Touya ran his finger down the seating chart. Aoki, Ikeda, Ishikawa, Usagiyama, Kubota, Suzuki, another Suzuki, Takagi, and — there, Todoroki. He turned around to make his way to his seat, facing the front of the first classroom he’d ever set foot in.
Touya wasn’t sure what he expected of UA when he was accepted, but it wasn’t this. UA was all clean, bright hallways, a large open room, sunlight streaming in through the windows. Nothing like the oppressive, claustrophobic air of the Todoroki training room that Touya had come to associate with becoming a hero.
There were teenagers laughing. Laughing. Excited chatter filled up the 1-A homeroom, punctuated by the occasional sound of a shoe scuffing against the ground, or the creaking of someone leaning against a desk.
So caught up in his thoughts he didn’t see the short girl with deer antlers until he collided with her. They both staggered back a step.
“Sorry,” the girl said in a squeaky voice, looking up at him with literal doe eyes.
He’d seen this girl before. During the practical exam an antlered girl with tan skin speckled with black and white dots flew out of nowhere and kicked a two pointer clear across the street and into a building hard enough to crack the exterior. Touya was not looking forward to facing off against her in training.
Touya mumbled a (probably unintelligible) apology. He made to move around her and his eyes met those of the girl behind her. She was completely identical to the first girl except she only had one antler, the other broken off. Twins. Of course. Suzuki and Suzuki. Maybe she was the one to destroy the robot. Now there was twice the chance of him getting kicked into oblivion.
Touya skirted around them with a nod.
“Where’re we sittin’, Kirie?” said the second girl. Her sister replied too quietly for Touya to hear.
He shuffled down the space in between the desks and slumped down into his seat, and the twin girls took their seats at the front of the class in the same row as him. (Great. He was going to be sitting behind two girls with giant antlers.)
Touya closed his eyes as the warm morning sunlight washed over him from the giant window. This was it. This is where he was going to spend the next three years learning how to become a hero. UA thought he was good enough; suck on that Endeavor.
(How his father had raged when he learned that Touya went behind his back to apply for UA. Touya wished he could have seen the exact moment he’d found out.
“That must’ve been embarrassing to find out from another hero. I wonder what they thought when they congratulated you and you didn’t even know. How awkward.”
Endeavor’s stupid flame facial hair flared so high it licked the ceiling.
Touya bared his teeth in the facsimile of a smile. “Careful. Don’t want the house to catch on fire.”
“How,” Endeavor gritted out, “did you get in?”
“I applied,” Touya said with an exaggerated shrug. “Then I scored more points in the practical than anyone else. Funny how a — how did you phrase it? — Ah yes, ‘a pathetic failure who could never make it as a hero’ managed to pull that off. Must’ve been a fluke.”
“If you think I’ll let you-”
“You’re not going to pull me out,” Touya said flatly. “Too many people already know I was accepted. I’m sure it won’t be long before the media finds out either. The mighty Endeavor’s eldest son following in his footsteps? I’m sure they’ll eat it up. If I unexpectedly drop out before classes even start then, well, people will ask questions, won’t they?”
Touya had him there, and Endeavor knew it.
Endeavor clenched his hands into fists.
“Fine,” he spat out. “If you’re really going to go through with this, then I’m resuming your training. I don’t want you disgracing me more than you already have.”
That night, Touya went to bed with more bruises than he’d had in a long time, but it was worth it. He was going to be a hero on his own terms. He was going to prove his father wrong.)
A boy slid into his seat sideways, facing Touya. His rainbow hair swirled distractingly.
“Hey,” he said.
“What,” Touya said. Perhaps he should work on this ‘human interaction’ thing. It wasn’t his fault he spent a good chunk of his childhood isolated from other children.
Not that it mattered. He was here to become a hero, not to make friends.
...That sounded like something that Endeavor would say. Maybe he would make a friend, out of spite. Really show the old man.
“Is it true?” said the rainbow haired boy.
“Is what true?” Maybe not with this guy, though.
