asked excitedly, trying to keep a huge blush from forming on your cheeks.
Shigeo's heart fluttered. You could've sworn you saw a light tint of red on his face, but you brushed it off. You still thought that he didn't return your feelings, even though you have already successfully made his heart skip a beat when you called his name. Of course, being the dense protagonist of a reader insert story, you couldn't have known.
The boy smiled at you, his smile bigger than usual.
"Okay."
--
The two of you walked side by side to the new ramen shop. The silence between the both of you was comfortable - you felt at peace being by Shigeo's side. He emitted a sense of calmness and cool, a polar opposite to your impulsive personality which you always had hated yourself for. Maybe being with him could be a first step to being less impulsive. How does he even do it?
Earlier today, you had to reject your best friend's invitation to their karaoke session, and when you told them you were going out with Shigeo, of course, she squealed.
"Go get your man!", she said.
Chuckling at the memory, a tiny smile formed on your face. Shigeo heard it and turned to face you.
"What are you laughing about?" Shigeo asked, curiosity in his eyes. Hearing his question, you immediately blushed. You couldn't tell him why! So you just laughed and shrugged the question off.
"It was nothing. Just an old memory."
Upon reaching the ramen shop, you weren't surprised to see a queue. But not this long! Your stomach was way too hungry to wait. You desperately looked at Shigeo, hoping he'd be able to say something.
"(Y/N)? What's wrong?" he asked, as if oblivious to the current situation.
"Aren't you hungry? Even if you aren't I am! And the queue's so long..." you whined.
"W-well, there's another ramen shop nearby that I always go to eat at with my master. Do you want to go there?"
"Yes please!"
With shining eyes and a growling stomach, you followed Shigeo to the ramen shop he mentioned. This one had less of a queue, but Shigeo said it was worth it.
Entering the store, the smell of ramen broth immediately filled your nostrils. Your mouth couldn't help but water.
"D-do you mind if I t-treat you ramen, (Y/N)?" Shigeo stuttered, the blush on his face more imminent than ever.
Free ramen? From the boy you have a huge crush on? Definite yes. But you couldn't allow him to treat you. You'd feel bad.
"It's okay, Shigeo. I wouldn't want you to waste your money on me."
Suddenly, the voice of the ramen shop owner rang out.
"Just let him treat you, young lady! Don't wanna ruin his chances with ya. In fact, everytime he comes here with that blonde guy, he always mentions this girl with with long black hair. I'll assume that's you, miss!"
You felt your heart skip a beat. Shigeo's always talking about me to his master?! Turning your head, you saw Shigeo turn into a blushing mess as he shot desperate looks at the ramen stall owner. You giggled and took Shigeo's hand, leading him to a seat for two.
"Fine, you'll treat me ramen, Shigeo."
