Chapter Text
After the events of the Mii-pocalypse, Saul, also known as the Mii Brawler has been more alone than he usually was. The fight against the corrupted fake Mii Matt has proven to be a lot more troublesome not just for the first Mii Fighter, but for everyone else in the mansion. The Hands are grieving at the loss of the only family they've had so matches probably won’t be happening anytime soon, the other fighters have gotten cautious and strict when it came to Miis, even him and his other friends. Their concern is understandable, after all, who would say those three wouldn’t rebel like the other Miis? And so, Saul kept to himself with his daily training, but, only more intense; if damage could be shown on the Sandbag, there wouldn't even be a Sandbag left with how hard Saul's attacks were in a short period of time. These more intense workouts have gotten more crazy and crazy until one day, he collapsed due to the lack of rest.
So, for the first time in a while, Saul decided to purposely slack off. ‘These torture trainings aren’t going to help anyone, let alone me.’ he would think to himself, spending a few days with Finn and Hannah, as well as the two Wii Fit Trainers since those are one of the few people who still trusts him, he still kept his distance away from the other Smashers like he was a biohazard.
One late evening, he decided to go for a walk to clear his mind. Putting on his biker gear (since he doesn’t have anything else that would be considered as “casual clothing”) ,he strolled to the back of the hotel where the beach can be seen and interacted with. The now large sound of the ocean waves crawling back to soar was soothing to him as he felt his inner, negative thoughts flying away like a pack of birds enjoying its personal bath. He can stare at the sore of the sea, the moon reflecting on the ocean, and the soft sensation of the sand his shoes touches for hours, or even days.
Oh, how he wishes this feeling lasts forever. But he knew, no matter how peaceful this moment was, with just him and the ocean breeze, reminding him so much of his time on Wuhu Island, good things must come to an end. Yet, those memories of Wuhu Island reminds him of his teacher, and eventually, the dramatic events that have transpired and will forever be locked in his mind. “Dammit, why can’t I think straight!?” He ended up saying out loud, thankfully, no one could hear him.
Or at least, he thought he was.
“Can’t sleep either?” a female voice came from his right. He expected some night-owl smasher to be here, like Isabelle or Samus or whoever. But what he was not expecting to speak to him was another Mii companion, one of which is the sole survivor when she and other Miis rebelled against Matt. The Mii Brawler wasn’t tired, but he decided to play along with the female’s question.
“Yeah.” he replied, not looking at her. He wasn’t in the mood to be speaking to anyone, muchless another Mii. “I’m about to go back and hope for the best.”
Before he made his way back to the hotel and try to get some of the rest he pretended to have, he felt a touch on his arm which stopped him right in his tracks. That’s when he turned his head to the direction of his arm being grabbed. The touch was... gentle, warm, and yet, hesitant. He stopped and stood there in complete silence, only the sound that can be heard is the waves accelerating to the sore back and forward can be heard. For some reason, Saul couldn’t stop but take in silence and warmth, like he stepped in a sauna after a long, stressful day. Perhaps this is something similar.
“Don’t go... not yet. I... I need to tell you something first.” the female Mii said. “I know things have been tough for you after... what happened, but I want to tell you, don’t take it out on yourself. We Miis... we need each other, a lot more than you think, Saul.”
“Wait, are you-”
“You didn't know who you were talking to? Heh, don't know if you're so drowned in your own sorrows you never take a look at anyone else or you're just that empty-headed.” The woman who has now proclaimed herself as a Mii chuckled, taking the weight off a little who is the mii rebelled along with the pigtails mii. "Don't try to be all edgy next time, you'll cut yourself with all of that."
Saul smiled. “Alice, I knew that voice was familiar. Where have you been? Neither I, nor Finn or Hannah have seen you after Matt was defeated.”
“Like you, I needed some alone time, but I didn’t act all doom and gloom unlike you.” she teased, letting go of his arm. She was trying to lighten the mood, which worked, only temporary. "And unlike you, I didn't torture myself... well, physically anyway."
Saul scoffed as he usually does. Point taken.
“Well, glad to have you back, at least. You’ve gotten us worried.” Saul replied. “But what were you saying before about “sticking together”? What, are you going to make the biggest friendship speech?”
"What? No I just want to talk-"
"What is there to talk about? What's done is done. That evil Matt caused way too much damage and people have suffered."
"I know that but it's not-"
"Not our fault? Sure but what does everyone else think? For all they know, we could just be disgusied Miis waiting for a chance to finish what Matt started!?"
"You're missing the point, and you keep interrupting m-"
"What point!? That we should just give up? Let the Hands banish us to who knows where and let us suffer for the sins of the Mii-pocalpyse from Ma-"
"THAT WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER!” Alice ended up bursting out accidentally. She didn’t mean for that to come out in an aggressive or threatening manner but it still did due to her own stress. Saul wasn’t offended by the tone.
“I'm... sorry for yelling... but what I was trying to say is... we need each other, all of us. Not just here in Smash, but for our future too. This fight... this... war has proven how unprepared we are for the future. No amount of overtraining can help if we end up dead because we can’t even control our own bodies. Of course I feel regret over this! I lost my friend because of this stupid war; there isn't a day where I hate for not doing more and finding a way to save Kate and everyone else. I promise I won’t lose anyone else I care. Matt, Finn, Hannah, and you.”
This message has made Saul speechless, this whole situation was something he thought he would never be hearing from anyone. He was always sheltered, even before joining Smash so he was used to keeping a distance between him and other Miis, or in this case, Miis and Smashers. He met Finn and Hannah during the Smash tournament, as they were both from different places or even worlds he didn't know outside of the island. It was nearly close with Finn and Hannah, if it weren’t for the Hands inviting them to the next Smash tournament then he would’ve been alone again. There was a comfortable silence with the waves of the ocean and his inner thoughts. But all of that disappeared when Alice started talking again.
“Phew, that gotten really dark, really quickly.” Alice laughed a little to release the tension. “Well, I feel a little better after talking with you, thanks Saul. Thanks for listening to my little vent. I needed to get that out of my system. Look man, I know it's hard for us, but keep that chin up and stay strong my guy. And hey, thanks again for conveniently coming out here.”
“O-Oh, uh... you’re welcome?”
Alice waved and gave a wink before saying, “Next time we meet, I’m going to kick your ass on the battlefield, prepare yourself for humiliation as you prepare your long relationship with the ground!”
And with that, Alice left, leaving Saul alone with his thoughts. There were so many events happening at such little time for his mind to transpire and think about it all. It may take a him a while for things to become "chill" with him and the Smashers (or what he believes), but he will get there once that ship sails.
“A-As if!” Saul ended up shouting to the, now, distant Alice.
He was truly looking forward to beating Alice with flying colors.
