Chapter Text
Magnus listened quietly as Alec gave him a blow by blow of his visit to Anna James’ family. He couldn’t help the smile that took over his face as Alec told him about grabbing a coffee with Marissa and Alec’s offer for her to be part of Max’s life. Magnus was so proud of the man before him, he had the biggest heart of anyone he’d ever met, and it still seems like a dream to him that he was his.
Thursday morning, Alec was a bundle of energy, which he took out on poor Chairman. After cleaning out his litter tray, he had cornered the cat in the boy’s bedroom, and now they were both soaked as Alec tried to wash the poor little cat. Usually, Alec would have let Chairman be, but the boys had somehow gotten glue, glitter and stickers on the cat and his fur was matted in areas. Alec was worried about the cat trying to groom himself, unsure if it was safe for him to swallow the glitter or stickers.
Chairman had hated the bath, and Alec had the claw marks as proof, but it seemed his hatred did not extend to the hairdryer. Chairman stood there happily, without Alec having to hold him as he dried off his coat. The cat had growled at Alec when he’d stopped, and Alec had to stand there for an additional 10 minutes, blow dryer in hand until Chairman decided it was enough and took off.
‘Your cat hates water, but I finally got all the sticky bits out of his coat.’ Alec sent to Magnus
‘You’re a braver man than I, Alexander, I usually take him to the pet spa.’
‘He loves the hairdryer though, wonder who he takes after?’
‘Obviously someone with incredible style and taste.’
It was while Alec was standing in the kitchen, decided on what to make for lunch that he had an idea about Friday night. Izzy and Clary were happy to mind the boys, all night if need be, Izzy had told him, so he had decided to make it a proper night out and take Magnus to dinner afterwards. The weather was really nice at the moment, and the idea of a picnic popped into his head.
Scooping up his phone he put a quick call into Lily.
“Hi Lily, sorry to disturb you.”
“Alec, it’s all good, I was just about to go out to lunch so great timing.”
“I had an idea for Friday, and I wanted to ask if it would be OK for me to plan a little picnic for Magnus on the rooftop of the building.”
Lily didn’t say anything for a moment, and then Alec heard an obvious, aww.
“That’s quite the romantic gesture,” She said. “I think Magnus would love it.”
“So it’s OK?” Alec asked.
“Definitely, just as long as you clean up afterwards.”
“Of course.”
“Fine by me then,” She said happily. “What time did you want to pick up the keys?”
“Would it be Ok to pick them up about 9am tomorrow?”
“Absolutely, you have the address of my office, I’ll be here.”
“Great,” Alec said excitedly, “Thank you so much, Lily.”
“See you tomorrow,” She said, smiling.
Looking at the clock, Magnus groaned. It was Alec’s last day off work, and he had wanted to spend the entire day with him, but he had to go into work this morning for a few hours.
“You’re scowling too loudly,” Alec whispered against Magnus’ ear.
“I don’t want to go to work,” he grumbled.
“It’s only for a few hours,” Alec reminded him.
“I know,” Magnus whined. “But I don’t want to move, I want to stay here snuggled with you.”
Alec chuckled. “We have two toddlers, you and I both know that they’ll be up soon and snuggle time will be over.”
“You never know, they might sleep in,” Magnus said hopeful, only for the monitor to go off a moment later. They could hear rustling and giggles.
“I hate it when you’re right,” Magnus groaned.
Alec burst into laughter and pulled him close. “I promise we’ll have some alone time to snuggle when you get home, and tonight I’m taking you out, don’t forget.”
“How could I,” Magnus said excitedly. “I can’t wait.”
“Neither can I,” Alec said, pulling Magnus in for a kiss, just as the boys pushed open the door to their room.
Alec made breakfast while Magnus showered for work and then got the boys ready. Magnus was taking Alec’s car today, leaving his own for Alec, as he could drop the boys off at childcare on the way into work.
“You’ll be home when I get off work?” Magnus asked.
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Alec said smirking.
“Looking forward to it,” Magnus said, giving Alec another quick peck and pinching his ass for good measure.
“I have a feeling you have more on your mind than just cuddling,” Alec laughed as he helped the boys into their coats.
“I’m just glad you can’t read minds,” Magnus said blushing.
After Alec cleared up from Breakfast, he took a quick shower and made his way to Lily’s office to pick up the keys. Lily explained how to turn on the power and the security system to him and wished him luck.
