One Thousand Nests

Summary:

This was Wei Wuxian’s last heat in the Cloud Recesses. After this, he was to return to Yunmeng with Jiang Cheng but something wasn’t right.

Notes:

Here's something for you! I was supposed to write the 5th chapter for Stolen Robes but screw that!

Comments are always appreciated.

Work Text:

Something wasn’t right! Wei Wuxian was frustrated but that was only just an understatement. He had spent over three hours trying to arrange his nest but nothing seemed to work. This had never happened before! How was this time any different? Wei Wuxian punched his pillow angrily.

How many times had he tried to rebuild and rearrange his nest so far? Ten times? Hundred times? Thousand times? It didn’t matter. All he wanted was to have a decent looking nest. Everyone could see how that pillow in the right corner didn’t fit there! And that blanket? No, it didn’t fit there either. All of his collected robes were in the wrong places. Everything was a mess, and this distraught him.

‘How could this have happened to me?’ Wei Wuxian wanted to cry and hide inside of his nest but it wasn’t good even for comforting him. His heat had already arrived, and if someone were to smell him, they would have mistaken him for an abused omega in a terrible distress, not in heat. How laughable! Although he was in a distress, he didn’t want to admit it. His pride as the Jiang sect’s head disciple didn’t let him.

‘Don’t cry! Don’t cry! Try to calm yourself, Wei Ying! Crying doesn’t help anyone. You’re not an incompetent omega in distress! You don’t need an alpha to save yourself! You’re fully capable! There’s always a solution for everything! You just need to find it. Hmm…. If rearranging doesn’t work, something must be missing,’ Wei Wuxian tried to reason. ‘Think! What could be missing?’

Truthfully, nothing was missing. He had everything that he needed for nest building. Cloths, robes, pillows, blankets, duvets and bed sheets. It wasn’t like he was lacking anything. Or was he?

Wei Wuxian looked outside. “It isn’t in this room,” he realized and stood up. He had to find it! Omega left his room and walked through the corridors, leaving the guest disciples’ area.

On his way, other disciples’ confused looks were unnoticed by him. Especially Lan sect’s. Embarrassment all over their faces, flushed cheeks, and red ears, even their scents disappeared. Everyone seemed to change their walking direction as soon as they smelled him. This didn’t bother him. He wasn’t in the mood to talk with them anyway. He just wanted to find what he was looking for.

If someone with a terrible sense of smell was to walk past Wei Wuxian, they would have seen a lost teenager walking around in their night robes in a broad daylight. It wasn’t even 7 in the evening but this teenager was already in his night robes. They would also have wondered why they didn’t saw anyone nearby.

After looking around for about half an hour, Wei Wuxian found himself in front of the jingshi. The door opened before he had the time to touch it.

“Wei Ying, what are you doing?” the alpha asked.

Indeed, what was he doing here? Wasn’t he supposed to find his missing item?

“I…” omega questioned himself but found no answer to the question.

“Go back to your nest,” Lan Wangji said indifferently but Wei Wuxian could swear he found a worry in the alpha’s words.

“No!” the younger one protested and resolutely walked inside. Lan Wangji hesitantly closed the door to not let omega’s heat scent leak outside.

Now that he was inside, Wei Wuxian felt that he was in the right place. Gone were the stress and frustration about the unfinished nest. Now they were replaced by contentment and satisfaction. This place had the right scent. Even if he had his scented robes, they couldn’t replace the source of the scent, Lan Wangji.

Omega grabbed alpha from his robes and skillfully threw him on the bed. “What are you doing?” the older teen asked in confusion while lying on the bed.

“You wanted me to go to my nest, right?” Wei Wuxian replied with a smirk and continued, “I’m building my nest right now.”

He shamelessly took all of Lan Wangji’ clothes from the storage and threw them towards the bed. Because the alpha was still in shock about what was happening, he didn’t have time to stop the omega. Wei Wuxian happily hummed and contently gathered all the pillows and duvets into a den-like shape around the alpha. His hands were fast, and in no time, the nest was ready.

Perfect!

Why was it so hard earlier? This time, it had been so easy to make a nest. After building the nest, omega accompanied the alpha. It had enough space for two people, for an alpha and an omega. ‘I’ve never shared my nests with anyone before. How odd is our nature. Must have been an instinct!’

“Wei Ying, this isn’t right! You can’t share your heat with me. We aren’t mated yet. This isn’t proper,” Lan Wangji tried to get off the nest but he was stopped by Wei Wuxian. Omega had decided to sit on top him preventing him from leaving.

“Don’t leave me!” omega pleaded, looking into alpha’s eyes, and his was voice layered with anxiety. What if the alpha really left? What would his inner omega think about it? He had built his nest right in front of alpha’s very eyes. It had taken him some courage to do that but in the end, he had gotten the perfect nest.

Why wasn’t he happy? Was something amiss? Was his gray duvet in a wrong spot? Did he want the pillows on top? Was the combination of the mixed colors displeasing in his eyes? Or was this nest too rough? Did he want softer blankets? Wasn’t this nest satisfactory? Was it that bad? Did he hate it? He did, right? There was no other reason for him to want to leave after seeing the nest.

It hurt.

“I’m not leaving,” Lan Wangji easily gave in after sensing the omega’s distress. “I’m staying here with you,” he tried to comfort the other.