He leaned forward eagerly. “Are you really Endeavor’s son?”
Without thinking Touya said, “He impregnated my mom, if that’s what you mean.”
The other kid sat back in shock as Touya realized what he just said. He couldn’t believe he’d just said that. In public . Several of his classmates who had clearly been eavesdropping gawked openly at him. A muscular girl with white hair and bunny ears grinned widely at him. Hmm, maybe she could be his first spite-friend.
(To be honest, it was the mildest way to express what Endeavor truly meant to him. Might as well say it.)

I understand Supernova has a strained relationship with his father, but this is very disrespectful.

I love how half of these aren’t that bad on their own, but the pure contempt really comes through on the delivery.

Yu put her hand on the arm rest of the couch to steady herself, her skin sticking to the cool leather. She drunkenly stumbled, the world swaying around her, then ungracefully plopped herself on the cushion next to Rumi, the lights of the private karaoke room dying her white hair blue. They had the room rented for another two hours and they were already dangerously drunk.
Rumi’s rabbit ear twitched. She held herself with the perfect stillness of some trying to mask just how inebriated they were.
“How much do you wanna bet that Keigo and Touya go home together tonight?” Yu said.
“It’s never happened before, so nothing.”
Yu pouted. Rumi could be such a buzzkill sometimes. If only her fans could see.
Yu leaned forward to grab a plate of yakitori off the low table, only for one of Keigo's feathers to whisk it away before she could reach it. She scowled at him and he cheekily smirked back. That little shit.
Touya staggered up to the karaoke machine. He squinted down at the screen before jabbing it, then turned to address the room.
“This song is dedicated to... my dad. Yeah, it’s dedicated to my dad. Fuck you, dad.”
Touya planted his feet in a wide stance and threw his head back as the opening chords played.
“When I was. A young boy. My father. Took me into the dojo. To set myself on fiiiiiiire.” He was surprisingly on key for someone so completely smashed.
“You know,” Yu said to Rumi. “Sometimes I worry about Touya.”
Rumi hummed. She took another drink of her comically large mint mojito. She nearly missed her mouth. “He’s a good singer, though.”
Yu swirled her incredibly pink, incredibly sweet, incredibly potent drink in her hand. “I know that he and his father have a bad relationship, but he never actually talks about it. He just makes some joke instead.”
“Yeah,” Rumi said, uncharacteristically quiet. “He’s never really told me either.”
Yu knew Rumi hated being serious, even when it concerned her long term friend. Well, she hated being serious about anything that wasn’t kicking villains in the face.
Yu wasn’t good at being serious either, which was why it took her so much to ask Touya what happened. Like usual, he deflected with a joke, but his smile was a bit too sharp. Between that and those horrible, twisted scars on his arms...
“Because you’re. A jackass. With a stupid beard of flaaaame.”
“WOO! Take your shirt off!” Keigo pounded the table with his fist, making all the empty glasses jump. “Take it off!”
Touya grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head, but he forgot to put down the microphone. The cord tangled in his clothes and got stuck.
“Help!” he said, voice muffled, as Keigo lost it laughing.
“You’d think they’d use a cordless microphone,” Yu said.
“Then they’d get all mixed up between the rooms and that’d be a huge hassle,” Rumi said.
“True.”
Touya struggled harder in his shirt prison.
“You guys suck! Aren’t you supposed to be heroes? You’re supposed to help people in need!”
“Nah, you got this,” Rumi said.
Touya cursed.
(The night ended with Touya weeping in Keigo's arms, the younger man rubbing his arms and murmuring comforting words.
Rumi stared straight ahead, her rabbit ears drooping down. For the first time Yu wished she could shrink herself down and be tiny and unnoticeable.)

@everyone It’s that time of the year again! Supernova is throwing his annual gala for Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Charity. This year the organizers are renting out Skyfair adventure park for the day. There will be food, rides, games, and exclusive hero merch. Hawks, Miruko, Ryukyu, and Supernova (of course) are all confirmed to be there, and a few other heroes have been teased.