Alec’s next stop was the building. He bypassed the front and let himself into the back entrance, climbing up the stairs quickly and unlocking the door to the roof. There were a small table and chairs on the roof, they were old and dusty but sturdy enough. It would be the perfect spot for their picnic. Alec made a few additions to his shopping list and locked up before heading to the grocery store. He picked up everything he needed for their picnic as well as stocking up for home. Rushing home, Alec spent the rest of his morning, putting together their picnic. He was just cleaning up the kitchen when he heard the front door.
“Honey, I’m home,” Magnus yelled out and then chuckled to himself.
“That’s never going to get old, is it?” Alec asked as he walked up to his beautiful boyfriend.
“Nope, never.”
“You’re so corny,” Alec teased.
“You’re one to talk,” Magnus stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Alec’s waist.
“We were made for each other,” Alec said, smiling widely as they moved in for a kiss.
Their kiss started off slow and sweet, and then Magnus’ hands started to roam, and soon they were both panting into each other’s mouths.
“I need you,” Magnus whispered against Alec’s ear. “Naked, under me.”
There was a flurry of clothes, and soon they were both naked, having made it as far as the couch. They moaned into each other’s mouths, grinding against each other, both so lost in each other, it almost came as a shock as they rolled and ended up on the carpeted floor by the couch.
They burst into laughter for a moment before plunging back into another kiss. It would have taken them a few moments to get off the floor and head to the bedroom, but neither man wanted to move.
“I thought you wanted me under you?” Alec asked the next time the broke for air.
“I did, but this is good too,” Magnus said, pressing up against Alec.
“You are going to be the death of me,” Alec chuckled, and he moved in for another kiss.
An hour later, the two men lay curled around each other, sweaty, sticky and completely sated.
“We need to do this more often,” Magnus said.
“Fuck on the floor?” Alec laughed.
Magnus playfully swiped at him. “Spend a lazy afternoon with each other,” Magnus clarified. “After fucking on the floor.”
“We’ll need to get a softer rug,” Alec said. “I think I have carpet burns on my ass.”
Magnus ran his hand over Alec’s butt. “Me too, but so worth it.”
“Totally!” Alec chuckled.
“I need a shower,” Magnus said stretching, Alec’s eyes wandering over him.
“My eyes are up here, Alexander,” Magnus laughed.
“It wasn’t your eyes; I was looking at,” Alec said smirking.
Magnus giggled and was about to say something when his tummy grumbled.
“Hungry babe?” Alec asked.
“I guess I am,” Magnus chuckled.
“I have pasta salad in the fridge, did you want to eat first or shower first?”
Magnus’ tummy grumbled again at the thought of Alec’s pasta salad.
“I guess that would be food first,” Magnus laughed.
Alec reached for a packet of baby wipes and handed Magnus a couple, cleaning himself a little before heading for the kitchen. A few moments later, Magnus stood in the doorway, watching Alec dishing up their lunch.
“I could get used to seeing you like this in the kitchen,” Magnus chuckled.
Alec threw his head back and laughed. “I’m not sure how practical it would be to cook while naked, could be dangerous.”
“Very true,” Magnus giggled, “I’d hate for you to burn any of your important bits.”
Grabbing their bowls, they made their way back to the lounge. Alec put his bowl on the coffee table and was rummaging through their clothes, looking for his boxers when Magnus giggled.
“Looking for these?” Magnus asked, holding them up to him.
“Yes,” Alec said, reaching out, only to have Magnus toss them over his shoulder.
“I think I prefer you as you are darling,” Magnus said smirking.
Alec thought for a moment before shrugging and dropping down onto the couch. There was a time when he would have been so self-conscious being on display like he was. Especially now with the scar on his stomach, but with Magnus, there was none of that. For the first time in his life, Alec felt content, complete and utterly happy.
After lunch, Alec and Magnus decided to take a bath together, and before they knew it, it was almost 5 pm.
“What time are we going to dinner?” Magnus asked as he dried his hair.
“Izzy and Clary will be here about 6.30,” Alec said, pulling on some jeans.
“Hmm,” Magnus said, calculating how much time he’d have to get ready for their date tonight in his head.
“Why don’t I go pick up the boys while you start getting ready?” Alec suggested, trying to hide his face from Magnus so he wouldn’t see that he had an ulterior motive. Initially, Alec had planned to just set up their picnic once they both arrived at the building and looked around, but if he ducked out now, he could set things up, pick up the boys and be back with time to get ready himself.
“Are you sure? You don’t mind?”
