“It’s a pleasure to be of assistance to her royal highness, Princess Anthanasia de Alger Obelia,” She curtsied, as the door was opened by the Princess’ nanny.
The rustling of the silk blankets on Athanasia’s bed and soft murmurs had alerted Athanasia’s guest that she had just woken up. “Lu… Lucas?” A soft voice reasoned out, oblivious to the unfamiliar guest within her room.
“No, your highness. You have a guest from the duke’s house.” Miss Lilian Yoruk, the Princess’ nanny spoke. “Your father, his majesty, had sent her to your room, since she is your guest. In expectancy of you being already ready for the day, Felix had requested you both go outside.”
Athanasia groaned and the duke’s daughter had to stop herself from laughing at her cuteness. A glimpse of blonde messy hair and a dark cloak emerged from the curtains of the bed. Miss Yoruk turned to a bright red, as the noble in the room stared at the dark cloak, which had green accents and seemed too big on her highness to be hers. “Athanasia!” Miss Lilian gasped, embarrassed.
“What is it, Lily?” She answered, still oblivious to the situation.
The duke’s daughter giggled, “That’s quite the fabulous sleepwear you have, your highness.” She tried to be subtle.
Athanasia glanced at down on her clothing, her face quickly flaring into a tomato red. “It’s… It’s not like that!” She exclaimed, quickly hiding back under her covers. “I, I fell asleep on the sofa yesterday, while we were studying. When I woke up last night… I moved to my bed, I don’t know if there’s anything else! But, it’s not like that!”
The guest and Miss Lilian glanced at each other, knowingly. “It is quite alright, your highness.” The duke’s daughter fiddled with her hands. “Many of the noble children know of your ‘close’ relationship with Sir Lucas, although I apologize at laughing at your cute predicament.”
Her highness’ countenance flared another bright red. “I said it wasn’t like that!” The two other ladies in the room laughed again.
“I’m afraid that’s not how many people see it as, your highness.” Miss Lilian replied, the duke’s daughter agreeing. “I’ll ask the other maids to help your highness with dressing up. I’ll keep this young lady some company.”
Lilian and the duke’s daughter waited outside the door. After moments of comfortable silence between the two, Miss Lilian mentioned something that could be scandalous, but she had deemed the young lady as an ally from earlier’s situation. “Your ladyship, keep it a secret between us two, but Athanasia wears Sir Lucas’ clothes quite frequently. His majesty is quite fine with their relationship as long as Sir Lucas respects her privacy. He has rules made for Sir Lucas. If Lucas breaks one, he’s banished from the country.”
The young lady swears not to tell a soul and becomes quite friendly with her highness. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad first impression after all.