Don’t forget to buy your tickets!
Literal Dudbear today at 10:50 am
!!!!!! yes!!!!!
Ladubut today at 10:53 am
I wish I could go :(
I cant afford both the ticket and the price of the plane ride :(
dada duda dubba today at 10:54 am
I went last year.
It was so much fun. My little brother tripped and Hawks scooped him up with his feathers before he hit the ground and flew him around the room and back to my mom
he still talks about it sometimes
PlsBuyMyLamps today at 11:00 am
I dont want to be That Guy
but why doesn’t Supernova just donate directly to the charity?
like instead of throwing a big expensive party?
Pink Lady today at 11:01 am
A couple different reasons
One - it raises more money than he could on his own. ( and he already does donate half of his income to charity. He splits it between Safe Haven and the Mental Health Advocacy Institute.)
Two - everyone gets to have fun and raise money at the same time. If you check out the website you’ll see that every year some children who are survivors of domestic abuse are invited to go for free.
Three - Awareness. Supernova always gives a speech on the impact of abuse and there are guest speakers every year as well. If he just donated the money then that wouldn’t get anyone thinking, now would it?
PlsBuyMyLamps today at 11:02 am
i didn’t think of it that way. now i feel like a jerk
Pink Lady today at 11:02 am
It’s fine :) it’s not something apparent at first glance.
Literal Dudbear today at 11:03 am
i legit cried at supernova’s speech last year.
dada duda dubba today at 11:03 am
Me too.
Literal Dudbear today at 11:03 am
it really hit close to home
like, when he talks about how it affects your whole life? and how you internalize things? and you know its not normal, but you dont know what normal is?
dada duda dubba today at 11:04 am
The part where he talked about internalizing it. You start believing youre being treated that way because you deserve it. thats what really got me
Literal Dudbear today at 11:04 am
it felt like he could see into my life
@dada duda dubba yeah, me too. like, i know better now, but it was hard to get from “she calls me stupid because i AM stupid,” to “im not stupid, shes just a horrible person.” you cant win her approval b/c it has nothing to do with you. tbh its a hard pill to swallow
Ladubut today at 11:05 am
It always feels kinda personal to me.
Like he’s talking from personal experience.
dada duda dubba today at 11:06 am
It feels that way to me too. Which has some pretty serious implications, since his dad is the current number two hero of japan.
Ladubut today at 11:08
@Pink Lady you’re the professional here. What do you think?
Pink Lady today at 11:10 am
Well, I don’t like to speculate too much. I don’t know the circumstances. One of the things I learned while still in school is that without first hand information you can be way, way off. Armchair diagnoses can do more harm than good.
There could be abuse, it could be that it’s important to him for another reason, we may never know.
All I can say is that I will support Supernova, and I respect his decisions.
Literal Dudbear today at 11:11 am
good point
dada duda dubba today at 11:11 am
We love you Supernova!
“My next question is for Supernova.”
The heroes on either side of Touya shifted nervously. Touya could tell that the reporter asking the question was from one of the more... dramatic publications from his wide smile and the gleeful hint in his eyes, bordering on manic. The more reputable reporters treated Touya more cautiously, or even avoided him outright, at least where his father is concerned.
They’d definitely not look so eager to ask him anything at an event celebrating, among other things, his father’s ascent to the number one hero spot. (Touya would like to think he’s not terrible at interacting with the media. He’s professional most of the time, and they absolutely eat it up any time he’s around any of his younger fans. His “Big Brother Supernova” reputation was almost as well known as his reputation for hating his dad.)
Touya let a smirk spread across his face. On his right Best Jeanist let out a near inaudible resigned sigh.
“Please, ask away,” Touya practically purred into the microphone.
The reporter’s grin somehow grew even wider.
“How do you feel about your father becoming the number one hero?”
Best Jeanist covered his face with the palm of his hand, and sighed louder this time. On Touya’s other side Edgeshot muttered, “Oh boy.”