“Of course not,” Alec said, shifting close. “You only need to dress casually tonight, but I know you have your whole routine and I take about 10 minutes to get ready.”
“Thank you, Alexander,” Magnus said, kissing him sweetly.
Alec rushed out of the apartment and down to the car. He already had everything packed into Magnus’ boot.
By the time Alec arrived back at Magnus’ with the boys, Izzy and Clary had arrived. They were chatting away in the kitchen, setting out takeout containers.
“It’s about time,” Izzy laughed as the boys rushed towards her and Clary. They pulled them into a tight hug.
“Sorry,” Alec said shyly. “I got to talking with Naomi.”
“It’s perfectly OK darling, why don’t you go get changed.” Alec heard Magnus say and he turned to see Magnus standing behind him looking beyond incredible.
He was dressed casually, in black jeans and a dark red shirt. He was wearing eyeliner, and just a hint of lip gloss and his hair was perfectly styled with streaks of red through it.
“Wow,” Alec said, and he heard Clary and Izzy giggle.
The boys ran at Magnus, and Magnus laughed as he caught them. “Did you have a good day?” he asked them.
Both boys started babbling about their day, and Alec took that as he cue to go and change. Alec couldn’t help but smile as he stepped into the bedroom and noticed that Magnus has laid out some clothes for him. Dark blue jeans and a navy blue shirt with royal blue accents. He’d also laid out matching navy underwear and socks. It took Alec only a minute or two to change his clothes, he didn’t need to shower thanks to their earlier bath. He stepped into the bathroom and ran his fingers through his hair, trying to tame it. He glanced over at all of Magnus’ hair products and picked up one he recognised. He squeezed a blob of the product into his hand and then rubbed it into his hair before styling it again. Once he was happy with the result, he returned to the room, pulled on his boots and grabbed his phone and the car keys.
When Alec walked back into the lounge area, Clary and Izzy were parked on the sofa, the boys sandwiched between them, a feast of Chinese takeout spread on the coffee table. They were trying to decide on what to watch on TV.
“Where’s Magnus?” Alec asked.
“Right here, darling,” Magnus said, walking out of the kitchen with a roll of paper towel.
“You look incredible,” Magnus beamed, leaning in for a kiss, which was met with a giggle from the group on the couch.
“As much as we’d love to watch the two of you kissing, we have serious Disney movies to watch,” Izzy laughed.
“If you need . . .” Alec started to say, and Clary stopped him.
“We have your numbers and will call,” She said. “Now go and have fun, no need to rush home.”
Alec and Magnus kissed the boys goodnight and made a quick exit. They knew that the boys were in good hands, and they were so grateful to have Izzy and Clary. Not everyone had the luxury of having such incredible baby sitters.
As they reached Magnus’ car, Alec rushed to the passenger side and opened it for Magnus. Magnus giggled. “Such a gentleman.”
Once they were on the road, Magnus turned to Alec and smiled. “So where are we off to tonight?”
“You’ll see soon enough,” Alec chuckled.
It only took them 15 minutes to get to the building, and Alec was able to park right out front. He rushed out of the car and opened Magnus’ door for him.
“I could get used to this,” Magnus chuckled.
Magnus looked around confused, he knew this part of town, and he couldn’t remember any restaurants nearby, there were a couple of coffee shops and a grocery store, but nowhere that would have evening dining.
Alec took Magnus by the hand and led him to the front of the building.
“We’re here,” Alec said, and Magnus looked at the building in front of them utterly confused.
“You’re taking me to dinner at a closed down gym?”
Alec laughed, “Yep,” He laughed and pulled out the keys.
“Why do you have the keys?” Magnus had no idea what was going on.
Alec stepped inside and turned on the lights beside the door. He watched Magnus lingering in the doorway, so he stretched out his hand which Magnus took and dragged him inside, closing and locking the door behind them.
“Alexander . . .” Magnus started to say, but Alec lifted his finger and placed it gently on his lips.
“So,” Alec started. “I may have used some of my free time to start the search for our new home.”
Magnus blinked at him, as his words started to sink in.
“I contacted a real estate agent,” Alec continued. “Whom it turns out is a friend of yours, Lily Chen. Initially, I was looking at apartments, but after we talked, I decided to look at buildings, and she showed me a few, and well then she showed me this place.”
“You’ve been looking for our new home?” Magnus asked, feeling a little overwhelmed.
“I know it’s something we really should have been doing together but I . . .”
Alec’s words were cut off when Magus threw himself at him and kissed him senseless.
