Savyna's Kitchen

Summary:

Savyna’s new kitchen is ready and she invites Kalas and Xelha over for dinner as promised.

Notes:

For the 100 fandoms prompt 50 - kitchen

This is my first Baten Kaitos fic!

Anwyay I'm going from the line in the ending where Savyna says she wants Kalas and Xelha to be the first two she cooks for, or something like that.

Work Text:

“Your new place looks very nice, Savyna,” Xelha said as she and Kalas scoped out Savyna’s remodeled living space. Tonight would be the first time Savyna would cook in her new space after her kitchen had been upgraded. She had been improving her cooking skills during this time period in Maylee’s place, learning to make all types of food from all the various regions. Savyna had stocked her kitchen hopefully with everything she might need tonight. If not, Maylee’s supply would help in a pinch.

“I can’t believe…” Kalas coughed as Xelha lightly smacked him on the back. “I think it’s awesome that you found a new goal and have made it so far! What are you going to be making us tonight?” Kalas asked.

“I don’t know.” Savyna shrugged. “What would you like to eat?”

Kalas looked over to Xelha. “Xelha, what would you like to eat?”

Xelha pursed her lips. “Hmm, I’m not particularly craving anything…”

Savyna laughed. “Guys, I can’t just make ‘anything’.”

This caused Kalas and Xelha to chuckle as well. “Well, maybe not really sweet things,” Kalas said. Savyna had already considered

“Oh, how about some meat?” Xelha suggested. “Do you still hunt?”

“I do,” Savyna replied with a nod. “It is good exercise. But you don’t have to eat meat just because I do.”

“Oh, no, I think it would be delicious!” Xelha replied. “Kalas, what about you?”

“Make it a bit spicy,” Kalas replied with a grin.

“You better be careful when you say spicy to me,” Savyna teased. She would consider her ability to tolerate spicy food higher than most; she didn’t suddenly forget her years of living on army rations that making them spicy was the only way to make them good enough to eat. “But out of consideration for Xelha, I won’t make it too spicy.”

Xelha laughed. “Thanks, Savyna.”

“While I cook, you two could tell me about your last trip? You visited Gibari again?” Savyna asked as she pulled out a slab of beast shoulder and found some spices. She decided to make meat curry. As expected, Xelha did most of the talking while Kalas “corrected” her anytime he felt she exaggerated how much trouble he got them into. She took peeks at the two as well in between cooking steps. She hadn’t seen them in months and it was lovely how even more comfortable the two were together, though she hadn’t heard about a wedding yet. They were still young, though. Kalas might be reluctant about a formal marriage because he didn’t want to be royalty, although Savyna was sure that Xelha would still be making all the decisions. Well, things would happen when they would happen. Savyna would keep working on her cooking and maybe make something fitting for a wedding banquet when that time came…

“So who are you going to invite next, after us?” Kalas asked, jolting Savyna out of her thoughts.

“Hmm, I don’t know. I better make sure my first guests survive,” Savyna joked.

“Savyna!” Xelha exclaimed.

“Don’t worry.” The curry was done and Savyna took out a piece of meat to try. Yes, good. She scooped the curry into bowls to serve to Kalas and Xelha. “Here you go. Meat curry.”

“Savyna’s special meat curry,” Xelha said, smiling. She took a spoon and sniffed it. “It smells delicious. Kalas?”

Kalas had taken Xelha’s spoon into his mouth. “Mmm, delicious. Great job, Savyna.”

“Kalas!” Xelha took a spoonful of curry from Kalas’ bowl in retaliation. Savyna laughed, enjoying her own bowl at her own pace while the couple on the other side of the table enjoyed themselves and the food to the point where they almost forgot Savyna was there. It was fine; actually, Savyna took this as a sign that her food really was good.

Though, as Savyna watched Kalas sneakily consume another spoonful from Xelha’s bowl, maybe she should start learning how to make a cake sooner rather than later…
