Coming home to a worried family that bombarded him with questions was not what he really needed and he tried to placate them until he could get some time alone with his sister. They sat on her bed and he folded his arms across his chest as he mulled over his words as thoughtfully and carefully as he could which was proving to be too difficult so he just blurted out what had happened.
“If I tell him I love him I’ll go live with him and you probably won’t see me for a couple years.”
His sister raises a brow and tilts her head. “Why so long?”
“Migration? Kinda? It’s like there’s not much wild game around anymore cause they keep- well everyone keeps hunting it down so they’re going to move to an area with more stuff.”
“I see, that’s smart…” She murmurs and she pouts to herself and turns her head from him.
“What’s with that look?”
“Well, I’m just going to miss you.”
“Miss me?”
“Duh! Obviously you’re going so it’s gonna suck not to see you but maybe you can write to me. They have hawks and stuff to send messages, right? You said their old leader used them so I don’t see why you can’t since you’ll be with their current leader.”

“It’s obvious what your answer is and yeah I’ll miss you a lot but a couple years will go by in a flash and you’ll be back here in easy traveling distance so it’s not like we’ll say goodbye forever. “That’s okay.” She pauses and taps her finger to her chin. “Like if I got married and moved away i’d be sad but I know I could come back at some point to visit. It’s not like we have to stay here forever, we gotta leave the nest at some point and start our own families. It doesn’t mean we can’t see each other again…”
“You’re so wise~” He says in awe and grins a bit. “Whatever man that snatches you up will have to be one hell of a guy!”
“I won’t settle for less than the best.”
Kaminari smiles at his sister and sure he’ll miss the hell out of her but she gives him the support he needs to know that this wouldn’t be a mistake. He knows that if he really wanted to go back home that Bakugo would let him but he’s sure he wouldn’t want to break up with Bakugo either. There was no way they could travel together if Kaminari wanted to see his family, a week to his town then a week back would be far too long an absence for Bakugo to take and he couldn’t simply travel alone. Not only was he just not well versed in long travel but he also didn’t have what it took to fend off nature’s wild beasts and other problems like bandits. Kaminari snorts just thinking about trying to tell Bakugo he’s going to go back home for a visit and the other losing his shit at the idea.
“So I guess, I’m going then.” He says softly and she nods and pets his head.
“Make sure to tell your angry boyfriend to let you write to me. He can figure it out since he’s the boss man.”
Kaminari nods and finally sits up with a heavy heart. “I guess I better tell mom and dad.”
“It can wait till morning.” She says and figures that no matter what their reaction will be it’ll be easier to deal with in the morning.
Kaminari agrees and giving her a quick hug he goes back to his room and lays his head down to rest for the night. His heart is fluttering with excitement and nerves, this was going to be life changing but he doesn’t doubt it’s going to be a positive change. It’s not a path he thought he’d take but it’s one he’s not afraid to embark on. If he’s going to be loved and cherished then there really wasn’t anything to be afraid of, was there?
That next morning was tough as he sat down and told his parents what was essentially his plan for the future. He wasn’t asking for permission on this but only forgiveness that their son would be leaving them for some time and if they’d accept him he’d love to visit him. At first they are upset and want to know all the details of what’s going on and where he’s going. He doesn’t have all the answers but he tells them he’s going to be with Bakugo and why the Hybrid people will be leaving the area.
His mother is in tears and he moves to hug her and is thankful she doesn’t push him away. She sobs into his shoulder for what feels like a good hour before she’s able to pull away.
“A-Are you going today?”
“I’ll have to ask but I wont leave without saying goodbye, I promise.” he gives her a reassuring smile and she gives small nod.
He’s not sure when Bakugo is coming back for him but he knows he’ll have to meet him out front since Bakugo would likely not want to be seen in town. His presence will likely make people still feel uncomfortable despite Kaminari advocating that the Hybrids are changed people with a new more empathetic leader but a lot of people are still angry. He knows he has no right to tell them not to be upset but he hopes in time things will be okay.