“So you’re not angry at me?” Alec chuckled as they broke for air.
“You are the most incredible man, how did I get so lucky?” Magnus asked. “Of course I’m not angry, this is all so romantic.”
“That’s what Izzy and Clary said,” Alec giggled.
“So this place is for sale?” Magnus asked, looking around at the open space.
“It is, let me show you around.”
Alec showed Magnus around the empty downstairs and the upstairs through the apartment with their tour ending on the roof where Alec had set up their picnic, along with the battery-powered twinkle lights and candles Alec had found at the supermarket.
“When did you have time to do all this?” Magnus said in awe.
“Well I cooked everything before you got home and had it packed into your car,” Alec explained. “I was going to just set it up once we got here but then I left you to get ready and ducked back here before picking up the boys.”
“That’s quite sneaky of you Alexander,” Magnus said, his heart overflowing with so much love for the man beside him.
They sat down, and Alec pulled out their food. As they ate, they talked, and by the time they got to dessert, they were both happy and content.
“This place is almost perfect,” Magnus said he dug into his chocolate mousse.
“I thought so too, which is why I wanted to show it to you.”
“It’s a great neighbourhood,” Magnus said glancing around the roof, all sort of ideas floating through his mind.
“I know it would be a huge investment,” Alec explained. “Even after selling our apartments, we’d still need a bank loan.” He says hesitantly. “I know we haven’t been together all that long so if you wanted to wait, to keep looking or just . .”
It was Magnus’ turn to stop Alec talking with a finger to his lips.
“I can’t believe you did all this, for me, for us,” Magnus said. “This place is like a dream, something I’ve always wanted.”
They are both quiet for a moment before Magnus broke the silence.
“You’re right, this is a huge investment, and we haven’t been together for very long, but I know that you are my future Alexander,” Magnus said moving from his seat to drop down beside Alec.
“So maybe we should go into this not as boyfriends but as husbands,” Magnus added nervously.
Alec blinked down at Magnus in disbelief.
“You are my world, I have never loved anyone as deeply as I do you, and I know that there is no one else for me. When I thought that I had lost you, my heart shattered, I can’t live without you, Alexander. I want you, I need you, in my life each and every day. Alexander Gideon Lightwood, make all my dreams come true and marry me.”
Alec was speechless, they had joked about proposing, and he had thought about it more than once but had felt that it was something for the future but here, now, at this moment, it seemed that everything aligned.
“Yes, by the angel yes,” Alec said throwing himself at Magnus, knocking them both to the hard concrete floor of the roof, not that either man noticed as they kissed each other senseless.
After clearing away their picnic, and deciding to leave the fairy lights up, they walked around the building again. Excitedly discussing what they’d like to change, add, and keep. It would be a massive project, but they both knew that this was the home for them. It was late, but Alec sent a text message to Lily anyway, telling her they wanted to discuss the purchase as soon as possible.
Only a few minutes later, Lily called, and they organised to get together for a late brunch on Saturday to start the ball rolling.
“We have a home,” Magnus said as he leant against his car, watching Alec putting the picnic basket and cooler in the boot.
“We have a home,” Alec said as he closed the boot and moved to press Magnus against the car.
“I love you, Magnus, I can’t wait to call you husband.”
“Neither can I Alexander,” Magnus said as Alec captured his lips once again. “We need to go ring shopping.”
“I’m free tomorrow,” Alec chuckled.
“Suddenly my calendar is quite clear too, maybe after we talk to Lily?”
“Perfect,” Alec said, stealing another kiss before opening the door for Magnus.
Magnus and Alec were still beaming when they got home.
“So I guess he loved the place?” Izzy asked.
“We’re engaged,” Alec blurted out, and Clary and Izzy both squealed in delight.
“The boys!” Alec said trying to calm them
“I guess you really loved the apartment?” Clary teased Magnus
“It’s incredible,” Magnus said
“So you finally popped the question?” Izzy said smirking to her brother
“Magnus proposed actually,” Alec said, pulling Magnus in close.
The girls pulled them into a hug and squealed again this time keeping their voices down.
“Can we please ask you to keep this little bit of information to yourselves?” Magnus asked. “We’d like to tell everyone ourselves.”
“Of course,” Izzy said. “Our lips are sealed.”
“We need to tell the boys first too,” Alec said all smiles.
“I am so happy for you Hermano,” Izzy said, pulled her brother into a hug. “I think we’ve finally found our happiness.” She whispered into his ear, her eyes landing on Clary.