The entire crowd tensed. It hadn’t been loud before, but even ambient noises, the sound of people shifting side to side, or jotting down notes on pads of paper, came to a halt. The more respectable reporters stared off into the distance with a sort of resigned trepidation, and Touya could practically feel the gleeful anticipation radiating off Miruko from down the line.
Touya tapped his lips in mock contemplation, staring ‘thoughtfully’ at the ceiling, stretching out the silence. The reporter eagerly leaned forward, his eyes glinting in the harsh light illuminating the room.
“Though he may be the number one hero,” Touya said slowly, “he’ll always be number two in my heart.”
It was, by far, the most direct and harshest insult he’s ever publicly said about his father. Mostly Touya just made vague, passive aggressive comments that could, theoretically, be interpreted as a statement and not an insult at all. It had been a while since someone last called him on it.
Hawks, two places to Touya’s right, wheezed. He slapped both of his hands over his mouth in a vain attempt to muffle his laughter, but all that did was make the strangled sound even worse.
(Touya would have to make an innuendo about being underneath the younger man later. Hawks would appreciate that.)
Miruko didn’t even bother hiding her laughter.
The crowd of reporters and officials broke into loud murmurs, many of them shaking their heads in disapproval. The face of the reporter who asked the question was twisted into an expression of almost religious ecstasy, as if god himself had descended from the sky to grant the man’s every wish. A few of the serious reporters (and one of the younger HPSC members, interestingly enough) had stern faces, but their lips twitched at the corners and their eyes glimmered.
Even though two people stood between Touya and his father, an absolute tsunami of heat washed over him. Best Jeanist winced.
Touya leaned past him so he could look his father in the eye. His father, Endeavor, the titan whose presence loomed over their family, who haunted Touya’s childhood nightmares, glared back, his dumb-ass fiery facial hair flaring.
Touya’s lips stretched into an empty smile. The number one spot wasn’t worth, couldn’t be worth, all of the struggle and pain his father had poured into acquiring it. And at the end, the role was simply given to him when All Might retired. How that must infuriate his father. (At the end, all of the horrible things Endeavor did to his family, all the lives he ruined, were for nothing.)
The position of the number one hero was more of a burden than an honor. Touya hoped he choked on it.

“Touya,” Endeavor said.
“Nope.” Touya turned on his heel and walked away.
Asshole Father,
I heard that writing letters you’re never going to send is therapeutic. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve got a lot to say to you and I don’t trust myself to say it to your face. And who knows? Maybe one day I will actually send it.
You say you want to make amends? That you want to become a father I can be proud of? Of course you’d only do that now. Now that you have everything you ever wanted you want to fix things between us. But it can’t be fixed. The things you took away from us aren’t things we can ever get back.
I lost my childhood because of you. That’s unfixable. Between my friends and my therapist I’m starting to move on, but at the end of the day I’ll never have the happy childhood memories that I deserved. And have no doubt, that’s because of you .
You took my mother away from me. You took her away from all of us. You took my mother’s life, her freedom, and her health away from her. She’s slowly regaining those things, but she’ll never have the missing years back. She’ll never see me, Natsuo, Fuyumi, or Shouto grow up. We already did that. Those years are long gone. All we can do now is give her what we have left.
I’ve been healing. It’s been slow, but I’m not dominated by you or your shadow anymore. But sometimes I remember and I get so filled up with rage, and I hate that. I hate that that is a part of me, and it might be a part of me forever.
Do you know what the worst part is? A part of me still craves for you to acknowledge me, to be proud of me. A part of me loves you and I hate it. And I hate that I hate it. A child should be able to love their parent without hating themselves for it.
That weak part of me got excited when you approached me. For a moment I thought everything could be alright between us. Then the rage came. I felt so angry, I was scared of myself, of what I would do. That’s why I left without saying anything. It’s not “attitude.” My anger is legitimate. And until you understand that, really understand that, there can be no chance for reconciliation between you and your family.
If there is any chance at all.
Touya