He walks out of his home with his sister as they go down the street towards the shops. She wants to go shopping and he wants to spend time with her since it’s such a nice day and all. It’s mostly him sitting and waiting for her to decide on what she wants to try on. She gathers the dresses she wants and goes to the fitting room to try them on, leaving him alone for the store clerk Masaru. He’s a nice man, his demeanor is really gentle and he’s always treated his family well. He’s made a lot of the clothes starting with their design and has a talent with making young girls squeal in delight at his creations. Even though this is a poor town he’s able to make them feel like they’re princesses and it’s a bit of magic he has.
“Denki.” A voice calls to him and he looks to the door to see Mitsuki there in the doorway.
“Oh hello.” Masaru says with a pleasant little smile. She pauses as she looks the man over and she seems lost in thought for a bit until Kaminari is close to her. He has one raised brow and looks to her then at Masaru.
“Oh, you like-”
Mitsuki grabs his face forcefully and drags him outside. “Katsuki is waiting for you.”
“Oh! Let me tell my sister I’ll be going! Shit, uhmm…” He tears himself away and goes to the dressing room. He knocks frantically and she slowly opens it just a crack.
“What?”
“I’m going to go talk to him! I’ll make sure to come back before I go so don’t worry! Have fun shopping!”
“Wait! Already!?” She shouts but she can’t stop him when he’s already out the door. He speeds past Mitsuki who doesn’t seem to bother following him and instead walks back into the shop and gazes around curiously at the dresses then looks at the man behind the counter. She puts on a confident smirk as she walks over and starts talking to him.
Kaminari is rushing through the crowds and gets to the front gates of town. He takes a few deep breaths before walking past the front entrance and out into the open land. He can see’s Bakugo’s horse in the distance and the familiar ash blond hair next to it. Bakugo is sitting there on a large stone and he glances when he catches Kaminari’s scent, he doesn’t move or bother to turn his head to look. The others foot steps grow louder as the other approaches until they come to a stop just a few feet away. Bakugo stands up and finally turns to face Kaminari with a heavy stare and clenched fists.
“Why do you look so nervous?” Kaminari says in slight teasing tone as he eyes the others stiff form.
Bakugo doesn’t answer and he’s doing all he can to control himself from snapping at Kaminari to spit it out, they both know what he’s nervous about. Kaminari looks down to his feet, he turns to look back at his town then he looks to Bakugo with this sad smile. It seems like answer enough and Bakugo turns his head and steps back.
“Two or three years is a long time.” Kaminari says.
“...” Bakugo doesn’t answer, he can’t answer and he can’t look at the other.
“Are you sure you want to be stuck with me that long? You can’t drop me off at my parents when I get annoying.” Kaminari asks with a laugh.
Bakugo’s eyes widen, he snaps his attention onto Kaminari and his mouth hangs open. Kaminari grins back at him and takes a step closer. “I don’t know if you can handle all that Kaminari Denki has to offer~”

Kaminari is tempted to feign ignorance but he chuckles and looks up at the other. “I love you dickhead. Bakugo cringes at the idea and a firm scowl is set on his lips. “No thanks.”
“Oh come on! I told them all about you, mostly the good things. They do know you’re loud, rude and a rough guy to be around so they won’t be surprised when you start yelling.”
“Oi-” Bakugo growls dangerously and pulls the other up against him and begins to kiss down his neck. Kaminari cranes his neck to the side to let the other kiss more and lets out a breathy sigh of content.
“I’m kidding- well, they know you yell a lot but I told them how you protected and cared for me. They know you’re a good guy under all that tough guy exterior.”
Bakugo snorts and gives Kaminari a little bite which makes the other yelp and swat at his arm.
The hybrid pulls away and with a sharp exhale through his nose he looks off to the side. “Fine, I’ll meet them.” He doesn’t want to but if Kaminari wants him too then he’ll get this over with. Kaminari grins and tugs his arm as he pulls him to the town and walks through the town towards his home, a lot of people who see him gaps and flinch back once they see him. He doesn’t pay them much mind and soon he’s ushered inside Kaminari’s home and the other hurriedly sits him down at his table then goes into the house to grab his parents. Bakugo sits there, he’s stiff as he waits for the other to come back with his parents. He can hear talking in the back but he tries not to eavesdrop.