“We have,” Alec said, holding his sister tight. “I’m happy for you too, just don’t wait too long to ask Clary.”
“I won’t,” She said before they slowly let each other go.
Approximately 6 months later . . .
Magnus laughed as he watched Alec chasing Max and Rafael around the studio, paintbrush in hand. The two little boys were laughing hysterically and ran to find shelter, hiding behind Maryse, screaming for their nanna to help them.
Maryse held up the paintbrush in her hand and used her other hand to shield the boys behind her.
Magnus couldn’t hear her exchange with Alec, but soon he was painting a stripe along her cheek, and the whole group was quickly rolling on the ground in fits of giggles.
So much had changed since Magnus’ proposal to Alec.
Their first offer on the building had been accepted, and 3 days later they were signing documents in Lily’s office. It hadn’t been hard for the two of them to secure a bank loan, borrowing enough to cover renovations for the apartment and studio.
It hasn’t been practical to live in their new building while renovating the apartment with two small children, so Alec and Max had boxed up all their things, and moved in with Magnus and Raphael.
Izzy had excitedly purchased Alec’s apartment from him, and it was no surprise to anyone when she’d asked Clary to move in with her.
Alec and Magnus, with the help of family and friends, did as much work as they could on the apartment themselves and they had hired Lydia Branwell’s new beau John as their contractor for all the big stuff.
A few weeks after their engagement, Alec had reached out to his mother. They had met up for coffee, and as they say, the rest is history. Coffee meetings turned to lunch meetings, and soon Maryse was coming over for dinner, and now she was a regular fixture in their lives and the best baby sitter you could ever ask for. Max and Rafael adored their nanna and Maryse, in turn, spoilt them rotten. Alec and Maryse’s relationship wasn’t perfect, they were still working through things, but it was on the mend, and her love for her son was undeniable.
Maryse hadn’t been the only new person in their lives. Marissa, Max’s auntie was also now part of their little family. She loved both boys and spoilt them along with Izzy and Clary. The three had become great friends, and it warmed Magnus heart as he watched the three of them now, painting the incredible mural, Clary had designed for the studio wall.
Magnus turned to where they had a small scaffold set up and watched Simon, Raphael and Jace at work, painting the ceiling. Maia stood below, filling up paint trays and snapping orders at the three of them. She made an incredible foreman.
Magnus, Alec and the boys had moved into the apartment upstairs about a months ago, it had taken a less than a week for Magnus to sell his place and the new owners had wanted a short settlement which worked perfectly for them.
A week after moving in, Alec and Magnus threw an official engagement party, and it had been incredible. They had all their family and friends together, in their new home and Magnus’ heart had bubbled over with joy.
Alec watched Magnus as his eyes roamed the room. The studio was really coming together, and it was amazing to watch how happy Magnus was. Magnus was currently on hiatus from his show Dance Diva’s which had been picked up for two more seasons. Alec had been confused when Magnus had told him the news because Magnus hadn’t looked happy. It took a bottle of wine and a long bubble bath for Magnus to finally admit that part of him had hoped the show wouldn’t be renewed so that he could concentrate all his attention on setting up his dance school.
Alec has explained to Magnus that he supported him complete and that if he wanted to quit, then he should. They could do Ok financial on Alec’s wage until the school took off. Magnus had been tempted, but he knew that it would have been difficult to get out of his contract and he also would have felt guilty, leaving the incredible people he worked with, in the lurch. Magnus had told the producers that he intended to see out his three-year contract but that he would not be looking to renew afterwards. Thankfully they understood, even allowing Magnus to take a more limited role on the show. They were just happy to have Magnus for the next two seasons.
The plan going forward was for Magnus to run some classes a few afternoons a week and on Saturday mornings. He’d look at hiring additional staff once things took off and he already had a few people in mind. Ragnor was in the process of helping Magnus setting up his business, and Simon had happily offered to help with the bookkeeping. Simon had already started to set up the accounting software etc. for Magnus and would help with tax returns and reporting, as his official accountant. Everything was really coming together, and Alec had never felt happier.
Alec’s phone started to ring, and he smiled as he saw Ragnor’s name flash on the screen. Ragnor and Cat were going to come by for lunch with the group. Cat was due in a week, and despite her willingness to help, they had all agreed, it was best that she wasn’t around paint fumes for too long.
“Hey Ragnor,” Alec said, happily answering his phone.
“The baby’s coming!” Ragnor yelled down the phone line, he sounded frantic. Alec could hear Cat laughing in the background.
