Chapter Text
“Ugh, we wrote so many appeals that year,” Rikki groaned.
“Yeah, and for nothing,” Cleo grumbled.
“Remember how Zane would fight with his dad for days? Nothing worked.”
“Lewis even contacted Dr. Denman, but she blew him off too.”
Emma continued her story, “And so after all those appeals and emails, we had no choice but to use our powers.”
“We have no choice guys!” Melissa argued , “we have to create storms near Mako to keep the scientists and construction crews away.”
“For how long, Melissa?” Emma spoke, “We can’t maintain a storm for that long.”
“No,” Lewis agreed as he sat on Emma’s bed next to Cleo, “but hopefully you won’t have to. It’s pretty easy to see if a ship is approaching Mako, or even moored here and preparing for the journey to Mako. We are the only harbour nearby, so they have to stop here for fuel.”
“So,” Cleo said, “we just keep an eye on those ships and stop them on their way?”
“Guys, it isn’t holiday, we have classes and assignments,” Emma growled.
“Emma,” Rikki shot back, “this is a bit more important than school.”
“Maybe for you, Rikki, but my mom would kill me if I start failing. I’ve never failed at anything in my life.”
Zane spoke up, “we can take shifts watching the harbour.”
“Guys,” said Cleo, “what if there was another way? What if Lewis recreated that wish potion he had a few months ago? We could use it to, I don’t know, wish Mako was invisible or something.”
Rikki rolled her eyes, Melissa groaned and laid back on the bed, and Emma frowned.
“Not with the magic again Cleo,” Rikki whined.
“Hello? We are talking about using our magical powers to scare away boats?” Cleo yelled.
“Guys,” Lewis growled, “stop, okay? Even if Cleo was right, I lost the book, so there’s no sense in arguing about it.”
“It’s settled then,” Emma said after a pause of silence, “we will take shifts to watch out for the first set of scientists to try to study Mako. And when we find someone, we will create a storm to keep them away.”
While Lewis was on his shift to watch the harbour, the first scientist to arrive was Dr. Denman.