Wei Wuxian stared at him, silently doubting. Because omega didn’t seem to believe him, alpha continued, “Your nest is perfect! No one could have built a better nest than you, and that’s why I’m staying here.”

That got omega convinced.

Now that his nest was built and he felt safe, his heat had fully started to settle in. Wei Wuxian laid his head against alpha’s chest and took the sandalwood scent in. He could feel other’s steady breathing, chest slowly rising up and down. He could hear both of their heartbeats. Oddly enough, they were in a perfect synchrony.

He was starting to feel a bit feverish. A slight daze and that familiar, yet uncomfortable, warmth invaded his body. It was too hot. Omega not only could feel his sweat increasing in volume but his slick seeping through his robes. Since it was his heat, he usually didn’t bother to wear his underwear, or anything at all for that matter. The other must have noticed it. Despite feeling hot and wanting strip, he was decent enough to keep his clothes on.

“Lan Zhan, you don’t mind, right?” Wei Wuxian lifted his head to look at the alpha and quietly asked, although he wasn’t even sure what he was asking the other.

“I…” Lan Wangji seemed to wonder what to answer to the imprecise question. But after a long moment, came a reassured reply, “I don’t mind.”

“Great!” the younger teen answered with a smile. ‘It looks like he isn’t affected by my heat scent. How amazing! I bet he can encounter any random omega with a strong a heat scent without blinking an eye. He would never take without the other’s consent. I knew I could trust him,’ he thought happily until he felt something poking at his lower region.

“...”

“...”

Crap!

Both of their cheeks flushed red. Wei Wuxian was the first one to break their eye contact and pressed his head firmly against Lan Wangji’s chest. Alphas’ packages weren’t small and Lan Wangji’s wasn’t an exception. He had seen many in his younger days in Yunmeng. But Lan Wangji? Other’s paled in front of him. It was anything but small! He could satisfy any omega or even a beta! While on this topic, his thoughts shifted to his own situation.

...

‘It isn’t soft anymore! When did this happen?’ omega internally panicked. He wanted to get up but he couldn't bear to leave his nest nor part from the alpha.

“Sorry,” the older teen apologized. Both of them knew the current situation very well. They wordlessly agreed to wait until their delicate situations decided to calm down by themselves, if ever.

Thus began their silent date. And for once, Wei Wuxian didn’t make any unnecessary sounds or noises. This was too embarrassing to joke around. Instead, his inner omega, after a while, started to run wild in the presence of an alpha.

'It’s too hot.’

‘These clothes are too restricting.’

'I want to strip.’

‘I want to touch him.’

‘I want him to touch me.’

‘I want him to touch me more, not just my hands but also my other areas.’

‘I want to feel him.’

‘I want him to take me, mark as his own and show others I’m taken.’

'And I want to show others he’s taken.’

'I want to be impregnated by him and carry his pups. That way, no one would dare to approach him.’

Omega had been wondering how it would feel like spending his heat with an alpha. He was starting to get desperate for a touch. He sat up and looked at the other, “Alpha, let me help you!”

“…!” the older teen grabbed omega’s arm before he had time to advance. With his other hand, he poked omega’s certain acupuncture points which knocked the younger one out.

---

Next time when Wei Wuxian woke up, it was already evening. He wasn’t sweating anymore instead he felt refreshed and his robes had been changed. Lan Zhan! Omega looked at the alpha who still had his robes properly on.

He had been reading a book but after noticing omega was awake, he offered a bowl of soup. “Eat.”

“You know omega’s don’t need food during their heats, right?” the younger teen responded but took the bowl anyway. After he had eaten, he gave the bowl back.

Conforming that nothing was amiss, and he didn’t have any additional weird feelings in the lower half, he was certain. ‘I haven't been deflowered. I wanted to see Lan Zhan’s inner alpha to take control. Tsk. What a letdown. Are we seriously going to wait until the marriage?’

After that, Lan Wangji didn’t let Wei Wuxian get too close to him. Despite omega’s many tries to top or lure the other, alpha always found a countermeasure. If omega ever tried something, he found himself waking up two hours after. Alpha didn’t let the omega have another chance to do anything improper. Them spending the heat together in the jingshi was scandalous enough.

---

Two days later, Wei Wuxian’s heat had passed, and they both laid in the nest next to each other. His heat had been surprisingly uneventful with the alpha.

Lan Wangji had fed him and even helped to wash. When he wasn’t helping the omega, he was either reading or playing guqin for him.

Lan Xichen had found out when he had come to look for his brother. Wei Wuxian had reluctantly let go of Lan Wangji as he had to meet his brother. During Lan Xichen's visit, younger alpha’s scent had grown stronger which made the omega giggle. 'Don’t worry, Lan Zhan, my eyes only see you! His petrichor scent doesn’t compare to your sandalwood.’

In the end, Lan Xichen had only visited them four times to bring food and incense burners which Wei Wuxian had recommended. Lan Wangji wasn't happy about the visits because he didn’t want to let anyone in. Wei Wuxian even heard him growling at his brother which he thought alpha was incapable of doing.

No one else came to visit them so they were left alone. Both of them were happy to spend a peaceful heat. Omega was curled up in his nest and alpha tended his every matter and concern, well not every but many enough.

“Lan Zhan,’ Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji and continued, “I made so many nests before I came here. Nothing seemed to work. I was really desperate. But… Even when I made one thousand nests, none of them weren't good. I only made perfect one when I had you with me.”