“It’s fine, just grab the bags,” Alec heard Cat say and then there was a brief pause, and a moment later Cat was on the line.
“And here I thought I should be the one panicking,” She laughed into the phone.
“First-time father,” Alec chuckled.
“So it seems this little one has decided today’s the day, thank god,” Cat sounded relieved.
“I’ll meet you at the hospital,” Alec said.
“Don’t forget Magnus,” Cat said, amused. “See you soon, I have a husband to calm down.”
“Cat’s in labour,” Alec announced to the room, and everyone started talking all at once.
“We need to go,” Magnus said excitedly.
Magnus was Cat’s backup plan because Ragnor had freaked out watching birthing videos at their prenatal class. She’d also asked Alec to be there in an official capacity as her child’s paediatrician.
“Go,” Maryse said. “I’ll stay with the boys.”
“Thank you Maryse,” Magnus said, giving her a quick hug.
“Thanks, Mom,” Alec said, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Max, Rafael, be good for Nanna OK,” Magnus said to the boys. “Auntie Cat is having the baby, so Daddy and I need to go.”
“We will papa,” The boys said together, and Alec and Magnus hugged them close.
“Call us,” Izzy yelled at them as they ran towards the stairs to the apartment.
Alec and Magnus took the quickest shower they’d ever shared together, dressing quickly and heading off to the hospital. Cat had already texted them to tell them they had arrived and they had plenty of time to get there
8 hours later, an exhausted Cat and frantic Ragnor were the proud parents of a gorgeous little girl, Madzie Loss-Fell.
It had been a very long afternoon, so Alec and Magnus watched over Madzie while Cat and Ragnor slept. When little Madzie decided to start fussing, Alec was quick to pick up the little one and change her.
“I think she’s hungry,” He said to Magnus, as he rocked her gently.
Magnus couldn’t help the way his heart clenched, watching Alec with a baby in his arms.
“I’ll heat up her bottle,” Magnus said.
Once the bottle was warmed, Magnus expected Alec to take over, but instead, Alec had him sit, and he handed him Madzie.
“This is a good look for you,” Alec said quietly.
Magnus chuckled. “I was thinking the same thing about you when you were rocking her earlier.”
“Maybe once we’re all settled?” Alec asked, hopeful.
“Really?” Magnus beamed at him.
Alec and Magnus hadn’t really discussed children, they already had two incredible sons and were luckier than most.
“Max and Rafael would love a little sister,” Alec said, leaning forward to kiss Magnus sweetly.
“Hey, no making out around my daughter.”
Magnus laughed as Ragnor shifted in his chair.
“I know how you two get,” He laughed. “She’s too young to see that.”
Alec chuckled, and he wanted to tell Ragnor that she really couldn’t see much of anything yet, but he left it, he knew that he was just teasing.
“Get over here and feed your child,” Magnus joked.
Ragnor was up in a shot, changing seat with Magnus and holding Madzie gently. Despite his initial freak out, Ragnor had calmed down and had been front and centre for the entire birth, much to Cat’s delight.
“She’s beautiful like her mother,” Ragnor said, looking down at his daughter.
“She most certainly is,” Magnus and Alec agreed.
By the time Alec and Magnus made it home, it was past midnight, and they weren’t surprised to find the boys both curled up in their bed with Maryse.
Creeping out of the room, they made their way to lounge and laid down together on the couch.
“You do know we could just use the boys’ beds?” Magnus giggled as Alec pulled him close.
“But then I couldn’t do this,” Alec said as he nuzzled against Magnus' neck before kissing his way to his lips. After a few minutes, they were both breathless, and Alec was pressing Magnus into the couch, hovering above him.
“Alexander, I am not having sex with you on the couch, while our kids and your mother are asleep in our bed,” Magnus giggled.
“I thought maybe we could practice since we want another child,” Alec smirked down at him.
Magnus laughed, “It doesn’t exactly work like that for us, darling as you should know, being that you’re a medical doctor.”
“Oh I know, but I really enjoy practising with you, so so much,” Alec said, grinding down against Magnus.
“You play dirty Alexander, I love you.”
“I love you too, Mags.”
1 year later . . .
Magnus paced back and forth nervously, kicking at the sand under his feet.
“Will you stop pacing, you’re digging a trench,” Ragnor said annoyed.
“He’s nervous, leave him be,” Cat laughed.
“What does he have to be nervous about?” Ragnor said. “He’s already married to the man.”