Soon Kaminari comes in with his parents behind him and they are looking equally nervous. Kaminari sits next to Bakugo and his parents sit across from them. It’s quiet for a bit until Kaminari perks up and grins. “This is Bakugo Katsuki! I told you about him.” He nods to his parents then looks to Bakugo. “Meet my parents!” He gestures to his parents.
“N-Nice to meet you.” His father says gently with a queasy little smile.
Bakugo grunts in response and Kaminari gives him a sharp elbow to his side. “Nice to meet you.”
“So you’re--” his mother starts and she begins tearing up and Bakugo cringes back at the display of emotion.
“I will be taking care of your son from now on. Leave him to me.” He says with a hard stare at the two and they just stare back at him.
Kaminari sighs and takes Bakugo’s hand under the table. “Mom, Dad, I told you earlier but the good news is I won’t be going today. It’ll be around the end of spring that they have to move so don’t say goodbye just yet! I wanted you to meet him and even though he’s a bit shy he’s actually really nice and a lot of fun!”
“Fun?” Bakugo asks with a quirked brow and he squeezes his hand.
“Yeah! And a super good cuddler! He runs extremely warm so it’s like sleeping near a furnace!”
Bakugo tugs his arm and glares at him. “Don’t say weird things to your parents!”
Kaminari laughs and Bakugo growls but just looks at him with a frown to hide his affectionate stare. Kaminari’s parents watch them and they look to each other then back to the lovers before them. His mother wipes away her tears and swallows hard. “Please take care of him, please write to me any chance you get and come visit when you can.”
“Mom…” Kaminari says softly and smiles to her and looks to Bakugo who is looking at her too.
“I will make sure to keep him safe and we have hawks that can transport letters. I wouldn’t mind letting Denki have one to use at his leisure.”
“Good.” Kaminari’s father says and the three Kaminari’s start a small conversation together as Bakugo just sits and waits for a chance to get away. Sadly, that chance doesn’t come and soon Kaminari’s mother is getting up to start dinner and wants him to stay.
“His mom is here too! Last I saw her she was at the shop!”
“She can have dinner with us too!” His mother says and Bakugo opens his mouth but nothing comes out. He’s not sure what to do anymore, he’s never experienced this or thought he would but yet here he is. It’s surreal but he lets himself get strung along for the ride, soon his mom was there and Kaminari’s sister who he greets as respectfully as possible. His mother had also brought along some random guy she met at the shop. The poor man looked confused but if he wasn’t a burden he’d love to join them all for dinner and could entertain next time to make up for it.
Everything seemed to be huge commotion as people met and talked and Bakugo felt himself needing to draw away from it all. Kaminari whose hand he hasn’t let go of gave him a small reassuring squeeze before pulling him back towards his room where it was quieter.
“It’s pretty crazy out there, my mom turns into a storm when she’s in the kitchen but she seems to like your mom a lot.” They can still hear their excited chatting as Mitsuki gives backhanded compliments about her own son and tries to reassure them he’s a good man.
“This is so fucking weird.” Bakugo comments with a sign as he feels the bed and notices how incredibly soft it is. Another weird thing he didn’t quite understand.

Kaminari is always looking around in wonder at the new sights that each day brings. It seems so crazy how big the world is but it’s an exciting new adventure. Once they find a wide clearing but with another forest in the distance they settle down and start to set up their camps once more. Bakugo holds him tight and indulges in Kaminari’s scent mixed with his, for now and forever Kaminari’s scent will always have his scent with it and everyone will know that they are mates. No matter what the world will throw at them they’ll be together and that’s all Bakugo could ever hope for and dream of.
He never would have guessed his life would turn out like this, he didn’t have much aspirations of being leader but here he was and with a human mate to boot. He’s thankful he met Kaminari and still wants to make up for all the wrong he’s done, he’ll start with just loving him with all his heart until his dying breath and then some.
