Chapter Text
Chapter Twenty:
Sam had waited for this moment for so long. To be able to see him again was mesmerising, although she could’ve done without being assaulted by one of his Saviours. As they sat in the living room of the house she shared with Jason, his arms wrapped around her, Negan couldn’t hide his glee at the news he was going to be a father.
“I’ve always dreamed that this would happen one day…I just thought maybe it wasn’t meant to be for me.”
Sam smiled, although he was the ‘bad guy’ she couldn’t help but love him.
“It’s still early…we’re not out of the woods yet.”
Negan pulled her closer.
“I swear to you, nothing is going to happen to you or this baby, not if I can do anything about it.”
She smiled again; this was the side of him that she wished everyone else could see.
“I know…”
Her mind wandered to thoughts of the Saviour Micah.
“What’s going to happen to him?”
Negan stayed silent for a few moments before speaking.
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
They sat in silence for a few more moments, the gravity of what was happening thick in the air. It was in these silent moments that Sam started to feel panic rise, was he going to leave her behind again? Was he going to say that being with him wasn’t safe? That the Sanctuary wasn’t safe?
Turning to face him she could feel the tears swelling in her eyes, he looked at her and before she could say anything he spoke.
“You’re thinking something fucking stupid aren’t you? You think I’m going to leave you here…well you’d be hell wrong. The safest place for you is with me, I don’t care what you think, or what your brother think there is no discussion, you’re coming with me.”
Sam smiled, that was exactly what she wanted to hear, he wasn’t going to leave her. She motioned her head towards the door, he followed her gesture and saw two very bulky looking backpacks. He looked back to her and she was smiling.
“I think me and Jase beat you to it…he knows about the baby, and he knew that I wanted to be with you and he wants to be where I am because we’re family, so we decided that we were coming to you…and then you arrived.”
He smiled before placing a lovingly gentle kiss on her lips before resting his forehead on her, both breathing in the other’s scent.
“God I’ve missed you.”
He stood up from the chair.
“I think I’ve been in this shit hole long enough, let’s grab your things and go.”
Negan made his way to the front door where the two bags were, slinging one over his shoulders and the other he carried in his Lucille free hand. With Sam one step behind him they made their way out of the house, Sam stopped in the doorway and looked back for a brief moment before closing the door behind her.

Sam and Negan made their way down the steps, at the bottom stood Jason. Negan handed him the bag he had been carrying in his hands and continued to walk past him, Sam stopped so that she was standing beside Jason.
“So…how’d he take it?”
Sam smiled.
“Like I expected him to, you still want to do this? Give all of this up and come with me?”
Jason smiled, slinging his backpack over his shoulder he draped his arm over Sam’s shoulders and pulled her in close.
“Like I said, you’re my family and wherever you are is where I’m going to be. To hell and back Sam.”
She smiled even wider, wrapping her arm around her brother’s middle. They started to follow Negan’s path towards his pickup. She could feel the eyes of the people she had come to know in Alexandria looking at her, judging her. They had no idea about what was going on, and Sam didn’t care. The only thing she cared about what Jason, and how he felt. She looked up to him and smiled, he was focused forward and undeterred.
“Jason, Sam.”
They both turned as their names were called. Standing behind them was Rick, a confused expression etched onto his face.
“What’s this?”
He gestured towards Jason’s backpack and the fact that they were following Negan, Sam went to speak but Jason got there first.
“Exactly what it looks like Rick, me and Sam are leaving…with Negan.”
Rick took a step forward and so did Jason, protectively. Sam could feel the tension in the air building.
“It’s not your decision to make Rick, Sam’s leaving…so I’m leaving and that’s all there is to it.”
Rick scowled.
“It’s not that simple Jason…you know things.”
Jason scoffed.
“I know things? Are you fucking kidding me? I don’t give jack shit about any of this, about any ‘war’ between you and Negan, all I care about is Sam so where she goes, I go…she’s my family.”
Sam went to grab Jason’s arm, she had seen the look in his eyes many times and she didn’t want anything to escalate. That was when Negan stepped in.
“Prick…they’re coming with us. If you try and start anything it’s not going to end well for you. Instead of starting something you can’t finish how about you just fuck off.”
Negan was almost toe to toe with Rick and he oozed intimidation, black leather jacket and Lucille slung over his shoulder, his armed Saviours standing behind him, weapons cocked and ready to go at a moments notice. Unlike Rick, who behind him stood all of his people, unarmed men, with women and children also watching what was unfolding. He wasn’t going to start anything…and Negan knew this.
“You bastard.”
Negan grinned.
“That’s what I thought.”
With that Negan placed his hand on the small of Sam’s back and ushered her towards the pickup, Jason followed behind. Negan opened the backdoor of the pickup and helped Sam in, Jason slipped in beside her and once Sam was in, Negan closed the door and got into the front passenger seat with the driver pulling away and the rest of the Saviours in their vehicles following suit.