Alec and Magnus had decided on a destination wedding, having chosen a beautiful little hideaway resort called The Waterhouse in Indonesia. But the laws in Indonesia didn’t recognise same-sex marriages, so they’d tied the knot legally, 2 days earlier at the Brooklyn Marriage Bureau with Max and Rafael by their side and Cat and Ragnor as their witnesses. It was a quick no fuss ceremony, no vows, just an exchange of rings and then a few cheesy photos taken in front of Bureau by Ragnor.
They hadn’t planned on a big wedding, just close friends and family and thankfully, everyone had been able to make it. The resort only hosted around 30 people, and they had the entire place to themselves for the next 6 days.
Cat glared at her husband. “Maybe you should go check on Madzie.”
“Good idea, god knows what Raphael and Simon are teaching her.”
“Thank you, Cat,” Magnus said.
“He’s right, you know, there is nothing to be nervous about.”
“I know, I just can’t seem to help it. I know we’re already married, but this ceremony is more real, what if I mess up my vows, what if . . .”
Cat burst into laughter. “There are no what if’s here Magnus, that man loves you more than life itself. You are soulmates, fate brought you together. Alec isn’t going to care if you mess up your vows or anything else.”
Magnus dropped down into the chair beside Cat. “I never thought I’d ever find someone like Alexander. I never thought I’d ever have this.”
“Well I never had a doubt that you would, you deserve this Magnus, you both do.”
“You’re the best friend ever,” Magnus said hugging Cat.
“I know,” She laughed.
Alec couldn’t help but smile as his sister fussed with his hair. “You should have gotten a trim,” She said annoyed that it wouldn’t stay.
“Magnus likes it a little longer,” Alec said.
“More to hold on too, huh?” Jace joked, and Izzy glared at him.
“Why aren’t you dressed?” She snapped.
“We still have 30 minutes,” Jace whined.
Izzy growled at him, and Jace jumped, grabbing clothes and making his way into the small makeshift change area.
“Why aren’t you nervous?” Izzy asked.
“We’re already married, remember,” Alec laughed.
“That was just the legal stuff, Alec, this is the important part.”
Alec thought for a moment and realised his sister was right.
“Actually, forget I said anything,” Izzy said as she noticed her brother overthinking.
Alec rolled his eyes at her. “I hate you.”
“No, you don’t,” She laughed.
As the music started Alec felt his nerves bubble up, Izzy was right, this was the important stuff. He just hoped he could get through it without messing up.
“Ready?” Izzy asked, and Alec nodded.
The resort had set up a small podium, on it stood Ragnor. Ragnor had done an online course, and now he was a registered celebrant.
Alec stood just inside his small tent and watched as Izzy walked forward with Max, meeting Clary and Rafael. They all joined hands and walked up the makeshift aisle between the chairs that had been set out for their guests.
Next Jace stepped forward, taking Cat by the arm and they smiled widely as they walked down towards the others.
Magnus and Alec hadn’t been able to decide who should wait at the podium and who should walk up the aisle. It had been Maryse who had suggested that they walk up the aisle together. They had loved that idea.
Alec stepped forward and laid eyes on Magnus for the first time since dinner last night. Their friends and family had insisted they spend the night apart. Alec had spent it with his family and Magnus with his friends. They hadn’t even been allowed to see each other for breakfast.
Magnus looked incredible. Since it was a beach wedding, they had decided to go casual. Magnus had picked out matching cream linen suits for both them. They both wore the linen pants with a white shirt, but Magnus wore a vest with gold accents, and Alec’s vest had blue. They’d decided to skip wearing jackets and shoes. Max and Rafael were wearing cream shorts, and white polo’s to match.
Magnus had added golden highlights to his hair, and his makeup looked incredible. His eyes were lined with black, and the shadow had a golden shimmer. His lips were glossy but natural, which Alec absolutely loved.
Magnus beamed at Alec. He’d missed him last night, it was so hard getting to sleep without him. Alec looked incredible, even his hair seemed to have been tamed for the occasion. Magnus felt his nerves disappear the moment Alec smiled at him.
Alec held out his hand, and Magnus took it, his fingers curling around Alec’s possessively. They turned towards their family and friends and walked to the podium.
Ragnor had started talking, but Alec didn’t really hear a word he was saying, his eyes were glued to Magnus’, and they stood there beaming at each other.
“Your vows?” Ragnor said again, and Alec snapped out of it and blushed embarrassed.
“Right, sorry,” Alec mumbled.
Alec took Magnus by the hands before he began.
“I thought I was happy that I had everything I could ever want in life, and then I met you. You came into my life by chance, and you stole my heart almost from the first smile.”
Magnus’ smile grew, and he squeezed Alec’s hands tighter as he began to talk.
“I never believed in fate, I never dreamt I could ever find a love like ours, but here you are making all my dreams come true.”
“The love I have for you...” Alec began.
“Is a love that knows no bounds,” Magnus said his eyes filling with tears of joy.
“In times of joy as well as sadness...”
“In sickness and in health...”
“I will love you as my equal.”
“And protect you above all else.”
“I will share with you my truest feelings.”
“And when you speak, I will listen.”
“I will catch you when you fall.”
“And when you soar, I will help you reach your greatest heights.”
“Magnus Bane...” Alec said, blinking away a happy tear.
“Alexander Gideon Lightwood...”
“I am and will always be your loving husband,” they said together.
“I now pronounce you husbands,” Ragnor announced.
Alec beamed at Magnus, pulling him forward, wrapping his arms around him as he dipped him into a passionate kiss, much to the delight of all their friends and family.
“Family, friends, Mr and Mr Bane,” Ragnor shouted.
Magnus tried to turn to his old friend, to explain that he’d made a mistake when Alec stopped him with another kiss.
“Alexander?”
“I know I should have discussed it with you beforehand, but the surname Lightwood lost all meaning to me the moment my father disowned me,” Alec explained, “If you . . .”
Magnus stopped him with a kiss, and when they broke apart, their friends and family were cheering once again.
“I am honoured for you to take my name, Alexander.”
“I really like the sound of Dr Bane,” Alec giggled.
As Alec and Magnus stepped down from the small podium, their sons ran towards them giggling loudly, tossing flower petals at them.
“We’ll have to look at changing this little one's name,” Magnus said, picking up Max.
“I’ve already filled in all the paperwork,” Alec said, picking up Rafael.
The party was in full swing, and Magnus was taking a break, watching Alec dancing with Madzie in his arms and Max and Rafael around his legs.
“I think he’s getting clucky,” Maryse said sitting down beside Magnus.
“Can you keep a secret?” Magnus asked, knowing the answer already.
Maryse chuckled, “I can try.”
“We’re in the process of adopting a little girl,” Magnus whispered, and Maryse squealed with delight.
“Sorry,” She said sheepishly.
“Now I know where Izzy gets it from,” Magnus chuckled.
“We’ve been on the waiting list for almost 10 months, we got the call from the agency a week ago.”
“I’m so happy for you both,” Maryse said her eyes filling with tears.
Magnus pulled his mother in law in for a hug.
“I missed so much of their lives, even before all the drama, I was never there for my children. I always let my job come first, I was the worst sort of mother,” Maryse said. “Honestly, I never expected for Alec to ever forgive me, and I will never take the second chance he’s given me for granted. I wasn’t there for my children, but I promise to always be there for them now, and for their partners and for my grandbabies.”
“Why are you both looking so serious over here?” Alec chuckled as he wanted up to Magnus and his mother.
“We were having a moment, Alexander,” Magnus explained.
“Mother, come dance with me,” Alec said, holding out his hand.
Maryse beamed at her son and let him drag her back to their makeshift dancefloor in the sand.
Magnus followed a moment later, joining his sons who were twirling around with Marissa.
The last song of the night was announced, and Magnus was able to steal his husband away for the last dance.
“Have you enjoyed the night Mr Bane,” Magnus asked.
“I have Mr Bane,” Alec said smirking. “I love you, husband.”
“And I love you.”
“What do you say to us sneaking way?” Alec whispered into his ear. “My mother is taking the boys tonight.”
“Oh, really?” Magnus said smirking. “Whatever do you have in mind?”
“I plan on making love to my husband all night long,” Alec breathed against Magnus’ ear.
“What are we waiting for?” Magnus giggled, and the two turned and snuck off.
Cat and Izzy were sitting at one of the tables, they watched as Alec and Magnus ducked behind one of the tents.
“I’m surprised they stayed this long,” Izzy chuckled.
“Me too,” Cat laughed. “You think after all this time they’d have cooled off a little.”
“I think they’re actually worse,” Izzy laughed.
“They deserve every moment together,” Cat said.
“They totally do.” Izzy agreed. “And they lived happily ever after.” She said, holding up her glass.
“I’ll drink to that,” Cat said, clinking her glass against Izzy’s.
